Imogene Gill
Services for Imogene L. Gill, 72, of Lovington were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
She died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Born Feb. 22, 1931 in Sullivan, she was the daughter of Clyde and Pearl Bruns Wallace. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lovington. She married Floyd Williams in 1952, and he died in 2000. She was married to Thomas Gill from 1962 to 1982.
Survivors include her son, Larry Williams of Heyworth; daughter, Diana Carr of Decatur; brother, Chuck Wallace of Sullivan; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Benny Joles
Graveside services for Benny L. Joles, 71, of Sullivan were held Thursday in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with military rites by Sullivan American Legion Post #68. The Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan was in charge of arrangements.
He died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in the Eastview Terrace Nursing Home in Sullivan.
Born March 29, 1931 in Kewanee, he was the son of Richard and Ruth Prentiss Joles. He had been a construction worker. He married Shirley Ann Morgan in 1958, and she died Feb. 6, 1998.
Survivors include his children, Stephany Buelna of Tucson, Ariz., Crystal Maloney, Melanie Joles Winchester, Benny L. Joles Jr. and Lisa Joles Pulver, all of Anna; brothers, Hubert Joles of Okeechobee, Fla. and Thomas Joles of Providence, Ky.; sisters, Betty Wentworth of California, Susie Everly of Nebraska and Loraine Cooper of Steeleville; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
One son, one daughter, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
Memorials to the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society are suggested.
Ruth Moss
Services for Mrs. Clifton (Ruth Ida McIntyre) Moss, 95, of Sullivan were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the May Funeral Home in Pocahontas. Burial was in the Robinson Cemetery in Pocahontas.
The former Effingham, Greenville and Pocahontas resident died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in Eastview Terrace in Sullivan. She was a homemaker. She married Clifton Moss March 31, 1924 in Pocahontas, and he died Dec. 24, 1996.
Survivors include a son Everett Moss of Sullivan; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son and 12 brothers and sisters.
Lena Sparks
Mrs. Wayne (Lena R. Klein) Sparks, 82, of Sullivan died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the St. Columcille Catholic Church in Sullivan with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Born March 17, 1920 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of George F. and Lillian Helpingstine Klein. She was a member of St. Columcille Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the Rhoda Rebekah Lodge, all of Sullivan. She married Wayne Samuel Sparks Oct. 26, 1940 in Tompkinsville, Ky., and he died Aug. 4, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Dennis W. Sparks of Highland; daughter, Linda “Wendy” Collins of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Joe Klein of Sullivan; sisters, Dorothy Chappel and Rosetta Naab, both of Sullivan; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Nine brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.
Memorials to St. Columcille Catholic Church are suggested.
Henry Yoder
Services for Henry Yoder, 62, of Tuscola were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Laverne Hochstetler residence in Tuscola. Burial was in the Miller Cemetery.
He died Saturday, March 8, 2003.
He was a member of the Old Order Amish faith. He married Emma D. Miller, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth Yoder of Loganville, Wis., Mervin Yoder and Danny Rae Yoder, both of Pleasant Hill, Levi Yoder of Tuscola, Nelson Yoder of Vienna and Earl and Jerry Yoder, both of Vestaberg, Mich.; daughters, Ruth Ann Schrock and Alta K. Schrock, both of Vestaberg and Fannie Marie Yoder of Evansville, Wis.; brothers, Edwin J. Yoder of Arcola and Lewis J. Yoder of Lovington; sisters, Mary Schrock of Sullivan, Anna Troyer and Elnora Mullett, both of Sugar Creek, Ohio, Kathryn Yoder of Lovington and Susan Miller of Arthur; and 55 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one stillborn child, two stillborn grandchildren and two brothers.
Lucile Bobbit
Funeral services for Mrs. James (Lucile Ruth Merold) Bobbit, 91, of Dalton City were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 in the United Methodist Church in Dalton City with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Mt. Zion.
She died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 in her home.
She was born July 26, 1911 in Foosland, the daughter of John and Lena Rahn Merold. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dalton City. She married James E. Bobbit Nov. 2, 1929 in Decatur, and he preceded her in death July 15, 1990.
She is survived by her sons, Terry Bobbit and Wife Ruth of Dalton City and Lyle “Tony” Bobbit and wife Laura of Wheaton; grandchildren, Tamara Stivers and husband Wayne of Decatur, Tanya Huddleston and husband David of Dalton City, Command Sgt. Mayor Todd Bobbit and wife Bobbi of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, Kevin Bobbit and wife Nancy of Palatine, Melissa Krause and husband Steve of Sugar Grove, Joan Hudson and husband W/O Rick stationed with the U.S. Navy in Millington, Tenn., Alexandra Bobbit and Andrius Bobbit of Wheaton; and great-grandchildren, Scott Taylor, Michelle Grounds and Brian Stivers, Holly and Todd Bobbit Jr., Taylor Krause and J.T. Chad, Cody and Jessie Bobbit; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, five brothers and three sisters.

Darrell Bond
Darrell J. Bond, 73, of Bethany died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany with the Rev. Charles Witte officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight (Wednesday) with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
Darrell was born Aug. 18, 1929 in Edwards County, the son of C. Everett and Kathryn Mae Hallem Bond. He was retired from CornBelt F.S. and was the owner of Bonds Herb Farm in Bethany. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bethany, Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Hermitage Masonic Lodge #356, Ansar Shrine in Springfield and the Bethany American Legion. He married Shirley A. Poynter Dec. 3, 1954 in Mt. Carmel, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Darrell J. Bond Jr. and wife Jessie of Marseilles and Gregory Bond and wife Patti of Clive, Iowa; daughters, Janice K. Brophy and husband Harvey of Perrinton, Mich. and Dana J. Maisel and husband Kim of Bethany; brothers, Vern Bond of Mt. Vernon and Don Bond of Scottsburg, Ind.; sister, Joyce Dalton of Fairfield; special nephew, Charles Caldwell and wife Rochelle of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas E. Bond, one sister and his parents.

Robert Calvin
Robert M. Calvin, 75, of Montgomery Village, Md. died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 in the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Md.
A memorial service for the former Sullivan resident will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 in the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan. It is being coordinated by Nancy and Ray Schaljo.
Funeral services were held Jan. 28 in the Darnestown Presbyterian Church in Gaithersburg, Md. with the Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, Md. in charge of arrangements.
A native of Mt. Olive, he served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific in World War II. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1954, coached football and taught driver education in high schools in Nokomis and Sullivan and authored a widely used driver education textbook. He was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1990.
He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1972 to manage highway safety programs for the Highway Users Federation, now the American Highway Users Alliance. Working through the affiliated Automotive Safety Foundation (now the Roadway Safety Foundation), he directed several traffic safety education programs to reduce the number of highway fatalities and injuries until his retirement in 1996.
In 1989, on behalf of the Professional Truck Driver Institute of America, he wrote two commercial truck driver licensing guides to help bus and truck drivers pass the new test mandated by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986. The guides were rated “best in the field” by Heavy Duty Trucking magazine.
He also drafted textbooks, study books and videotapes for bus and truck drivers taking the commercial drivers’ license tests. Between 1991 and 1999, he produced 33 books and audios related to commercial driver licensing.
He also worked with the American Assn. of Retired Persons, The Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on programs to improve safety for older drivers and pedestrians.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, June Allen Calvin; sons, Patrick and Michael, both of Gaithersburg, Md.; daughter, Nancy of Westminister, Md.; brothers, Donald of Manhasset, N.Y. and Kenny of Mt. Olive; and three grandchildren, Bobby, Katie and Allie.
One son, Mark, preceded him in death in 1995.
