Christine Lexau
Christine Lexau, beloved daughter of George and the late Marion Lexau passed away May 29, 2003 after a brief battle with cancer. Chris grew up in Long Lake. She spent the last 22 years living and working in the Cayman Islands.
She is survived by her father George (LaVerne) Lexau, sisters Linda Reiff and Janet (Marty) Padilla and nephews Mark and Tim Reiff.
Visitation will be Friday, June 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Long Lake, IL. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. Lester R. "Les" Mathews
Lester R. "Les" Mathews passed away May 28, 2003 at Evanston Hospital. He was born in Waukegan on November 1, 1926. He attended Zion Benton Township High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Les relocated to Denver, Colorado for 21 years, returning to Gurnee in 1969. He was a long time active member of Christ Episcopal Church and served several terms on the vestry as well as verger and usher. Les retired as the co-owner of Olson Oil Company in December of 1994. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by two sons L. Richard (Rick) Mathews Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Michael William (Tina) Mathews of Wadsworth; grandchildren Michelle S. (Scott) Vasquez of Gurnee, Melissa W. (Kevin) Williams of Zion, Tiffany M. Mathews of Balsam, North Carolina and Tony E. Mathews of Dallas, Texas. He was the proud great grandfather of Jonathon-Tyler T. Vasquez and Tyler A. Williams. He is also survived by his three brothers, Raymond R. Mathews of Zion, John W. (Catherine) Mathews of Denver, Colorado and Richard J. (Eleanor) Mathews of Pine, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Ann V. (Pappas) Mathews, parents Richard P. and Martha M. Mathews and his sister Irene M. Goodrich.
He will be dearly missed by his family, his extended family of friends, and treasured companion, Ginnie Barnich.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd. Virginia F. Peterson
Virginia F. Peterson, 90, of Beach Park died on Friday, May 30, 2003 at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, Zion. Virginia was born April 5, 1913 in Chicago where she attended Carl Schurz High School and was a member of Irving Park Baptist Church. Recently she was a member of First Baptist Church in Waukegan. She was employed by Bowman Dairy of Chicago, and was bookkeeper for Alan Jacobs Accounting and J.Simcic & Sons Builders both in Waukegan. She was also a member of Easter Star, was an avid gardener and enjoyed embroidery and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Ron) Howard of Galesville, Wisconsin; a grandchild, Ann Howard; and a sister, LaVern (Fred) Pitts of Mandeville, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Peterson; and by a brother, Robert Eggleston; and her parents, H.C. and Florence Eggleston.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, 401 N. Genesee Street, Waukegan with Pastor Keith Cerk officiating. Private interment will be Wednesday at Rosehill cemetery, Chicago. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3, 2003 from 1 PM until time of services at First Baptist Church. Helen Marie Van Eeckhout
Helen Marie Van Eeckhout, age 93, of Wisconsin, formerly a resident of Lake Forest from 1946 to 1963, died May 25, 2003 in Oshkosh, WI. She was born in Highland Park, IL on November 6, 1909. Mrs. Van Eeckhout was a former member of the Lake Forest Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband the late Maurice in 1993 and also preceded in death by her six sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Charles A. (Audrey) Van Eeckhout of Deerfield, IL and William M. (Susan) Van Eeckhout of Menasha, WI. Grandmother of Douglas C. (Sharon), Blaine W. (Christine) and Craig C. Great grandmother of Nathaniel, Joel and Adah. Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Wendy A. White (nee Hologa)
Wendy A. White (nee Hologa), age 50, a longtime resident of Cicero, IL and a summer resident at Fish Lake Beach in Volo since 1981, formerly of Wisconsin, completed her valiant 11 year battle with cancer on Friday, May 30, 2003 at home.
She was born on July 10, 1952 in Milwaukee, WI to Dolores "Dolly" (nee Rezny) and Gregory C. Hologa I. She graduated from Morton East High School, and had been employed with Jewel Foods in Stickney, IL as a baker since 1991. She had also been formerly employed by the Morton E. High School, and had worked in the school's staff cafeteria.
