James J. Cooney
James J. Cooney, of Grayslake passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. A native of County Roscommon, Ireland, he has been a resident of Grayslake for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for Local #134 Electricians Union, Chicago and was a member of St. Gilbert Church, Grayslake, the Roscommon Social Club, Chicago and the Gaelic Football Teams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary J. (nee Gallagher) of Achill Island, County Mayo, Ireland; five children, Catherine E. Cooney of Waukegan, Patrick J. (Dixie) Cooney of Waukegan, Doreen (Don) Bunt of Rockford, Coleen (Matthew) Checkon of Grayslake and James F. Cooney of Grayslake; eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Colleen, Eileen, Bridget and Donny Bunt and Erika, Liam and Tara Cooney; a brother, Walter (Rose) Cooney of Bartlett; and two sisters, Elizabeth (Joseph) McGeever of Chicago and Maureen (Henry) Allen of Chicago; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Elizabeth (nee Carney) Cooney.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 from 3 to 9 PM at the SYMONDS-LAKES FUNERAL HOME, 111 West Belvidere Road, Grayslake. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at St. Gilbert Church, Grayslake. Interment will follow at All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. Linda S. Gossett
Linda S. Gossett, 62, of Libertyville, IL passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005 at the Condell Medical Center. She was born November 22, 1942 in Chicago and had been a Libertyville resident for the past 37 years. She was a graduate of Foreman High School in Chicago and received her B.S. in Education from Southern Illinois University. Linda was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Libertyville, was an interior decorator and the owner of Interior Decisions in Grayslake.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Donald L. Gossett of Libertyville; two daughters, Amy (John) Bendall of Lindenhurst and Lindsey (Ian) Kazian of Libertyville; five grandchildren, Evan, Eric, Elaina, Luke and Matthew; and her sister, Sandra (Gus) Monahu of Elk Grove Village.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Elena Sinagra.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the Grace Lutheran Church, 501 Valley Park Drive, Libertyville, with Pastor Gordon Cavers officiating. A private interment service will be held at Lakeside cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 PM on Tuesday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave (Rt. 176), Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory. .

Rosie (Curry) Johnson
Rosie (Curry) Johnson, 75, of Waukegan, IL was granted Eternal Rest by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 1, 2005 at Victory Memorial Hospital.
She was born on May 16, 1930 in Greenwood, MS to Samuel and Annie Mae Cole. Rosie accepted Christ many years ago. She was a resident of Illinois for over 50 years. She was a member of the Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church and she loved her church family. After the death of her first husband, Frank "Wee Wee" Curry, Rosie worked very faithfully for her family. Rosie's previous place of employment included Ft. Sheridan and the Skokie Valley Laundry. Rosie loved to cook big meals and Rosie always had enough for anyone in need. Her greatest hobby was fishing.
Rosie leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, William Johnson, who faithfully stood by her side; two daughters, Dianne Curry of Waukegan, IL and Bernice (Henry) Woods; a son, Frank (Karen) Curry of Florida; two sisters, Irene Butts of Waukegan, IL and Anne Lize of Kentucky; five brothers, Robert Cole of Chicago, IL, Dewitt (Stella) Cole of North Chicago, IL, Louis Cole of California, Leroy Cole and Lester Cole of St. Louis, MO; 10 grandchildren, E. Jason Curry (Courtney Curry), Stephanie Thorne, Stephone Garrett, Jonathan Garrett, Lisha (Jason) Booker, Henry Woods Jr., Darrell Woods, Frank Curry Jr, Akili Curry (Jessica Curry) and Eric Curry; 20 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother and sisters-in-law; and a very dear sister-in-law, Beulah Curry.
Rosie was preceded in passing by her parents, Samuel and Annie Mae Cole; two brothers, Sam and Archie Cole; and three sisters, Louise, Annie Allen and Mamie Martin.
Rosie was affectionately known as Rose.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 11 AM at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL with Rev. Henry Woods, Pastor. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 AM at the church. James Bethel Rooks, Jr.
James Bethel Rooks, Jr. died of a sudden illness in Seattle, Washington on October 21, 2005. Jim was born on April 6, 1942 in Zion, Illinois. After graduating from Zion-Benton High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for six years. He served an additional four years in the National Guard. He and Audrey Hoyt were married on October 4, 1965. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Christine, Matthew and Nathaniel.
Jim earned a degree in Bio-engineering from the University of Illinois at Circle Campus in Chicago and worked in that field in California for 12 years, and in Redmond, Washington, where he and his family moved in 1988.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. The fact that he was born on his sister, Genevra's birthday when his mother was 47 years old made him an especially welcome addition to the Rooks family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He loved sailing his boat in the San Juan Islands and playing bluegrass music at the many festivals he attended. He was an accomplished mandolin, blue grass bass, and guitar player. He also enjoyed bridge, ice hockey, skiing, and snow-boarding.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura Rooks; his brother, Lt. Col. David L. Rooks; and brothers-in-law, Donald Ower and Robert Garbutt.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; daughter, Christine (Sean) Beermann; sons, Matthew and Nathaniel; and grandchildren, Heather and Justin Lamb. He is also survived by five sisters, Merrill Garbutt, Florene (Gene) Neave, Genevra Ower, Ellen (Dr. Arthur) Falk and Roselyn (Wiley) Krapf; sister-in-law, Rita Rooks; his beloved pet parrot, Einstein; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on November 12, 2005 at Christ Community Church, Zion. Visitation will begin at 10 AM followed by the service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions for a memorial for Jim would be appreciated. They may be made to the James B. Rooks Memorial Fund, Bank of Waukegan, 700 N. Sheridan Rd., Winthrop Harbor, IL, 60096.

