Charles L. (Chuck) Diesner
Charles L. (Chuck) Diesner, 72, of Winthrop Harbor, died on Friday, November 1, 2002 in Waukegan. He was born April 5, 1930 in Waukegan, Illinois.
He was co-owner of Glen Flora Citgo, later of Greenwood Union 76 and he retired from the News-Sun in 1995 after 38 years of service. After retirement, he was a shuttle driver for Classic Chevrolet. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served with the Army from 1951-1953. He was a member of the Waukegan Elk Lodge #702 and was past President of the Lake County Vette Set Corvette Club. His love of cars was only surpassed by the love for his family and home.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Therese "Terry" Diesner; three sons, Todd Diesner of Park City, Curt (Elaine) Diesner of Winthrop Harbor and Dru Diesner of Libertyville; five grandchildren, Jason, Derek, Kristy, Kyle and Kayla; one sister, Leatrice (Carl) Palmer of Milton, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Sue Delster of Payson, Arizona; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Lorraine Diesner and brother-in-law, Richard Delster.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at 10:00AM at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with Rev. Patrick Cecil of St. Patrick's Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mr. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at the Funeral Home.
Memorials to St. Luke's Coronary Care Unit have been suggested.

Mary A. Flake
Funeral Service for Mary A. Flake, 96, of Mundelein is 11:00 AM Saturday November 2, 2002 at KRISTAN FUNERAL HOME P.C., 219 W. Maple Ave. (2 blocks west of Rt. 45 on Rt. 176) Mundelein.
She was born in Greaney, MN on September 10, 1906. She died on October 30, 2002 at her home.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Flake, loving mother of Winifred Sage of Round Lake Park, and Valerie Fandrich of Mundelein, cherished grandmother of Kenneth R. (Yvonne) Sage, Kim Courtland, and Dawn (Andy) Chychula, dear great grandmother of Coty and Courtney Sage, Adriana and Christina Chychula, and Stephanie, adoring sister of Val Prepodnik of Cook, MN, Joe Prepodnik of Greaney, MN, and Marge Monriquez. She was preceded in death by dear brothers Blaze, Victor, Albert, and Frank Prepodnik, loving sister Katherine Wilson, dear grandchildren Valley Marie Atherton and Steven Grouney.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday November 2, 2002 at Kristan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family. For info 847-566-8020.

Eugene F. Geiger
Eugene F. Geiger, 83 years old, of Antioch, IL, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2002 at The Fountains of Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake, IL. He was born March 29, 1919 in Chicago, the son of the late Anna Gebhardt Geiger, moving to Antioch in 1951.
Gene served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #748 of Antioch. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Antioch, serving on the Church Council as past President, Secretary and Treasurer. He also served on the Church Board and Building Committee and was instrumental in the building of the church, school and parsonage. For over 50 years, he was a member of the IBEW Union Local 134 in Chicago and Local 150 in Waukegan and was a union electrician in Lake County for many years. He also was a past President of the Retirees Club of the Union. His activities included gardening, wood crafting and following the Cubs and Bears.
On February 13, 1943 he married Margaret Hawkins in Chicago.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kenneth (Donna) Geiger of Antioch; two daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Craig of Yorkville, IL and Barbara Geiger of Lindenhurst, IL; one brother, Harvey Geiger of Morton Grove, IL; three grandchildren, Jennifer A. (Tim) McDermott, Brian E. (Lisa McKelvy) Geiger and Adam W. Geiger and a great-granddaughter, Alexis McDermott.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1275 Main St. (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West, 83 and Roosevelt Rd., Oakbrook Ter., IL at 2:00PM. Friends may call at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) from 4 until 8PM Monday and at the Church Tuesday from 9:00AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, in his memory.

Mary Catherine (Walt) Godsey
Mary Catherine (Walt) Godsey, 55, born September 24, 1947. On Saturday, November 2, 2002, God invited Mary into His Kingdom. Living her whole life dedicated to helping those around her, Mary will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and a member of St. Dismas Catholic Church.
She leaves behind her husband of 34 years, Roy; four loving sons, Charles, Christopher, Craig and Timothy; her sister, Barbara (Charles) Marguardt; and her brothers, William and Michael; and a host family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ambrose; her mother, Frances; and her brother, Leo.
There will be visitation at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL. on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 from 5 to 8 PM and November 6, 2002 from 9 AM to 10 AM with a service to follow.
The family requests that no flowers be sent. One of Mary's sayings was, "I want my flowers while I can enjoy them, not after I'm gone."

Christel C. Haselhorst
Christel C. Haselhorst, 44 years old, of Lindenhurst, IL, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2002 at her home after a long illness. She was born March 2, 1958 in Damar, Kansas, the daughter of James and Marilyn (Shook) Thyfault, moving to Lindenhurst in 1991.
Christel was a bus driver for the Millburn Grade School and was active in the PTO and many other school activities. She attended St. Patrick Church in Wadsworth, IL.
On November 3, 1979 she married Ronald J. Haselhorst in Hays, Kansas.
Survivors include her husband and her children, Rachel and Tara; her parents, James and Marilyn Thyfault of Hays, Kansas; two brothers, Greg (Becky) Thyfault of Lawrence, Kansas and Daniel Thyfault of Hill City, Kansas; three sisters, Pamela (Ron) Rudman of Palco, Kansas, Laurie Beicker of Colby, Kansas and Angela (Oliver) Brand in Germany and her mother-in-law, Theresa Haselhorst of Hays, Kansas.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, November 7, 2002 at St. Patrick Church, 1500 Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL. Interment will be in Millburn cemetery, Millburn, IL. Friends may call at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), Antioch, IL from 4 until 8PM Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, in her memory.

