Hazel T. Percy (nee Tornquist)
Hazel T. Percy (nee Tornquist), 98, of Lake Forest and formerly of Waukegan passed away on Friday, April 1, 2005 at Balmoral Care Center in Lake Forest. She was born November 18, 1906 in Benton Harbor, MI and had been a Waukegan resident for most of her life.
Hazel was a member and ordained deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan. She was also a member of the Waukegan Women's Club and Swedish Glee Club.
She is survived by her sister, Susie Morris of Lake Forest; also by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Percy; parents, Charles and Mary (nee Walkling) Tornquist; and two brothers, Clarence A. and Edward M. Tornquist.
Services were private.
Those who wish to make a donation in her memory may make them to First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan, 122 N. Martin Luther King Ave., Waukegan, IL 60085.

Joan Schultz (nee League)
Joan (nee League) Schultz, a Grayslake resident, age 69, passed away at her home on March 29, 2005. She was born in Chicago on August 8, 1935, the daughter of Estelle (nee McAver), teacher for Chicago School Systems for 29 years, and Howard S. League, Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, and 47 year employee, building manager and engineer of the Chicago Motor Club building in downtown Chicago. Joan was the granddaughter of Howard A. League, a shipbuilder from Gwynn's Island, VA. She was a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago. Joan was a banker for 36 years, having worked for National Bank of Grayslake, First National Bank of Lake Forest, and Crystal Lake Bank. She was also a member of the American Zoological Society and American Association of Zookeepers Association, and owned Boomer Ball, specializing in activity toys for pets and zoo animals for 30 years.
She is survived by her children, James Joseph, Jr. (Lori) Schultz of Trevor, WI, Elisabeth Ann Marie (Calvin) Grenus of Winnebago, IL, Christine Carolyn (John) Gustafson of Trevor, WI, David Howard (Amy) Schultz of Grayslake; her grandchildren, Roseanna Lynn (Jason) Kersten of Cape Coral, FL, Bradley James Schultz of Idaho, Frank and Jessica Grenus, Felicia and Glen Gustafson, and Roman Schultz; her two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Johnathon Kersten; her sister, Carolyn (nee League) (Blake) Parker of Palos Park; former husband, James Joseph Schultz of Fort Myers, FL.
Her aforementioned parents precede her in death.
Friends of the family may visit on Sunday, April 3, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATORIUM, 410 E. BELVIDERE ROAD, GRAYSLAKE, ILLINOIS 60030. The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m., also at the funeral chapel. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Association of Zookeepers, Rhinoceros Preservation Trust, 3601 SW 29th Street, Suite 133, Topeka, KS 66614-2054.

Irene Bertha Tonigan
Irene Bertha Tonigan, 93, a lifelong resident of Waukegan, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005 in Bedford, TX, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Irene was born in Grayslake, IL to Benjamin and Harriett Smith on February 20, 1912 and married William Robert Tonigan June 7, 1931. Together they had on daughter, Irene Tonigan Bach. She retired as a Purchasing Agent at Great Lakes Naval Hospital.
Bob Tonigan was the love of her life. They spent over 60 years together raising their daughter and loving their families. After retirement, they spent time traveling the United States and Mexico. They wintered in southern Texas for 20 years enjoying dancing, Cribbage and Bingo. When in Waukegan, Irene spent her later years playing Bingo at numerous locations in Waukegan and regularly played Cribbage at the Waukegan Senior Center.
She leaves behind her three grandchildren, Sandra (Jeff) Williams of Bedford, TX, Colleen (JR) Kelly of Tallahassee, FL and Guy (Lauri) Bach of Rowlett, TX; her great-grandchildren, Jessika and Patrick Mathews, Jarrod, Ryan and Claire Kelly, Candace and Caramae Bach; her son-in-law, Herbert (Bud) Bach of Colleyville, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Irene; sister, Helen Obenauf; brother, Mike Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the Salata Funeral Home of Gurnee, 4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, with the Rev. Dr. Gehl Devore officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and 12 noon until time of service on Monday.
The family wishes to thank Vista Hospice and her caregivers for their love and support.

