Cecelia Hannula
Cecelia Hannula, 86, of Round Lake Beach, passed away Thursday April 3, 2003 at Winchester House. She was born November 4, 1916 in Stephenson, Michigan and was a member of Calvary Temple in Lake Villa, IL.
Survivors include her two children Warren Hannula of Gages Lake and Wayne (Pamela) Hannula of Morton Grove; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Ann and Joyce; and many nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband William and a son, Bill.

Ray Alice "Pip" Lezine
On March 31, 2003, Ray Alice "Pip" Lezine departed this life peacefully from her home surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Kaplan, Louisiana on December 18, 1929, she was raised in Lake Charles, LA. She married Mendon John Lezine on April 24, 1946 and moved to Illinois in 1963. Ray will be remembered by those who love her for her incredible will to live life to its fullest.
Left to cherish her memory are: Sisters, Helen Marie Walker of Tuscan, AZ, Earline Patterson (James), North Chicago, IL, Mary Ellen Demus (Gerald), Houston, TX and Marie Kindred (Charles), Houston, TX; Sister in law Inez Donato, Lake Charles, LA; Children: Mendon John Lezine Jr. (Dorothy), Mary Elise Lezine-Wilson, Deborah Lezine (Emanuel), Cynthia Barker Wells (John), Phyllis Foster Cunningham (Michael) and Johnnie Lezine (Annquenette), 31 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a host of others who call her Mommie, Maw Maw, Mi Mi, or simply "that pretty little lady". Ray was preceded in death by her beloved parents Honore Hebert "Popee" and ORetha "Dear Ruth" Boudreaux Hebert, loving husband Mendon John Lezine, much loved son Bernard Lezine, and cherished brother Joseph "Jody" Hebert.
Services will be held on Friday, April 4th at New Beginnings Baptist Church, 403 Oak Street, Waukegan, IL. Wake begins at 10:00. Service at 11:00 a.m. In Louisiana, services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2003 at Combre Funeral Services, 1200 Mill Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601. Fred R. Ligman
Fred R. Ligman, 48, of Waukegan, died on March 26, 2003 at his home.
Fred was born in Chicago on September 15, 1954 to the late Chester F. Ligman and Laura (nee Kooy) Ligman. He was a graduate of Lake Zurich High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois. Fred was an employee of Commonwealth Edison at the time of his passing. He was a quiet individual who loved his work and enjoyed nature and capturing it on film in his free time.
Survivors include one brother, Craig A. Ligman of Cape Canaveral, Florida, a brother-in-law, C.R. Walton of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and two nephews, C. Robert Walton of Middletown, Delaware, and US Army Captain David C. Walton of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janet Elaine Walton.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion (847) 746-1234.

