Vernie Wall
Services for Vernie W. Wall, 95, of Decatur were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Burial was in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
He died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Born April 8, 1907 in Chattanooga in the Oklahoma Territory, he was the son of Albert William and Minnie May Brown Wall. His family returned to Illinois by covered wagon to settle on the family farm in Shelby County. He was a heavy equipment operator and farmed. He was a member of the Elwin United Methodist Church and Operating Engineers Local 965. He married Helen Cornthwaite Sept. 3, 1927, and she died April 29 1998. He then married Marilyn June 2, 1999.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Roberta M.) Brown of Decatur; son, Albert E. “Eugene” Wall of Dalton City; stepchildren, Roger Stephens of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Mrs. George (Monica) Shock of Newton and Mrs. Joe (Cindy) Francher of Flora; brother, Roy C. Wall of Decatur; sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Viola) Crutchfield of Decatur and Minnie Watson, Corda Page and Lois Dunaway, all of Cowden; eight grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and six step great-great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, one sister and one great-grandson preceded him in death.

Russell Wendling
Graveside services for Russell James Wendling, 81, of Shelbyville were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Maroa Cemetery with the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 in his home.
Born June 10, 1921 in Maroa, he was the son of William Oscar and Bertha Schubert Wendling. He was a farmer.
Surviving are his brothers, Carl Wendling of Assumption and Wilbur Wendling of Palm Harbor, Fla; and sisters, Viola Dagley of Sullivan, Mary Pope of Oreana, Mrs. Charles (Jeanette) Schnepper and Nellie Wendling, both of Decatur.
One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
Mildred Bradford
Funeral services for Mrs. Everett (Mildred B. Gibson) Bradford, 87, of Arthur were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in the Vine Street Christian Church in Arthur with the Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Arthur Cemetery with the Shrader Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements.
She passed away at 6:09 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 in the Arthur Home.
Mrs. Bradford was born Feb. 7, 1916 in Arthur, the daughter of Byrdice “Byrt” and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Herzberg Gibson. She was a 1934 graduate of Arthur Township High School. She was a life member of the Vine Street Christian Church, member of the CWF, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 427 in Arthur and a 50-year member of Marionette Lodge 742 in Arthur. She was a Girl Scout leader and worked as receptionist for her husband’s optometry business. She married G. Everett Bradford June 16, 1934 in Rockville, Ind., and he preceded her in death May 10, 2001.
Surviving are her son, George E. Bradford and wife Nancy of Champaign; daughters, Joanna K. Sigler of Arthur, Linda M. Perrine and husband Rodney of Sullivan and Patti S. Dukeman and husband Terry of Decatur; grandchildren, Bill Bradford and wife Bonnie, Mike Bradford and wife Sherry, Jeff Bradford, Christian Bradford and Tony Sigler, Angie Hollingsworth and husband Scott, Suzy Sigler, Jennifer Perrine and Anna Dukeman, and Kevin Dukeman and wife Erin; great-grandchildren, Amy Bradford, Katie Bradford, Samantha Bradford, Macy Hollingsworth, Jake Hollingsworth, Kyle Parish and Braden Dukeman; step great-grandchild, Brittanie Hollingsworth; brother-in-law, Stuart Ferchow of Arthur; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anna Belle Johnson; and brother, Avery Gibson.

Marvin Bragg
Services for Marvin E. Bragg, 57, of Windsor were held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Burial was in the Windsor Cemetery.
Mr. Bragg was born Jan. 15, 1946 in Dunn, the son of Alrick and Emma Isaacs Bragg. He was an avid pool player, a member of the Eagles Club in Mattoon and the BCA and Valley pool leagues in Decatur. He married Patsy Thomason May 14, 2000 in Windsor, and she survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Scarlett Moll of Sullivan, Melissa Bragg and Toni Hanson, both of Clinton, Sherri Bragg of Bloomington and Tina Thomason of Windsor; grandchildren, Madison Moll of Sullivan and Alex and Andrew Hanson of Clinton; sister, Dorothy Butt of Bethany; and several extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. John Brown
Funeral services for Mrs. John (Sharon M. McMeekan) Brown, 65, of Sullivan were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Dutch Reform Church in Fairview. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Fairview.
She died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 in Eastview Terrace in Sullivan.
Sharon was born April 22, 1938 in New Windsor, the daughter of Marion and Frances Peterson McMeekan. She married John R. Brown June 25, 1981 in Monmouth, and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother, Frances Peterson of Galesburg; son, Henry M.B. and Wanda Wilson of Sullivan; brothers, Melvin and wife Kathy McMeekan of Altona, Duane and wife Rhonda McMeekan of Woodhull and Neal and wife Linda McMeekan of East Peoria; sister, Gertrude and husband William Pheiffer of Gerlaw; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded by her father, three sons and one daughter.

Albert Creek
Services for Albert Edward Creek, 81, of Bethany were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial, with military rites, was in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
He died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Albert was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Gilmore and Gertrude Lee Creek. He married Helen E. Carlyle June 18, 1955 in Bellwood. He was retired from the American Can Co. in Chicago, and he was in the Army during World War II. He was a member of R.S.V.P. of Sullivan for 11 years.
Surviving are his wife Helen; son, Jack Creek and wife Lori of Sullivan; daughter, Marsha Creek Strohl and husband Brian of Decatur; grandchildren, Jaclyn, Cheyenne and Sierra Creek; brother, Thomas Creek of Louisville, Ky.; sisters Pearl Richardson of Franklin, Ky.; half sister Ruth Ann Watkins of Auburon, Ky.; and stepsister, Lucille of Auburon, Ky.
He was preceded by his parents, brothers and sisters. Special thanks to Dr. Bailey, Dr. Dust and staff of the Intensive Care Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Eugene Denham
F. Eugene Denham, 81, of Windsor died at 2 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2003 in his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight (Wednesday). Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery.
Mr. Denham was born April 7, 1922 in Coles County, the son of F.P. and Cora Sutton Denham. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Assn. and Shelby County Farm Bureau. He was a farmer, formerly owned and operated Denham Oil Co. in Windsor and drove a school bus for the Windsor Community Unit Schools. He bred and trained harness race horses. He married Mary Frances Deckard March 22, 1941 in Decatur, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Ronald Denham of Olney, Roger Denham and Rodney Denham and wife Connie, all of Strasburg, and Randall Denham and wife Peggy of Windsor; daughter, Ruth Barrett and husband Dale of Rosebush, Mich.; grandchildren, Christine Matlock and husband James of Shelbyville, Ryan Denham of Strasburg and Corie Barrett and Kurtis Barrett, both of Rosebush; and great-grandchildren, Alex Matlock, Morgan Matlock and Evan Matlock, all of Shelbyville; brothers, Gerald Denham and wife Vera of Sullivan and Richard Denham and wife Betty of Martinsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Glenice Ruth Denham; and grandson, Christopher Eugene Denham.

Helen Phelps
Mrs. Raymond (Helen L. Schoonover) Phelps, 90, of Sullivan died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2003 in the Sullivan Health Care Center in Sullivan.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003 in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with visitation one hour before the service in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Helen was born Oct. 4, 1912 in Moultrie County, the daughter of Charles and Rachel Waggoner Schoonover. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Sullivan, Crystal Chapter OES #39, Ellabelle #25, Rebekah Lodge #167, all of Sullivan, and the White Shrine of Shelbyville. She married Raymond Phelps March 2, 1932 in Sullivan, and he died June 27, 1973.
She is survived by great-nieces, Cheryl Ray of Sullivan, Mika McCall of Shelbyvile, and great-nephews, Charles Lyle and Greg Schoonover, both of Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
