Joseph Neal Nerini, 36, of Round Lake Beach passed away suddenly August 3, 2003 at his home. Born November 23, 1966 in Highland Park he has been a resident of Round Lake Beach for ten years and was a former resident of Highland Park. He graduated from Deerfield High School class of 1984 and was a vested member of Operating Engineers Local #150.
Survivors include his wife, Anne (nee Hagen); two sons, Domenic and Ryan; parents, Domenic (Michele) Nerini of Elkhorn, WI and Britta Sjoberg of McHenry; six brothers and sisters, Kerry (Keith) Beyer of Genoa City, WI, Kristen Roeker of Grayslake, Domenic Nerini of Highland Park, Nicole Hammermeister of East Troy, WI, Michele (Phillip) Dempsey of Orland Park and Robert Nerini of Lake Villa; 11 nieces and nephews; grandmother, Bea Sjoberg of Round Lake; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Verna I. Sjoberg and Edwin Sjoberg and paternal grandparents, Floyd and Marie Nerini; his goddaughter, Emma Michele Beyer; and an aunt, Maria Coletta.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 4 until 9 PM with funeral services at 7:30 PM at THE SYMONDS-LAKES FUNERAL HOME, 111 West Belvidere Road, Grayslake. Private family interment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville.

Carol Jean T. Nerroth
Carol Jean T. Nerroth, 49, of Lindenhurst, IL passed away on Monday, August 4, 2003 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL surrounded by her family.
She was born in Waukegan, IL on October 2, 1953, the daughter of Arthur and the late Annamary Creaney. She was raised in the Wildwood area of Lake County and attended St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake. She was employed at Walgreen's corporate headquarters in Deerfield, IL. She was extremely proud of her family. She enjoyed the nurturing of her children to adulthood and was a devoted and loving wife of George. They were married in St. Gilbert Church on December 4, 1971.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, George; her children, Daniel, Michele and Kathryn, all of Lindenhurst; her sisters and brothers, Patricia (George) Bueltmann, K.C. (Kathleen) (Mick) Dieck, William (Lorraine), Michael, Arthur (Nancy), James, Rory (Glenna), and Robert.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annamary Creaney.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2003 from RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. (Rte. 83), (Two blks. south of Rte. 132) Lake Villa, IL 60046 to St. Gilbert Church, Grayslake, for a 10 a.m. funeral mass. Doris M. Oates
Doris M. Oates, 79 of Elgin, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Beloved wife of 55 years of Raymond; devoted mother of Judy Heil of Rolling Meadows and Patricia Mele of Sudbury, Massachusetts; dear grandmother of Lisa Willett, Chad Heil, Lindsay Heil, Emily Mele and Sarah Mele.
Born in Dundee, Doris had lived in the Elgin-Dundee area her entire life. She was a homemaker, had assembled watches at the Elgin Watch factory, and did clerical work at Illnois Tool Works. She also worked in the food industry at Gromer's Bakery and at Chicago Rawhide. Doris was a graduate of Dundee High School and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Emma (nee Wessel) Lindemann and her brother, Wilbur Lindemann.
Family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 11 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, located on Rt. 72 in West Dundee, Illinois. A memorial service will begin at 7:30. Interment will be private.

James Merritte Spires Jr.
James Merritte Spires Jr., 54, born May 25, 1949 in Waukegan, IL. died suddenly on July 29, 2003 in Orlando, Florida. He was commissioned an officer in the U.S.M.C. on May 23, 1971 upon his graduation from Marquette University and retired as Lt. Col. on June 1, 1999. He earned an MBA from the University of Illinois and was a graduate of the FBI Academy. Lt. Spires served on the Champaign Police Department for 24 years and retired to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in July 2000. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Marine Corps League, he organized SALT, the Senior and Law Enforcement Together Program in Champaign and was involved in a wide variety of other volunteer organizations.
preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Ann; brother, Wayne; and father, James Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia; wife, Linda Kay; and children, Sean (TN), Katie (Capt. Dan Whittmer, England), Alison and Meghan (FL).
A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Waukegan, IL, with a Visitation preceding at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Joliet, IL. August 12, 2003.

Mildred "Millie" Swentkofske
(nee Kerpan)
Mildred "Millie" Swentkofske (nee Kerpan), 77, of Waukegan and formerly of Milwaukee, WI, died August 5, 2003 at St. Therese Hospital, Waukegan. She was born November 4, 1925 in North Chicago.
Mildred is survived by one son, Steven Swentkofske of Minneapolis, MN, two brothers: Joseph (Virginia) Kerpan of San Jacinto, CA and John (Dolores) Kerpan of Round Lake Park, IL, five sisters, Mary Kerpan and Katherine Chumbley of Gurnee, Lillian (John) Nagode of Park City, Frances Magri of Pennsylvania and JoAnn Williams of Des Plaines, IL.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; Peter and Ben Kerpan.
Services and interment are private. Arrangements were entrusted to the SALATA/GURNEE FUNERAL HOME.

