Vernon McFarland
Services for Vernon Eugene McFarland, 39, of Lebanon, Ind. were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Grace Baptist Church in Lebanon. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon with the Myers Mortuary in Lebanon in charge of arrangements.
The former Sullivan resident died of natural causes at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003 in his home following a brief illness.
Mr. McFarland was born Aug. 29, 1963 in Rock Island, the son of the late Vernon Franklin and Carolyn Iolene Gorrell McFarland of Sullivan. He was reared and educated in Sullivan, and he graduated from Sullivan High School in 1981. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he studied engineering mechanics and materials as well as math. He received his B.S. degree in December 1985. He later attended Purdue University where he received an M.S. degree in mechanical engineering. He had been employed in Indianapolis, Ind. at the Rolls-Royce Corp., formerly Allison Gas Turbine, since 1986 where he managed programs for the development of commercial and military jet engines. He married Dawn Kay Back July 11, 1987 in Greencastle, Ind., and he had been a devoted husband and church member. He and his wife were youth leaders and deacons.
Survivors include his wife of Lebanon; mother, Carolyn I. McFarland of Sullivan; sister, Mrs. Paul (Michele K.) Harshbarger of Arcola; and brothers, Jeffrey L. McFarland of Worden and Ricky D. McFarland of Sullivan.
Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Church in Lebanon.
Dean Howard
C. Dean Howard, 62, of Sullivan died at 12:02 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Born Nov. 20, 1940, he was the son of Sherwood “Bud” and Wilma E. Chambers Howard. He was a retired railroad conductor for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad and was a member of the Moultrie County Bass Club, Lovington Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #68 and the First Christian Church. He married Joyce E. Jackson April 14, 1962 in Lovington, and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother; sons, Toby Howard of Bethany and Jeff Howard of Windsor; daughters, Tracey Allison of Moweaqua and Jodi Hughes of Sullivan; sister, Sherry Emerson of Mahomet; and seven grandchildren.
His father and one brother preceded him in death.
Memorials in care of the family are suggested.
Mrs. James Meadows
Services for Mrs. James (Pauline Elizabeth Adkins) Meadows, 83, of Scottsville, Ky. were held Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington. Burial was in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington.
The former Lovington resident died June 12, 2003 in the Scottsville Medical Center in Scottsville.
Born April 6, 1920 in Lovington, she was the daughter of Frank and Jane Benton Adkins. She married James Meadows Jan. 24, 1948 in Kentucky, and he survives.
Other survivors include sons, Thomp, Terry and Tim Meadows, all of Scottville; stepdaughter, Carole Meadows of Gardena, Cal.; brother, Jim Adkins of Decatur; sisters, Emily Gamel of Helena, Ala. and Mrs. Don (Myrtle) Reedy of Sullivan; and three grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Carlin Wright
Services for Carlin Blee Wright, 38, of Watertown, Tenn. were held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial was in the Jennings Cemetery.
He died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 in the University Medical Center in Lebanon, Tenn. as the result of injuries suffered in an auto accident.
Born Sept. 12, 1964 in Anchorage, Alaska, he was the son of Carlin Revilo and Margaret Lillian Watkins Wright. He was employed by Manpower, Inc. He married Gayle Adams, and she survives.
Other survivors include his children, Mrs. Jonathan (Rhonda) Webb and Tommy Adams, both of Old Hickory, Tenn., Bonnie Rayburn of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Kerry Rayburn of Madison, Tenn., Crystal Hasty of Nashville, Tenn. Charles Hasty of Mattoon and Tammie Adams of Sullivan; sister, Ramona Harris of Cowden; brother, Curtis Wright of Mattoon; half brother, William Weybright of Sullivan; and eight grandchildren.
His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
‘Pat’ Young
Services for Mrs. John (Patricia “Pat”) Young, 77, of Mattoon were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Palm Terrace Nursing Home Chapel in Mattoon. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cooks Mills with arrangements by the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan.
She died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003 in Palm Terrace.
Born Jan. 27, 1926, she married John Russell Young, and he preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1972.
Survivors include sons, John Tony of Trenton, Fla. and Ricky James of Peoria; daughter, Patty of Mattoon; and one grandchild.
Ruby Beauchamp
Ruby Beauchamp, 87, of Hammond died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2003 in the Arthur Home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003 in the Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur. Pastor Leonard Moore of the Jonathan Creek Christian Church of Sullivan will be presiding over the service. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cooks Mills. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Ruby was born April 26, 1916 in Hunt City, Jasper County, Ill., one of eight children born to Frank and Fairy O’Dell Miller. She married Robert E. Beauchamp, a farmer from Cooks Mills on Aug. 7, 1937 in Terre Haute, Ind. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1967.
She is survived by three sons, Bob Beauchamp and wife Carol of Glasgow, Ky., Ed Beauchamp and wife Donna of Lake City and Rick Beauchamp and wife Karen of Hammond; one daughter, Jane Holmes Flexser and husband Bill of Effingham; one brother, Jim Miller of East Alton; and two sisters, Mabel Grizzel of Alton and Dixie Cobb of Branson, Mo. She was blessed to have 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Beauchamp; brothers, Carl and Aden Miller; and sisters, Fern Leach and Bonnie Adams.
Ruby was a homemaker and loved to quilt. She made quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to garden and crochet. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cooks Mills.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
William Collins
William L. Collins, 70, of Sullivan died at 6:48 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
There will be no funeral services or visitation.
William was born Feb. 11, 1933 in Hornell, N.Y., the son of Allen and Mary Collins. He married Maxine A. Harlin in 1954 in Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; daughters, Melody Collins of Lake City, Fla., Sheila Collins of Sullivan and Rhonda Eiskant of Windsor; brothers, John Keagle of Massachusetts and Jimmy Simpson and Bert Simpson, both of New York; sisters, Stella Simpson, Sharon Simpson and Martha Clark, all of New York; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother and one sister.
Memorials in care of the family are suggested.
Patricia Freeman
Patricia A. Freeman, 60, of Lovington passed away at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Decatur with her family at her side.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial will be in the Monticello Cemetery.
Patricia was born Nov. 5, 1942 in Owensville, Ind., the daughter of Harry Andrew and Genreva Oakley Bennett. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Eagles Club in Mattoon.
She is survived by her sons, Robert E. Freeman and wife Kim and Rodney L. Freeman and wife Shelly, all of Sullivan; grandchildren, Austin, Andrew and Shelby Ann Freeman, all of Sullivan; brothers, Harry Lee Bennett of East Point, Ky., Gerald “Butch” Bennett of Nashville, Tenn. and Larry “Doc” Bennett of Springburg, Ohio; and sister, Carol Decrevel of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She will be missed by her friends at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home.
