Mrs. Ervin Beachy
Mrs. Ervin (Anna E. Helmuth) Beachy, 87, of Arthur died at 7:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 in The Arthur Home in Arthur.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church in rural Arcola with visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 today (Wednesday) in the church. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery with the Shrader Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements.
Born July 9, 1912 in Douglas County, she was a daughter of Benjamin and Lizzie Schrock Helmuth. She was a member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church. She married Ervin E. Beachy Dec. 1, 1936 in Arthur, and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Dave Beachy of Arthur; brothers, Joe Helmuth of Sarasota, Fla., Noah Helmuth of Kalona, Iowa and Eli Helmuth of Hutchinson, Kan.; sister, Mattie Otto of Kokomo, Ind.; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Marvin Bromley
Graveside services for Marvin Bromley, 96, of Sullivan were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.
He died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 in the Sullivan Health Care Center.
Born June 27, 1903 in Sullivan, he was a son of Floyd and Della Bromley. He had been a clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad and was a member of the Sullivan Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two nephews.
Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mrs. ‘Bud’ Mason
Services for Mrs. Charles “Bud” (Mary Lee Bode) Mason, 74, of Taylorville were held at 2:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Edinburg First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Old Stonington Cemetery with arrangements by the Shafer Funeral Home in Taylorville.
She died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1925 in Taylorville, she was a daughter of George Fred and Freda Elizabeth Anderson Bode. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She married Charles E. “Bud” Mason Jr. of Taylorville, and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Charles “Bud” Mason III of Edinburg; daughters, Mrs. Roger (Nila Elizabeth) Sides of Stonington, Mrs. Ed (Martha) Atkins of Dalton City, Mrs. J.J. (Mary Louise) Norville of Mechanicsburg and Mrs. Larry (Jo Laine) Smith of Pana; brother, George Fred Bode Jr. of Frederick, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
One grandchild and two sisters preceded her in death.
‘Bill’ Mitchell
Services for William H. “Bill” Mitchell, 51, of Arthur were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Arthur United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Arthur Cemetery with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements.
He died at 5:52 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 in his home in Arthur.
Born June 2, 1948 in Effingham, he was the son of Lawrence Rolland and Rosie Etta Goen Mitchell. He was a farmer for Daily Farms for ten years, then worked as maintenance personnel at the Arthur Schools since 1990. He was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church, and retired from the Arthur Volunteer Fire Dept. after ten years of service. He married Cheryl Lynn Browning April 27, 1974 in Decatur, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Ronnie Mitchell of Arthur and Donnie Mitchell of Tampa, Fla.; daughters, Billie Bernius, Kim Daily and Kelly Carroll, all of Arthur; his mother of Arthur; sister, Grace Hutchcraft of Arthur; and six grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the ALS Assn. or to the Arthur United Methodist Church.
‘Buck’ Rowe
Services for Granville L. “Buck” Rowe, 81, of Windsor were held at noon Monday in the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon. Burial was in the Janesville Cemetery.
He died at 7:26 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.
Born March 12, 1918 in Hammond, Ind., he was a son of Granville Lee and Ada Mae Lawson Rowe. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Panama from 1940 to Oct. 8, 1943 when he received a medical discharge. He was a professional horse trainer and chef, retiring from the Embassy Restaurant in Arcola. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Windsor Christian Church and the Old Time Fiddler’s Assn. in Shelbyville. He married Dorothy Jackson Walter Dec. 25, 1947, and she preceded him in death. He also married Marjorie Craig Moino, and she preceded him in death. He married Awanda Shores McKibben Rietz Guy, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Randall Steven of Toledo, Dennis Michael Rowe of Hinsdale and Kevin Keith Rowe of Flower Mound, Texas; daughters, Sheila Kathleen, Rebecca Lee Moran of Allenville and Janet Louise Christian of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Rex Rowe of Momence and Richard Rowe of Mattoon; sisters, Blanche Hammerschmidt of Monticello, Beverly Vanderpooten of San Antonio, Texas and Mary Koski Burner of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
One sister and one daughter preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the Windsor Peace Meal site or the Windsor Christian Church.
Opha Wiseley
Graveside services for Opha J. Wiseley, 75, of Sullivan were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements.
He died at 10:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 in Eastview Terrace in Sullivan.
Born Feb. 28, 1924 in Kirksville, he was the son of Charles and Maggie Stainbrook Wiseley. He was retired from Borg-Warner in Decatur, attended the Christian Fellowship Church of God in Sullivan and was a World War II Army veteran. He married Betty J. Chapman Dec. 29, 1979 in Sullivan, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Ronnie of Moreno Valley,
Cal., Joe of Miraloma, Cal. and Keith of Stanton, Mich.; daughters, Terry Snow and Pat Leinweaver, both of Riverside, Cal.; stepson, Terry Phillips of Mattoon; brother, Ralph Wiseley of Sullivan; and a sister, Flossie Atteberry of Sullivan; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
The family suggests memorials to the donor’s choice.
James Neal
James L. Neal, 60, of Sullivan died at 11:43 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Glen Stewart officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight (Wednesday). Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Mr. Neal was born Oct. 23, 1939 in Shelbyville, the son of Delbert E. and Virginia Nell Underwood Neal. Mr. Neal was a department manager with the Brach Candy Factory in Sullivan. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan. He married Judith A. Buckley June 23, 1981 in Sullivan, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son Scott Neal and wife Djuana of Sullivan; stepson, Tom Buckley and wife Jennifer of Paris; daughter Marcia Hamilton and husband Rick of Sullivan; grandchildren, Hannah Neal of Sullivan and Skylar, Taylor, Austin, Hayden and Coltin Buckley, all of Paris.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard Via
Richard Via, 62, of Swansea died Sunday, May 28, 2000 in the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.
A private family service for the former Sullivan resident will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with visitation from 5 to 7 tonight (Wednesday) in the Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights.
Born Dec. 11, 1937 in Portland, Ind., he was a son of Robert and Ella Mae Ross Via. He was employed as an accountant for Royster-Clark. He married Carolyn Gegenheimer, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, David and wife Sandy of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada and Darin and wife Terri Via of Beltsville, Md.; and six grandchildren.
