Reverend William Ivy Jenkins
The Reverend William Ivy Jenkins was born on September 16, 1910 near Lake Village, Arkansas, the son of Aaron and Lyddia Warren Jenkins. He confessed Christ as Savior and Lord at a young age, and attended Utica Christian Institute. After graduation from Southern Christian Institute, Utica, Mississippi, he united in marriage with Louise Elnora Lampkins Jenkins in 1934. They made their home in North Chicago, Illinois with their nine children Lillian Ivy, Gwendolyn Louise, Izzetta, Deborah Julia, William Ivy Jr., Rosie Aletha, Mary Frances, James Robert and Ruth Elnora.
Reverend Jenkins served as Pastor of Gideon Baptist Church, Waukegan, Illinois from 1938-1939. He then founded the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Waukegan, Illinois in 1940, and served as Pastor until 1952, when he became Pastor of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Michigan City, Indiana. In 1953, he returned to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Pastor until his retirement in 2001.
Reverend Jenkins graduated from Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Illinois receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Psychology in 1946. He also attended Chicago Teachers College, National College of Education, University of Illinois, Chicago, McCormick Theological Seminary, and Garrett Biblical Institute. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Education from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois in 1964. He also received a Certificate in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Chicago, in 1966.
Reverend Jenkins taught at a number of schools in the Chicago area, and served and participated in a host of professional, community and social organizations including: the Greater New Era Baptist District Association of the National Baptist Convention U.S.A. Inc.; the North Shore Baptist Ministers Alliance; the National Education Association; the Alumni Associations of Lake Forest College and Roosevelt University; the NAACP; Past Master of the Rufus Mitchell Lodge No. 107 F and AM, PHA. (1948-1950); and Past Patron of Emblem Chapter No. 140, OES, PHA (1951).
Reverend Jenkins departed this life on Saturday, November 9, 2002. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Aaron and Lyddia Jenkins; his sisters Alberta and Rosie; his brothers Lacy, James and Levi; his wife Louise Elnora Lampkins Jenkins (1983); his second wife Lauretta B. Christmas Jenkins (1986-1997); and three children, Izzetta, Rosie, and Deborah Julia Jenkins Powell.
He leaves to mourn six children, The Reverend Lillian Ivy Gibbs of Chicago, Gwendolyn L. Lambert of North Chicago, William Ivy Jenkins, Jr. (Cassandra) of Glendale, Wisconsin, Mary Frances Jenkins Hood of North Chicago, James R. Jenkins (Anita) of Midland, Michigan, Ruth Elnora Walker (Curtis) of Atlantic Beach, Florida; one sister Magnolia Lampkins (Lewis) of Waukegan; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He also leaves the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Home Going Celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee Street, Waukegan, IL. Pastor Walstone Francis, Officiating. Interment will be at Warren cemetery, Grand Avenue and cemetery Road, Gurnee, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, and Saturday, November 16, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Carol A. Kee
Carol A. Kee, 61, of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Waukegan, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2002 in Florida. She was born August 19, 1941 in Chicago. She was a member of Waukegan Moose Lodge #706, Waukegan Democratic Party, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Carol retired from customer service at Sears after 20 years of service.
Survivors include her 3 children, Robert LeRoy Walton, Jr. of Beach Park, FL, Deborah Walton-Coleman of Waukegan, and Ronald Walton of Zephyrhills, FL; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 4 brothers, George, Gerald, Glenn and Gregory Grosch. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Burial will be in Mt. Emblem cemetery in Elmhurst, IL. Mavis L. LaRocke
Mavis L. LaRocke, 77 years old, of Grayslake, formerly of Round Lake, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at her home. She was born August 16, 1925 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Edward and Greta (Arnold) Riley. In 1942, she graduated and was class vocalist at John Marshall High School. Mavis was a member of the Chicago Peoples Opera Company, sang in the choir and special sextet group at Wilbur Wright Jr. College under the direction of Erheart Burstrasser, and sang with the adult choir of St. Thomas of Quianias Church under the direction of Josephine Rice. Her singing continued as role of Madame Butterfly, Margarette and Valentino from opera Foust.
She owned and operated Mom's Drive-In in Paddock Lake from 1970 until 1975 and alter retired after 10 years of service from the Illinois Student Assistant Commission on October 1, 1991. Mavis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lake Villa.
On November 30, 1944 she married
Charles J. LaRocke in Chicago and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1987.
Survivors include one son, Charles LaRocke, Jr. of Round Lake Beach, IL; one daughter, Nora (William) Winkowski of Grayslake, IL; eight grandchildren: Dough, Michelle, Brent, Sharon, Billy, Tony, Shannon, and Kendra; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Crummey in 1984; one grandson, Chad, in 1978; and her sweetheart, Henry Jasper, Sr., in 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002 at STRANG FUNERAL HOME of ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rt. 83), Antioch, IL. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday.

She was born May 23, 1908 in Hand County, South Dakota and died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Libertyville Manor. Ethel has been a resident of Mundelein for over 70 years and was a member of the Community Protestant Church in Mundelein.
She is survived by her son Duane Mitchell of Mundelein, daughter Doris (Fred) Wetzel of Sun City, FL, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was born May 22, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI and died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at home. Vincent was a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee. He was employed for 25 years with Lake County and retired as Risk Manager.

