Alfredo Farias "Big Al", 49, passed away October 28, 2001 in California. He was born in Waukegan on April 28, 1952.
Survivors include his father, Frank Farias, Sr.; sisters, Arlinda Hernandez, Sandra Luna, Elizabeth, Amelia and Victoria; and brothers Frank, Jr. and Pablo. preceded in death by Mary Farias.
Memorial Mass will be at St. Paul The Apostle, 6401 Gages Lake Road, Gurnee, IL on Monday, November 19, 2001 at 6:00 PM. Interment will be private.
Romel "Jinks" Finley
Romel "Jinks" Finley, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the Provena St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, Illinois.
He was born September 26, 1951, the son of Fred Finley and the late Pearline Finley, in Great Lakes, Illinois.
He was a graduate of Waukegan High School and had worked for Baxter Lab, Abbott Lab and Minor's Unique Printing Company. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing darts.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Roxanne Stebbins; a daughter, Tanika Finley; two sons, Romel Finley, II and Jason Finley; grandchildren, Marcus Joshua, Jovanna Mercedes, Dajaniece Romel III Jamier; two sisters, Tiola Steele and Barbara Jean Dixon; a brother, Fred Finley, Jr; a special step sister, Annette Moore; a special step brother, MacArthur White; and a special aunt, Bessie Yarbough; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 19, 2001 at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 South Genesee Street, Waukegan, Illinois with the Rev. Walstone E. Francis, Pastor, officiating. Interment is pending.

Joseph James Grimsic, Jr. "Butch"
Joseph James Grimsic, Jr. "Butch", 62, of Beach Park died on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 the result of an auto accident.
He was born October 15, 1939 in Waukegan and had lived in this area all of his life. He was a retired truck driver with Lodesky Trucking. He was also a veteran of the Marine Corps and for 23 years he was a Charter Boat Captain and operator of the "J-B" out of Waukegan Harbor.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Joanne; three children, Gail Jean Grimsic, Ken James Grimsic and Perry Ann McBee all of Beach Park; eight grandchildren, Raechel, Douglas, Mitchell, Amy, Lynne, Nina, Kirsten, Alysa and Breanna; his mother, Genevieve Zwicke of Zion; four nieces, Linda, Kathy, Cindy and Karen; and his faithful companion, "Bailey". He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph James Grimsic, Sr.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2001 at 7 PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM until time of Services at the funeral home.
Jean Halvorsen
Jean (nee Hill) Halvorsen (lovingly called "Nanny"), 73, of Beach Park died on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at Condell Hospital, Libertyville.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan, the Waukegan Yacht Club and the Waukegan Emblem Club. She retired as Executive Director of the Great Lakes Auxiliary of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Great Lakes, following over 40 years of service. She was the First Place Winner of the Century of Progress World's Fair Doll Buggy contest in Chicago in 1933.
Survivors include her three loving daughters Gay (Lee) Penttinen of Waukegan, Joy Halvorsen of Beach Park and Merrily (Steven) Bausch of Lake Villa as well as her treasured grandchildren, Steven and April Bausch. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Bernard "Bernie"; her parents Allen Ray and Daisy (nee Hatton) Hill and a sister, Shirley (nee Hill) Dunoven. She is also survived by a sister, Beverly (Lyle) Shelley of Gurnee; a brother Thomas (Katie) Hill of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Rev. David Eikenberry of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Waukegan.
Celia E. Kaplan
Celia E. Kaplan, 84, of Gurnee passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Provena St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. She was born July 28, 1917 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Celia was a member of Congregation Am Echod, North Chicago Women's Club, Sharvin Post American Legion Auxiliary and a lifetime member of Hadassah. She retired as a teacher from North Chicago grade schools after 30 years of teaching.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Claudia) Kaplan of Broomfield, CO; daughter, Eve (Robert) Gloede of Gurnee; sister, Mary Treiman of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Ben (Myne) Hootkin of Milwaukee, WI and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Morris Kaplan in 1997 and her brother Dick Hootkin.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, November 17, 2001 at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan, with Rabbi William Fertig officiating. Interment will be at Am Echod cemetery on Grand Ave. following services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions Club or charity of your choice.
M. Louise Larson
M. Louise Larson, 90, of Waukegan, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion.
She was born on October 18, 1911 in Portland, Oregon. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Minnehaha Falls, Minnesota and active in the Church Organization, she also sang in Church choirs, trios and played the piano in church.
She is survived by her daughter, Vivian (Kenneth) May of Waukegan,; granddaughter, Julie (Stephen) O'Connor of St. Louis Park, MN; and three great-grandchildren, Anya, Madeleine and Grace O'Connor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey W. L. Larson in 1994; and a brother, Kermit Berger.
Funeral services will be at 10:30am, Monday, November 19, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minnehaha Falls, MN. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis, MN.

