Charles Gist
Charles Harvey Gist, 72, of Cortez, Colo., died at 5 p.m. Septembr 21, 2002 in the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Isidore Cemetery in Bethany. There will be no visitation. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The former Decatur resident was born Dec. 18, 1930 in Decatur, the son of Coy Edward and Emma Margaret Minniken Gist.
He was retired from Tom Mix Oil Co. and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include brothers Edward A. Gist of Shelbyville and Lloyd D. Gist of Dalton City; sisters Evelyn Kinahan, Joanne born and Mary Ann Wagoner, all of Decatur.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Chris Kenny
Christopher A. "Chris" Kenny, 20, of Sullivan died at 6:38 p.m. Sept. 23, 2002 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Camfield Cemetery in Sullivan. Arrangements are by Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Born Oct. 22, 1981 in Decatur, he was a son of Allen L. and Kathy Ferguson Kenny. He operated Chris Kenny Sports Cards, a home based internet business.
Surviving are his parents; brothers Jonathon Kenny and Timothy Kenny; sister Jennifer Kenny; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Don Ferguson and Ann Kenny, all of Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather.
Jesse King
Services for Jesse L. King, 74, of Salisbury were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with burial in the Salisbury Cemetery.
He died at 3:16 p.m., Sept. 17, 2002 in his residence.
He was born July 5, 1928 in Jasper County, the son of Delmar and Nola Mae Worthy King. He worked as a farm hand at Quarter B Farms for 28 years. He married Wyvona Hinds in 1976, and she survives.
Also surviving are sons Danny King of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Thomas Stewart of Springfield; daughters Marsha Willison of Louisville, Jana Tatum, Carlena Johnson and Estella Sampson, all of Springfield, Glenda Warren of Xenia and Melissa Brown of Rochester; brothers Elmer King of Dundas, Jack King of Mattoon, Wayne King of Gays, Dale King of Arcola and Jim King of Olney; sisters Eva Kirk of Republic, Mo. and Lillie West of Yale; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A brother, a sister, a son and a daughter preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the family or Memorial Medical Center Foundation Cancer Fund.
Sam Olson
Samuel Lee Olson, 66, of Charleston died September 19, 2002 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Inurnment with military rites conducted by Danville American Legion Post #210 will be in the Danville National Cemetery.
The former Sullivan resident was born Sept. 28, 1935 in Minnesota and served with the United States Marine Corps. He married Charlene Goudie Sept. 27, 1980 in California, and she preceded him in death Feb. 18, 1998.
He is survived by a son David Olson and daughters Patricia Olson and Jennifer Olson, all of Charleston and one grandson.
Memorials to the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston may be sent to the funeral home.
Mrs. Lee Schrock
Mrs. Lee (Babe) Schrock, 91, of Sullivan died at 7:45 p.m. Sept. 23, 2002 in her home.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan in charge of arrangements.
Born June 25, 1911 in Bloomington, Ind., she was a daughter of James Henry and Amy K. Sellers Skirvin. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hammond. She married Lee Schrock, and he survives.
Also surviving is a brother Roland Skirvin of Horicon, Wis.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Albert Berry
Funeral services for Albert Earl Berry, 91, of Sullivan were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 16 in the Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Burial with military rites conducted by Waples Bauer Post 94 was in Kettelkamp Cemetery in Nokomis.
The former Nokomis resident died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Born April 6, 1911, he was the son of Chester and Mary Ethel Cory Berry. He was a meat cutter and an employee of the city of Nokomis and was a member of the United Methodist Church and Waples Bauer American Legion Post 94, both in Nokomis. He was also a member of the armed forces during World War II. He married Helen L. Kettelkamp July 18, 1944 in Columbus, Kan., and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughter JoAnn Pryor and her husband Mike of Sullivan; grandchildren Terri Righter of Sullivan, Tracie Sage of Gurnee and Debbie Pryor of Lake Bluff and four great-grandchildren.
A sister Anna Berry preceded him in death.
Hazel Featheringill
Hazel Olivia Thomas Featheringill, 93, of Sullivan, formerly of Bartlesville, Okla. went to heaven at 7:05 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in the Sullivan Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held in the Stumpff Funeral Home, 1600 S.E. Washington Blvd. in Bartlesville, OK 74006-4932. McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan is in charge of local arrangements.
Hazel was born Sept. 23, 1908 in Guthrie, Okla., the daughter of Martin and Dora Duncan Thomas, the eighth of nine children all of whom have preceded her in death. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, the garden club, artist guild, American Red Cross blood drives and was employed with Tom Ward Florist and Colonial Pharmacy and Gifts until she retired in 1973. She was active also in numerous bridge clubs in Bartlesville where she moved in 1939. She married Walter H. Featheringill Sept. 25, 1931 in Arkansas City, Kan., and he died in 1961.
She moved to Sullivan in 1998 to be near her son Barry and wife Judy England Featheringill. Hazel loved flowers, cooking and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her son, Barry Featheringill and wife Judy of Sullivan and dear friends, Odie McReynolds of Bartlesville and Carroll Sebens of Sullivan.
She will be laid to rest by her beloved husband and friend Walter at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville.

Mary Miller
Funeral services for Mrs. William (Mary L. Durham Connor) Miller were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Henry Graham and Pastor Dave Dolan officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.
She died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Mary was born April 20, 1924 in Enid, Okla., the daughter of Goldie Durham. She had worked at the Brown Shoe Co. in Sullivan and Charleston and at Switchcraft in Sullivan and was a member of the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church and Eastern Star. She married Merll Connor Sr., and he preceded her in death in 1944. She then married William L. Miller, and he preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1989.
Surviving are her sons, Merll Connor and his wife Susan and Michael L. Miller and his wife Mary Lou, all of Sullivan; daughters, Susan Miller and Nancy K. Moore and her husband Jim, all of Sullivan, and Lori A. Hughes and her husband Murrell of Benton, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church or to Decatur Memorial Hospital Heart Institute.