William L. "Billy" Merritt
William L. "Billy" Merritt, age 48, of Waukegan, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003 after a lengthy illness at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was born August 22, 1954 in Waukegan and remained a lifelong resident. He confessed to Christ at an early age. He attended Waukegan High School, he graduated from North Chicago High School, and had attended college at Masa Jr. College for two years in Arizona. He retired from the V.A. Medical Hospital in North Chicago.
He leaves to cherish his memories his mother Eddie Mae Smith of Waukegan, IL; his father Samuel Merritt of North Chicago and a daughter Bianca Merritt of Waukegan, IL; three sisters, Marita (Gregory) Cannon of DeKalb, IL, Pamela Springs of North Carolina, and Linda Jones of Waukegan, IL; five brothers, Miles Merritt of Tennessee, Edward Smith of Waukegan, IL, Kenneth (Anna) Smith of Georgia, Keith (Roxanne) Smith of California, and Robert Jones of Waukegan,IL; one half sister, Karen Merritt of North Chicago, IL; and two half brothers Eric Merritt of California and Fritz Merritt of North Chicago, IL. He also leaves to cherish his memories seven nephews and six nieces and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Georgia Jones.
Celebration of his life will be held April 5, 2003 at Waukegan Baptist Bible Church, 1500 Sunset Ave., Waukegan, IL. Visitation will take place on Saturday at Waukegan Baptist Bible Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and the celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Officiating by Reverend Gregory Hasty. Rev. Harold I. Nelson
Rev. Harold I. Nelson, 92, of Edina, MN passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003. He was born on a farm near Lake Preston, South Dakota to Andrew and Anna Nelson. After eighth grade he worked as a farm hand in the upper Midwest until age 25. He attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD, Augsburg College in Minneapolis, and Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He met the love of his life, Helen Fevold, at Augustana Academy, and they married in 1942. He served Trinity, Lesje, Turtle Mountain and Bethesda Lutheran Churches in Souris, ND from 1945 to 1950. He served Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa, IL from 1950 to 1961. He served as mission developer for St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst, IL from 1961 to 1973 and also served as mission developer for Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, IL from 1973 to 1979. Post retirement work included visitation ministry in Oak Lake, IL, work as Good Will Ambassador at Pleasant View Lutheran Home in Ottawa, IL, and interim ministry at Norway Lake Lutheran Church, Sunburg, MN. Full retirement at age85 found him at their Norway Lake home near Sunburg during the summer. A final move came in 2000, when they moved to Edina, where he died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. A faithful and gracious Pastor of the church, he was a kind, generous, engaging and energetic person who was not a stranger to anyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna; brothers, Leonard, Earl, Richard and Herb; sisters, Alvilda Skurdal and Margaret.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; sons, Rev. Paul (Sandy) Nelson and Mark (Gayle) Nelson; daughters, Solveig Nilsen and Sonja (John) Nelson-Gurda; 11 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral Service Sunday, 2:30 PM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 48th ST and France Ave, S., Minneapolis. Interment Lakewood cemetery, Minneapolis.

Eileen Ori
Eileen Ori, of Hollywood, Florida passed away Friday, March 28, 2003.
She was born August 31, 1935 in Chicago, IL.
Survived by her husband, Romano Ori; five children, Mona (Cy) Werda, Helen Ori, Carol Ori, Frank (Sheri) Ori and Theresa (Mike) Clendening; nine grandchildren, Cyranda, Tatum, Chadd, Melisa, Alicia, Ryan, Kelly, Bianca and Olivia.
preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene Lampert.

Robert J. Steffens
Robert J. Steffens, 81, of Celebration, FL passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003 in Florida from complications of Emphysema. He was the son of the late Herman and Laura Steffens and was born in Claremore, Oklahoma where he was raised and attended high school. He graduated from the University of Illinois where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy and in 1947 was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation in Waukegan. When he retired 37 years later in Pittsburgh, he was the Managing Director of Manufactured Wire Products.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor (Stratton) Steffens; a son, David of Pittsburgh, PA; a daughter, Laura (Raymond) Murray of Virginia Beach, VA; and their two sons, Raymond John and Robert.
He was preceded in death by a son, John in 1979.
Services will be held at The Holy Redeemer Church in Kissimmee, FL. Interment will bein East Fox Lake cemetery, Lake Villa, IL. Local arrangements by STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH. Info: 847-395-4000.