Lucine "Luke" Mutaw
Lucine "Luke" Mutaw, 78, of Waukegan, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at Provena St. Therese medical Center in Waukegan.
He was born June 15, 1923 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong area resident.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Paratroopers 11th Airborne Division and earned the Bronze Star and purple Heart. Luke was an Ambassador for the Lake County Chamber and an avid golfer at Bonnie Brook and Shilow golf courses. He retired Johns Mansville in 1987 after 40 years of service and was a member of their Quarter Century Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eleanor (nee Poglayen); children, Michael (Marsha) Mutaw of Beach Park, Robert (Ann) Mutaw of Louisville, CO, Kathleen (Marc) Lorber of Woodbridge, CT and Maryanne (Kirk) Jensen of Iowa Park, TX; he is also survived by his grandchildren, David and Beth Lorber, Erik and Aliza Jensen; three step-grandchildren, Lance Henderson, Jennifer (Jim) Bray and Walter Barner; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara (nee LaViolette) Mutaw.
Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Saturday, November 17, 2001 at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan with Fr. Ryan officiating. Entombment will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.

Ronald G. Petrick
Ronald G. Petrick, 45 years old of Antioch, passed away Monday November 12, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL. He was born February 28, 1956 in Chicago, the son of George C. and Shirley (Thomas) Petrick. He lived in Cicero before moving to Antioch three years ago. Ronald worked in maintenance for Piggly Wiggly in Antioch and was a member of the United Food Workers Union #1540. He enjoyed surfing the web, old western movies, watching sport events, especially the Bears.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Petrick (Jerry Chute) of Hanford, CA; his maternal grandmother, Ella Soja of Antioch; his fiancee, Therese Gatz of Antioch; two aunts, Betty Lorenz of Antioch and Joanie Parker of Arlington Heights, IL and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George.
Memorial funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, November 17, 2001 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) Antioch. Interment is private. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 PM Saturday until time of services. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
Nathaniel Harvey Richards
Nathaniel Harvey Richards, formerly of North Chicago, Illinois passed away suddenly Sunday morning November 11 at his home in Chicago at the age of 58.
Nathaniel was born July 9, 1943, in Waukegan and moved to Chicago in his youth.
Nathaniel graduated from Englewood High School in Chicago, earned a BS in General Education from Northwestern University (1977) and an MS in Human Relations Services from Governors State University (1980). Nathaniel's professional career spanned many years. He was most recently a special education teacher at Englewood Technical Preparatory Academy. He served fifteen years as a counselor, teacher, and assistant principal over the GED curriculum at the State of Illinois Department of Corrections. From 1994 to 1999, Nathaniel served as college program coordinator for the National Lewis University at the Joliet Correctional Center. Prior to that, he taught GED classes in the adult learning skills program at Olive-Harvey City College in Chicago.
Nathaniel is survived by his wife Elyse (nee Cook) of Chicago; his mother Mrs. Emily Barnes of North Chicago; his father Nathaniel Johnson of North Chicago; siblings: Catherine (Riley) McIntosh of Chicago, Louis (Lorenda) Richards of Fontana California, Florence Richards of Waukegan, Elaine (Rodney) Hill of Detroit Michigan, Marilyn (Steve) Wikner of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Offie Barnes Jr., of Georgia, Pamela (Robert) Ritter of North Chicago, Hubert Johnson of California, Cheryl (Carlton) Turner of North Chicago and Darlene (Donald) Smith of North Chicago, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park, 11413 Vincennes, Chicago, Illinois at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2001.
Matt Sasgen
Matt Sasgen, 80, of Round Lake Beach passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Condell Medical Center. He was born on March 27, 1921 in River Forest, IL.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette of Kalispell, MO; a son Tom (Peggy); a daughter Theresa (Thomas) Mikrut; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his son William.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Interment is private. Arrangements entrusted to MARSH FUNERAL HOME.
Jack Sikich
Jack Sikich, 66 of Lancaster CA, formerly of Waukegan, IL passed away November 10, 2001 in Valencia, CA. He was born May 15, 1935 in North Chicago, IL. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Croatians, and Republican Party. He worked as a supervisor for Warwick Electronics. He was President/Owner for 33 years at Dependon Inc./Gallop Couriers, Inc. He is a loving husband and very devoted father to five children and grandfather, "Papa" of fourteen grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sikich, of Lancaster, CA; one sister, Madolyn Jackson of Waukegan, IL; one sister-in-law, Florentine Sikich of Waukegan, IL; five children, Michael (Dana) Sikich, Kristie (David) Zupancic, Tricia Sikich, Jack (Stacey) Sikich and John (Julie) Sikich; fourteen grandchildren, Jacalyn, Justin, Ricky, Jacob, Cameron, Zachary, Corey, Tyler, Makenna, Liam, Owen, Karlee, Elijah and Grant; numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and the many lives he has touched. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine, father, Jacob and brothers John, Joseph and Paul.
There will be a wake, for the family and friends, Friday, November 16, 2001 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the JOSHUA MEMORIAL PARK AND MORTUARY, 808 E. Lancaster Bl, Lancaster, CA. Mass will begin at 9:00 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2001 at Sacred Heart Church in Lancaster. Graveside services will be held at The San Fernando Mission.
