Celestia VanOrmer
Mrs. Wayne (Celestia D. Wise) VanOrmer, 79, of Mattoon died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 in her home.
Services for the former Manlius resident will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Manlius with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery in Manlius.
Born July 15, 1923 in rural Manlius, she was the daughter of Andrew and Dorothy Kruse Wise. She was a homemaker. She married Wayne D. VanOrmer Dec. 8, 1946 in Sterling, and he died Dec. 25, 2000.
Survivors include a son Steven W. VanOrmer of Mattoon; brother, Neil Wise of Manlius; sisters, Mrs. Carl (Margaret) Chapple of Streator and Mrs. Mervyn (Vivian) Wilson of Walnut; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Lincolnland Hospice in Charleston.
James Clem
James Michael Clem, 56, of Mattoon died at 2:54 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gods Abundant Love Fellowship Church in Decatur with Pastor Nick Hardin officiating. Friends will be received in the church fellowship hall following the services. Arrangements are by the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.
James was born Oct. 31, 1946 in Decatur, the son of James Byron and Wilma Johnson Clem.
Surviving are his mother, Wilma Kliest of Covington, Ga.; brothers, David A. Clem of Decatur and Gary L. Clem of Sullivan; sisters, Darlene Judd of Springfield and Mary Ellen Clem of Decatur; aunts, Shirley Damery of Phoenix, Ariz. and Doris Seib of Belleflower, Cal.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Richard Reynolds Sr.
Services for Richard L. “Dick” Reynolds Sr., 64, of Windsor were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Burial was in the Windsor Cemetery.
He died at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.
Born March 26, 1938 in Moultrie County, he was the son of Edward and Elaine Sims. He was adopted by Alva and Bessie Wilson Reynolds. He was a member of the Windsor Fire Dept. and Windsor Masonic Lodge #322. He served as mayor and councilman for the city of Windsor and served as president of the Windsor Harvest Picnic Assn. He retired from Imperial Bondware in Shelbyville in February 2002. He married Betty Hobbs July 18, 1987 in Windsor, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Richard L. Reynolds Jr. and wife Dana of Windsor; stepdaughter, Donna Schenkel and husband Phil of Decatur; step grandson, John Schenkel and wife Suzie of Decatur; step granddaughter, Cindy Eybel and husband Brian of Decatur; step great-grandchildren, Jeffery and Grant Eybel and Kyle and Dylan Schenkel; and sister, Kay Langsfeld of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents and adopted parents.

Helen Berry
Services for Mrs. Albert (Helen Louise) Berry, 90, of Sullivan were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Burial was in the Kettelkamp Cemetery in Nokomis.
The former Nokomis resident died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003 in her home.
Born July 10, 1912 in Nokomis, she was the daughter of Otto Fred and Emma Elizabeth Buchholz Kettelkamp. She was a graduate of Nokomis High School and a member of the United Methodist Church. She married Albert E. Berry July 18, 1944 in Columbus, Kan., and he died Sept. 14, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Joann) Pryor of Sullivan; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Julia Bruce
Graveside services for Mrs. Duane (Julia A. Post) Bruce, 70, of Tuscola were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Tuscola in charge of arrangements.
She died at 8:27 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003 in her home.
Born March 18, 1932 in Charleston, she was the daughter of Charles and Blanche Stillions Post. She graduated in 1950 from Charleston High School and in 1954 from Eastern Illinois University. She was a retired second grade teacher, having taught at the North Ward Grade School in Tuscola for 34 years. She was a member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church. She married Duane O. Bruce May 26, 1954 in Charleston, and he died March 13, 1992.
Survivors include a son, Anthony D. Bruce of Savoy; sister, Leta Young of Sullivan; and four grandchildren.
One brother preceded her in death.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society are suggested.
Lucille Burns
Services for Mrs. Robert (Lucille Coolman) Burns, 98, of Tuscola were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home in Tuscola. Burial was in the Tuscola Cemetery.
She died at 11:43 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003 in the Tuscola Nightingale Manor Nursing Home in Tuscola.
Born April 14, 1914 in Crawfordsville, Ind., she was the daughter of Walter and Mary Eleanor Needham Coolman. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1922 and Indiana University in 1928. She did post-graduate work at Butler University, Indiana State University and Eastern Illinois University. She was admitted into the Emeritus Club of Indiana University May 6, 1978 for serving the university faithfully for 50 years. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, and in 1997 was honored for being the only surviving member of the first Theta Beta Chapter Chi Omega pledge class at IU.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught English at Urbana High School, Sullivan High School and Arcola High School. She was a member of the Tuscola Woman’s Club, serving two terms as president, and was a member of the local, state and national Retired Teachers’ associations, the Tuscola United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was the first woman to serve on the Tuscola Community Unit #301 School Board and also served in the C.U.P. Program for Douglas County for eight years. She married Dr. Robert E. Burns Aug. 3, 1938 in Springfield, and he died May 13, 1983.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Thomas W. Burns of Sacramento, Cal.; stepson, Dale Burns of Tuscola; five step grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.
One brother, one stepdaughter and one step granddaughter preceded her in death.

Donald Crowe
Services for Donald J. Crowe, 52, of Cave City, Ky. were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel in Cave City. Burial was in the Cave City Cemetery.
He died Friday, March 7, 2003 in his home following a sudden illness.
The son of McKinley and Estline Likens Crowe, he was the owner and operator of Crowe Outlet and a member of the Arcola Masonic Lodge and the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother of Arthur; sons, Jason Crowe of Park City, Ky. and Jared Crowe of Chicago; daughters, Lyndsey Crowe of Arthur and Haley Crowe of Cave City; brothers, Jim Crowe of Mattoon, David Crowe of Sullivan and Danny Crowe of Bowling Green; sisters, Neda Greathouse and Sheila Crowe, both of Arthur; stepsister, Lisa Haynes of Bowling Green; and two grandchildren.
Dorothy Dempsey
Services for Dorothy M. Dempsey, 91, of Bethany were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial was in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
She died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2003 in Eastview Terrace in Sullivan.
Born Feb. 6, 1912 in Bushton, she was the daughter of Howard and Grace A. Rankin Taylor. She was a retired bakery owner in Villa Grove and a member of the United Methodist Church and O.E.S., both in Bethany.
Survivors include her son, Jack R. Dempsey of Overland Park, Kan.; daughter, Doris J. Wheeler of Bethany; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
