Jean Kenton
Mrs. ‘Sam’ (Jean Burnett) Kenton, 72, of Sullivan died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. There will be no visitation.
Born Sept. 12, 1930 in Sullivan, she was the daughter of Turner L. and Gladys Thompson Burnett. She had been the activity and social services director for the Douglas Nursing Center in Mattoon, activity, social services and special projects director for the Sullivan Health Care Center in Sullivan and a member of the Jonathan Creek Church in Sullivan. She married Arthur S. “Sam” Kenton Dec. 5, 1948 in Charleston, and he died Aug. 21, 2000.
Survivors include her son, Jack L. Kenton of Sullivan; daughter, Nancy R. Kenton of Dalton City; and four granddaughters.
Memorials to the Sullivan Ambulance Service are suggested.
John Myers
Graveside services for John Denton Myers, 74, of Windsor were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Windsor Cemetery with the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor in charge of arrangements.
He died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003 in Cadwell.
Born Jan. 8, 1929 in Moultrie County, he was the son of Pearl William and Susan Garnett Fleming Myers. He was a retired auto mechanic who worked in both Sullivan and Windsor. He was a veteran of World War II. He married Virginia L. Arnold June 26, 1953, and she died April 12, 1983.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Elmo Myers of Windsor, and sisters, Katherine Bouck, Donnabelle Frazier and Rose Leavitt, all of Sullivan.
One brother preceded him in death.
Memorials to the family are suggested.
‘Gene’ Smith
Services for Allen E. “Gene” Smith, 69, of Dalton City were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
He died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born Oct. 18, 1933 in Dalton City, he was the son of William R. and Goldie Lindley Smith. He retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 35 years of service, and he served in the Army and was a Korean War veteran. He had been a volunteer firefighter for the Dora Twp. Fire Dept., had served on the Dalton City Village Board and had belonged to UAW Local 751. He was affiliated with the Dalton City Christian Church. He married Beverly S. Brackett June 21, 1964, and she survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Diane Smith of Schaumburg and Kim Smith of Elgin; brothers, William L. “Bill” Smith of Dalton City and F.D. Smith of Long Creek.

Aimee Lowe
Mrs. Clark (Aimee Lilian Claytor) Lowe, 90, of Perry, Mo. died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003 in the Twin Haven Nursing Home in Perry.
Services for the former Sullivan resident will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
She was born July 29, 1912 in Butte, N.M., the daughter of Hiram and Martha Copeland Claytor. She was adopted by William and Iva Cutler in Stewardson in 1914. She married Vernie Doehring in 1931, and he preceded her in death in 1946. She then married Clark Lowe in 1952, and he preceded her in death in 1971.
Surviving are her son, Maurice Doehring of Buffalo, Mo.; daughters, Jayne Robinson of Laddonia, Mo., Iva Paris of Belmont, N.Y., Louise Bottrell of Walker, Minn., Linda Beavers of Texas and Virginia Bolin of Mattoon; sister, Iris Metzner of Altamont; son-in-law, Roy Winings of Bethany; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one daughter, Mary, and three sisters.
Dorothy Agan
Services for Dorothy M. Lancaster Agan, 83, of Raymond were held at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Hough Funeral Home in Raymond. Burial was in the Asbury Cemetery in Raymond.
She died Sunday, April 20, 2003 in the Hillsboro Area Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1919 in Bethany, she was the daughter of Robert and Cora Troutman Lancaster. She graduated from Bethany High School and was a clerk at Kroger for more than 25 years. She was a member and union steward for Retail Clerks International Union Local 25 of Lafayette, Ind. She married Ray Agan, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, William Holmes of Toledo, Ohio; daughters, Shirley Israel of Fenton, Mich. and Avis Chapman of Boston; brother, Wilbur Lancaster of Bethany; sister, Mildred Pinkston of Raymond; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Sylvia Camp
Sylvia Sterline Camp, 79, of Sullivan died at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday), April 23, 2003 in her home.
Arrangements are incomplete in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Jimmy Hill
Jimmy Hill, 46, of Conway, S.C. died Sunday, April 20, 2003 in the Conway Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Sweetwater Branch Baptist Church in Conway. Burial will be private with the Palmetto Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Born June 19, 1956 in Decatur, he was the son of the late Robert and Lulabelle Davis Hill. He was employed with Grand Strand Roofing and was a member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Hill; sons, Phillip Thevenot of Conway and B.J. Hill of Valdosta, Ga.; daughters, Mrs. William (Sherri) Logue of Conway and Angie Hill of Valdosta; sisters, Mrs. Michael (Robin) Beckham of Decatur and Mrs. William (Diane) Newton of Lovington; and five grandchildren.
One daughter and one brother preceded him in death.
John Lofland
Services for John Leroy Lofland, 98, of Sullivan were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in the Camfield Cemetery in Sullivan.
He died at 9:36 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2003 in Eastview Terrace.
Born March 7, 1905 in Fayette County, he was the son of James and Mary Elizabeth Lemons Lofland. He married Nora Buck Nov. 25, 1924 in Vandalia, and she died May 29, 1993.
Survivors include a son, John Lofland of Lovington; daughters, Norma Jean Davis, Georgia Alberta Redford, Mary Elizabeth Willoughby and Sharon Rosalee Armer, all of Sullivan, Juanita Delores Handford of Long Beach, Cal. and Barbara Ann Decker of Findlay; brother, Orville Lofland of Decatur; 40 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Three sons, two daughters, one brother, one sister, one half brother and one half sister preceded him in death.