Lila Marie Ruffolo
A memorial service will be held Sunday Dec. 1, 2002 from 2pm-4pm at Serenity House, 1103 West Park Ave in Libertyville, Illinois for Lila Marie Ruffolo of Little Rock, Arkansas who died instantly in a car wreck on Friday Nov. 1, 2002 with her friend and true love Dan Baker.
She was born June 12, 1978 in Highland Park, Illinois and grew up in Highland Park and Gurnee, Illinois. She was a 1996 graduate of Warren Township High School and a 1998 graduate at Meredith Manor Equestrian Center in Waverly, West Virginia. She had attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock and was a horse trainer and riding instructor. Lila and Danny were building a horse ranch in Roland, Arkansas. She was a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and The American Quarter Horse Association.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Jenny and Rick Selle of Gurnee, Illinois; her father Ron Ruffolo of Highland Park, Illinois; maternal grandparents Fritz and Diana Runyon of Grayslake, Illinois; paternal grandparents Don and Glenna Ruffolo of Highland Park, Illinois; step-grandparents Doretta and Al Taylor of McHenry, Illinois; maternal great-grandmother Martha Hills Jordan of Madison, Wisconsin and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She loved all people and animals, and they loved her.
Visitation was Mon. Nov 4. at Rolling Chenal Funeral Home and services were Tues. Nov. 5 at First Baptist Church in Little Rock. Burial was at Natural Steps cemetery. Linda Scornavacco
Linda Scornavacco, 90, of Highland Park, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park. She was born November 10, 1912 in Taylor County, WI.
Survivors include one son Mike (Nancy) Scornavacco of Lake Forest; four grandchildren Jake, Zack, Taylor and Luke Scornavacco; two sisters Dorothy Evans of Milwaukee and Alice Elstrom of Highwood, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband Armand.

Michael V. Springer, Jr.
Michael V. "Mikey" Springer Jr., 21, of Zion died on Sunday, November 10, 2002 at Resurrection Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.
Mikey was born December 22, 1980 in Waukegan and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School the Class of 1999. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor where he also played drums and belonged to a small Wednesday night bible study group. This past summer he worked at Northpoint Marina and two weeks ago began working at Hewitt. He was also a member of the Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667 and he was a member of and volunteered much time to the Lake County Republican Federation. Mikey loved music of all kinds and participated in School Choirs through Jr. High and he was an avid Packer fan.
Mikey loved is family, especially his beloved Fiance, Melissa Kramer and as a devoted father, his son Dylan Michael Springer. Also surviving are his father Michael V. Springer Sr. of Winthrop Harbor and his mother Tammy Y. (Billy) Ruple also of Winthrop Harbor; brothers and sisters Kasey N. (Rob) Pogue of Libertyville, Michelle L. Springer of Zion and Megan M. Springer and James Branden Ruple both of Winthrop Harbor; maternal grandfather Gary (Maureen) Pospichel of McHenry; maternal grandmother Judith A. Steven Jessee James Watson, 31 days, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at Evanston Hospital. He was born October 11, 2002 at Evanston Hospital.
Survivors include his loving parents Jeff and Riki Watson; a sister Tiffany; 5 brothers, Joshua, Charles, Joshua, Dennis and Kevin; maternal grandparents; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandma Patricia Watson.

Harold E. Weinberg, Ret. C.F.D., 76, of Grapevine, TX, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2002 in Grapevine. He was born June 18, 1926 in Chicago and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army as 2nd Lt. He was a retired engineer for Chicago Fire Department with 33 years of service.
Survivors include his children Susan Weinberg, Nancy (Herman) Denzler, Debra (Saul) Friedman, and Daniel (Nancy) Weinberg; 5 grandchildren Kirsten Denzler, Brandon and Courtney Weinberg, and Nathan and Anne Friedman; a sister Ruth (Les) Carne; 2 brothers, Roy (Carol) Weinberg and Edward (Myrtle) Weinberg; and uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Anne (nee Ryan) and a son Harold E. Weinberg II.

Irene Keys
Irene Keys, 73, of Waukegan, IL, died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 14, 1930 in Alexandria, LA.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3109 Gilead Ave, Zion, IL and a Deaconess of the church. She was a foster mother for a host of foster children and family members, too.
She is survived by her husband, James C. Keys; daughters, Ethel (Sammie) Renix, Jcyekki (Aurther) Williams, Pheliar (Alton); son, Charles L. (Tiana) Keys; grandchildren, Gregory and Rodney Renix; great grandchildren, Godwin, Irene, Jerome, Alex, Quanda and Nathan; a host of close cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ophelia Jordan; her father, Anderson Boston; and many other relatives.

Michael H. Newman
Michael H. Newman, 28, of Libertyville died November 12, 2003 at home after an extended battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Born May 9, 1975 in Middletown, NY, Michael had lived in Libertyville since 1987.
He had attended NIU where he was a communications major. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville and the Knights of the Foot of the Cross at Marytown.
He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Mary Lou, his sisters, Mary (Jeff) Kerestury of Chicago and Deborah (Shawn) Jennsen of CA and his grandmothers, Katherine Tobias and Jan Spitz.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:30 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. Prayers will be offered Saturday morning at 9:30 at the funeral chapel. Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple St., Libertyville. Interment will follow the Mass at Ascension cemetery.
