Lillian Wasniewski
Lillian Wasniewski (nee Gilewski), 87, of Waukegan, formerly of North Chicago, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at her home.
She was born, April 7, 1914 in North Chicago, IL., and lived in the Waukegan/North Chicago area all of her life and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Chicago.
During Viet Nam, she worked as a Grey Lady for the American Red Cross, and for the last 20 years, volunteered at the Winchester House in Libertyville.
Lillian is survived by two sons: Robert and Thomas Wasniewski and a daughter Marsha (Charles) Blitzer, two grandchildren, Mark and Eric, and a sister, Irene Falco. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex on August 25, 1992.
Private Services were held Wednesday, April 18, 2001, with interment at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville.
Arrangements were entrusted to the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME.
Frank Leroy Weninger
Frank Leroy Weninger, 93 years old, died in his home on Loon Lake in Antioch on April 17, 2001.
Frank was born on November 6, 1907 in Chicago, IL. He was an inventor, designer and engineer for Bell and Howell for over 32 years and his electrical and mechanical genius was responsible for many of Bell and Howell's patents. The Former President of Bell and Howell, former Senator Percy dubbed Mr. Wninger "the Thomas Edison of Bell and Howell". Senator Percy returned from Washington to personally present Mr. Weninger the Pioneer of the Year Award at the Bell and Howell Dinner in 1965. He was also a pioneer in early research and development of Video recording, TV and Movie Cameras. Frank was a devoted naturalist and scientist and a member of the National Geographic Society and the AARP
Mourning his passing are his wife of 26 years, Carol Jean, sons, Frank, Alan (Joanne) and Jerry (Barbara) Weninger and his daughter Janet (James) Buffurine, 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, a sister Fern (Richard) Thompson, several nieces and nephews and many many fond friends. Also his four "Canine Children", Sadie, Ginger, Daphne and Keysa, whom he called "His Girls".
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Franz and Anna Christina (Peterson) Weninger, his first wife Lucille, brothers, Edward and Ralph and his sister Genevieve.
A public visitation will be held at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St on Friday, April 20, 2001 from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Services and Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Condell Medical Center Hospice Program, 111 West Church Street, Libertyville, IL 60048 in his memory.
Robert E. Connor, B.G. USA (Ret.)
Robert E. Connor, B.G. USA (Ret.), 85, of Libertyville, IL passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Wealshire in Lincolnshire. He was born October 20, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was a 1935 graduate of Roger Bacon High School and a 1939 graduate of the University of Cincinnati.
He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army upon graduation and continued his service to his country with what would become a 33 year Military Career. He commanded the Third Battalion, Second U.S. Infantry in Europe during World War II and in 1967 received his commission as a Brigadier General. He then served as Assistant Division Commander for the Fourth Infantry Division in Vietnam.
He was a Past Commander of the Lake Bluff American Legion Post #510, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Royal Hibernia Society and St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Emmy Lou Connor; four children, Elizabeth (David) Dabney of Libertyville, John P. (Jill) Connor of Houston, TX, Robert (Joye) Connor Jr of Lake Zurich and Ann (Stephen) McKnight of Appleton, WI; and eight grandchildren, Peter, Patrick, Casey Marie, Charles, Andrew, John Connor and Ian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Ella Connor; by his son, Peter M. Connor, who died in Vietnam in 1969; and his brothers, John and Mark C. Connor.
Prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Tuesday, April 22 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville and Services will continue to St. Joseph Church for Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Ascension cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Monday.

