Graveside services for Imogene Griffin, 73, of Arcola were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Hammond Cemetery with the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola in charge of arrangements.
The former Lovington resident died at 11:04 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.
Born March 19, 1929 in Decatur, she was the daughter of Earl and Gladys Bandy Griffin. She was a member of the Hammond Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Roger Griffin of Bridgeton, Mo. and sisters, Marjorie Taylor of Arcola and Joyce Noffke of Champaign.
Jerry Montague Jr.
Graveside services for Jerald N. Montague Jr., 45, of Mattoon were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in rural Mattoon with the Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon in charge of arrangements.
He died at 8:52 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2002 in his home.
Born Dec. 10, 1956 in Mattoon, he was a son of Jerald N. and Lola M. Jenkins Montague Sr. He was formerly employed with Gullion Sanitation for 16 years.
Survivors include a son, Jeremy C. Montague of Venice, Fla.; daughter, Crystal M. Montague of Mattoon; stepdaughter, Amanda M. McClain of Mattoon; his mother and stepfather, Lola N. and Morris D. Rogers of Mattoon; brother, Frank D. Montague of Mattoon; sisters, Pamela Sue Flick of Mattoon, Connie Marie Wiles of Sullivan and Ramona J. Chaney of Allenville; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
‘Popeye’ Parker
Services for Leonard "Popeye" Parker, 64, of Congress, Ariz. were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Mt. Hope Assembly of God Church in Wickenburg, Ariz. Burial was in the Congress Cemetery with the Frey Funeral Home in Wickenburg in charge of arrangements.
The former Mattoon resident died July 11, 2002 in Congress from injuries suffered in an auto accident.
Born in Sullivan, he worked for Meadow Gold in Mattoon and Champaign and later as a welder and at a dairy processing plant. He moved to Estes Park, Col. in 1988 and started his own business. He was a member of the Mt. Hope Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; son, Michael Parker of Wickenburg; daughters, Michelle Shriver of Prescott, Ariz., Melissa Crouse of Stewartsville, N.J. and Mandy Quinby of Estes Park; stepsons, Tony Lamon of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Matthew Lamon of Ellicott City, S.D.; brother, Mel Parker; sisters, Sue Parsons, Margaret Hirth and Cleo Nash; and ten grandchildren.
Alma Woolridge
Services for Mrs. Roy (Alma Melvina Ray) Woolridge, 89, of Lovington were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington. Burial was in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington.
She died at 2:42 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002 in the Atria Assisted Living Center in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Born Dec. 2, 1912 in Lovington, she was the daughter of James and Oda Selby Ray. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lovington and past president of the Lovington American Legion Auxiliary. She married Roy Woolridge May 14, 1932, and he died Jan. 21, 1988.
Survivors include a son, John Woolridge of Lovington; daughter, Louise Davis of Elizabethtown, Ky.; brother, Ernest Ray of Bullhead City, Ariz.; sisters, Gussie Clemits of Bullhead City and Marie Payne of Bethany; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One son, four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Memorials to the donor’s choice are suggested.
Opal French
Services for Opal Marie French, 87, of Oak Island, N.C. were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating. Interment will be in the French Cemetery in Allenville.
The former Sullivan resident died Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Alterra Clairbridge in Wilmington, N.C.
Mrs. French was born Oct. 15, 1915 in Shelby County, the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Ramsey Keller and moved to Brunswick County, N.C. in 1999. Mrs. French was a member of the First Christian Church in Allenville, a member of the Moultrie County Historical Society and a member of DAR. Mrs. French was proficient in painting china.
Survivors include her son, Keith French and wife Sara of Oak Island; sister, Jetta Mueller of Montana; and a grandchild, Monte French of San Antonio, Texas.
Mrs. French was preceded in death by her husband, Olaf French; a daughter, Nancy French; four sisters; and four brothers.
John Hoots
Services for John Robert Hoots, 56, of Bethany were held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Bethany. Burial was in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany with arrangements by the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany.
He died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2003 in his home.
John Robert Hoots was born Nov. 22, 1946 in Decatur, the son of Robert E. and Margaret J. Davis Hoots. John was an identical twin. He graduated from Lakeview High School. He was retired from the shipping department at Firestone in Decatur. John was the owner of Hoots Auto and Marine in Bethany. He followed NASCAR and loved his old Corvette and his two jet racing boats. He was an avid scuba diver who loved to dive anywhere around Florida. John knew about our Lord Jesus. He married Connie Stinnett Sept. 25, 1975 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife, Connie; sons, John R. Hoots (Sandy) of Liberty, S.C. and Tony Hoots (Jill) of St. Michael, Minn.; daughter, Joanie Watson (Mark) of Mt. Zion; grandsons, Sean and Joshua Hoots of Liberty, S.C. and Jake of Mt. Zion; granddaughters, Shelby and Bradi of Mt. Zion; brothers, Jerry Hoots (Sally) of Bethany, Jesse Hoots (Debby) of Lovington, Steve Hoots (Karen) of Pana and David Hoots of New Braunfels, Texas; sister, Terry Stinnett (John) of New Braunfels, Texas; and special nephews, Max Hoots of Lovington and Jeff Hoots (Alice) of New Port Richey, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle.
Memorials to the Abundant Life Assembly of God in Bethany are suggested.
Terry Klingel
Terry Ray Klingel, 56, of Sullivan died at 10:46 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003 in his home.
Cremation rites were accorded, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date with arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Terry was born Nov. 5, 1946 in Alton, the son of Gerald and Doris Klingel. He was a 1964 graduate of Edwardsville High School, attended SIU in Carbondale and Edwardsville and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for the Louis Marsh Co. in Morrisonville prior to moving to Sullivan in 1975. He then went to work for the Earl Walker Co. In 1990, he sold his interest in the Earl Walker Co. and went to work as a registered representative for the Prudential Insurance Co. In 1993 he founded the Moultrie Insurance Agency where he remained active until his death. He was the owner of Klingel Enterprises in Sullivan. Terry was an avid golfer and fisherman and was a member of the Sullivan Country Club. He married Darlene Williams Sept. 18, 1971 in Edwardsville, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Andrea Lilly and her husband Dan of St. Joseph; son, Tyler Klingel at home; grandchildren, Brianna and Matthew Lilly of St. Joseph; brother, Stephen Klingel of Edwardsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sheri.

Lou Ann Pierce
Services for Mrs. Robert (Lou Ann Logan) Pierce, 62, of Sullivan were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in the Windsor Cemetery in Windsor.
She died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Lou Ann was born Oct. 17, 1940 in Carmi, the daughter of George B. and Anna Faye Belangee Logan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and O.E.S. Crystal Chapter #39, both in Sullivan. She married Robert Pierce Oct. 4, 1958 in Caborn, Ind., and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother; daughters, Rebecca Ann and husband Charles Thompson and Vanessa Jane and husband Gene Cook, all of Windsor; grandsons, Michael and David Thompson and Jason Cook; granddaughter, Maria Cook; great-grandson, Tyler Thomspon; brothers, Harry Logan of Mt. Vernon, Ind. and John Logan of Gainesville, Fla.; and sister, Thelma Pruitt of New Harmony, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Anita.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in Sullivan are suggested.
