Russell Drew
Russell Drew, 80, of Springfield died June 27, 2003 in Springfield.
No services were held for the former Sullivan resident.
Born Sept. 20, 1922 in Sullivan, he was the son of Jeff and Bertha Vogel Drew. He was a retired prison guard for the state of Illinois and was a member of the Highway Church of Christ in Sullivan.
He is survived by a sister, Alice Hancock of Decatur.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Memorials to the Highway Church of Christ are suggested.
William Goetz
Services for William A. Goetz, 83, of Bethany were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial, with military rites, was in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery.
He died at 5:18 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in the Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur.
Born Nov. 6, 1919 in Bethany, he was the son of Edward and Lillis Bone Goetz. He married Marna R. Crockett May 30, 1946 in Decatur, and she died in 1986.
Survivors include his daughter Billie Sue Goetz of Decatur; brother, George Goetz of Bethany; and sister, Maurine Hickenbottom of Bethany and Jane Griffith of Moses Lake, Wash.
One brother preceded him in death.

Robert Leach
Services for Robert M. Leach, 83, of Urbana were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. A graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Keller Cemetery in Lovington.
He died at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in Urbana.
Born Jan. 24, 1920 in Lovington, he was the son of James and Lois Porter Leach. He was a watchmaker and owned Bob Leach Jewelry in Urbana. He was a member of the University Place Christian Church in Champaign and served as president and director of the American Watchmaker Institute. He married Virginia P. Kennedy Dec. 24, 1942 in Champaign, and she died Dec. 30, 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Leeb of Chicago and Janice Martoglio of Winchester, Ky.; brother, James Leach of Decatur; sisters, Ellen Williams of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Memorials to the American Red Cross or March of Dimes are suggested.
Oliver Luetscher Jr.
Oliver P. Luetscher Jr. of Sullivan died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 in the Illinois Masonic Home in Sullivan.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Illinois Masonic Home with visitation one hour prior to the services with the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements.
Born in 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of Illinois. He held subsequent engineering jobs throughout America, but most of his professional career was spent in Illinois and Wisconsin. His business and professional activities included membership in the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers, Rotary International, the Wisconsin Assn. of Contractors and the Chicago Engineering Club. He was a life member of the Valley of Jacksonville, Fla. Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry where he attained the 32nd degree, was a member of the Shrine Zor Temple in Madison, Wis. and a member of Princeton Lodge #587 in Princeton for more than 67 years. He was also active with the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude of Sullivan; daughter, Priscilla Luetscher-Dean of Charleston; sons, Oliver and William, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters, Betty Flaig of St. Louis, Mo. and Adele Hauessler of San Mateo, Cal.
One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Memorials to the Illinois Masonic Home are suggested.
Dorothy Buxton
Dorothy M. Buxton, 73, of Phoenix, Ariz. died July 4, 2003 in her home.
A graveside memorial service for the former Sullivan resident will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements.
She was born March 13, 1929 in Sullivan to Junnetta Clark Buxton and Bonnie Buxton.
Survivors include two half-sisters, Marilyn K. Larson and Violet Buxton, both of California; two half-brothers, Marvin L. Buxton of Phoenix, Ariz. and Leroy Buxton of Denver, Col.; aunts, Betty Warner and Bernadine Clark, both of Decatur, Joy Vaughan of Taylorville and Ina Buxton of Sullivan; one uncle, Chas (Bud) Clark and wife Gloria of Decatur; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George F. Buxton; and grandparents, Charles and Ethel Clark.
Mrs. Cletus Reed
Funeral services for Mrs. Cletus (Virginia Ruth Lee) Reed, 83, of Sullivan were held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
She died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 in the Sullivan Health Care Center.
Virginia was born Feb. 21, 1920 in Clinton County, the daughter of Walter G. and Elizabeth Meinkoth Lee. She married Cletus L. Reed March 19, 1944 in Mattoon. Virginia was an avid sports fan, an excellent softball player, bowler, bridge player and championship golfer at the Sullivan Country Club for many years. She was a member of the Sullivan First Christian Church, a member of the Naomi Women’s Fellowship and a former Sunday school teacher, had worked as a hairdresser for Eastview Manor Nursing Home in Sullivan and also for area funeral homes.
Surviving are her husband, Cletus of Sullivan; daughter, Mrs. Sheldon (Melanie) Long; grandchidren, Mrs. Creg (Carrie) Pierson, Blaine Long and Holly Long; great-grandchildren, Sydney Long-Mendenall, Andrew and Reed Pierson, all of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Samuel Allen
Samuel G. Allen, 48, of Sullivan died Sunday, July 27, 2003 in the Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Sullivan American Legion in Sullivan with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Born April 5, 1955 in Watseka, he was a son of Elmer and Kay Hixson Allen. He was the scout master of Boy Scout Troop #39 in Sullivan, attained the Vigil Level of the Order of the Arrow and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #68 in Sullivan. He married Paula Craig May 15, 1976 in Monticello, and she survives.
Other survivors include his father; sons, Nicholas L. and Benjamin C. Allen, both of Sullivan; daughter, Jennifer M. Allen of Monticello; brothers, Steve Allen of Sherman, Stan Allen of Florida and Sid Allen of Milford; and sister, Susan Swartz of Urbana.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Dean Baird
A memorial service for Dean R. Baird, 70, of Ashland, Ohio was held at 7 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) in the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland with the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home in Ashland in charge of arrangements.
The former Sullivan resident died Sunday evening July 27, 2003.
Baird worked in accounting for many years with several companies including Price Waterhouse and the Limited Stores. He then moved into management and enjoyed more than 20 years at various stations within White Consolidated Industries, retiring in 1992 as the president of their Cabinet Division in Richmond, Ind. He was also consulted by Merrilat Cabinets for the factory expansion in Loudonville, Ohio, and he served on the board of directors of the National Kitchen Cabinet Assn.
Survivors include his wife, Martha; daughter, Susan; son, Richard; sisters; and one granddaughter.
