Debra Ann Sleddens (nee Zaker)
Debra Ann Sleddens (nee Zaker), 40, of Lake Delton, Wisconsin, formerly of North Chicago, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital from complications of a liver transplant. Debra was born October 14, 1961 in Waukegan and lived in North Chicago until moving to Wisconsin several years ago.
Survivors include her husband, John Scott Sleddens; two children, Alexandra and Vincent; step-son, Jordan Sleddens of Gurnee; her mother, Loretta Zaker of Waukegan; three sisters, Loretta (Chuck) Gesky and Bonnie (David) Brogan of Waukegan, Roberta (Stephen) McKay of Winthrop Harbor; sister-in-law, Julie (Andy) Meyer of Gays Mills, Wisconsin; aunts and uncles Bea Koncan of Gurnee, Sylvia Zaugra, Julia Koncan, Thomas (Lois) Koncan, all of Waukegan, Leo (Lorraine) Koncan of Beach Park; nieces and nephews, John Brogan, Phyllis Kozlowski, Meredith Brogan, Sara Gesky, CJ Gesky, Kyle, April and Jillian McKay; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Debra was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Zaker on September 23, 2001.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 2002 from 5-8PM at the Salata Funeral Home, Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 9PM at Holy Family Church, Belvidere and Keller, Waukegan, with Father Gary Graf officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial cemetery, Gurnee.

James E. Touhy
James E. Touhy, age 88, of Park City, passed away July 28, 2002 at St. Therese Hospital. He was born July 31, 1913 in Chicago, IL.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church. He was also a member of the CTA Retirees, retiring from CTA general office.
Survived by his wife, Susan; four children, James, Jr., (Barbara), John (Diane), Dennis (Jeanenne) and Michael (Cathy); two step-children, Violet Hehn and Christine (David) Schmidt; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean (Martin) Schmitz; many nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by a late wife, Viola; one daughter, Mary Patricia Bruno.

Dorothy Frank (nee Hodnik)
Dorothy Frank (nee Hodnik), 64, or Ingleside, IL and formerly of North Chicago died Friday, July 25, 2003 in the comfort of her home with her family at her side.. She was born October 21, 1938 in Waukegan and lived in North Chicago before moving to Ingleside in 1972.
She owned and operated with her husband Bill, Frank's Lounge in North Chicago, and also owned and operated Dorothy's Beauty Shop in North Chicago. Dorothy graduated from Mother of God and Holy Child H.S. She was also a member of North Chicago Tavern Owners Association, and the Waukegan Moose.
Dorothy is survived by her son William Frank and a daughter Wanda Frank both of Ingleside, IL. A granddaughter, Sarah Frank, will miss her dearly. Three brothers, Johnny Hodnik of Waukegan, Michael (Elly) Hodnik of Prescott Valley, AR, Edward (Judy) Hodnik of Mundelein, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1991 and a daughter, Linda, in 1960.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29 from 5-8 p.m. with services 12 noon Wednesday, July 30 at THE SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.

Josephine "Jo" P. Gerchar
Josephine "Jo" P. Gerchar, of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2003 at Lake Forest Hospital. She was born in Iron River, MI.
She was a member of Holy Family Church in Waukegan, IL.
She is survived by her husband, John J.; two sone, John of Waukegan, IL and Joseph of Key Largo, FL; one grandson, Jonathon and other loving relatives.
At Josephine's request there will not be any services.

