Vernon Ray Bersie, 81, of Waukegan, died November 11, 2001 at the V.A. Medical Center.
He was born July 9, 1920 in Grenora, North Dakota. He was a 20 year retired Navy Chief, and a Pearl Harbor Survivor.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Waukegan; two sons, Larry (Mary Jo) of Silver Lake, WI, David (Susan) of Pleasant Prairie WI; three grandchildren, Dana C., Robyn M. and Jacob D. Bersie; a sister, Vickie Carroll of Bettendorf, IA; four step-grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Megan and Katie Martino. Preceded by a sister, Lynn Barrango.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME of Gurnee, 305 cemetery Road. Burial will be at Fort Sheridan cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14, 2001 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME of Gurnee.
Eddie Lee Crump
Eddie Lee Crump, 58, was born November 16, 1942 in Augusta Arkansas. He met with the Angels on November 10, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, Illinois. He accepted Christ at an early age. He moved from Newport, Arkansas to Waukegan, Illinois in 1964. He was employed at Saturn of Gurnee for many years. Eddie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Carrie Ann Presley on October 24, 1981.
Eddie leaves to cherish his loving memories to his loving devoted wife Carrie of 20 years; two daughters, Vivian West of Mt. Vernon, IL and Willie Ruth White of Newport AR; three stepsons, Rodney (Jessica) Tanner of Kenosha, WI, Henry Jermaine (Tiny) Presley of Phoenix, AZ; Timothy (Kim) Presley of Patterson, AR; his mother Veria James Crump of Newport AR; five brothers, Lewis (Verneal) Crump of Diaz AR, James (Keisha) Crump of Zion, IL; Otis Ward of St. Louis, MO; Pat Ward of Chicago, IL, O.C. (Irene) Crump of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Sherry (James) Reed of Newport, AR, LouIra (Perry) West of Newport, AR, Elnita (Max) Crump of Diaz, AR; twelve grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his fathers L.S. Crump and Otis Ward and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at the Jesus Name Apostolic Church, 208 Lake St, Waukegan, IL. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM until time of services. Ione C. Furlan, 69, of Libertyville died November 9, 2001 at Condell Medical Center.
She was born May 28, 1932 in North Chicago, Illinois and was a member of St. Dismas Catholic Church and Waukegan Yacht Club.
Survived by her husband, Frank J. of Libertyville; two daughters, Karen (Aaron) Akaka of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Diane (Patrick) Bleck of Libertyville; Three grandchildren, Chris and Kim Bleck, Kalei Akaka; one brother, Bernard Walenter of California.

Frederick A. Godin
Frederick A. Godin, 81, of Beach Park died November 11, 2001 at home.
Fredierick was born October 31, 1920 in Zion, the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Godin, and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was married
to the former Norma DePew on July 14, 1945 in Zion, and had worked at the Zion Lace Mill, Great Lakes, and retired from Anchor Coupling. He was a member of the Zion-Benton Moose Lodge, the Winthrop Harbor V.F.W., Anchor and Ark Lodge #1027, and was a past president of the Bristol Conservation Club. Frederick is survived by his wife, Norma; two daughters, Teresa (Byron) Gillett of Kenosha and Barb Commons of Zion; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Betty) Godin of Etowah, NC; and a sister, Evelyn (Carroll) Lother of Ft. Myers, FL.
A visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the CONDGON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Serivce will be private.

Age 81, of Waukegan died November 7, 2001 at Hilltop Center. Born September 28, 1920 in Dallas, TX. Member of Christian Science Church.
She is survived by her husband, James; two children, Dinah (Robert) Schupp and Michael (Martha) Dahl; five step-children, James D. (Marie) Hall, Barry Hall, Joel (Susan) Hall, Jeanne (Bruce) Brousseau and Betsy Hagan; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Betty A. Marcinkius
Betty A. Marcinkius, age 56, of Wadworth, formerly of Zion, died November 11, 2001 at the University of Illinois Hospital Chicago.
She was born September 3, 1945 in Zion and lived in this area her whole life. She was married
37 years to her loving husband Frank. She worked at Nosco for the last 32 years.
She is survived by husband Frank, sister Marlene (Tennes) Morris, and brothers, Karl, Al, Mike and Edwin M. Smith, Rev. David (Alice) Bergevin and Lory Bergevin, and nieces and nephews, and an aunt Ann Misketch.
She was preceded in death by her father Edwin M. Smith, her mother Lydia Smith (nee Trozik), her brother Joseph Bergevin and Aunt Elizabeth Slanta.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 15, 2001 at 9:30 AM at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL. Burial will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14, 2001 from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
Harold R. Neubauer
Harold R. Neubauer, of Oshkosh, WI, age 81, died November 8, 2001 in Retsil, WA.
He's lived in Vancouver, WA since 1978 after retiring from the Wisconsin Highway Patrol in 1977. Harold served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946, after which he joined the Illinois Highway Patrol in 1956. He became the administrative Assistant to the Chief in 1974. He was a member of the Illinois Police Association and was an avid model railroader. Harold is survived by his wife, Joan Fisher of Vancouver, WA; a step-daughter, Sheryl Palumhn of Walla Walla, WA; a step-son, Wallace Fisher Jr. of Walla Walla, WA and a brother, Edger and Ernestine Neubauer of Oshkosh, WI.
