Mary Robinson
Mary Robinson was born on Christmas Day, the fourth of five children into the marriage union of Louis Anthony Robinson and Ruth Etta (Jackson). Her sisters Annie (Cosey), Addie (Blockmon), and her brothers Anthony Andrew, and Louis Commodore preceded her in death.
On September 4, 1926, she gave birth to her only child, a son named Morris. Morris was raised by Mary's sister Addie. He died in 1990. Morris and his wife Alice blessed Mary with five grandchildren Betty, Allen, Kenneth, Paul and Sheila of Vallejo, CA. In 1935, Mary married
and later divorced David Sanders. There were no children born into that union.
Mary moved from Vicksburg, MS to Chicago, IL in 1942. Later she moved to Waukegan, IL where she worked (until she was in her nineties) and remained an active participant of the Lake County community.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of the Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church under Reverend McWharter. She served as Church Steward, Trustee and Faith Member. Mary was also on the Usher Board, a Class Leader, and Steward Emeritus.
Mary Evelyn Robinson departed from this life on August 2, 2003 at 9:10 a.m. in the quietness of the Winchester House Nursing Home, Libertyville, IL.
Left to celebrate Mary's life are nine nieces and nephews, Anthony Andrew Jr. (with whom she had a special bond and close relationship), Ruth Etta Hamilton, Rajib Shakir (Haneefah), Louis Commodore Jr. (Janice), Mattiel Jackson (Charles), James Arthur Robinson, Margaret White, Anthony Robinson (Mattie), David Robinson, her grandchildren, and more than one hundred great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Also included in her loving family are close personal friends Pearlie Williams, Lillian Brown, Dorothy Rhodes, Mary Bell, Phoebe McMillian, Ellen Procknow and their families. Pastor Reginald Blount and the Trinity AME Church Family, the Batey and the Procknow families of Lake Forest, her godchildren, (Valerie Carter and Fenton Sparks) and many other friends too numerous to name will forever be remembered for the love and support they gave to Mary.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the Trinity A.M.E. Church, 210 South Avenue, Waukegan, IL, Pastor Reginald Blount officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Zelma Ann Simons
Zelma Ann Simons, 56 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003 on arrival at Midwest Regional Hospital, Zion, IL. She was born December 17, 1946 in South Dakota, the daughter of the late Samuel and Virginia (Graves) Fulton, moving to Antioch in the early 1980's. Zelma had worked for Marshall Fields, The Venture Corp and the F&M; Corp in shipping and receiving departments, for several years. On September 17, 1965 she married
Chris Monroe Simons in Watertown, S.D. and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2002.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Jo (Adam) Brooks of Salem, WI, Venus and Jessica Simons of Salem, WI and one son Paul (Karin) Simons of Antioch, one brother Ralph Fulton, a sister Roberta Heim of Watertown, S.D. and four grandchildren, Scott, Brianna, Kelsey and Jacob.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Gary Fulton.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2003 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83). Marvin H. Dixon, Jr.
Marvin H. Dixon, Jr., 73, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away August 2, 2002 at his home.
He was born on February 24, 1929, in Waukegan, Illinois to Marvin (Matt) and Mildred Dixon, and was a lifelong Waukegan resident. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; WTHS Lunch Bunch Class of 1948; Anchor and Ark Lodge #1027; Waukegan Chapter #41, R.A.M.; Bethel Commander #42 K.T.; Tebala Shrine Temple; and Charter Member Tebala Motor Patrol. He was a former member of the American Bakers Association, Retail Bakers of America, Waukegan/North Chicago Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Waukegan Council, Swedish Glee Club, and was a trustee of the Waukegan Public Library.
He was owner of Community Bake Shop on Genesee Street in Waukegan until 1978. He was then employed at Lakeshore Distributors and later joined the staff at CBS Realtors until his retirement.
He is survived by his sister, Audrey (Ken) Kantola of Waukegan, three stepdaughters, Carrie Taylor of Waukegan, Heather (Jim) Dorsey of Round Lake Beach, and Melissa (Jim) King of Kenosha, Wisconsin; one stepson, Stephen Burkhart of Ventura, California, nine step grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, and one niece, Carrie Ann (Michael) Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, and his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2002, from the First United Methodist Church, 128 North Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, with Reverend Omar Logan and Reverend Dr. Gehl Devore, officiating. Burial will be at Millburn cemetery, Millburn, Illinois.

Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Hansen
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Hansen, (nee Peterson), age 84 of Pearl Lake, (rural Redgranite), and Waukegan, Illinois, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2002 at her Pearl Lake home. Ruth was born January 28, 1918 in Washburn, Wisconsin, near Lake Superior. She married
Elmer O. Hansen January 17, 1945 in Guadalcanal in the Pacific, while Ruth and Elmer both were serving in the military during World War II.
Ruth received her training as a nurse at Augustana Hospital in Chicago. She later received a degree in nursing from Bradley University at Lake Forest, Illinois. Ruth served her country as an Army nurse in the Pacific for 3 years during World War II. She later was a school nurse in the North Chicago School System for 22 years.
Ruth and Elmer lived in Waukegan, Illinois, and had their summer home at Pearl Lake, near Redgranite since 1955. The Hansens loved to travel as a family. They traveled through most of the United States.
Ruth was a life member of the Am-Vets Auxiliary in Waukegan and the Elk's Emblem Club of Waukegan. She was also a member of the local and state Retired Nurses' Association.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Elmer, a son, Richard (Susan) Hansen of Waukegan, and a daughter, Arleen Donnelly of Iowa City, Iowa, and 3 grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Marjorie (Frank) Holzer of Dixon, Illinois, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Anne L. Kanerva
Anne L. Kanerva, 86, of Waukegan, formerly of North Chicago passed away Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born December 25, 1915 in Kenosha, WI. She was a former member of North Chicago Women's Club.
Survived by two children, Judith White of Arlington Heights and Edwin (Ann) Kanerva of Severn, MD; five grandchildren, Maggie, Michael, Kristy, Scott, and Jenny; two great grandchildren, Mattie and Mitch; a niece, Alice; and three nephews, Russell, John and Tom.

Adam J. Kernan
Adam J. Kernan, age 23, of Grayslake, IL passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 1, 2002.
He was born in Waukegan, IL on February 19, 1979, the son of Kathryn (nee Clark) and James Kernan of Lake Villa. He resided in Lake Villa for 19 years, prior to moving to Grayslake recently. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa. He graduated from Lake Villa District 41 Elementary Schools and was a 1997 graduate from Grayslake High School. He completed auto body/mechanics curriculum at the Lake County Area Vocational Center in Grayslake. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, great generosity and his love of cars.
He is survived by his parents, Kathryn (nee Clark) and James Kernan of Lake Villa; his sisters, Sara Patricia Kernan and Robyn Mary Kernan, both of Lake Villa and his paternal grandmother, Mabel Kernan of Lake Villa. Also surviving are many loving relatives and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward H. Kernan; maternal grandparents, Robert C. and Beatrice Clark; uncle, Robert C. Clark; aunt, Karen Johnson; and baby cousin, Brenda Johnson.

Mary Ann Miller
Mary Ann Miller, 72 years old, of Antioch, IL passed away suddenly, Thursday, August 1, 2002 at St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, IL. She was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Chris and Harriet (Bernhardt) Poulsen, and has lived in the area all of her life. For several years she worked at the Warwick Company in Zion, IL, then at the former Evergreen Restaurant in Antioch, and before her retirement, at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL.
On December 20, 1947, she married
Lyman R. Miller in Millburn, IL, and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons: Gerald of Antioch, and Donald and his wife, Katherine, of Bristol, WI; two grandchildren: Quinten "Jake" and Alexander Miller; a sister, Barbara (Alfred) Schettino of Lindenhurst, IL; two brothers: William (Karen) Poulsen of Zion, IL and Robert (Judy) Poulsen of Grayslake, IL.