Shannon Grace Wallace
Shannon Grace Wallace was born August 5, 2003, at 6:23 a.m. at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL.
Her parents, grandparents and aunts were extremely blessed with the chance to hold her, baptize her and be a part of her hour-long life.
Shannon will be welcomed as an angel into the arms of her late maternal great grandfather, Theodore J. Stanulis, Jr., paternal great grandparents Robert Leo and Dorothy Wallace and Maxwell Gould.
She will forever be in the hearts and minds of her parents, Robert and Karen Wallace of Gurnee, IL, brothers Kyle and Blake, sister Caroline, grandparents Bob and Linda Wallace and Ted and Pat Stanulis of Gurnee, great grandparents Ollie Stanulis of Waukegan and Bernice Gould of North Attleboro, MA, and all of her aunts and uncles, cousins and friends across the country.
Funeral services will be private. Thank you to everybody who has Shannon and her family in their thoughts and prayers.

David R. "Blaster" Witten
David R. "Blaster" Witten, 40, of Lake Villa, formerly of Lake Forest, died suddenly August 6, 2003 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Born in Lake Forest May 4, 1963 and graduate of Lake Forest High School. He worked as an ironworker and was a member of Ironworkers Union #1. He was an avid player and champion of Disc Golf for which he won numerous awards. He played under the name of "Blaster".
Father of Jacob. Son of Joy Wiegold (Jack) Appleton of Naples, FL and the late David J. Witten. Brother of Donna Witten (Chad) Paddock of Naples, FL and Tammy Anderson of Lake Bluff. Uncle of Sean and Paige Paddock, Kelly Courtney and Brianne Anderson. Grandson of the late Ferd and Mildred Wiegold and Marvin and Jenny Witten. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and by his special friend, Diana.
Interment private. Please omit flowers. Memorial visitation from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 9 followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. in the chapel of WENBAN FUNERAL HOME, 320 E. Vine Ave., Lake Forest. (847) 234-0022.

Donald A. Zdanowicz
Donald A. Zdanowicz, 44, of Ingleside, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Tueday, August 5, 2003. He was born December 21, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Chester A. and the late Deloris R. (nee Domke) Zdanowicz.
Donald grew up in Libertyville and graduated from Libertyville High School in 1978. He received his degree of Bachelor of Science from Western Illinois University in May of 1982. Donald was an employee of Paslode as a fork lift operator.
He leaves his loving wife, LeAnn (nee Freyermuth) Zdanowicz, whom he wed on October 14, 2000; his father, Chester and his step-mother, Mary Jo Zdanowicz of Libertyville; his sister, Karen Zdanowicz of Park City; his brother, Gary (Jan) Zdanowicz of Lehigh Acres of FL; his nephew, Henry; his sister-in-law, Bonita Zdanowicz; and his niece, Talia of South Africa.
Donald was preceded in death by his mother and his brother, Gerald Zdanowicz on July 4, 2002,
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL. 60030. Friends of the family may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral chapel.

Jennifer Lee Bertram
Jennifer Lee Bertram, 44, of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2004 in Waukegan. Jenny was born on February 23, 1960, in Waukegan to James and Katherine Garross. She graduated from Our Lady of Humility grade school in Beach Park, IL, and Waukegan High School. Jennifer was a kind and gentle person who was loved by all who knew her. She was employed as a waitress in local restaurants and was well-liked by her customers.
Survivors include her mother, Katherine Garross; two daughters, Christina and Theresa; a son, Joshua Kras; a sister, Marianne (Lenny) Greendyk; three brothers, Ray (Joanne) Garross, Roger (Barbara) Garross and Rob Garross; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rick Bertram and father, James Garross.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 6, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park, IL, with Fr. Jan Krutewicz officiating. Gregory David Colbert, Sr.
Gregory David Colbert, Sr. was born to Swing and Ella Colbert on May 18, 1951 in Waukegan, IL.
Gregory confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. Roosevelt Tart. He was raised in Zion, IL and attended Zion Benton High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Marines in 1969. He served in Vietnam two years defending his country and received an honorable discharge.
Upon his honorable discharge from the service he worked at Great Lakes Naval Station. He was very active in sports and loved to work with computers.
Later in Gregory's life he established a relationship with Christ under the leadership of the late Elder Nicodemus Givens, Happy Day, COGIC.
He leaves to cherish his memory; four sons, Everett, Nicholas (Tenae), Gregory and Sohail; four daughters, Lisa (Jamie), Vaughn of Norfolk, VA, India, Frances (Robert) Bradshaw and Sophia; five grandsons, Eric, Jalynn, Jalyll, Kyle and Jordan; four granddaughters, Nadia, Mariah, Lovely and Kamory; sister, Deborah (Larry) Carroll; brother, Brian (Yolanda) Colbert of Waukegan, IL; aunts, Betty Colbert of Oakland, CA and Frederika Meeks of Waukegan, IL; special friends, Eugene Graves, Dennis Burns, Tyronne Harper, Charles Pryor and Eddie Campbell; and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Swing and Ella Colbert; ex-wife, Claudia Colbert; son, Gregory Jr. (Gumpy) Colbert and niece, Tra Nia D. Gordon.