She was a member of the Royal Aires Drum and Bugle Corp of Chicago, and had participated in the Avon Three Day Breast Cancer Walk which originated in Kenosha, WI and ended in Chicago, IL. She had especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband Roger Dale White I of Cicero, IL with whom she was united in marriage on August 16, 1980 in Spring Grove, IL, her children: Jamine White of Bolingbrook, IL, Roger Dale White II, Daniel White, Dalese White, all of Cicero, her mother, Dolores "Dolly" Hologa of Spring Grove, IL, her brothers, Kenneth (Barb) Hologa of Brookfield, IL, Greg Hologa of Sandwich, IL and Marty Hologa of Spring Grove, IL. Nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gregory C. Hologa I in 1995 and by an infant brother Marion Hologa.
Friends of the family may call on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 from 5-9 p.m. at the K.K. HAMSHER FUNERAL HOME, 12 Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake, IL (The Chapel On The Lake - 1 bl. W. of Rte 12, 1/2 bl. Rose L. Cram
Rose L. Cram, 84, of Waukegan passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion. She was born May 18, 2003 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident.
Rose was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School, member of the U.S. Steel Retirees Club and had retired, as a computer operator, from Fort Sheridan, prior to that she had worked at American, Steel and Wire Co. Waukegan Plant.
She is survived by her daughter, Alberta "Sandy" (Tom) Oberembt of Pleasant Prairie, WI and her son, Randy Cram of Somers, WI; her grandchildren, Christine Oberembt, Scott Oberembt, Kimberly Cram and Tiffany Cram; and her sister, Sylvia Burkenheim of Waukegan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Cram, also by her parents, Albert and Esther (nee Nadler) Cram; and sister, Margaret Teegarden.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at PETERSON-PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan. Interment will be at Am Echod cemetery in Waukegan. Patricia L. Barnstable
Patricia L. Barnstable, 58 years old, of Antioch, IL, formerly of Round Lake Beach and Chicago, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born September 23, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline (Piwowarczyk) Podwojski. She was the most caring and loving person, who was loved by all who ever knew her and will be greatly missed. Her most precious enjoyment was the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and many boating friends.
She was employed for over 20 years as a documentation technician for Baxter Renal Division in McGraw Park, IL where she had many friends.
She leaves to love and cherish her beautiful memories, her husband Jim; her son Christopher (Sue) Sugrue of Trevor, WI; her daughter Audra (Rodney) Outinen of Ingleside, IL; her two grandchildren, the loves of her life, Amanda and Hillary; her brothers: Fred Podwojski of Maui, Hawaii and Ray (Karen) Podwojski of Chicago, IL; and her sister, Judy (Dan) Hegg of Lindenhurst, IL.
Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at St. Peter Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch, IL. Grace A. Bolger
Grace A. Bolger, 89, of North Chicago, IL, formerly of Watertown, WI, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Winchester House in Libertyville. She was born April 10, 1913 in Dodge County, WI and was a member of Queen of Peace Church. She was also a member of Foss Park Senior Citizens, Holy Family Choir, Past North Chicago Co-President of P.T.O. and TNT Square Dancing Club. Grace began her teaching career, teaching first in a one room school in Watertown, WI. After raising her family, she continued her teaching at Holy Family and Spaulding School, retiring in 1972.
Survivors include her 3 children, David (Linda) of Littleton, CO, Ann of Middleton, WI and Colleen (Patrick) Dillon of Waukegan; 11 grandchildren, Rebecca and Mathew Bolger, Kathleen (Eric) Orlow, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Bolger-Thompson, Dr. Cecilia Bolger-Garrison, Kathryn and Seth Bolger-Garrison, James Hensley, Sarah Dillon, Benjamin (fiance Crystal Wojnarowski) Dillon and Emily Dillon; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1999, daughter Mary Hensley, brothers and sister Raphael, Ervin, Frances, Laverne Klinger and Marie Richter. Also by her parents Bernard and Grace Klinger.

