Mrs. Amanda Pierce Christian
Mrs. Amanda Pierce Christian, lovingly called "Auntie," departed this life on Thursday, March 25, 2004. She was born on August 4, 1912 on Blue Hill in Jefferson County, Mississippi. Her parents were Allen and Mittie Pierce. She was the second of their three children. She had one daughter, Florence L. Bailey.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Zion Baptist Church in Jefferson County, Mississippi. She came to Waukegan in January of 1957 where she met and married the late Rev. Hubert Christian. She was a long time member of Gideon Missionary Baptist Church in Waukegan. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the North Shore Ministers Wives and Widows. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives sharing her stories and words of wisdom. She was feisty and vibrant and we will miss her laughter and sharp wit.
She leaves to cherish her life in memory her one & only child Florence Bailey; one sister-in-law, Idell Jones; seven grandchildren, Barbara Gaines, Judith White (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Sherrie (Victor) Bolden, Michael Bailey, Brenda Taylor, Janice Bradford, and Amanda (Dwayne) Daniel; fifteen great-grandchildren, and eighteen great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Amanda was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hubert Christian, her parents, Allen and Mittie Pierce, her brothers, Joseph Pierce, Will Pierce, John and James Jones, her sisters, Ollie and Rosie, her son-in-law, James Bailey, her granddaughter, Florence Bailey Rencher, her great-grandson, Jeffrey Gaines, and her great-great-grandson, Michol Jordane Bailey.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Gideon Missionary Baptist Church 1500 Ridgeland Ave., Waukegan, IL with Pastor Wade A. Stevenson, officiating. Interment will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Cedar Hill City cemetery, Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will be at 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

Eleanor Katherine Cliff
Eleanor Katherine Cliff, age 86, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, formerly of Waukegan, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Carey Manor. She was born September 23, 1917 in Plover, Wisconsin, the daughter of Felix and Mary (Wojak) Bannach.
She attended schools in Waukegan, and lived in Santa Barbara, CA for many years, returning to Lake County in 1949. She was an avid golfer. She was owner-operator of Wally's Motel in Gurnee, IL, for 25 years. She was a member of St. Dismas Catholic Church in Waukegan, Orchard Hills Ladies Golf League, Grand Bowl Wood Choppers, Grand Bowl Belles Bowling League, and St. Dismas Womens Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (David) Campbell of Waukegan and Kathy (Daniel) Dever of Waukegan; eight grandchildren, James Andrew Dever, John (Kathy) Dever, Russell Wallace (Kathy) Dever, Jeffrey Allen (Rhea) Dever, Dana Marie Dever, Robert David Campbell, Shari Lynn (Scott) Nagel, and Lisa Kay Campbell; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, William Mangan (January 27, 1948), Wallace Witte (January 8, 1974), and Edward E. Cliff (August 11, 2000); five sisters, Anna Niemann, Matilda Presley, Helen Nesbitt, Fran Mollohan, Esther Stonesifer; and six brothers.
Funeral Services for Eleanor K. Cliff will be Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 4:00 PM from Kenosha Funeral Services, 8226 Sheridan Rd. Visitation from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday. Walter R. Elfering, 79, of Lake Forest, IL passed away peacefully Sunday, March 28, 2004 surrounded by his family. Walter was a retired carpenter for Neimeyer Brothers, Inc. in Lake Forest.
He is survived by his wife of 50 1/2 years, Annamari; seven children, Mary Goosman of Vernon Hills, Kathy (David) Biondi of Lake Forest, Patty (Peter)Rebenchini of Cedar Park, TX, George (Triona) of West Columbia, SC, John (Lela) of Paddock Lake, WI, Peter (Katie) of Zion and Richard (Jennifer) of Wausaukee, WI. He was also survived by 17 grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, Don Goosman (fiancee Melanie Reynolds) of Aurora, IL, Stephanie (fiance Scott Taylor) Biondi of Anoka, MN, Gary Goosman of Vernon Hills, Eric and Amy Rebechini of Cedar Park, TX, Stephen and Brian Elfering of West Columbia, SC, J.R. Martin George Kornejek, 89, of Waverly, TN, died Friday, March 19, 2004. He was a Navy veteran of WW II.
Martin is survived by his loving wife Alice Henley Kornejek; his sister, Ann Jungblut of Chicago, IL; one stepson, John (Letha) Page of Waverly, TN; one stepdaughter, Marla (John) Owens of Waverly, TN; three stepgrandchildren: Stephanie Page, Chris Owens, Michelle Owens. Several nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by his parents Martin and Rose Barkol Kornejek.