Sylvia S. Krikorian
Sylvia S. Krikorian, 90, of Waukegan, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002 at Winchester House in Libertyville. She was born August 13, 1912 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident.
She is survived by her daughter, Marigene (Don) Kennedy of Gurnee ; her sister, Virginia George of Waukegan; grandchildren, Terri (Rob) Grasty, Chris Kennedy, Michael (Justyn) Rickher, Barbara (fiance Jeff Mondeick) Rickher, Susan (Alex) Arteaga and James Rickher; she is also survived by her great-grandchildren that she was so proud of and who loved her very much, Sarah and Jessica Grasty and Sasha and Nia Arteaga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mugger; daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Rickher and son-in-law, Charles Rickher; sisters, Lucille Zens, Alice Thielmann; brothers, Paul and Henry Gourekian; parents, Bedros and Highouhe (nee Simonian) Gourekian. Sylvia is also survived by her extended family, the fourth floor staff who cared, loved and respected her. We thank them for their kindness to all of us.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Peterson-Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan with Rev. Dr. Gehl Devore officiating. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia's memory may be made to Winchester House, 1125 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Libertyville, IL 60048-1399.

George J. Mattes, Jr.
George J. Mattes, Jr., 68, of Mundelein, died suddenly October 31, 2002 at Condell Hospital. He was born October 17, 1934 in Chicago and had lived most of his life in Mundelein. He served in the Tank Division in the U.S. Army. He was a retired foreman for ComEd, an avid golfer, and a member of the Countryside Senior Mens Golf League. He was a member of Santa Maria del Popolo Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Jeannette (nee Clarke).
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Santa Maria del Popolo Church. Interment will be at Calvary cemetery in Ottowa, IL. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at MCMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville.

Ruth L. Packelly
Ruth L. Packelly, 73, of Beach Park, Illinois, died on Saturday, November 2, 2002 at Pavilion of Waukegan. Ruth was born on April 15, 1929 in Oshkosh, WI and lived in the Beach Park area most of her life.
She was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Zion, and had a passion for baking, candy making and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Marie (Ron) Schreiber of Winthrop Harbor; one son, Charles Packelly of Beach Park; two grandchildren, Kayla and Emily Schreiber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1987, by a grandson, Cole Tyler Grimsic-Packelly, one sister, Harriet and her father and mother, Leo and Violet Tadych.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 6, 2002 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will be Thursday at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, with the procession leaving the Funeral Home at 10:00AM.

Alexander "Alex" Serzynski
Alexander "Alex" Serzynski, 70, of Zion and formerly of North Chicago, died Friday, November 1, 2002 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan.
He was born September 2, 1932 in North Chicago, IL and lived in this area all of his life. He was retired and worked for Zide Construction and was a member of Union Carpenter Local 250. He was a former member of Holy Rosary Church. Alex was an Army Veteran of The Korean Conflict.
He is survived by three children, Susan (Dale) Lehman of Zion, James (Kimberly) Serzynski of Antioch, and John (Christina) Serzynski of Kenosha; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Jason and Kimberly Lehman, Stephanie and Jennifer Serzynski, Johnathon, Alec and Kathleen Serzynski; brothers, Julian "Mike" (Ann) Serzynski of Waukegan, Casimir (Marie) Serzynski of Waukegan, Joseph and Peter Serzynski both of North Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia in 1995; his parents, Charles and Mary; brothers, Paul, John and Al; and sister, Dorothy Tutino.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at THE SALATA FUNERAL HOME, 729-14th St., North Chicago, IL.

Norvell H. Yordt
Norvell H. Yordt, 89, a retired printer/machinist, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at home.
Mr. Yordt was born in St. Louis, Mo. He moved to Brevard County in 1975 from Hollywood, Fla. He and his wife, Adelphine, had previously lived in Gages Lake, Ill.
Mr. Yordt was a U.S. Navy veteran having served from 1930 to 1950. He entered the service at the age of 16 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer Machinist. He was a veteran of the Sino-Japanese Conflict and served in China and during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, both in Titusville.
Mr. Yordt is survived by his oldest son, John N. Yordt and his wife, Cheri L. Yordt of La Habra, Calif., and his grandson, Joshua J. Yordt; second son, Terrence H. Yordt of Henderson, Nev., and his wife, Suzanne J. Yordt, grandson, Joseph H. Yordt of Miliken, Colo. and his wife, Kimberly H. Yordt, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Haylee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Adelphine Van Haecke Yordt, who passed away in Titusville in 1993.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis in Titusville or to St. Vincent's German Orphanage in Normandy, Mo.
Brevard Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