Peggy Lorene Fowler (nee Sanders)
Peggy Lorene Fowler (nee Sanders), 70, of Waukegan, IL departed this life on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the St. Therese Medical Center, Waukegan, IL.
She was born in Marion, AL on November 8, 1932 to the union of Clayton and Princess Sanders.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to John G. Fowler on July 31, 1955. To this beautiful union, one child was born, Adrienne Lois Fowler. Peggy attended Lincoln High School. She became a beautician after finishing the Beauty Cultur Course in Birmingham, AL. She moved to Waukegan where she worked at Abbott Laboratories before going into an early retirement. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, John G. Fowler; a sister, Ruby Sanders; two grandchildren, Anthony L. Moore and Amber L. Moore all of Waukegan; two nieces, Renee (Mark) Kenny of Gurnee, IL and Ruth McClendon of Waukegan; eight nephews, Sam (Arlene) Hasty of Lake Forest, IL, Robert (Arnita) Hasty of Maplewood, NJ, Larry Hasty of Milwaukee, WI, Michael Hasty, Kenneth Hasty both of Waukegan, Rev. Gregory (Karla) Hasty of Gurnee, IL, Barney Fowler of Phoenix, AZ, Jimmy McClendon of Colorado Springs, CO; two brothers-in-law, Sam Hasty Sr. of Waukegan and Aaron (Warren Fowler of Las Vegas, NV; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Princess Sanders; a daughter, Adrienne Lois Fowler Moore; four sisters, Inez Moton, Dorothy Massey, Louise Hasty and Lois Tubbs.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee St., Waukegan, IL with Pastor Walstone Francis officiating. Thelma K. Gregg
Thelma K. Gregg, 80, of Lindenhurst, IL passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, IL. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 16, 1922, the daughter of the late Daisy (nee Brindle) and Jesse J. Todd. She was a resident of the Lake Villa area since 1957, moving from Waukegan. She was a member of the Lakeland Baptist Church since 1958. She was a member of the Lake Villa Post 4308, Ladies Auxiliary and was retired from Abbott after 17 years of service.
She is survived by her children, Keith of Lake Villa and Paul J. (Sandra) of Streamwood, IL; her brother, Raymond T. Brasel of Aurora, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton; and her brothers, Walter Lloyd Brasel and Richard C. Todd.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rte. 83 (two blocks south of Rte. 132), Lake Villa, IL with Rev. Roger Blanchard officiating. Horacio N. Lopez Sr.
Horacio N. Lopez Sr., 76, of Waukegan, passed away April 17, 2003 at home. He was born June 13, 1926 in Moroleon, GTO, Mexico and was a member of Holy Family Parish in Waukegan. Horacio owned and operated the family business, Casa Bonita Restaurant.
He is survived by five children, Elia Lopez Schabes (Charles Schabes), Horacio Lopez Jr. (Maria Lopez Rodriguaz), Rosalba Lopez de Vaughan (Leslie Vaughan), Sandra Lopez-Richter (Gregory), Cuauhtemoc Lopez; grandchildren Alexandra Richter, Brigid Schabes, Horacio Lopez III, Paul Richter, Luis Antonio Lopez, Ariana Richter; and siblings Ana Garcia, Alicia Garcia and Jesus Garcia.
His loving wife Isabel Lopez Garcia precedes him in death.
Funeral services are pending 10 AM Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Holy Family Parish, 450 Keller Ave. with Father Gary Graf officiating. Interment will be in Ascension cemetery. Patsy-Jo Miller
Patsy-Jo Miller, 61, of Lake Villa, Illinois passed away on Friday, April 18, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Chicago, IL on June 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Pat and Joseph Halek. She was a resident of Lake Villa for almost 50 years. On May 12, 1961, she married
Clifford Miller.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford; her son, Joseph (Linda) Miller of Wisconsin; and her grandchildren, Emily and Vincent.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Roger Halek.

Michael Peck
Michael Peck, 92, of Leesburg, FL, passed away April 1, 2003 at Avante Nursing Home in Leesburg, FL.
Mr. Peck was born in Armenia on March 30, 1911 and came to Waukegan with his mother and half sister in 1921. He managed the cafeteria at the Griess-Pfleger Tannery in Waukegan. He also sold specialty advertising for Newton Manufacturing Company for many years until 1995. He was a top salesman. He was a veteran of World War II and a P.O.W. When he lived in Waukegan he was active in Kiwanis, City Club, Lions, and Shriners. He moved to Florida approximately 30 years ago.
Survivors include his wife Ann Peck; his daughter Michelle (Ed) Blachaniec; his grandchildren Laura Decker in Burlington, WI, Gregg Bosnak in San Francisco, Chuck Taffe in Chicago, Ted Taffe in Chicago and Kathleen Cummings in Long Island, New York; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra (Peck) Taffe in 1990; his mother U. Pekmazian in 1962; and his nephews Jack and Koko Torogian.
A memorial service was held at Florida Veteran's Memorial cemetery.
Curtis "Bruce" Smith
Curtis "Bruce" Smith, 73, of Wildwood, Illinois passed away suddenly Friday, April 18, 2003 at Vista St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, IL.
He was born May 30, 1928 in Clinton, IL and lived in this area for the last 33 years. He was a teacher and Basketball Coach at the College of Lake County, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Gurnee, IL. He was also active in assisting with the Lindenhurst Police Basketball League.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen; six children, Nancy (Bill) Mikels of Fox Lake, IL, Curtis (Marla) Smith of Mitchell, South Dakota, Roger (Heidi) Smith of Parker, Idaho, Kent (Janeal) Smith of Lehi, Utah, Linda (Rob) Ogle of Hebron, IL and Billy Smith of Wildwood, IL; and a brother, Maurice Smith of Jenks, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lydia Smith; and two brothers, Paul and Irwin.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, April 21, 2003 at the Salata-Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 411 N. O'Plaine Rd, Gurnee IL (Time Pending). Burial will be at Willow Lawn cemetery.
Richard A. Staffeldt
Richard A. Staffeldt, 77, of Lake Villa, IL passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, IL. He was born May 7, 1925 in Chicago, the son of the late Fred and Anna (Hoffert) Staffeldt and had lived in Lake Villa for the past 40 years. Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was a life member and past Commander of the VFW Post #4308 in Lake Villa. He was also a member of Prince of Peace Church, the Friday Afternoon Mixed Bowling League at the Lakes Bowl and enjoyed calling Bingo at the VFW and golfing. Before his retirement in 1989, he worked for Butternut Bread where his delivery area was Lake County. On May 20, 1950, he married
Lynette S. Stibbs in Chicago and she preceded him in death on December 23, 2002 after 52 years of marriage.
Survivors include his son, Keith (Kate) Staffeldt of Westmont, IL; his granddaughter, Jamie L. Benny; and two brothers, James and Donald Staffeldt both of Genoa, IL.
Funeral Services with Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Prince of Peace Church, Lake Villa, IL. Interment will be in Avon Centre cemetery, Lake Villa, IL.

