Pearl Powell
Services for Pearl Marie Jones Powell, 76, of Lovington were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Arthur Southern Baptist Church with the Shrader Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Macon Cemetery in Macon.
The former Dayton, Tenn. resident died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.
Born Dec. 21, 1924 in Centralia, she was a daughter of David and Edna Ring Daughtery. She retired from ADT in Chicago as a switchboard operator. She attended the Arthur Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dwight (Alta "Nickey") Welton of Lovington; ex-husband, Rollin "Buck" Jones of Lovington; brothers, David of Davenport, Iowa, James of Galva and Ronnie of Florida; sisters, Jean Campbell and Lena Linenberger, both of New London, Mo., Sharon Leasmon of Galva, Susie Halkovic of Florida, Sarah Madson of California and Noretta O’Dell of Salem; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister preceded her in death.
Lloyd Sides
Services for Lloyd E. Sides, 73, of Forsyth were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in the Post Oak Cemetery in St. Elmo.
The former Sullivan resident died at 9:42 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 in his home.
Born April 13, 1927 in Macon County, he was a son of John and Elizabeth Burrus Sides. He was in the Army during World War II, retired from the Wagner Casting Co. and was a member of Local Union in Decatur. He married Evelyn J. Aldridge in 1954 in Sullivan, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Charles Sides of Forsyth and John Sides of Decatur; daughters, Patricia Fornwalt of Decatur and Cynthia Chapa of Baytown, Texas; sisters, Mamie Carlyle of Mt. Zion and Elaine Craig of Sullivan; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Four sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the Moultrie County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Garold Woodard
Garold C. Woodard, 91, of Shelbyville died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 in Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville with visitation from 5 to 8 tonight (Wednesday). Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Born Nov. 13, 1909 in Etna, he was the son of Grover and Nora Titus Woodard. He worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Decatur before establishing the Woodard Furniture Store in Shelbyville which he operated from 1944 to 1956. He then managed his farm near Shelbyville until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbybville and the United Methodist Men. He married Olive Mahala Short May 25, 1933, and she died July 10, 1980. He married Elnore Krummel Maxedon June 5, 1983, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Phillip Woodard of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Mrs. Richard (Judith) Parker of Villa Grove; stepsons, Tom Maxedon of Oakland, Jim Maxedon of Naples, Fla. and Bill Maxedon of Shelbyville; stepdaughter, Mrs. Gene (Nancy) Goodwin of Gays; seven grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 20 step great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville or to the Shelby Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit.
‘Jerri’ Lewis
Private family graveside services for Helen M. “Jerri” Lewis, 76, of Sullivan were held in the Camp Butler Cemetery in Riverton with the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements.
She died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001 in her home.
Mrs. Lewis was born Dec. 27, 1924 in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of Thaddeus and Elsie A. Sachs Jarzembski. Jerri was a licensed practical nurse, a member of the Sullivan Senior Center, Sullivan American Legion Post #68 and the Mattoon Bridge Club. Jerri wrote poetry about the military in the 1960s which caught the attention of then President Lyndon B. Johnson who responded personally to her with a letter. In recent years, she wrote articles for the Sullivan Senior Center newsletter. Jerri never met a stranger and had many friends. She married Jack L. Lewis, and he preceded her in death in 1995.
Surviving are her daughters, Vicki Devereaux of Belton, Texas, and Lynn Hermann and her husband Ron of Sullivan; son, Jeff Lewis of Palomino Valley, Nev.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Carolyn Gast of Neoga and Mike Walters of Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Sullivan Senior Citizens Center.
'Dutch’ Kranz
W.B. “Dutch” Kranz, 83 , of Sullivan died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 in the Sullivan Health Care Center.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Colva Mayberry
Colva Ira Mayberry, 89, of Harrison, Ark. died at 12:30 p.m. April 8, 2001 in his home.
Services for the former Decatur resident will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Bethany with visitation one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.
Born May 13, 1911 in Moultrie County, he was the son of Ira Roger and Belle Ringo Mayberry. He was retired from the Mueller Co. He married Roberta Misenheimer May 15, 1931 in Sullivan, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Richard and James Mayberry, both of Decatur, and George Mayberry of Bethany; daughters, Mary Jane Greenwood and Betty Jo Mayberry, both of Harrison, Ark., Doris Cox of Springfield, Mo. and Kathie Makings of Kent, Wash.; sisters, Wanda Brubeck and Gynith Patterson, both of Sullivan; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice in Harrison, Ark.
Malinda Otto
Services for Mrs. Chris (Malinda L. Miller) Otto, 84, of Sullivan were held at 9 a.m. Friday in the Levi C. Otto residence. Burial was in the Yoder Cemetery in Arthur with the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Arthur in charge of arrangements.
She died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 in her home.
Born Oct. 27, 1916 in Arthur, she was the daughter of Levi B. and Rebecca Schrock Miller. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Faith. She married Chris E. Otto Oct. 13, 1936 in Coles County, and he died Sept. 23, 1985.
Survivors include sons, Levi C. Otto and William C. Otto, both of Sullivan; daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Louise) Bontrager of Kokomo, Ind. and Mrs. Omer (Fannie Marie) Miller of Arcola; brothers, Milton L. Miller of Arcola, Ammon L. Miller of Arthur and Melvin L. Miller of Ava; sister, Mrs. Melvin (Laura) Bontrager of Kokomo, Ind.; 19 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, two grandchildren, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.
Freda Pryor
Mrs. Leo (Freda M. Alumbaugh) Pryor, 83, of Sullivan died at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 in the Menard Convalescent Center in Petersburg.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan with visitation one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
Born Aug. 26, 1917 in Moultrie County, she was a daughter of Art and Lizzie Nichols Alumbaugh. She was a retired school teacher and also retired from the Sears store in Decatur. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan. She married Leo S. Pryor, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Survivors include a brother, Willis Alumbaugh of Lovington, and a sister, Pauline Batman of Blue Mound.
Two sisters Mildred Vice and Rosemary Light preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials to the Sullivan Senior Center.