Col. Phillip L. Vetrone, USA (Ret)
Colonel Phillip L. Vetrone, USA (Ret), 86, of Vernon Hills, formerly of North Chicago, died April 1, 2003 at Lake Forest Hospital.
Phil was born in New Haven, CT on August 27, 1916, the son of Luigi and Ida (Scarici) Vetrone. He graduated from the University of Maryland, entered the U.S. Army, was commissioned a 2nd LT and spent 33 months of World War II in the South Pacific area with the 43rd Infantry Division. Following the War, he served three years in the U. S. Army Recruiting Service in the Chicago land area. In 1945, he opened the Waukegan Recruiting Station, and then attended the Army Language School in California. From there he was assigned with the CIA until 1952 as an instructor and field operator. In July 1952, he was a Charter Member of the Special Forces as an instructor. Phil was selected in early 1953 to take a group of Green Berets to Korea, where he organized a guerilla regiment of over 1,000 Koreans. The U.S. Army team of 16 Green Berets all returned safely. The year of 1954 saw Phil attending the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Upon graduation, he was placed in command of the Special Forces School at Fort Bragg, NC.
In 1957, Phil was selected to attend the Italian War College and, upon graduation, was assigned to the Italian Army headquarters at Verona, Italy. Returning to the United States in 1960, his next assignment was at the Pentagon in charge of Special Warfare. Next was a tour in 1963 as Military Advisor to the Chinese Special Forces in Formosa, an assignment at Fort Knox, KY in 1964 and a 1967-1968 tour in Iran as Military Advisor to the First Imperial Iranian Army. The final stage of his military career was spent with the Fifth Army Inspector General's Office at Fort Sheridan where he retired as a Colonel in September, 1973.
Colonel Vetrone was awarded many decorations and service medals in his distinguished military career of 26 years, including the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Order of Chung Mu from the Korean Government, Army General Staff Badge and Master Parachutist Wings. Following his military service, Phil accepted a position as Business Development Officer for the newly formed New Century Bank in Mundelein, where he successfully built an impressive client base, resulting in a most successful banking career. He continued his community involvement with the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Sharvin Post (Post Commander) and as a parishioner of Queen of Peace Church.
Col. Vetrone was preceded in death by his dear wife of 55 years, Frances Burkich Vetrone and by his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Mastrianno; the Tom Heffernan family; the Anthony Carrano family; the George Montano family and by many other close friends.
Visitation will take place at Queen of Peace Church, 910 14th Street, North Chicago on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 from 9 to 10:30 AM, followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville.
Arrangements are under the direction of PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan.

Dr. Gary Graham
Dr. Gary D. Graham, 64, of Libertyville, IL, passed away suddenly, Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
He was born August 6, 1940 in Norton, Kansas and had lived in Libertyville for the past 30 years. Dr. Graham graduated with honors and completed medical school at the University of Nebraska and was board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. He enlisted in the US Navy and served for eight years at Bethesda, MD and Great Lakes, IL and was a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He was the former medical director for the Kemper Insurance Company and currently the One #1 Insurance Co. in Elgin. He was a member and served on the Session at the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville and had served on the Libertyville High School Board.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanne; three children, Traci (Steven) Risso of Lincoln, NE, Lisa Graham of Annapolis, MD and Jason Graham of Olathe, KS; two sisters, Nancy (Don) Hunt of Hawaii and Carol (Rev. Samford) Turner of Fairhope, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Joan Graham.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at the First Presbyterian Church, Maple and Douglas Avenues, Libertyville. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Tuesday. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville. Info: 847-362-3009. David C. Lantz
David C. Lantz, 77, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Condell Medical Center.
He was born January 4, 1928 in Ames, Iowa and was a 1946 graduate of Ames High School. He enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea until 1948 and returned to Ames to graduate from Iowa State University in 1952. He was employed in international advertising at the Allis-Chalmers Corp. in Milwaukee and the Fiat-Allis Corp. in Deerfield for 30 years. He later retired in 1993 as the manager of communications for the Spraying Systems Corp. in Wheaton. David was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville and enjoyed photography.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne Lantz; one son, Robert (Elan) Lantz of Golden, CO; and grandchildren, Leif and Justus; one sister, Dr. Judith Little of Blacksburg, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Hattie Ona Lantz; and by his brother, Harvey S. Lantz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5 at the First Presbyterian Church, Maple & Douglas Avenues, Libertyville, with the Rev. Dr. Brian R. Paulson, officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176) Libertyville. Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Lakeside cemetery Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 500, Libertyville, IL 60048 or the First Presbyterian Church.

