Paul Epling
Services for Paul G. Epling, 89, of Mt. Zion were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
He died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2002 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Born June 19,1913 in Mt. Zion, he was a son of Charles Edgar and Myrtle Greenfield Epling. He was owner of the Mt. Zion Hardware. A charter member of the Mt. Zion Lions Club, he was once named Lions Member of the Year and received a Lions Fellow award. He was a member of Dalton City American Legion Post, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, was the first water commissioner for Mt. Zion and a former assistant chief and volunteer with the Mt. Zion Fire Dept. for many years. He was a board member of the Mt. Zion Foundation, formerly assisted with funeral services for the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion and provided independent perk tests for septic systems for many area homeowners. He was a staff sergeant with the Army during World War II. He married Alta Vandiver Nov. 2, 1935 in Arcola, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Brenda A.) Niederbrach of Decatur; sisters, Mrs. Milton (Genevieve) Tabaka of Ivesdale and Ricele Maycroft of Sullivan; and brother, Caroll Epling of Lake Bluff.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Memorials to the Mt. Zion Lions Club are suggested.

Alfred Mayfield
Graveside services for Alfred Clarence Mayfield, 88, of Arthur were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Arthur Cemetery with the Shrader Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements.
He died at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born April 23, 1914 in Bethany, he was a son of George N. and Effie Randall Mayfield. He farmed, was in charge of maintenance at the Arthur Home and served as sexton of the Bourbon Lowe cemeteries for several years. He was a member of the Vine Street Christian Church. He married Edith Brown Aug. 27, 1937 in Rockville, Ind., and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Alfred Wayne Mayfield of Arthur; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
One grandson, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Memorials to the Vine Street Christian Church are suggested.

Dorothy Graven
Funeral services for Mrs. Leon (Dorothy M. Warren) Graven, 90, of Sullivan were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Dr. Garry Gromley officiating. Burial was in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
She died at 7:38 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 in the Sullivan Health Care Center.
Dorothy was born May 29, 1912 in Bethany, the daughter of Daniel Grissom and Tella Roney Warren. She worked on the family farm, was a cook for the Drumstick Restaurant in Sullivan and was a member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church. She married Leon Graven June 17, 1933 in Shelbyville, and he preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1972.
Surviving is her son, Larry Graven and his wife Susan of Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, daughter, two sisters and six brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

David Schindlbeck
David J. Schindlbeck 64, of Sullivan died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for the former Yorkville and Pontiac resident will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Dieterle Funeral Home in Aurora, Ill. with the Rev. Clyde Galow officiating. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
David was born Aug. 1, 1938 in Aurora, the son of John F. and Winifred Brengle Schindlbeck. He graduated from West Aurora High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University as well as earning a master’s degree and C.A.S. in educational administration from Northern Illinois University, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era and was involved in the NASA and Aerospace program. He was a member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church, Livingston Bass Anglers and was active in many aspects of the Boy Scouts of America. He married Lynn Schmidt Sept. 22, 1973 in Carmel, Ind.
Surviving are is wife, Lynn of Sullivan; children, Lori Strohecker and her husband Michael of Freeport, Scott Schindlbeck and his wife Heidi of Freeport, Mark Schindlbeck and Heidi Schindlbeck, both of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Patty Jones and her husband Ron of Aurora; and grandchildren, Taylor and Matthew Strohecker.
David spent his life working with children, both his own and others. He was a teacher and principal for many years, coaching swimming and diving, as well as being active in the Boy Scouts - both in the local and council levels. David had a genuine love for our youth.
Fishing played a tremendous role in David’s life. He enjoyed spending time fishing and sharing his sense of humor with his wife, children and other friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Sullivan United Methodist Church New Building Fund or the W.D. Boyce Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Peoria, Ill.

Mrs. Don Wilson
Funeral services for Mrs. Don (Janet K. Fleming) Wilson, 58, of Mt. Prospect were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Rodney Houser officiating. Burial was in the Keller Cemetery in Lovington.
The former Allenville resident died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003 in Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago.
Janet was born Oct. 8, 1944 in Allenville, the daughter of Thomas W. and Pearl Mathias Fleming. She was a homemaker and a member of the Allenville Christian Church. She married Don G. Wilson Aug. 28, 1962 in Paducah, Ky., and he survives.
Other survivors include sons, David Wayne Wilson and his wife Tammie of Carpentersville and Kevin Thomas Wilson and his wife Denise of Ingleside; mother, Pearl Fleming of Lovington; brothers, Lanny Fleming of Bethany and Tommy Fleming of Wauconda; sister, Judy Elzy of Lovington; grandsons, Joshua Wilson, Scott Wilson, David Wayne Wilson Jr. and Aidan Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; son, Don Eugene Wilson; daughter,; brother, William G. “Bill” Fleming; and grandson, William Robert Wilson.
Memorials to the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society are suggested.

Vincent Esry
Services for Vincent H. Esry, 90, of St. Joseph were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Freese Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Burial was in the Patterson Cemetery in St. Joseph.
He died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 in the Country Health Center in Gifford.
Born Oct. 21, 1912 in Bethany, he was the son of Clyde H. and Osa L. Moad Esry. He was a member of the Church of Christ in St. Joseph, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, past elder and church board member and was active with Eastern Star. He was a past board member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau, founding member of Champaign County Seed Co., a St. Joseph school board member for more than 35 years and a member of the Champaign County Grain Co. and the St. Joseph Fire Dept. He married Dorothy Widick Feb. 14, 1938 near Elwin, and she died July 14, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Whiles of Knox, Ind.; son, Lloyde Esry of St. Joseph; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One brother preceded him in death.
Memorials to the Illini Children Christian Home in St. Joseph are suggested.

Jeff Miller
Services for Jeff A. Miller, 80, of Arthur were held at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Jeff Miller family residence. Burial was in the Otto Cemetery in Arthur with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements.
He died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 in his home.
Born Jan. 27, 1922 in Arthur, he was the son of Aaron A. and Magdalena Kaufman Miller. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Faith. He married Rebecca Schrock Jan. 21, 1943 in Arthur, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Ivan Miller of Arthur and Eli Eugene Miller of Goshen, Ind.; daughters, Verna Viola Chupp, Amanda Marie Miller and Margaret Shetler, all of Arthur, and Magdalena Smith of Decatur; brother, Henry A. Miller of Cerro Gordo; sister, Susan Miller of Arthur; and seven grandchildren.
Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Lora Ray
Services for Lora May Ray, 73, of Findlay were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bethany.
The former Sullivan resident died at 1:45 P.M. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Born July 17, 1929 in Moultrie County, she was the daughter of Donno Dale and Alta Ora Harris Yarnell. She was an in-home caregiver and a former member of the Moultrie County Genealogical Society.
Survivors include daughters, Reta LeCrone of Kirksville and Balina Turnbow of Casa Grande, Ariz.; sons, Tony Lee Ray of Kirksville and Roger Ray of Sullivan; brother, Donno Yarnell of Lewisburg, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Four brothers preceded her in death.
Memorials to the family or to Peace Meals in Findlay are suggested.