Sheryl Lynn Nelson
Sheryl Lynn Nelson, 34, of Wadsworth, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at her home after a hard fought battle with Breast Cancer. Sheryl was born November 19, 1967 and was a life long resident of Lake County.
Sheryl leaves behind her husband, Don and son Donny of Wadsworth, IL; parents Charles and Mildred Corder of Wadsworth, IL; brothers, Chuck Corder and Brian Corder, both of Grayslake, IL; and sister Diane Corder of Vernon Hills.

Loretta B. Turkowski
Loretta B. Turkowski, 79 of Trevor, WI passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002 at her home. She was born November 15, 1922 in Chicago the daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline (Samborski) Prush. She had spent her summers and weekends in Trevor for several years moving there permanently in 1983. Loretta was a member of Holy Name Church in Wilmot, WI, a member of the pin spotters Friday nite bowling league in Antioch, IL and a member of the Jolly Friends Club in Chicago. On June 3, 1944 she married
Edward Turkowski in Chicago and he preceded her in death on May 19, 1999.
Survivors are two daughters, Barbara (John) Cmiel of Antioch, IL and Karen Turkowski of Crystal Lake, IL, a daughter in law Debbie Turkowski of Arlington Heights., IL, 3 sisters Alexendra (Casimer) Jagielo of Trevor, WI, Anne Pezan of Flagstaff, AZ and Stephanie Magdecki of Des Plaines, IL, 3 grandchildren, Richard (Bonita) Cmiel, William (Dawn) Cmiel and Karen (Wayne) Trapp, 2 great grandchildren, Dalton and Mackenzie. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son William, a brother Alexander Prush and 2 sisters, Joan Beyna and Genevieve Prush.

Christina M. Anderson, age 18, of Round Lake Beach, IL passed away July 30, 2003 at the Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL. She was born July 1, 1985 in Lake Forest, IL and has been a life long resident of Round Lake Beach, and a 2003 graduate of Grayslake Community High School.

Carl K. Dasher
Carl K. Dasher, 71, of Gurnee, IL, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Kindred Hospital in Chicago. He was born September 1, 1931 in Libertyville, where he was a resident for most of his life.
Carl and his wife retired to Arizona in 1994 and he came back to live in Lake County in 1999. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War and was a past commander of the Vail AZ. American Legion Post #109. He was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Libertyville and a member of the Knollwood Sportsman's Club in Lake Bluff. Before his retirement, Carl was a truck driver for Peter Baker and Sons in Lake Bluff and was a member of Teamsters Local #301 in Waukegan.
Surviving are three daughters, Gloria (Martin) Ruffner and Cheryl Dasher, both of Gurnee and Carla (Tim) Govern of Waukegan; four grandchildren, Joshua and Peter Ruffner and James and Jack Govern; his brother Marcus (Joyce) Dasher of Libertyville and sisters, Betty (Nellow) Pagiai of Gurnee, Marilyn (George) Priebe of Lewisville, TX and Pat (Don) Dove of Rhinelander, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ruth Dasher, by his wife Sally Dasher on December 18, 1998 and by his sister Phyllis Ackley.

Louise Zorah Gronvold
Louise Zorah Gronvold, 84, of Round Lake Beach passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born January 15, 1919 in Viroqua, WI. The daughter of the late John I. Groves and Lelia Crume. Louise retired in 1985 from Wakem & McLaughlin Warehouse in Chicago where she was employed as a bookkeeper. A member of the Lake Region Bible Church in Round Lake for over 45 years.
She leaves her daughters Cecilia L. Tossi of Palatine and Mary Jean (John) Harrington-Perry of Palatine; sons David Bradley Hopper of E. Troy, WI, Richard Lee (Susan) Hopper of Lake Villa, Francis E. Lewandowski of Delaware, Charles V. (Joan) Lewandowski of Ringwood, George Gronvold, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ and John Gronvold of Cicero; her half-brother Gene L. Groves from New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George Gronvold in 1973 and her brothers, Charles I. Groves and Gale H. Groves.