LaVerne S. Peer
LaVerne S. Peer 89 formerly of Round Lake and Antioch passed away Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Manorcare Health Services Libertyville, IL. She was born April 30, 1915 in Chicago, the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Stewart) Brown. She had lived in Round Lake for over 20 years before moving to Arizona in 1971, then to Laclede, MO in 1981, and then to Antioch in 1994. While living in Round Lake she worked for the A&P; in Libertyville and Round Lake as a cashier. She was a member of the Laclede United Methodist Church, the PEO Sorority, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Round Lake and Laclede, MO. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling after her retirement, and she loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Allie and by her second husband, Clyde Peer whom she married on April 24, 1948 in Chicago.
Survivors include her son, Darrell Sr (Roberta) Allie of Antioch; her two grandchildren, Darrell Jr (Jennifer) Allie and Deena (Edwardo) Herrera; and her great-grandchild, Hannah Elizabeth Allie; two sisters, Margaret Rypka and June Domagala.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James and William; and sister, Agnes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83) Antioch. Interment will follow in St. Matthew cemetery Hawthrone Woods, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 until 8PM.
Those desiring may make contributions to the Laclede United Methodist Church Laclede, MO in her memory.

Hazel T. Percy (nee Tornquist)
Hazel T. Percy (nee Tornquist), 98, of Lake Forest and formerly of Waukegan passed away on Friday, April 1, 2005 at Balmoral Care Center in Lake Forest. She was born November 18, 1906 in Benton Harbor, MI and had been a Waukegan resident for most of her life.
Hazel was a member and ordained deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan. She was also a member of the Waukegan Women's Club and Swedish Glee Club.
She is survived by her sister, Susie Morris of Lake Forest; also by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Percy; parents, Charles and Mary (nee Walkling) Tornquist; and two brothers, Clarence A. and Edward M. Tornquist.
Services were private.
Those who wish to make a donation in her memory may make them to First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan, 122 N. Martin Luther King Ave., Waukegan, IL 60085.

Jeffrey Williams
Jeffrey Williams, 43 of Waukegan. passed away at St. Therese Hospital, March 30, 2005.
He was born February 16, 1962 as a mentally challenged child. He earned his high school diploma from Waukegan High on June 6, 1983. He was employed at Lakeside Work and Training Center, where he looked forward to going to every morning. He gave his life to Christ at an early age.
Jeffrey is survived by his parents, Reverend James and Vivian Williams of Waukegan, brothers and sisters, Mike (Martha) Williams of Shreveport, LA., Danny (Joyce) Williams of North Chicago, IL., Brenda (James) Whitehead of Waukegan, Kathleen (Dayton) Mosely of Shreveport, LA., Vicky Williams of Waukegan, Leila (Jimmy) Scott of North Chicago, Ira (Stella) Williams of Zion, half sisters, Linda Williams of Texas and Donnie Moore of Texas, half brother, James Williams Jr., of Maryland. Grandmother Frances Saxton of Waukegan. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia (Williams) Holmes.
Graveside Service will be held at Highland Memorial cemetery, 33100 N. Hunt Club Road, Libertyville, IL., Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Professional services conducted by WESTGATE FUNERAL HOME, Waukegan, IL 847-662-8000.

Barbara J. Cross
Barbara J. Cross, 67, of Round Lake Beach passed away Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Born October 17, 1934 in Chicago. The daughter of the late: Fred A. Lyon, Jr., and Marcella Briggs. Barbara showed Siberian Huskies at AKC shows. She enjoyed cooking, Crafts, such as Knitting, Crocheting, and Picture Framing. She had a great love for her animals especially her cats and dogs.
She leaves her husband: Reginald D. Cross whom she wed on March 6, 1971 in Chicago. Daughters: Tina (Steven) Burns of Bristol, WI., Georgette (Michael) Viramontes of Round Lake, Samantha (the late Todd) Brooks of Round Lake Beach. Sons: John Grant of Blue Island, David (Megan) Struck of Skokie. Seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and her sister: Charlotte. Many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her sister: Doris.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at THE STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL. 60030 with the Rev. Lisle J. Kauffman of the Calvary Presbyterian Church of Round Lake officiating. Interment will follow at Avon Centre cemetery in Grayslake.
