Joe Dudley
Services for Joe Davis Dudley, 77, of Bethany were held at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial with military rites was in the Hickory Hills Cemetery in Broughton.
Joe Dudley's life on this earth ended Jan. 9, 1998.
His life was given to him on Aug. 18, 1920 by Oda V. and Anna Davis Dudley. He was the youngest of seven children. His sister, Grace Reeves of Broadwell, survives.
He began sharing his life with Janet Ann Gaines on Aug. 15, 1948. Together they raised five children, Debbie at home, Tim and wife Susan of Decatur, Todd and wife Billie of Bethany, Julie Jones of Moweaqua and Jennifer Clark and husband Miles of Lincoln. His grandchildren, Tyler, Timothy, Emily, Nicole, Lynsey, Trevor and Hannah were the source of his greatest joy.
He took great pride in his work as a machinist at Caterpillar from which he retired in 1982. His artistic talents were displayed in his love of gardening and landscaping. He enjoyed many hours with his "fishing buddies," especially his son-in-law, Miles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sister and his grandson, Timmy, with whom he is undoubtedly sharing the best fishing hole in heaven.
In addition to visitation at the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan, visitation was also held in the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Memorials are suggested to the Moultrie County Beacon Special Activity Fund.

Herbert Coslow
Services for Herbert H. Coslow, 69, of Lovington were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington. Burial with military rites was in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington.
He died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 6, 1928 in Lovington, he was a son of John and Flora Robinson Coslow. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 36 years as an employee of the Natural Gas Pipeline in Hammond and was a member of the Lovington Christian Church, American Legion Post 429 in Lovington and AF&AM 228. He married Barbara Ellis June 28, 1987 in Lovington, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Annette Coslow of Lovington; stepchildren, Kevin Ellis of Hammond, Mark Ellis of Decatur, Sandra Johnston of Shelbyville and Dee Frantz of Lovington; brother, David Coslow of Sullivan; sister, Lucille Frost of Martinsville, Ind.; and ten step grandchildren.
Three brothers preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Eldrid Hassinger
Services for Eldrid E. Hassinger, 80, of Decatur were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 105.
Born May 13, 1917 in Lane, he was a son of Harry E. and Ida Ethyl Nelson Hassinger. He served in the Army during World War II and worked for A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. for more than 32 years. He married Arlene Eubanks Feb. 23, 1939 in Indiana, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Larry and Zandy, both of Decatur; daughters, Norma Hackl of Decatur and Mrs. Greg (Cindy) Peck of Bethany; brothers, Leslie Hassinger of White Heath and Orville Hassinger of Kenosha, Wis.; sisters, Alberta Bowdre of Monticello, Verna Taylor of Virginia and Elnora Spiva of Lincoln; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Six sisters preceded him in death.

Sarah Sevits
Graveside services for Mrs. Hershel (Sarah Fern Evans) Sevits, 86, of Decatur were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Macon County Memorial Park in Harristown with Brintlinger's Funeral Home in Decatur in charge of arrangements.
She died at 2 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998 in the Lincoln Manor Nursing Home in Decatur.
Born April 7, 1911 in Kirksville, Mo., she was a daughter of John L. and Martha Jane McKenzie Evans. She attended Collinsville High School for two years, was a member of the East Park Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Ladies Missionary. She married Hershel H. Sevits in 1933, and he died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Myron (Faye) Perry of Decatur; sons, Howard Sevits of Bethany; brother, Vernon Evans of Kirksville, Mo.; sister, Mae Coonfield of Kirksville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, one sister and one grandson preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials to the Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.

Dottie Shaw
Mrs. Jack (Dottie E.) Shaw, 66, of St. Petersburg, Fla. died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997 in the H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.
She retired as a residential secretary from the Woodlane Mental Retardation Center in Bowling Green, Ohio and was a member of the First Christian Church, AmVets and VFW Post 1148 in Bowling Green.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Beth Wendel of Findlay; son, Patrick of Hamilton, Ohio; two brothers; one sister; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, one brother, one sister.

Maxine Davis
Maxine Davis, 73, of Sullivan died at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 1999 in the Sullivan Living Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Mike Brandenburger officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Mrs. Davis was born July 19, 1925 in Douglas County, the daughter of Russell H. and Thelma Fifer Yaw. She was a self-employed beautician for 28 years, a charter member and first president of the Sullivan Women's Civic Club in 1970, OES Crystal Chapter #39, the Sullivan High School Alumni Assn. and Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Post #68.
Other highlights of her local involvement include co-chairing the local Sesquicennial Celebration in 1968 and the Century I (Sullivan's 100th anniversary) celebration in 1973 for which she was awarded the Sullivan Kiwanis Club civic award. She also received the Sullivan High School Alumni Assn.'s Who's Who award in 1984 and an honorary Hall of Fame award from the same association in in 1998. She also served on the Sullivan High School Advisory Council. She married Robert O. Davis Nov. 9, 1944 in Sullivan, and he preceded her in death in 1950.
Survivors include her mother, Thelma Yaw of Lovington; children, Mike Davis of Reseda, Cal., Cheri Redfern and her husband Theron of Lovington, Marjorie Horn and her husband Chester of Sullivan and Jeri Davis and his wife Ruth Ellen of Decatur.; grandchildren, Trisha VonLanken of Broken Arrow, Okla., Kelly Bork of Oakley, T.G. Redfern of Lovington, David Redfern of Romney, W.Va., Steve Davis of Colorado Springs, Col., Robert Davis of Receda, Cal., Terry Davis of Receda, Cal. and Zak Horn of Sullivan; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father, brother and one sister, Mary Catherine Shaw.
The family suggests memorials to the Sullivan High School Alumni Assn., Lincolnland Hospice or the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Cassie Reedy
Services for Cassie F. Reedy, 85, of Lovington were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the St. Isidore Catholic Church in rural Bethany with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Lovington in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the St. Isidore Cemetery.
She died at 4:53 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999 in St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
Mrs. Reedy was born Sept. 5, 1913 in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Loretta Green Maher. She was a member of the St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Moultrie County Farm Bureau, Moultrie-Douglas Home Extension and was a past board member of the Moultrie County Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She married John E. Reedy Feb. 20, 1935 in Decatur, and he died Jan. 27, 1981.
Surviving are sons, Gerald Reedy and wife Barbara of Lovington, Bernard Reedy and wife Linda of Decatur and Michael Reedy and wife Dianne of Lovington; a daughter, Kathleen Reedy of Lovington; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Reedy of Decatur. Grandchildren include Teresa Stepp and husband Tim of Palatine, Chris Reedy and wife Kathy of Pine City, Minn., Jill and Meg Reedy of Lovington, Lara Umfleet of Mt. Zion, Bret Reedy and wife Jill of Quincy and Joel, Kyle and Marissa Reedy, all of Lovington. Six great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorials are suggested to St. Isidore Catholic Church or the Lovington Ambulance Service.

Kerrie Anderson
Services for Kerrie Marie Anderson, 23, of Dalton City were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Decatur.
She died Friday, April 16, 1999 from injuries suffered in an auto accident.
Born Nov. 10, 1975 in Decatur, she was a daughter of David and Mary Carlson Anderson. She was a secretary for the accounting firm of Sleeper, Disbrow, Morrison, Tarro and Lively.
Survivors include a son, Travist Tuttle of Dalton City; parents, David and Mary Anderson of Dalton City; and grandparents, Norma Smith of Beecher City and Donald Anderson of Tower Hill.
The family suggests memorials to the Travist Tuttle Trust Fund in care of the Hight State Bank, 100 Main St., Dalton City, IL 61925.