Mary A. Peterson Strang
Mary A. Peterson Strang, age 98, life-long resident of Lake County, died March 28, 2004 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Palos Heights. She was born March 5, 1906 in Zion, Illinois.
She was a member of Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, Waukegan Women's Club, Victory Hospital Volunteer with 3500 hours of service. She was a retired corsetiere from Hein's Clothing Store.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte (Robert) VanTreeck of Tinley Park; grandchildren, Robert (Elena) VanTreeck of Evanston, IL, William VanTreeck of Papua, New Guinea, Mary Beth (Wayne) Hemzacek of Westminster, CO, and Julie (Robert) Prinz of Aurora, IL; and eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan VanTreeck, Katherine, Noah and Allison Hemzacek; and Timothy, Zachary, and Rachel Prinz; and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Peterson of Arvaca, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elis Peterson and Theodore Strang; a brother, Walter; and three sisters, Evelyn, Charlotte, and Helen; and her parents, Charlotte and Will Scott.
Funeral Services will be held at Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church, Gurnee, on Thursday, April 1 at 11 AM, Rev. Clyde Elledge officiating. Burial at North Shore Garden of Memories. Sharon E. McGaughey
Sharon E. McGaughey, 45 passed away March 26, 2004 at Desert Banner Hospital in Mesa AZ, after a short battle with cancer. She was born March 14, 1959 in Waukegan, IL.
Sharon was a lifelong resident of Waukegan, an avid Cubs fan, and a member of Women of the Moose. She worked for Riley Construction in Waukegan.
Sharon is survived by a special friend, Tom Tansey; siblings, Michael McGaughey of Milwaukee, WI, Maureen McGaughey of Antioch, IL, Bridget Krakovsky of Round Lake, IL, Eileen Quist of Kenosha, WI, Coleen (Donny) Baker of Zion, IL, Kevin (Megan) McGaughey of Wadsworth, IL, Sheila (John) Dempsey of Arlington Heights, IL; nieces and nephews, Kelly (Scot) Kurck, Jason Quist, Jessica and Abigail Grover, Amanda Fosterling, Kevin Baker, Charlie, Patrick, and Ryan Dempsey; and cat Jessie Ann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene S. McGaughey (1989), and Elizabeth J McGaughey (1993); and a nephew, Jeremy M. Govekar (1999).

Phillip "P.J." Joseph Shreve, age 35, of Waukegan, died March 25, 2004 in Waukegan. He was born July 8, 1968 in Rockford, Illinois.
He was an avid Packers fan. He attended Waukegan High School.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Frances M. Shreve (Perez) three children, Fabian Colon Jr., Vicenta J. Shreve, Osana M. Shreve; mother, Linda Shreve; one brother, Michael J. Shreve Jr. (Jasmine); two sisters, Melissa Trevino, Marlena J.D. Shreve; nieces and nephews, Bevilliya "Lee-Lee" Shreve, Christian Shreve, Migdelia Trevino, Marc Anthony DeJesus, Mateo Galagher; in-laws, Cutberto and Margarita Perez of Edcouch, TX; two brothers-in-law, Juan (Stacy) Perez of Zion, IL, and Cutberto Perez Jr. of Waukegan, IL; nieces and nephews, Juan Luis Perez, Briana J. Perez, Giovanni A. Perez, Enjoli X. Perez, Destiny C. Perez, Antonio C. Perez; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael J. Shreve Sr.; maternal grandparents, Felipe Vicenta Cisneroz; aunts, Mary and Pattie Cisneroz; uncle, Johney Cisneroz; cousin, Steve Cisneroz; cousin, Donald Dalton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10AM at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Visitation from 9 AM to 10 AM on Thursday, and Wednesday from 5 to 9 PM on Wednesday. Burial will be private.

John Edward Wenzel
John Edward Wenzel, age 73, a 50 year resident of the Fox Lake and Ingleside, IL, died suddenly Sunday, March 28, 2004 at his home. He was born May 4, 1930 to John W. and Ida M. (nee Patterson) Wenzel.
John was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was formerly employed with Johnson Outboard Motors in Waukegan, IL, retiring after 30 years as a Drill Press Operator.
He was a member of the Lakes Region American Legion Post #703 in Fox Lake, IL, and for the past two years had acted as caretaker at the Legion Hall on Route 12. He was also a member of St. Bede Catholic Church in Ingleside, and a former member of the Fox Lake Moose Lodge. John enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His survivors include his children, Laura (Barnett) Aughinbaugh of Englewood, FL, Sharon (Michael) Olsen of Antioch, IL, and John S. Wenzel of Zion, IL; his grandchildren, Lori (Charles) Stedman of Wisconsin, Brett Aughinbaugh of Florida, and by Jereme and Hannah Olsen, both of Antioch; three great-grandchildren, Brad, Damien, and Alex; a brother, Frederick Wenzel of Oak Park, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Adele (nee Hetzel) Wenzel; a sister, Rosena Mae O'Donnell; his brother-in-law, John O'Donnell; and by a sister-in-law, Arlene "Bunny" Wenzel.
Visitations will be on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 from 5-9 p.m. at the K. K. HAMSHER FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake, IL (The Chapel On The Lake - 1 Bl. West of Rte. 12 - 1/2 Bl. North of Grand Ave.)

