Philip Abbinanti
Philip Abbinanti, 90, formerly of North Chicago passed away in Denver, CO on Tuesday, October 29, 2002. Born August 24, 1912 in Bari, Italy. The son of the late Dominic Abbinanti and Chiara Gritanni. Mr. Abbinanti was a long time resident of North Chicago and was a member of Holy Rosary Church. He retired from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center after 25 years where he worked as an ambulance driver. Philip enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his retirement in Arizona and Colorado.
He leaves his daughter Mary (John) Hollinger of Westminster, CO; son Donald (Carol) Abbinanti of Grayslake. 5 grandchildren Jack (Julie) Abbinanti of Lake Villa, Catheryn Abbinanti of Austin, TX, Michael Abbinanti of Wildwood, Lara (Jon) Yourkin of North Glenn, CO, Anthony Hollinger of Westminster, CO. 2 great grandchildren Daniel and Dale Abbinanti. Sisters Grace Rimicci of Elmwood Park, Mary Veronica of Berwyn and Rose Salako also of Berwyn. He is preceded in death by his wife Annette in 1991, sister Philomena Carioscia and brothers Vito Veronica and Michael Veronica.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 4, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Friends of the family may visit at the Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Stuart B. Ashenfelter
Stuart B. Ashenfelter, 47, of Waukegan passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at home.
He was born September 30, 1955 in Springfield, IL.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 150, was a Heavy Equipment Operator by trade and loved snowmobiling and stock cars.
He is survived by his loving companion, Mary Bradbury of Waukegan; his parents, Richard and Shirley Ashenfelter of Glenview, IL; and a brother, Scott (Eva) Ashenfelter of Libertyville.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 PM Saturday, November 2, 2002 in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be 1-7 PM Saturday only at the funeral home.

Berggren, Robert "Bob"
Robert "Bob" Berggren, age 82, of Park City, IL passed away on October 29, 2002.
He is survived by his son Don of Fox River Grove and his daughter Judie (Henry) Bieniek of Ingleside; seven grandchildren, and 15 great grand children and his special friend Connie Kadziavskas.
Services are private.
Albert James Blaha
Albert James Blaha, 82, of Waukegan passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center. He was born December 21, 1919 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident. Albert had been a member of St. Anastasia Parish since its dedication in 1927 and worked tirelessly for the church. He was a veteran of WW II, member of St. Anastasia Holy Name Society, Waukegan American Legion Post 281, Waukegan Council of the Knights of Columbus, NALC Branch 409 retirees, and St. Therese Auxiliary. He retired from the Waukegan Post Office as Chief Financial Officer.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel (nee Hagen); 1 sister, Catherine (Olaf) Pekkarinen of Waukegan; many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews to whom he was completely devoted.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Kitty (nee Brown) Blaha.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2002 at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. Tycho Brahe Dovel
Tycho Brahe Dovel, 14, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born June 19, 1988 in Lake Forest and had been a Libertyville resident for most of his life. Tycho was in the 8th grade at Highland Middle School and was very active in sports, including football, wrestling, track and baseball. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Libertyville, the Wyldlife Christian Group and was a boy who loved life and was given the gifts of athleticism, charisma, humor and the arts.
Surviving are his parents, Dennis and Barbara (nee Brahe) Dovel, his sister Jamie and brothers Michael and Nicholas, all of Libertyville; his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Eleanor Dovel of Elkhart, Indiana and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Brahe and aunt Bonnie Brahe Schaeffer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 4 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 29700 N. St. Mary's Road, Libertyville. An interment service for the family will be held on Tuesday at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. The family requests no flowers, but contributions to the Tycho Dovel Fund, c/o Libertyville Bank & Trust, 507 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048 would be appreciated. .
Frances V. Gantor
Frances V. Gantor, 88, of Waukegan, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at her home. She was born June 1, 1914 in Highland Park and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors include a son Jack Gantor of Highland Park; a daughter Regina F. (Robert) Miller of Beach Park; and 3 grandchildren, Steven Hall, Jeremy Hall and Susan Gantor. She was preceded in death by her husband John on February 24, 1999; 2 brothers, George Bergdahl and Leonard (Bub) Bergdahl; and 2 sisters, Alice Gantor and Helen McOmber.
Burial will be private at Ascension cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Frances's memory to Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan. MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN is assisting the family.
Walter J. Graham, Sr.
Walter J. Graham, Sr. 76, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Wadsworth, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 14, 1926 in Chicago, IL.
He worked for A & P Tea Company for 32 years until they left the area. He subsequently worked for and retired from Berry Tire in Libertyville. He was a Veteran of WW II.
Walter leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years Shirley (nee Smith) of Lakeland, FL, his son Corky (Julie) of Palm Harbor, FL, his daughter Doreen of Zion, 4 grandchildren, David (Jeri) Graham of Antioch, Matthew Graham of Winthrop Harbor, Erica and Lenny Gajewski of Palm Harbor, FL, 3 great grandchildren, D.J., and twins Cameron and Cassandra of Antioch and his sister, Marie (Bob) French of Solana Beach, CA.
He was preceded in death by his brother Elmer Graham.