Burial will take place in Oshkosh, WI. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, of Vancouver, WA in charge of arrangements.
Memorials in Harold's name may be made to a favorite charity.
Bernardo G. Palacios, Jr.
Bernardo G. Palacios, Jr., 47, of Waukegan passed away Saturday, November 10, 2001 in Provena St. Therese Medical Center.
He was born February 26, 1954 in Poteet, Texas.
Bernie served in the U.S. Army for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; two children, Christina and Ross; two brothers, Narciso (Patricia) and John Paul (Betsy); a sister, Libby (Tom Elliott); his father, Bernardo, Sr of San Antonio, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Consuelo; and his sister, Bertha.
Funeral Services will be at 7 PM Tuesday, November 13, 2001 in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday, November 13, 2001 in the funeral home.
Gloria E. Ray
Gloria E. Ray, 83, of Zion died November 11, 2001 in Zion. Gloria was born April 1, 1918 in Chicago to the late John and Edna Gooden and came to Zion as a child with her family. She was married
to the late Robert Glenn Ray on May 28, 1940 in Chicago. She was a member of Christ Community Church where she was active for many years in the choir and Zion Passion Play. Over the years, she had worked at the Zion Dept. Store, Mr. Sam's, and was a cook at Lakeview and Central Schools.
Gloria is survived by two sons, Dennis of Zion and Timothy (Kim) of Wisconsin Dells; three grandchildren, Tricia (Jay) Blanchard, Julie Hammil and Timothy (Lynn) Ray; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Ower of Zion; a nephew, David Ower, Jr. of Palm Springs, California; and two nieces, Donita (Frank) Robinson of Peoria, Arizona and Marlene (Harold) Hensley of Brandon, Florida. She was preceded in death by an infant son; a grandson, Johathan; two brothers, Donald and Richard Gooden; and a niece, Darla Eatman.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. There will be no visitation. Memorials to Camp Zion would be appreciated in her memory. The CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion is serving the family.
Clarence (Bill) Steichmann
Clarence (Bill) Steichmann of Ingleside, Illinois passed away November 11, 2001 at the Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center in Lindenhurst, Illinois. Bill was born April 1, 1916 in Leavenworth, Kansas and moved to the Chicago area as a child. He married
his wife of 63 years, Hannah Burrows on June 18, 1938 in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Chicago. They moved to the Fox Lake area in June of 1946 where he became very active in the community. He served as the founding Cub Master for Cub Scout Pack 83 of Fox Lake and was a former member of the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department and a charter member of the Fox Lake Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Grant Community High School Board of Education serving from 1955 until 1973, where he served several terms as the board president. He was also a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge 115 of Grayslake, Illinois and a member and former president of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Skokie Valley Chapter 75.
Bill retired as an engineering supervisor from Teletype Corporation in 1978. After his retirement he became a snowbird and spent the winters in Florida where he made many new friends.
Survivors include his wife Hannah, one son, Bill Steichmann of Neoga, Illinois, two daughters, Margaret Paull of Fox Lake and Holly (Don) Ackerson of Seneca, South Carolina. He is also survived by three grandsons, Richard (Cheryl) Paull of Spring Grove, Illinois, Steven (Marie) Paull of Lake Villa, Illinois, and Timothy (Christina) Paull of Lake Zurich, Illinois and two granddaughters, Trudi Hansen, of Spring Grove, Illinois and Heather (Dan) Ewing of Spring Grove, Illinois. He leaves a great-grandson, Alexander Paull of Lake Villa, Illinois and two great-granddaughters, Rachel and Stephanie Paull of Spring Grove, Illinois.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the K. K. HAMSHER FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake, IL. (The Chapel on the Lake). Masonic Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 PM that evening at the Funeral Home. Interment the following day will be private. Paul Svendsen
Paul Svendsen, 78, of Libertyville, died Saturday, November 10, 2001 in Libertyville while playing golf. A game he dearly loved.
He was born July 6, 1923 in Peterson, Iowa and had been a resident of the Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville area for many years.
He was the founder and former owner of D.P.S., Inc. of Waukegan a data processing company that he sold in 1975.Mr. Svendsen was a graduate of Northwestern University where he attended on an Evans Scholarship.
During WWII he served as commander aboard a Navy LSM-20. Lieutenant Svendsen was one of five to survive the attack on his ship by a Japanese Kamikaze.
Now retired Mr. Svendsen served as a Range Officer at Countryside Golf Course in Mundelein.
He is survived by his wife Laura, his children, Larry (Gail) Svendsen of Grayslake, Joan (Jesse) Gutierrez of Joliet and Steven (Gilliam) Svendsen of Lake Bluff, and his grandchildren, Matthew, Kristen, Andrew and Sara Svendsen and Daniel and Jay Gutierrez.
Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at St. Joseph Church, 121 East Maple, Libertyville. There will be no public visitation. If desired memorial donations are requested to be directed to St. Joseph Church Endowment Fund, 121 East Maple Street, Libertyville, IL 60048 in Mr. Svendsen's honor.