Hope Buckner Hinde
Hope Buckner Hinde, 86, a resident of Lake Forest and formerly of Highland Park, IL. She was actively involved in the Cult Awareness Network (C.A.N.).
She was the wife of the late J. Nelson Hinde (1981), mother of John Nelson (Linda) Hinde of Lake Bluff, Marna (Richard) Coleman of Highland Park, Kate (Neal) Shapiro of Wilmette and Faith Freas of Idaho along with eight grandchildren.

Muriel Ellen Knorr, age 90, of San Antonio, TX and formerly of Waukegan, IL died Monday, April 16, 2001 in San Antonio.
She was born in Dawson, MN, September 20, 1910. She was a former member of Gurnee Community Church.
She is survived by three children, James (Linda) Knorr of Greenville, SC, Jon (Janet) Knorr of St. Petersburg, FL and Deborah (Charles) Merrill of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Jon Allen, Randy, and Brian Knorr; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:30 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at the Salata Gurnee Funeral Home 4190 Old Grand Ave. Gurnee, IL where services will be conducted at 2 PM with the Rev. William L. Genda officiating. Burial will follow at Warren cemetery.

Virginia "Gina" LaMar, 80, of Winthrop Harbor died on Monday, April 16, 2001 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home, Zion.
She was born February 11, 1921 in Harvey, IL and moved to Winthrop Harbor in 1940 from Waukegan. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Humility Church of Beach Park. She had been employed by V.R. Wesson of North Chicago and later she worked at both S.E.D.O.L. in Gurnee and at the Zion McDonald's as a hostess. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose and the Women's Republican Committee.
Survivors include her children Patricia (Marion) Holcomb-Heiny of Winthrop Harbor and Daniel (Susan) Holcomb of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren Christina (Riyad) Dodin, Michael (Linae) Heiny, Matthew (Jennifer) Heiny and Mark (Kristin) Heiny; five great-grandchildren Joshua, Emily, Sarah, Trentin and Matthew Jr.; a sister, Mary Mannebach of Winthrop Harbor; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Richard Holcomb, by her second husband Joseph LaMar, by her parents William and Sophia Rutkowski, and by her brothers and sisters Edmund, Stephen, Walter and Leo Rutkowski, Helen Bargiel, Gertrude Watson and William Rutko.
Mass of Christina Burial will be Thursday, April 19, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park with Rev. David Mulvihill officiating. Sonia Matthews, 66 of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, passed away April 15, 2001 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois.
She was born on January 24, 1935 in England and was a member of Joy Lutheran Church in Gurnee. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Bonnie (Ray) Stuehmer, Dawn (Tim) Sargent and Colleen (Brian) Delcorio; 7 grandchildren: Evan (4 1/2); Audrey (2 1/2); Katie (14 mo.); Jason (4); Lauren (4); Derek (2 1/2) and Brenden (8 mo).
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at Joy Lutheran Church in Gurnee, with Pastor Jeff Marian officiating. Interment will follow at White Chapel cemetery in Troy, Michigan on Thursday, April 19, 2001. Friends may call from 3-4 Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at Joy Lutheran Church only. Elizabeth Rhodes (Betty Meyers) (nee Faul), age 68, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away April 12, 2001 at Victory Memorial Hospital. She was born February 3, 1933 in Waukegan, IL. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include Sandra Rude of Homewood, IL., Debora (Tom) Bergfield of Suffolk, VA., Karen (Wes) Walborn of Arvada, CO., 4 grandchildren and a sister Ruth (Wally) Humphries of Dallas, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband Dusty Rhodes and her parents Ralph and Ileen Faul.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 21, 2001 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan, IL., with Father James Merold officiating. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in her name.