Richard "Dick" Fries
Richard "Dick" Fries of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away August 3 after a brief illness.
Dick was born on December 10, 1924 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the son of the late Al and Mabel Fries.
Dick served in the Pacific during WWII as a radioman on an LCI. Dick retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service as a postal clerk. Dick was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan. Dick enjoyed his retirement and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren., He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dick is survived by his wife, Marge, of 54 years; sons, Steve (Mary Jo) of Lindenhurst, Tim of Waukegan; and his grandchildren, Brian, Becky, and Beth Fries. Dick is also survived by one sister, HelenMary Cornell of Washington Island, Wisconsin; one brother, Ted, of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Bill (Anita) Struna; sister-in-law, Inez Struna; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dick is preceded in death by two sons, Jim and Tom; two brothers, Andy and Jack; and brothers-in-law, Al and John Struna and Ervin Cornell.

Gerald G. Sanderson
Gerald G. Sanderson, 75, of Gurnee, IL passed away August 4, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was born September 14, 1928 in Nashville, TN.
Member of The Lions Club, The Waukegan Masonic Lodge #78, York Rite and Scottish Rite Masons and the Medinah Shrine.
Retired from Chicago Convention Tourism Bureau.
Survived by his wife, Carlene and his children and their spouses, Pamela and Robert Whitt, Betsey and Jeffrey Miller and Jackson and Dorie Sanderson; and their grandchildren, Michael, Raleigh, Ethan, Margaret, Emily and Jackson.
Services will be held at MARSH FUNERAL HOME 1521 Washington St. (847)336-0127 Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Visitation will be Friday, August 6, 2004 from 4:00:-7:00 p.m. followed by Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2004 from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Dr. Mark R. Souza
Dr. Mark R. Souza, M.D., 51, of Steilacoom, WA, passed away suddenly at his home on June 1, 2004. He was born in Waukegan, IL son of the late William and Alice Souza. He was loved and will be missed by many friends made in his life's journeys.
Formerly of Gurnee, IL and Des Moines, IA. Mark was an avid outdoorsman and a member of The Mountaineers. He enjoyed music and played in various bands and "jam" sessions with friends. He enjoyed photography and cooking, often baking treats for the office staff at the hospital. Active in Scouting as a youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Mark, a graduate of Rush Medical School, specialized in Psychiatric Medicine. He took great pleasure in assisting veterans at the V.A. hospital in Tomah, WI and Steilacoom, WA. He was a member of the A.M.A. and the A.P.A.
Mark is survived by loving brothers Bill (Connie), Bob (Ann) and sister Patricia Jolly; nieces and nephews: Jaime, Wade, Joe, Jay, Christin and Alicia. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and parents, William and Alice Souza.
Visitation will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Gurnee, IL at 10am on August 7, 2004, followed by a memorial service at 11am. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made in Mark's name to the National Mental Health Association.

Calvin Spencer
Calvin "POPA" Spencer, 43, of Waukegan, IL, departed this earthly life on Friday, July 30, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, IL after a lengthy illness. He was born in Waukegan, IL on September 23, 1960. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He attended North Chicago public schools and graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 1978. He earned certificates in auto body repair and detailing while in California and Illinois. He loved weigh lifting, physical fitness, and nutritional education.
Calvin is survived by his mother, Louise Spencer of North Chicago, IL; a daughter, Ellysia Roy of Louisiana; ten brothers, James (Nettie) Spencer, Carl Spencer, and Fredrick Spencer of North Chicago, IL, Jesse Spencer of Jackson, MS, Curtis (Sherry) Spencer of Brookhaven, MS, Reginald Spencer of Dunwoody, GA, Robert (Debra) Easley of Jackson, TN, Sam (Patricia) Wesley of Kenosha, WI, and Raymond Barnes and Greg McDonald of Waukegan, IL; four sisters, Burnestein (Larrie) Pitts, Regina Spencer, and Katherine Spencer of North Chicago, IL, and Christine (Calvin) Bryant of Zion, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Tommy Lee and Gladys Mason; sister, Carolyn Brown; and his niece, Shalandra Spencer.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 6, 2004 at the Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, 2401 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, IL, Rev. Gerald Wilcoxon, Pastor with Minister Todd Fletcher officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. at the church.
