Vena Donaldson
Vena M. Donaldson, 62, of Champaign died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 in the Eastview Terrace Nursing Home in Sullivan.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Atwood with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Lake Fork Cemetery in rural Atwood.
Born July 31, 1940 in Tuscola, she was the daughter of June Lane and Marjorie Nella Birch Fortune. She was a former outreach worker for the Prairie Center in Champaign, was a member of the Northside Church of Christ and a former member of the AA group.
Survivors include sons, Gordon Wilson of Urbana and Brian Donaldson of Champaign; daughters, Debbie Nicholson and June Donaldson, both of Sullivan; brother, Myron "Bud" Fortune of St. Joseph; sister, Vera Capps of Georgiana, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Taylor Sr.
Services for Robert Eugene Taylor Sr., 60, of Lake City were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington. Burial, with military rites was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
He died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born Aug. 29, 1942 in Douglas County, he was the son of Roy Lee and Consuelo Cook Taylor. He was a draftsman and worked at PPG Works 14 in Mt. Zion. He was a member of the Revival Church in Lovington, was a Boy Scout leader for 13 years and went through classes to be a pastor. He married Diann M. Fultz June 19, 1991 in Decatur, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert Taylor Jr. of Arthur; daughters, Judith Arnett of Pierson and Michelle Benton of Decatur; brother, Roy Mitchell Taylor of Sullivan; sisters, Mary L. Schupp and Madonna Meador, both of Florida; and three grandchildren.
Memorials to the family are suggested.

Truman Traxler
Services for Truman Dale Traxler, 86, of Arthur were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Atwood. Burial was in the Mackville Cemetery in Atwood.
The former Atwood resident died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born April 4, 1916 in Springfield, he was the son of Ollie Lloyd and Violet Sylvia Gentry Traxler. He retired in 1982 as a shift supervisor from the USI Chemical Co. in Tuscola after 30 years of service, then operated Traxler Landscaping. He was a 1935 graduate of Hammond High School and was a former member of the Atwood Village Board. He served as head elder of the Atwood Christian Church for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atwood, Atwood Masonic Lodge #651 AF & AM and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He married Dorothy Mae Shonkwiler June 27, 1936 in Atwood, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Dale Dwayne Traxler of Bloomington and David Owen Traxler of Atwood; daughter, Diana Lynn Sellers of Atwood; brother, Darrell Traxler of Arthur; sisters, Virginia Hill of Arthur and Evelyn Pelican of Arcola; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one step grandchild; and two step great-grandchildren.
Three brothers preceded him in death.
Memorials to the First Baptist Church of Atwood or the Sullivan Health Care Center are suggested.

Mike Brandenburger
Funeral services for the Rev. Mike Brandenburger, 56, of Sullivan were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
He died at 9:35 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 in his residence.
Mike was born April 30, 1946 in Decatur, the son of Byron and Alta Elder Brandenburger. He was a member of the Sullivan First Christian Church, past master and past secretary of George A. Sentel Lodge #764 AF & AM, Gil W. Barnard Commandery No. 74 and was past president of the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce. He owned and operated the Sullivan Printers which has been the family business in Sullivan since 1919, was chaplain at the Illinois Masonic Home in Sullivan, minister for the First Presbyterian Church and was associated with "My Garden" greenhouse in Sullivan. He was a graduate of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. and the Missouri School of Religion in Columbia, Mo. He married Virginia Burke Dec. 28, 1968 in Canton, Mo.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia of Sullivan; daughter, Mrs. Joe (Jill) Doyle of Sullivan; sister, Mrs. Jack (Diane) Weaver of Sullivan; grandchildren, Kelsey and Branden Doyle of Sullivan; nephew, Dean Weaver of Sanford, Fla.; and niece, Marcy Weaver of Bloomington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert, and a sister, Carol Sue Brandenburger.
Memorials are suggested to the Sullivan Fire and Ambulance Service or the American Heart Assn.

Judith Maples
Judith Ann Quick Maples, 54, of Richmond, Ind. died of metastatic colon cancer Monday, August 5, 2002 in her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002 in the Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan with Rick Hector officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington.
Judy was born June 22, 1948 in Bruce to Harold and Lula Garmon. She married Robert Quick Nov. 4, 1967 in Lovington. They, and their daughters were very active members of the First Baptist Church of Lovington, and Judy was a well-loved beautician who managed her own beauty shop for many years. After becoming widowed, Judy married Pastor John S. Maples March 19, 1989 in Lovington. She joyously served with her husband to minister to the people of her congregation and community in Sullivan, Springfield, McMinnville, Ore., and since 1998, the Central Baptist Church in Richmond, Ind., where her special focus was on preschool ministry and education.
She is survived by her husband, John S. Maples; two children, Angie Quick and Lana Hayes, both of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepchildren, Emily Maples of Arlington, Texas and Johnny Maples of Hurst, Texas; her mother, Lula Garmon of Lovington; three brothers, Harold, Dale and Dennis Garmon, all of Lovington; one sister, Cathy Thomas of Decatur; and brother-in-law, Fred Quick.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Quick, her father, Harold Garmon, and her sister, Patty Garmon.
Memorial contributions may be made to: The Judy Maples Memorial Preschool Fund at Central Baptist Church, 1620 Chester Boulevard, Richmond, IN 47374.

Georgia Ballard
Services for Mrs. Lloyd (Georgia A. Erhardt) Ballard, 84, of Arthur were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Arthur United Methodist Church with the Shrader Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Arthur Cemetery.
She died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born Jan. 26, 1918 in Moultrie County, she was the daughter of George and Maude Ashhurst Erhardt. She worked at the Illinois Consolidated Telephone co. as a fraud investigator for 20 years and was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church and the Business and Professional Women’s Assn. She was a volunteer at the Arthur Home. She married Lloyd Francis Ballard in 1941 in St. Louis, and he died Jan. 25, 1962.
Survivors include her son, Francis Ballard of Jacksonville, Fla., and two grandchildren.

John Colclasure
John E. Colclasure Jr., 50, formerly of Sullivan, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 in Waverly, Va. after an extended illness.
He is survived by his father, John E. Colclasure of Newton; mother, Joan Welch Colclasure of Crestview, Fla.; daughter, Melissa Colclasure of Washington D.C.; and brothers, Stephen Colclasure of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Pete Colclasure of Crestview, Fla.
The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.

‘Winnie’ Johnson
Services for Mrs. Kenneth (Winona "Winnie" Mae Cooley) Johnson, 76, of Effingham were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Christian Church in Effingham with the Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Oakridge Cemetery in Effingham.
She died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 in the Sunbridge Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 5, 1926 in Decatur, she was a daughter of Earl and Lucy Dolan Cooley. She was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church, St. Anthony Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the FISH Organization, all in Effingham.
She married Dr. Dean Moran, and he died. She married Kenneth Malcolm Johnson in 1973, and he died in 2002.
Survivors include a son, Dean Moran of Pekin; daughters, Becky Rhodes, Jill Kreke and Judy Bergfeld, all of Effingham; stepdaughters, Rena Franklin of Lovington, Irene Meadows of Pana, Carla McFarland of Leavenworth, Wash. and Loretta James of North Pole, Alaska; stepsons, Lloyd Johnson of Mattoon and Larry Johnson of Sullivan; foster son, Doug Althoff of Effingham; foster daughter, Denise Lovelady of Hill City, Kan.; sister, Ermell Fischer of Bloomington; ten grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One brother preceded her in death.