Annette (Linder) Johnson
Annette (Linder) Johnson departed this life at the age of 64 on July 29, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, IL after a lengthy illness. Annette was born March 21, 1939, in Waukegan, IL. Annette was a graduate of North Chicago Community High School. As a long time resident of North Chicago, she was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age where she was baptized under Rev. Kilgore. Annette retired from Veterans Administration Medical Center in 1994, and worked at Abbott Laboratories in Abbott Park for 5 years, and after retirement began working at Bayside Terrace in Waukegan, IL. Her passions were fishing and bowling with friends and family.
Annette leaves behind three daughters Marcel Johnson of Chicago, IL, Marcella Johnson-McGowan of Racine, WI, Kathryn (Lamar) Whitsett of Philadelphia, Penn., and one son Clinton Johnson of Zion, IL; one goddaughter Jacqueline Kindle of North Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren Latisha, Shamar, Michael, Keyia, Lamar Jr., Tevin, and Kamari; four brothers, Otis Linder, Jake Linder Jr. and Maurice Linder, all of North Chicago, IL, and Patrick Linder of Oakland, CA; four sisters, Denise Arive, Jeanette (Leon) Davis, Mae (Willie) Fitzgerald, all of North Chicago, and Joyce (Ernest) Nelson of Zion; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews including special friends Robert Clinkscales, Helen Early and Evelyn Hampton.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother Maddie Willis, parents Jake and Lula Mae Linder, sister Blondina Linder, brother Rupert Linder, a nephew Brian Linder, uncle Charlie and aunt A.O. Dottress Linder and a sister in law Gwen Linder.

Angela G. Knutel (nee Koschak) was born October 19, 1912 in Willard, WI and Born to Eternal Life Wednesday, July 30, 2003. She was formerly of Waukegan where she was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of St. Anne's #27 K.S.K.J. Lodge.
Angela was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Michael Knutel. Loving mother of Ron (Kathy), Marge (Roger) Boland, Mimi (the late Richard) Piltz and Joyce (Peter) Ludovic. Dear grandmother of Laura (Fred) Wells, Mary Lynn (Rob) Villaflor; Andrea (Jason) Nixon and Amy (Ken) Fifer; Robert Piltz and Lou Anne (John) Burns; Julie (Gary) Gilkay; Stephanie and Adam Ludovic. Walter F. Sheets
Walter F. Sheets, 79, passed away July 30, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 6, 1924 in Glomawr, KY. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cumberland, KY.
He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army in Europe. He retired from Johnson Motors. Mr. Sheets was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, and the Gurnee American Legion.
Mr. Sheets is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Arla; son and devoted daughter-in-law Chris and Laura Sheets of Waukegan; one daughter Donna Stiltner of Kingsport, TN; three grandsons Shawn and Greg Sheets of Waukegan, IL and James Sheets of Pleasant Prairie, WI; two granddaughters Terri Stiltner and Tina Howe of Kingsport, TN; great granddaughters Corine Sheets, Kamryn Shockley and Madeline Sheets; great grandsons Gregory and Jimmy Sheets, Max Bower and Christian Shockley; two sisters Lena Dickenson of New Mexico and Grace Carpenter of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ella Sheets; three sisters Mary Gilmore, Dora Mills and Elsie Rice; three brothers John, Cecil and Ray Sheets; and one great grandchild Devin Stiltner.

Leon Sledge
Leon Sledge, age 83, of Waukegan, Illinois departed this life to be with the Lord Friday, July 25, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan, IL.
He was born May 16, 1920 to the union of Emanuel and Betty Sledge. He attended the Lincoln McAllister School in Waukegan. He was inducted into the U.S. Army August 21, 1942 and given an Honorable Discharge December 2, 1945. While in the Army Leon received 3 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Bars and the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon. Leon worked many years as an ironworker. After retirement, Leon went into business for himself as a plumber.
He is survived by one brother, Louis (Thelma) Sledge of Gary, Indiana; one sister, Martha Curtis of Merrillville, Indiana; one daughter, Deborah Sledge (Jerry) Harvey of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Iesha Sanchez, Lakenya Ray, Michael Edwards; a great granddaughter, Dajsha Sanchez all of Fulton, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a devoted niece, Marilyn Blye and nephew Leon Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Rd., Waukegan, IL. Rev. Robert B. Evans, Sr., Officiating, Assoc. Minister, First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, North Chicago, IL, Officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL.