John Francis Wachter, Jr.
John Francis Wachter, Jr., 62, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Monday, March 28, 2005, at the V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI.
John was born November 19, 1942, in Highland Park, IL, and was a former Firefighter with the Great Lakes Naval Base and Winthrop Harbor Fire Department.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen (Daniel) Pavelich of Kenosha, WI; a son, John F. (Melissa) Wachter III of Roselle, IL; and a granddaughter, Mari Pavelich.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Francis Wachter, Sr. and mother, Edith Wachter.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Chaplain Elizabeth Tsang of the Vista Star Hospice officiating. Private interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Jim Wolfe
Jim Wolfe, 55, of Beach Park, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Brentwood North Healthcare Center in Riverwoods, Illinois.
Jim was born October 12, 1949 in Waukegan, had lived in this area all of his life and had recently planned on retiring to Ironwood, Michigan. He was employed for 15 years with the Gurnee School District and for the past five years with Midwest Generation in Waukegan.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Jennifer; children, Charlie Wolfe and Suzanne Wolfe, both of Kenosha; one brother, Gary (Carmen) Wolfe of Ft. Myers, Florida and their children,, Brittany and Caitlyn; one aunt, Gladys Love of Gurnee; and his beloved dog "Moki."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rush and Marion Wolfe.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, with Pastor Jon Wiziarde officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Memorial donations to Camp Zion ministries of Christ Community Church have been suggested.

Cynthia H. Callahan
Age 68 of Lake Bluff, died March 28, 2002 in Minneapolis. Wife of Cornelius P. Callahan. Mother of Matthew "Britt" Callahan of Phoenix, AZ, Tia Turelli of Haddam, CT and Laura Kaiser of Plymouth, MN; grandmother of seven; sister of Leonora Ross of Wilmington, DE.
Born in Evanston, Illinois June 2, 1933 and a resident of Lake Bluff for 40 years. Graduate of North Shore Country Day School and of Bradford College. She did additional studies at the University of Berne in Switzerland. Member of The Junior League of Chicago. A lifetime lover of books, Mrs. Callahan was on the staff of The Lake Forest Library & Lake Forest Book Store. She was also the former Librarian at the School of St. Mary in Lake Forest. She particularly enjoyed helping younger readers entering the world of books for the first time and those older readers who had become more selective in their choice of reading.
Funeral mass 10AM, Tuesday, April 2, at the Church Of St. Mary, Green Bay at Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. Interment - St. Mary cemetery, Lake Forest. William B. Cash
William B. Cash, 86, of Hawthorn Woods, IL, passed away Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Manor Care Health Services in Libertyville, IL. He was born May 28, 1915 in Portland, Indiana and was a resident of Norwalk, Ohio for most of his life.
He was a 1933 graduate of Penville High School in Indiana and retired to Mt. Dora, FL in 1974. Bill was the owner of Nobils Shoe Stores, a lifelong member of the Lions Club and Methodist Church, all in Norwalk.
Surviving are his son William (Christine) Cash, Jr., of Hawthorn Woods, IL and three grandchildren, Jason, Nathan and Whitney.
He was preceded in death by his wife Luella J. Cash in 2001.
Funeral Services were held at 4:30 pm Saturday, March 30, 2002 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in his memory. Info: 847-362-3009.

Marjorie I. DeYoung
Marjorie I. DeYoung, 77, of Waukegan died March 28, 2002 at her home. She was born in Mount Sterling, Illinois. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Waukegan, was an ardent member of the Art Institute of Chicago and during WW II she worked for the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. In 1944 she attended the University of Illinois where she received a degree in Bacteriology. Prior to her retirement she worked in research at Abbott Laboratories for 37 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and her step-mother. She is survived by her husband, Eugene "Skip" DeYoung; a half sister, Louise Simon and niece and nephew, John Simon and Cheryl Nurse of California.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2002 at Bonnie Brook Golf Course. Lunch and memorial service time is 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Marjorie DeYoung's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Donald E. Haas
Donald E. Haas, 53, formerly of Winthrop Harbor and Zion, and presently of Gurnee, died March 27, 2002 in Waukegan.
Donald was born October 9, 1948 in Waukegan to the late William and Sadie Haas. He attended the Winthrop Harbor grade schools, Zion-Benton Township High School, and graduated on the National Deans List at Moody Bible Institute. He attended Lakeview Church in Zion and the Village Church of Gurnee. He had worked at OMC for many years, and most recently at Allegiance Healthcare.
Donald is survived by his step-mother, Lois Marie Haas of Satsuma, FL; a brother, Lauren Haas of Zion; and a half-sister, Julie Ann (Richard) Poole of San Mateo, FL.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Pastor Les Martin of Lakeview Church officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday at Northshore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Alvin "Al" Himber
Alvin "Al" Himber, 80, of Antioch, IL passed away Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Rolling Hills Manor, Zion, IL.
He was born to Emil and Rose Himber Sr. on September 22, 1921 in Chicago, moving to Antioch in 1989.
Al worked for several years as a truck driver for Air Tite Co. in Chicago, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Local 705 of the Teamsters Union. On December 20, 1942, he married Dorothee Hansen in Chicago.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothee; two daughters, Carol Rose Cavanaugh of Gurnee, IL and Jodi (Terry) Banser of Trevor, WI; two sons, Jack (Jeanne) Himber of Chicago and Bob (Tammy) Himber of Spring Grove, IL; two brothers, Lester and Billie both in Chicago; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rick in 1997; and five brothers; and two sisters.
Al had seven brothers, six of whom served in World War II along with a nephew. Al served with the 976th M.P. Company as a motorcycle patrolman in Europe during World War II. He was a life member of the V.F.W., Past Commander of "Chicago's Own" Post #1604 and a two term Past Commander of the Antioch Sequoit Post #4551.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83). Interment with Military Honors will be at Hillside cemetery, Antioch. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM Monday where V.F.W. Services will be held at 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Antioch Rescue Squad would be appreciated.