Thomas J. Sachs
Thomas J. Sachs, age 61, of Kenosha, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Midwestern Hospital in Zion, IL.
Born on November 23, 1943 in North Hammersmith, England. He was the son of the late Frank and Hilda (Hipsher) Sachs.
He served in the U.S. Marines from January 1962 to November 1966 and then in the Seabees from July 1968 till his retirement in May of 1983.
On September 15, 2002 he married Christine O'Leary in Kenosha.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1865, FRA, NRA, the American Legion Post #21 and the Disabled Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife Christine of Kenosha; son, David Sachs of Gulfport, MA; daughters, Tina (Thomas) Abshire of Gulfport, MS, Beth (Greg) Smith of West Allis, WI, Joy (James) Boie of Boyd, WI; brother, John (Rosie) Sachs of Mobile, Alabama; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home. Interment with full Military Honors will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family would be appreciated.

Secundino R. Veiga MD
Secundino R. Veiga, MD, age 75, a resident of Zion, IL, died November 3, 2005 at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie.
Born on January 10, 1930 in Sagua La Grande, Cuba, he was the son of the late Secundino and Juana (Iturralde) Veiga.
On January 19, 1957 he married Jean Wilkinson at St. Romans Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Havana Medical School and interned at Charles Wilson Memorial Hospital in New York. His residency was at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago, IL. He was a Pathologist at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Chicago Medical School and Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL. He was a member of St. Romans Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. He was a Fello at the College of American Pathology and the American Society of Clinical Pathologist. He was listed in the Who's Who of American Specialist Physicians and was a long time member of Lake County Medical Society and the American Medical Association.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; four children, Richard Veiga MD of Waupaca WI, Peter Veiga of Zion, IL, AnaMaria (William) Veiga Wright of Windamere, FL, and Paul Veiga of Lake Zurich, IL; and many nieces and nephews and his little dog "Mikey".
Services for Dr. Veiga will be private. The family has placed their confidence in Family Options Funeral and Cremation Services.

Norman E. Bromstead
Mr. Norman E. "Shorty" Bromstead, 84, of Kenosha, died Sunday morning, November 4, 2001, at his home.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on January 27, 1917, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Robertine (Ladainue) Bromstead.
He and his family moved to Zion, Illinois when he was seven years of age. He has resided in Kenosha since September 1957. He has also spent the winters in Phoenix, Arizona since 1979.
He attended public schools in Winnipeg and in Zion, graduating from Zion-Benton High School in 1935. He had also attended various technical schools around the nation as part of his civil service training requirements.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He entered the service on October 14, 1942 and was honorably discharged as a Tech 5 on December 8, 1945. Primarily assigned to the 391st Signal Company, he was involved with campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one bronze battle star, a good conduct medal, four overseas service bars and the World War II Victory Medal. On November 23, 1944, during his enlistment, he became a citizen of the United States.
He married Laura A. Monahan on July 19, 1947 in Waukegan, Illinois.
He was employed at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes for over thirty one years, retiring in 1977. An Electronics Instrumentation Technician he worked at the Electronic Service Operations and the Base Calibration Department.
He was a licensed Ham Radio Operator, and also enjoyed photography and traveling. He was Past President of the Wisconsin Unit of the Wally Byan Air Stream Caravan Club, and former Secretary for the Fountain Lake Land Yacht Harbor Air Stream Park in Almond, Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife, Laura; three daughters, Sandra (Gary) Hodal of Kenosha, Jean (Rick) Spaulding and Debra (Scott) Brown, both of Phoenix, Arizona; a son, David (Deborah) Bromstead of Phoenix; two brothers, Edward (Jane) Bromstead of Dublin, CA and Lauren Bromstead of Panama City, FL; a sister, Eileen Globis of Deerfield Beach, FL; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, in infancy; a brother, Leonard Bromstead; and three sisters, Edna Stried, Estelle Wood and Lillian Jensen.
The Funeral Service for Norman E. "Shorty" Bromstead will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday morning, November 8, 2001, at BRUCH FUNERAL HOME, 3503 Roosevelt Road, Kenosha, WI 53142. Interment will be at North Shore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, November 7, 2001 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shorty's memory would be greatly appreciated.

Edward A. "Harper" "Moose" Fleming
Edward A. "Harper" "Moose" Fleming, 83, a longtime Gurnee Resident, died November 2, 2001 in Libertyville.
"Harper" was born April 19, 1918 in Waukegan, the son of the late George and Beatrice (nee Hatton) Fleming, and married the former Shirley E. Richardson on May 17, 1941 at Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan. "Harper" served in the Army during WWII and was a Prisoner of War. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee, and was a former member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park. He was retired from Civil Service at Great Lakes, and has also worked at Condell Hospital and Coral Chemical. "Harper" was a member of the Zion-Benton Moose Club and the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Bertrands. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, horseshoe throwing and cards. He was also an artist, painting and carving miniature wildlife.
"Harper" is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, Michael J. (Alice) of Antioch and Timothy J. (Nancy) of Hawaii; three grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew and Derek; a brother, George "Pat" of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilbert, Milton and James.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Gages Lakes and Hunt Club Roads, Gurnee. Visiting will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will be private. A luncheon after the service will be held at In-Laws Restaurant in Gurnee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Salvation Army would be appreciated in his memory.
