Parker Wiley
Parker H. Wiley, 87, of Mattoon died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003 in the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Branchside Cemetery in Gays.
Born April 30, 1915 in Raymond, he was the son of Warren Lewis and Charlotte Louise Hilt Wiley. He was a retired traffic manager for McBride’s Express and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mattoon Rotary Club, RSVP, Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, American Legion and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. He spent three years in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a graduate of the College of Advanced Traffic and was registered to practice before the Illinois Commerce Commission. He married Helen Harris in 1949, and she died in 1967. He then married Florence May Edwards in 1973, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Edward M. Wiley of LaGrange and John F. Wiley of Berwyn; daughter, Marie Hunt of Elgin; brother, Joe M. Wiley of Sullivan; sister, June Shaw of Seattle, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
Memorials to the donor’s choice are suggested.
Louise Colclasure
Graveside funeral services for Louise Colclasure, 77, of Sullivan were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Camfield Cemetery in rural Sullivan with the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements.
She died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Louise was born Dec. 28, 1925 in Sullivan, the daughter of Walter and Hallie Decker Carnes. She had been a bookkeeper for Brown Shoe Co., a member of the Sullivan VFW, Sullivan Rhoda Rebekah Lodge and the Mattoon Eagles Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son, Darren Colclasure of Clay City; brothers, Don Carnes and his wife Joan of Sullivan, twin brothers, John Carnes and his wife Janice of Hinkley, Paul Carnes and his wife Florine of Sugar Grove and Richard Carnes and his wife Marla of Mattoon; sisters, Frances Nelson and her husband Bill of Boerne, Texas, Edna Seitz of Sullivan and Hazel Jenne and her husband Loren of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Frank Schack Jr.
Funeral services for Frank F. Schack Jr., 85, of Clay City were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 in the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City with Pastor Chuck Anthony officiating. Burial was in the Kirk Cemetery in Ina.
He died at 9:10 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 in the Flora Healthcare Center in Flora.
Born July 31, 1917 in Salem, he was the son of Frank F. Sr. and Clela Roth Schack Stowers. Frank was raised in Ina until his junior year of high school when his family moved to Sullivan where he graduated in 1935. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1940. He lettered at both schools in basketball and baseball.
He began his teaching and coaching career first in Ina and then in Wayne City. In 1944 he moved to Clay City where he taught and coached at both the high school and grade school level. He coached three undefeated teams at the grade school level. He was instrumental in starting summer recreation programs in both Clay City and Sullivan. In later years he became a teacher/coach at Flora Junior High School and was the Flora School Dist. athletic director. He was a local golf pro at the Flora Country Club for several years. After retiring from education in 1978, he was the city clerk of Clay City for two years. He was affiliated with the Clay City United Methodist Church.
The Sullivan Redskins, Fighting Illini and the Eastern Illinois Panthers were his passion. He was a past member of the EI Club board and was an avid golfer, fisherman, bird hunter and dog trainer. He also belonged to many other local organizations in the Clay City area. He served for 15 months in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He made his home in Clay City for 58 years and the last two in Flora.
He married Mildred L. “Billie” Schack Nov. 22, 1940, and she died Feb. 13, 2002 in Warrenton, Mo.
Survivors include a daughter Janet Carlock and her husband Phil of St. Louis, Mo., granddaughters, Cindy Snyder and husband Tom and Cathy Lorenz and husband Craig, all of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren, Jessica and Joshua Lorenz and Patrick Snyder, all of St. Louis; one step grandson, Matt Snyder of St. Louis; one half brother, Jimmie Stowers of Salem; special friend, Sue Turner; two nieces; one great-nephew; one great niece; and many, many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Jake Stowers and his wife.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clay City Unit 10 Trophy Case Fund, Clay City United Methodist Church Building Fund, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the St. Louis Sports Foundation’s Sports for Kids Program.
Edna Dawson
Services for Mrs. Neal (Edna I.) Dawson, 81, of Taylorville were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the First Christian Church in Blue Mound with arrangements by the Shafer Funeral Home in Taylorville. Burial was in the Hall Cemetery in Blue Mound.
She died Saturday, April 5, 2003.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville and St. Vincent Memorial Auxiliary.