James R. Lesch, Sr.
James R. Lesch, Sr., 48, of Winthrop Harbor died on March 29, 2002 in Lake Forest.
James was born April 10, 1953 in Waukegan, and worked for Civil Service at Great Lakes. He was an Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam.
James is survived by his wife, Barbara; two children, James R. Lesch, Jr., of Park City and Michelle M. Lesch of North Chicago; three step-children, Steven R. (Nicole) Harris of Marietta, GA and Jeff and Heather Keepper, both of Winthrop Harbor; his mother, Lois Hoffer of FL; his father, Richard Lesch of AZ; a brother, Bobby Lesch of AZ; two sisters, Cheryl (Hans) Norman of FL and Kathy Adams of NM; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Alene Harris of MS.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chuck.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 5:00 pm at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion with Pastor Michael Brown of the First Baptist Church officiating. A visitation for friends and relatives will be held after 4:00 pm Tuesday until service time.

Nelson L. Reeks
Nelson L. Reeks, 89, of Wilmette, IL passed away Friday, March 29, 2002 at his home. He was born May 28, 1927 in St. Louis, MO, was formerly of Chicago and has lived in Wilmette for the past 21 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Wilmette and a retired 50 year employee of the Northern Trust Bank in Chicago. He was also a US Army Veteran, having served during World War II.
Surviving are his wife RoseMary (nee Bercher) Reeks of Wilmette, four children, Kathleen (Barry) Goldsmith of Kodiak Island, Alaska, Patrick (Leota) Reeks of Cary, IL, Mary T. Reeks of Schaumburg and Ann (Bob Kimberlin) Reeks of Deerfield; two grandchildren, Colleen and Robert Nelson Reeks; his sisters, Charlotte and Mildred and brother Harold.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 1, 2002 at St. Joseph Church, Lake St. and Ridge Ave., Wilmette. Interment will follow at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, masses or contributions to the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd. Chicago, IL 60607 would be appreciated. Arrangements are by the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME in Libertyville. Info: 847-362-3009.

Patricia Ruth Troemel
Patricia Ruth Troemel, 67, ofGrayslake passed away Saturday, March 30, 2002 at her residence. Born January 13, 1935 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Burt and Margaret Holt.
A resident of Grayslake the past 47 years, Patricia had been employed with the Grayslake Pharmacy and Judy's Hair Salon in Grayslake. She was very active in the Cub Scouts serving as a Den Mother and was a "Sports Mom" who was always her sons biggest fan. A member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church.
She leaves her husband of 47 years James Troemel; sons: Jim (Cathy) Troemel of Fox Lake; Ken (Jan) Troemel of Lake Bluff; Greg (Julie) Troemel of Normal, IL and Brian (Linda) Troemel of Lake Villa; grandchildren: Jaclyn, Marc, Emily, Lauren, Brittany, Taylor, Tony, Chelsea, Stacey, Alec and Abby Troemel; sister: Marge Pramshafer of Nevada.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Round Lake. Friends of the family may visit at the STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030 on Tuesday evening from 4:00 - 9:00 pm.

Virginia S. Wirth
Virginia S. Wirth, 91, of Zion passed away March 28, 2002 in Zion.
Virginia was born October 19, 1910 in Zion, to the late Ralph and Esther Storey, and was a lifelong member of Christ Community Church. She attended Zion Preparatory College and had worked for the telephone company in Zion, Great Lakes Naval Training Center, and then for the Department of Intelligence in Washington, D.C.
Virginia is survived by one son, Ralph E. (Bettye) Wirth of Oregon; three grandsons, Larry, Tom and David Wirth; a granddaughter, Keely; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard (Byrdine) Storey of Waukegan, and Roger Storey, Burton (Carol) and Loren (Janet) Storey, all of Zion; two sisters, Maxine (Ira) Krause of Zion and Jean Storey of Beach Park; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Esther Storey; her second mother, Ruth Storey; three brothers, Victor, Donald and C. James Storey; two sisters, Jessie Burgess and Adelle Groome; and a grandson, Joey Wirth.
A cemetery committal service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion with Pastor Jon Wiziarde officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ Community Church for the Camp Zion Building Fund would be appreciated in her memory.