George J. Mattes, Jr.
George J. Mattes, Jr., 68, of Mundelein, died suddenly October 31, 2002 at Condell Hospital. He was born October 17, 1934 in Chicago and had lived most of his life in Mundelein. He served in the Tank Division in the U.S. Army. He was a retired foreman for ComEd, an avid golfer, and a member of the Countryside Senior Mens Golf League. He was a member of Santa Maria del Popolo Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Jeannette (nee Clarke).
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Santa Maria del Popolo Church. Interment will be at Calvary cemetery in Ottowa, IL. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at MCMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Place, Libertyville.
Joseph F. Nader
Joseph F. Nader, 96 years old, of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, IL. He was born December 8, 1905 in Kenosha, WI, the son of the late Frank and Anna (Anderson) Nader and has lived in Lake Villa all of his life.
As a young man, he worked for the Nader Resort on Deep Lake doing many varied jobs. He later became a carpenter contractor working many years in the area and was a 60 year member of the Carpenters Union Local #250 of Waukegan, IL. For over 50 years he was a volunteer Fireman for Lake Villa and for over 50 years a member of the Millburn Masonic Lodge #120 A.F. & A.M. Joe had a full life enjoying Ballroom Dancing, Playing Bingo, Fishing and traveling with the Kenosha and Des Plaines Chapter of the Holiday Ramblers. For many years, he enjoyed his home in Chetek, WI, where he often went to fish and be with his family.
On June 30, 1925, he married
Hilda Tweed in Waukegan, IL and she preceded him in death on August 15, 1987 after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include his daughter, Marlene (Tony) Coia of Antioch; his son Ralph (Anneliese) Nader of Westfield, WI; his daughter-in-law, Shirley Nader of Lake Villa; a brother, Carl (Mildred) Nadr of Antioch; two sisters, Bernice Armstrong and Ellen Petersen, both of Lake Villa; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Nader, Jr. in 1974; three brothers, Henry, Clarence and Roy; three sisters, Marie Nader, Anna Almquist and Pauline Schneider.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, November 4, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83), with the Rev. Gary L. Curl of the United Methodist Church of Antioch officiating. Interment will be in East Fox Lake cemetery, Lake Villa, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 8PM, Sunday.

Howard Jacob Nauta
Howard Nauta, a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend has died at home in Rogue River, Oregon. He was born September 17, 1915 and died October 30, 2002. He was 87.
Howard was born, raised, and spent most of his life in Waukegan, Illinois. As a youth he helped support his family during the depression with the proceeds from his paper route. After studying engineering, he entered the career that would last his lifetime. During World War II Howard spent six years as an aircraft engineer for Howard Hughes (Hughes Aircraft) and General Dynamics. Here Howard designed portions of the famous "Spruce Goose" wooden airplane, and the landing gear and the hydraulics for the B24 and the B36 bombers. One of Howard's special assignments was designing the flight controls and the mechanical portions of the first air-to-air missile. Howard's longest and last engineering service was with Abbott Laboratories where his accomplishments were notable. Some of his designs were patented and his bottle design for administering intravenous fluids carries his name.
Howard and his wife Josephine retired to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where they spent many happy days golfing. Howard never met a stranger, and had many cherished friends every where he went. Later, he and Josephine moved to Rogue River, Oregon, where Josephine has grandchildren.
Howard will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, his common sense, and his clear knowledge of right and wrong. Howard is predeceased by his first wife Marian, his only son Douglas, and his sister Gladys. Those left to carry his memory in their hearts are his wife Josephine (Stonis); his daughters Dr. Linda (Ben) Waud, San Francisco, California; Karen (Harry) Miller, Hypoluxo, Florida; Sally (Ty) Minnix, Indialantic, Florida; his step-son Vince Stonis, Woodstock, Illinois; his sister Loraine Brubaker, Mountain, Wisconsin, and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces. Also, surviving are best friends Bob and Elinor Ostrander, Willie Koivunen, Dutch Cousin Jack and Marge Postman, and a host of others.

Al Volz
Al Volz, 74, of Lake Bluff, died suddenly October 30, 2002 at his home. He was born March 14, 1928 in Indiana and had been a Lake Bluff resident for the past 32 years. Al had retired from Libertyville High School, was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville.
Survived by his daughter Valerie Ann of Lake Bluff, and his sister Theresia Denning of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace (nee Mutz) of 47 years, 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 2, 2002 at MCMURROUGH CHAPEL, 101 Park Pl., Libertyville. Interment at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Norvell H. Yordt
Norvell H. Yordt, 89, a retired printer/machinist, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at home.
Mr. Yordt was born in St. Louis, Mo. He moved to Prevard County in 1975 from Hollywood, Fla. He and his wife, Adelphine, had previously lived in Gages Lake, Ill.
Mr. Yordt was a U.S. Navy veteran having served from 1930 to 1950. He entered the service at the age of 16 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer Machinist. He was a veteran of the Siho-Japanese Conflict and served in China and during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, both in Titusville.
Mr. Yordt is survived by his oldest son, John N. Yordt and his wife, Cheri L. Yordt of La Habra, Calif., and his grandson, Joshua J. Yordt; second son, Terrence H. Yordt of Henderson, Nev., and his wife, Suzanne J. Yordt, grandson, Joseph H. Yordt of Miliken, Colo. and his wife, Kimberly H. Yordt, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Haylee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Adelphine Van Haecke Yordt, who passed away in Titusville in 1993.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis in Titusville or to St. Vincent's German Orphanage in Normandy, Mo.