Loretta A. Gravelie
Loretta A. Gravelie, 89, formerly of Round Lake, passed away at her home in Ft. Myers, FL. She was born in Chicago on July 11, 1918, the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (nee Kunz) Yacktor. Loretta was a resident of Round Lake for over 47 years and moved to Ft. Myers in 1998. She worked for Honeywell in Buffalo Grove until her retirement.
She is survived by her children, Judith (Milford) Fish of Wisconsin; Dennis Gravelie of Antioch; and Colleen (Donald) Franzese of Florida; her grandchildren, Kathleen Franzese of Florida and Barbara Richards of Wisconsin; four great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter; her brother, Chester (Lillian) Yacktor of Wheeling, and her sister Laverne Weber of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Gravelie (in 1992) and her brother Raymond Yacktor.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 N. Lincoln, Round Lake, IL. Interment is at Ascension Catholic cemetery in Libertyville. Kathleen Lovelace
Kathleen Lovelace, 76, of Waukegan passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003 at her home. She was born December 28, 1926 in Hillsboro, AL, the daughter of the late George and Effie Harden. Kathleen resided in Lake County for over 50 years. She worked for Abbott Lab, retiring after 21 years of service. Kathleen was a member of Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church of North Chicago.
Kathleen is survived by her husband Melvin Lovelace; two daughters, Robin (Carlton) Haney of Waukegan, Charris Lovelace of Waukegan; three grandchildren, Katrina and Carlton Haney, and Paris Lovelace; one sister Willie Mae Merritt of North Chicago; one brother Henry Harden of Muscle Shoals, AL, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Effie Harden; two sisters, Louise Harden and Shelvy Jean Bledsoe; two brothers, Rufus and Kenneth Harden.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 12 p.m. at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Dr., North Chicago, IL. Pastor Henry Woods Sr. officiating. John Lukas
John Lukas, 90 of Gurnee and formerly of Waukegan, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at his home with his family at his side.
John was born April 22, 1913 in Bentleyville, PA and came to this area at age 8. His greatest love was farming, gardening, but most of all fishing!
He attended Gurnee and Waukegan schools and was a graduate of Waukegan High School in 1933. married Dorothy E. Lystlund July 10, 1937 at Immaculate Conception Church, Waukegan. He also worked at North Chicago Hardware Foundry and Stone Container Corp. and retired in 1973. He is a member of Waukegan Moose Lodge 706.
John is survived by his son John P. Lukas of Wadsworth; two daughters, Dianne (Victor) Bartels of Wadsworth and Sharron (Clarence) Clausen of Woodworth, WI; a sister, Violet (Novak) Usa of Gurnee; a daughter-in-law, Marva Lukas of Round Lake; eight grandchildren; Sheila (Steven) Jones, Tina (Paul) Lowery, Dawn (John) Szweda, John Paul Lukas, Sheree (Timothy) Pfeuffer, Carolyn (John) Debell, Edward (Kimberly) Bartels, and Matthew Bartels, and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, January 3, 1990; his parents, Peter and Anna (Aliositis) Lukas; a sister, Anne Whiteley and two brothers, August Novak and Peter Lukas, Sr.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 29 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with 12:30 p.m. services at the SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL.
Interment will follow at Warren cemetery. Donations to your church or favorite charity in his name.

Troy McGill
Troy "Hoss" McGill, 37, of North Chicago died suddenly on Friday, July 25, 2003 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan.
Troy was born October 27, 1965 in Waukegan to Clarence and Judy McGill, grew up and attended schools in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and moved back to Illinois in 1981.
Survivors include his long time companion, Traci Hoff; four children Candi, C.J., Jamie and Jared McGill all at home; his father and mother Clarence and Judy McGill of Adams, WI; brothers and sisters Roy (Beverly) McGill of Louisville, KY, Wanda McGill of Maryville, TN, Ronnie (Bonnie) McGill of Maryville, TN, Jimmy (Angie) McGill of Louisville, KY, Sandra Block of Oak Ridge, TN, Peggy (Scott) Hargett of Adams, WI, Debra (Rev. Danny) Light of Clinton, TN, William (Darla) LaBarge of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Jerry McGill of Adams, WI, Larry (Vallerie) McGill of Beach Park, IL, Tammy (Tom) Marshalek of Ceresco, NE, Kim (Mark) Dalberg of Big Lake, MN and Vicki (Daniel) Parrot of Powell, TN; his maternal grandmother Francis Taschner of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Arthur Winters, by paternal grandparents Ed and Marie McGill and by two brothers Arthur and Edward McGill.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Rev. Danny Light, his brother-in-law, officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, from 1 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Ernie A. Plotz
Ernie A. Plotz, age 76, of Grayslake, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2003 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born November 19, 1926 in Grayslake, IL to the late Carl and Sophie (nee: DeGraff) Plotz.
He was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army from July 1945 - November 1946. On May 18, 1966, he was appointed Postmaster General of Grayslake by President L.B./ Johnson, and served with the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years until his retirement in 1986.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Viola (nee Behm) whom he married May 17, 1958 in the United Protestant Church in Grayslake. He is also survived by his daughters, Lisa (Peter) Androus of Lindenhurst, and Nancy (Joel) Reed of Grayslake; his four grandchildren, James, John, Indy and Chase; and his twin brother, Vernie Plotz of Grayslake.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Carl and Harold Plotz.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, LTD., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 with Pastor William G. Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Friends of the family are invited to visit at the funeral chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2003. Mary Lou Ruta
Mary Lou Ruta, 80, died peacefully at her home on Friday, July 25, 2003. She was born May 8, 1923 in Waukegan to William and Corrine Walker. She married Charles Ruta on February 14, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Church. They were lifetime residents of Waukegan.
She was preceded in death by her husband "Chuck", brothers James (Helen) Walker and William (Jo Ann) Walker Jr.
Mary Lou is survived by her sons Michael (Aline) Ruta of Racine, WI and Leo Ruta of Highwood, IL, eight grandchildren, Christine (Ryan) Holm, David (Nariman) Ruta, Michelle (Ben) Barry, Uriah Ruta, Matthew Ruta, Charles (Melissa) Ruta, Michael S. Ruta and Paul Ruta, four great grandchildren Kaelyn and Xander Holm, Idrees Ruta, and Ethan Barry.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St. Mass 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 508 Grand Ave., Waukegan, IL. Burial Ascension cemetery.