Carey Dean Curry
Carey Dean Curry, age 56, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2002 at the Loretto Hospital, Chicago, IL.
He was born on July 31, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Roland and Annie Florence Curry.
He is survived by three sisters, Annie (Charles) Wright of North Chicago, IL, Peggy Dobbins and Marion Curry, both of Waukegan; two nephews; six nieces and a host of great nephews, great nieces, cousins and dear friends.
His father, mother, two brothers, a son and a brother-in-law preceded him in death.

Charles E. Davis
Charles E. Davis, 78, of Sun City West, Arizona, formerly of Waukegan, passed away February 15, 2002 in Sun City West, AZ. He was born September 7, 1923 in Columbus, OH and was a member of Luke Air Force Base Catholic Community Church. He was also a member of Fleet Reserve Association, Men's Club of Sun City West, Honorary Member of Knights of Columbus and a Life Member of the V.F.W. Charles was retired.
He is survived by his wife Pauline.

Valeria Govekar
Valeria Govekar, 87, of Wadsworth, Illinois and formerly of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan.
She was born December 3, 1914 in Waukegan, IL and remained a life long resident of this area. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Wadsworth and a former member of Mother of God Church. She was a member of St. Mary's #79 K.S.K.J.
She is survived by four daughters, Rose Ann (Phillip) Bruchhauser of Goodyear, AZ, Helen (A. Daniel) Knapp of Orlando, FL, Connie (Donald) Shipley of Anna, IL and Christine (James) Stickler of Wadsworth, IL; two sisters, Mary Aidikonis and Phyllis Riley both of Waukegan; 13 grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton Govekar February 9, 1991; a granddaughter, Rebecca; two sisters, Helen Wachowiak and Sister Symphorose (Harriet) Wachowiak (Order of the Felician Sisters); and two brothers, Anton and John Wachowiak.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at St. Patrick Church in Wadsworth with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.

Amos I. Jones
Amos I. Jones, 74, of North Chicago, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Pinnacle Health Care Nursing Home. He was born in Quitman, Mississippi, on August 19, 1927. His parents were the late Mamie Roberts Jones and Ed Jones Sr.
His grade school years were spent at the Daniel Hand boarding school at Tougaloo College in Mississippi. When his mother passed away he moved to Lake Forest, Illinois, to live with his aunt, Lela Byrd. He graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1947. He earned his B.S. degree at the University of Illinois which he attended on a football scholarship and his Masters degree at Roosevelt University. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
He taught for one year at the old Commonwealth grade school. He was a teacher, administrator and coach at North Chicago High School for 37 years. He retired in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Cleo (Wilson) Jones; three sons, Michael, Ronald (Linda) and Steve (Shenia); one brother, Walter R. Jones (Marie); two sisters-in-law, Chris Jones and Edith Whitlock; grandchildren, Tiara, Tiana, Tashara, Steven, Quiyanna, Marnika, and Martin; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Darius, Otis, and Edward; two sisters, Myrtle and Massa Lee; and one son, Lawrence A. Jones.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Queen of Peace Church, 910 14th Street, North Chicago, Illinois, with Rev. James E. Merold, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be private.

Virginia "Frances" Jonescue (nee McKenzie
Virginia Jonescue, 72, of Waukegan died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan.
She was born on the family farm in Mohegan, West Virginia, and lived in Waukegan for the last 32 years. She retired in 1993 from Cherry Electric, after 20 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, John; four children: Thomas Johnson of Beach Park, Brenda Francis of Waukegan, Cheryl (Kory) Edwards of Bristol, WI and Carole LaPorte of Gurnee; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Grady and Ernest McKenzie; a sister, Margaret Saunders, all of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Sjoblad, and her five brothers.

Edward A. Kostylo
Edward A. Kostylo, 85, of Waukegan, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2002, at his home.
He was born on September 7, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois. Edward was a member of St. Dismas Church and the American Legion. He retired from Johnson Motors in 1979 and never missed attending their annual fishing derby. He especially enjoyed fishing at his brother's private pond, which he did up until three days before his death. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1945. Gardening and cooking were other hobbies he enjoyed. He shared his bread and other delicious treats with many friends and relatives.
Survived by his loving son, Donald (Joann) Kostylo of Waukegan; precious grandchildren, D. Scott (Maria) Kostylo of Honolulu, Hawaii, Cynthia (Michael) Stadlberger of Canyon Country, Calif., Kristine (Mark) Strack of Waukegan and Michael (Teresa) Kostylo of Denver, Colorado; 9 dear great grandchildren; caring brother, Rudolph Gluszek of LaGrange, IL and loving sister, Clara Timke of Alsip, IL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann in 1997, his parents, three brothers Charles, Raymond and Joseph and one sister, Mary.
Funeral Services will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St.

Eric J. Larson
Eric J. Larson, 43, of Chicago, IL passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He was born July 31, 1958 in Chicago, was a former resident of Des Plaines and the Northwest suburbs, and attended high school in Mt. Prospect.
Surviving is his sister, Karen Larson of Libertyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Janet Larson.