Kenneth A. Bain
Kenneth A. Bain, 71, of Beach Park, IL passed away on Friday, March 25, 2005 at Victory Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 19, 1933 in Russel, IL to the late Kenneth T. Bain and Martha (Kelly) Bain.
Kenneth graduated from Warren Township High School and had served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Kenneth was owner and operator of Bain Plastering Company for over 20 years then retired as Deputy Director of Lake County Building and Zoning.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia A. Bain; a daughter, Kathleen (Larry) Mathews; a son, Kenneth R. (Cookie) Bain; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Jeffery Mathews; and two step grandchildren, Anna and Jenny.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James W. Bain.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, march 30, 2005 at the SALATA-GURNEE FUNERAL HOME, 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be at the Salata-Gurnee Funeral Home on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Pine View cemetery in Beach Park, IL. Robert Walter Bywell
Robert Walter Bywell, 83, of Seminole, FL, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at home. He was born in Chicago and moved to Florida in 1984 from Antioch, IL. He was a graduate of the Chicago College of Optometry and was an optometrist with his private practice in Antioch. He was a machinist's mate third class in the Navy in World War II and a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey J.; two daughters, Susan M. Bywell, Seminole, FL and Charmaine J. Bertling, Spring Hill, TN; and three grandchildren, Erica, Deanna and Mark.
One son proceeded in death, Thomas.

Carl F. Cizek
Carl F. Cizek, 86, of Libertyville, IL, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 at his home. He was born on a farm in Bloomfield, MT on October 15, 1918, and was a former 20 year resident of Mundelein, living in Libertyville since 1946.
Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in the European Theatre during World War II and was employed in the Food Service Division of the Naval Supply Depot at Great Lakes from 1945-73. He was a member of the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society, enjoyed hiking and had been one of the caretaker's of the Cook Mansion.
Carl is survived by many friends, including his dear friends and neighbors, Joe and Sherry Tucci of Libertyville; Joey and Lynnette Tucci and their children, Cody, Tina and Brook; Allen and Juddy Tucci and their children, Ryan, Anthoney and Nicholas; Nick Tucci and Michelle Sharon and their son, Wesley; Donnie and Vickie Tucci and their children, Samantha, Colton and Britz; Stephanie and Geoffrey Trudeau and their children, Geoffrey, Joseph, Nichole and Jonathan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose Cizek and by his sister, with whom he made his home for most of his life, Helen Cizek on January 30, 1999.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 30 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176), Libertyville. Interment with full Military Honors by the Libertyville VFW Post will follow at Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday. Alfred Charles Fink
Alfred Charles Fink, 96, of Zion, Illinois, formerly an 87 year resident of Naperville, Illinois, died on Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion.
Alfred was born January 24, 1909 in Naperville. He was a graduate of North Central College in Naperville, and worked as a Real Estate Salesman. Formerly an active member of Community United Methodist Church of Naperville, where he was a charter member of Builders Sunday School class, he was currently a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion. He earned the Silver Beaver Award for years of service to the DuPage Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was also a charter member of Naperville River Walk Committee, and he was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Karen) Fink of Zion, Illinois and Rolland (Brenda) Fink of Portage, Michigan; one daughter, Marilyn (Jerry) McNamara of Marshalltown, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Gregory, Bruce, Daniel, Megan, Steven, Cherryl, Ryan and Jason; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Sarah, Austin, Aaron, Maxwell, Madeline, Ethan, Stefanie, Marisa and Mei.
He will be greeted in Heaven by his wife, Iva in 1979, whom he married on June 22, 1935 in Naperville; one sister, Isabelle (and the late Bob) Bertany in 2003; and his parents, Andrew and Carrie Fink.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor Paul Gerardy officiating. Interment is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Naperville cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Memorial United Methodist Church has been suggested. William Peter Grampo
William Peter Grampo of Kissimmee, Florida. Formerly of Waukegan. died March 27, 2005.
He is survived by three daughters; Tonya Holtorf, Tina Holtorf of Florida and Anna Minkler of Tennessee. One son, William Holtorf of Nebrasko. One sister, Dorothy (Richard) Krapf and three brothers, Edward (Shirley) Grampo Jr., Mike Grampo and Joe (Gloria) Grampo and many grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Grampo Sr. and Florence Grampo.
Burial will be private.

James Henry Griffin, Sr.
James Henry Griffin, Sr., age 64, of Waukegan, IL passed away at home on March 25, 2005.
He was born May 23, 1940 in Chattanooga, TN. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Griffin; two sons, James H. (Arnetta) Griffin, Jr., of Waukegan and Christopher Carrothers of Chicago; three daughters, Jeannette Griffin of Champaign, IL, Janice (Alonzo) Conner and Joyce (Jimmy) Powell, both of Columbus, OH; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Archie Griffin, Jr., of Chicago; two sisters, Mary H. Ngoh and Jackie Griffin, both of Chicago; also a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Griffin, Sr. and Helen Frost Griffin; a brother, Wesley Carther and a sister, Debra Griffin.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the BRADSHAW & RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, IL. Interment will be at the Mt. Olivet Memorial Park cemetery, Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. (847) 662-3553.