Earl G. Swanson
Earl G. Swanson, 83, of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on July 19, 2003. He was born March 26, 1920, in Waukegan, Illinois, the son of the late John and Hilma Swanson.
Earl served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Abbott Laboratories, retiring after 42 years of service.
He was a life member of the American Legion, Sharvin Post 397 of North Chicago, Illinois. Earl served as 10th District Commander of the American Legion during 1986 to 1987. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks of Fort Myers, and a Past President of the Lake County Safety Association. Earl was a member of the First Christian Church, Gurnee, Illinois.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jane A. Swanson; a daughter, Faye (Sammie) Carter; two grandsons, William (Angie) Carter and Dale (Cveta) Carter; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Isabelle Carter; and two sisters, Katherine Carlson and Mabel Anderson. Two brothers, Milburn and Raymond Swanson preceded Earl in death.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF GURNEE, 305 cemetery Rd., with the Reverend T. Carrell officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 27th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Louis Vaughn Sr.
Louis Vaughn Sr., 64, of San Diego, CA passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Sun Ridge Home. He was born to Annie Mae Johnson and Willis Vaughn on October 9, 1938 in Arcola, MS. He was employed at U.S. Steel Corp. for 26 years where he later retired. He graduated from Waukegan High School and later attended college at UCLA Medical School where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Denton.
He is survived by one son, Louis (Shelia) Vaughn Jr. of Corpus Christi, TX, three daughters, Antoinette (Ronald) Andrews of Gary, IN, Theresea (LaRunce) Moffett of San Diego, CA and Regina Vaughn of Gary, IN, two sisters Lillian (Kenneth) Hadley, Roberta (Milton) Prewitt, 19 grandchildren and 6 1/2 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, one daughter Linda Vaughn, one grandson Allen Henley, three brothers Bill, Ernest, and Johnny Vaughn, and his parents.
Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Jesus Name Apostolic Church, 208 Lake St. and Genesee St. Waukegan, IL. Pastor Benny L. Mabon officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Betsy Rose Wachter
Betsy Rose Wachter, 45. Beloved daughter of Ann nee Benson and the late Dr. Ronald Wachter. Loving sister of Wendy (Eddie) Reed and Leslie (Gary) Atkins. Cherished aunt of Jenna, Grey and Dani. Graduate of Lincoln College, Lincoln, IL. She was long time employee of the Waukegan Township Office.
Services Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at CHICAGO JEWISH FUNERALS CHAPEL, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd. (One block north of Lake Cook Road) Buffalo Grove. Interment Waldheim. James "Chico" Chamernik
James "Chico" Chamernik, 68, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24th, 2003, at Pebblebrook Nursing Home in Lake Bluff, IL.
Jim was born on January 13th, 1935 in Waukegan, IL. Jim lived in North Chicago/Waukegan all his life. He was a former member of Mother of God Church and former member of St. Joe's KSKJ Society. Jim graduated from Mother of God School in 1948 and from Waukegan Township High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Jim served as a Foss Park Commissioner in 1991, was a former member of the Waukegan Moose and a member of the Knights of Columbus Waukegan Council. Jim was employed at Johnson Motors, Skokie Valley Asphalt and the V.A. Medical Center where he retired in 1995.
Jim is survived by a loving sister, Mary Alice (Ed) Morrissey, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by nieces Lynn (Jim) Voinovich, Lori (Bruce) Brugioni, Karen (Brad) Totten, and a nephew Dan (Sandra) Morrissey. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews Ryan, Matthew, Madison, Casey, Payton, Dan Jr., and Marianna.
He also leaves behind a faithful friend and cousin Richard Chamernik and a devoted aunt, Albina Opeka.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother Frances (Opeka) Chamernick in 1952, his father John "Chummy" Chamernik in 1962, and a caring aunt and uncle Mary and Peter Jakubowicz.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 26 from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. with Mass at 9:00 a.m., at Queen of Peace Church, North Chicago. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville. Arrangements were entrusted to the SALATA GURNEE FUNERAL HOME.

Judy R. Cook
Judy R. Cook, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. Judy worked at Cherry Electric for over 5 years, was an aid to women, and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in North Chicago.
Judy is survived by her children Rorie (Fransisco) Torres and Jennifer Cook; her grandchildren Shannon Saldana, Christina Cook, Vianese Cook, Anthony Cook, and Louis "Boo Boo Bear" Dominguez. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Henry Cook, her brother Jimmy Samborski, and her son Johnny Cook.
A memorial service is scheduled for Monday July 28, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3030 15th Place, North Chicago, IL 60064.