Survivors include sons, David Dawson of Taylorville and Mark Dawson of Edwardsville; brother, Ernie Brown of Danville; sister, Elsie Bliler of Sullivan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and four brothers.
Memorials to the second floor of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital are suggested.
Eunice Johnson
Mrs. Floyd (Eunice L. Snider) Johnson, 78, of Decatur died at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Born July 3, 1924 in Abington, she was the daughter of Robert and Sally Young Snider. She was social service director for Woodland Nursing Center for 21 years, and she later was social service director for Crestview Nursing Home in Clinton for 15 years, retiring in August 2002. She was a member of the West Side Church of the Nazarene, American Heart Assn. and the Mt. Zion Chapter of the American Business Women. She married Floyd L. Johnson in March 1949, and he died Jan. 5, 1987.
Survivors include her children, Mrs. Emery (Virginia) Doonan of Keithsburg, Kendall Phelps of Silver Lake, Kan., Warren Johnson of Taylorville, Robert Johnson of Dalton City, Mrs. Randy (Marsha) Bolt of Farmersville, Mindy Johnson of Decatur and Floyd Johnson of St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Bill Snider of Miami, Fla.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, one daughter, one brother, two sisters and two great-grandchildren preceded her in death.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Assn. or to the donor’s choice.
William Henry
William David Henry, 81, of Springfield died Saturday, March 1, 2003 in his home in the company of his family.
Born Feb. 7, 1922 in Jacksonville, Mr. Henry was the son of Jesse Lee and Mary Cecelia Lonergan Henry. He married Ferol Vaughn Nov. 22, 1950 at Our Saviour’s Church Rectory in Jacksonville.
Mr. Henry was a graduate of Routt High School, where he was a member of the 1937 State Basketball Championship team, and he attended Illinois College on an athletic scholarship. He was a WW II U.S. Army-Air Force veteran, earning the European Theater Ribbon with one Silver and one Bronze Battle Star, two Overseas Service Bars, an Air Medal and a Distinguished Unit Badge.
Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, he flew 31 missions as a radar navigator in the 397th Bomb Group “Bridge Busters” of the 598th B-26 Martin Marauder Squadron.
He began his professional career in the insurance field in 1948 and later started W.D. Henry & Associates, an insurance agency, specializing in pension and retirement/estate planning. Professional affiliations included a charter membership in the Sangamon Valley Estate Planning Council and the Life Underwriters’ Training Council. Mr. Henry was an avid golfer and thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the game and keen instructing skills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles E. and Dr. Robert Henry, and sister, Margaret Vickery.
Survivors include wife Ferol of Springfield; three sons, Vaughn (wife, JoAnne) of Springfield, Brent (wife, Susan) of Miami, Fla. and Kelly (wife, Shelly) of Rio Vista, Texas; two daughters, Lisa Henry Wilkerson of Portland, Ore. and Julie Henry of Arlington, Va.; and one brother, J. Edwin (wife, Betty) of Portland, Ore. In addition, there are several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren through marriage, including a baby girl born just hours prior to Mr. Henry’s passing.
Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL, 62703, from 4-7 p.m. today (Wednesday), March 5. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville with Reverends Richard Chiola and Ken Venvertloh as celebrants. Following the Memorial Mass, a private burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Daniel Demaree
Daniel Davidson Demaree, 72, of Columbia, Mo. died Monday, March 3, 2003 in Columbia.
Services for the former Sullivan and Rushville resident will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the New Horizons United Methodist Church in Columbia. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Rushville City Cemetery.
Born Aug. 27, 1930 in Rushville, he was the son of Morris H. and Nelle S. Demaree. He attended a one room grade school in rural Rushville, graduated from Rushville High School and received a degree in agriculture from Western Illinois University in 1961. He was employed for some years by the Illinois Masonic Home in Sullivan and recently lived at the historic Tiger-Columns in Columbia. He was a member of the New Horizon United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include his children Gwenda Booth of Norcross, Geo., Kendall Demaree of Bellevue, Wash. and Loren Demaree of Knoxville, Tenn.; twin brother Dwight of Littleton, Ill; sister Margaret of Jefferson City, Mo; and four grandchildren. He married Darlene Penningroth in 1956, and she survives.
