Robert M. Adelizzi
Nov. 16, 2004
Funeral services for Robert M. Adelizzi of Benton Harbor, Mich., formerly of Barrington and Palatine, were held Nov. 20, 2004 at Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington.
Mr. Adelizzi was born June 26, 1935, in Chicago. He received his bachelor of science degree in education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where he was a varsity letterman in track and field for three years. He was named in the 1970 edition of "Outstanding Young Men of America." He was president and chief executive officer of Countryside Industries Inc. in Wauconda.
Mr. Adelizzi is survived by his wife, Pamela; five children, Linda Calzada of Rolling Meadows, Cynthia Adelizzi Pisani of Castro Valley, Calif., Robert L. of Wauconda, Peggy of Island Lake and William of Deer Park; his grandchildren, David Calzada, Kevin Calzada, Daniel Calzada, Vincent Adelizzi Pisani, Robert, Emily, Andrew, Joseph, Michael and Samantha; his sister, Mary Jean Petersen (née Adelizzi); and his companion, Annette Forshee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Angeline.
Memorial contributions may be made to WMU Foundation, 1903 W. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo MI 49008-5403. Arrangements were made with the Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, Palatine.

Peter J. Giannopoulos
Funeral services for Cpl. Peter J. Giannopoulos, 22, of Inverness, were held Nov. 22, 2004 at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, Palatine.
Born Sept. 1, 1982, in Skokie, he was killed in action Nov. 11, 2004 in Lutifiyah, Iraq, while serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment.
Cpl. Giannopoulos is survived by his parents, John and Angie (née Zahareas); two brothers, Nick and Michael; his grandparents, Peter and Helen Giannopoulos and Olga Zahareas; his aunts and uncles, Chrys (Steve) Funteas, Perry (Rubine) Giannopoulos, Georgia (Alex) Kantzavelos and Stella (Phil) Doktor; his cousins, John, Alycia, Lauryn, Peter, Alexandra, Nicole, Jim, Katherine, Nick, Elly and John; many friends; and his best friend, Shannon Pearcy.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Nick Zahareas.
Interment was in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nectarios Church or Enduring Freedom Killed in Action Fund, c/o Canyon National Bank, P.O. Box 2777, Palm Springs CA 92263-9773.

Thomas E. Pleger
Thomas E. Pleger, formerly of Barrington, died Nov. 16, 2004. He was born on the Fourth of July in 1924 in Detroit, Mich.
As a pilot for United Airlines, Mr. Pleger was transferred to O'Hare Airport in 1968. He moved to Barrington and lived in Fox Point for the next 34 years. After retiring in 1984, he spent his time perfecting his sailing skills on Lake Louise, introducing his five grandchildren to the joys of boating. For a time in the 1980s he reported the sailing results for the Barrington Courier- Review.
He was an active member of the Barrington American Legion and the World War II Glider Pilots Association. He was a World War II veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Operation Varsity.
Mr. Pleger is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Frances; two daughters, Marian (Eric) Klieber and Susan (Brad) Thiel; a son, Daniel; a sister, Rheta Hodges; a brother, Ernest, and five grandchildren; Zoe and Tristan Thiel and Hanna, Gareth and Heidi Klieber.
Private internment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army. Arrangements were made with Bradshaw Funeral and Cremation Services.

Thomas J. Quinn
A funeral Mass for Thomas J. Quinn, D.D.S., of Barrington, was celebrated Nov. 20 at St. Anne Community Catholic Church, Barrington. born Aug. 21, 1930, in Evergreen Park, he died Nov. 17, 2004 at his home.
Dr. Quinn attended St. Sabina Grade School on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Leo High School in Chicago in 1948. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Dental Surgery in 1956. From 1956 to 1958, Dr. Quinn served in the U.S. Navy. Following his time in the service, he opened up a dental practice in Wauconda, where he continued his practice until his retirement in 2000. Dr. Quinn was a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society and was a member of the Fox Valley Woodworkers Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (née Patnaude); five children, Thomas (Maureen), Dr. Kevin (Beverly), Maureen (William) Zielinski, Catherine (George) Falcon and Patrick (Margaret); his brothers, Peter (Mavis), Dr. Leo (Maureen) and William (Mary Lou); his sister, Mary Lou (William) Kearny; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment was in Transfiguration Cemetery, Wauconda. Memorials may be made to Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois Inc., 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington IL 60010. Arrangements were made with the Kristan Funeral Home P.C., Mundelein.

Daniel D. France
A funeral Mass for Daniel D. France, 66, a resident of Buffalo Grove for 17 years, formerly of New York, was celebrated April 4 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Buffalo Grove.
Born Oct. 8, 1934, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., he died April 2, 2001 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights.
Mr. France served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a salesman for International Paper Co. in Arlington Heights for 39 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Darcy (Clarence) Boatman of Buffalo, N.Y., Devry (Curtis) Coughlan of Lafayette, La., and Dana of Lake Placid, Fla.; a brother, Richard; a sister, Diane Simpson; and four grandchildren.
Interment was in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck, Conn. Memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Federation. Arrangements were made with the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights.

Genevieve J. Watt
A funeral Mass for Genevieve J. Watt (nee Gilboy), 86, of Long Grove, formerly of Eau Claire, Wis., was celebrated April 6 at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, Palatine.
Born Oct. 14, 1914, in Nokomis, Ill., Mrs. Watt died March 31, 2001 at Long Grove Manor, Long Grove. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Dennis (Kathy) of Eau Claire; three daughters, Janet (Ray) Caballero of La Creseata, Calif., Nancy (Terry) Raby of Palatine and Margette (Nick) Moriniti of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Agatha (the late Glenn) and Patricia Allen; a brother, Paul (the late Gloria) Gilboy; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law LaVerne Gilboy and Lolly Gilboy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L.; a son, Bobby; her parents, Michael and Clara Gilboy; three sisters; and five brothers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4209 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie IL 60076. Arrangements were made with Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, Palatine.

Kevin Leo
Kevin Leo, 58, of Palatine, died July 16 of brain cancer. A funeral Mass was celebrated July 21, 2004 at St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish, Prospect Heights.
Mr. Leo was the husband of Diane (nee Jenen); father of Kimberly (Dan) Tice, Kristi (Clay) Smith and Kerri Leo; and brother of Kathie (Bob) Peterson and Brian (Diane).
Married to Diane, his high school sweetheart, for 35 years, he doted on his daughters, "the three best daughters in the world."
Mr. Leo, owner of Leo Direct Unlimited, was active in the direct marketing industry and Chicago Association of Direct Marketing for 30 years. He was an international speaker, presented classes for the Direct Marketing Association, and was a leader and mentor.
He was ordained a deacon in 1987 and lived his faith through his work as a deacon at St. Thomas of Villanova in Palatine and St. Alphonsus Liguori. His ministries included PADS, SHARE/Food, baptism preparation, Christ Renews His Parish, National Diaconate Institute for Continuing Education and several ecumenical councils. He was a field advocate for the marriage tribunal and helped many divorced individuals to heal and grow.
Known for his lively homilies, many will remember his unusual preaching style and amazing voice.
Mr. Leo attended Georgetown University, earning a bachelor of science degree in international affairs, and DePaul University, earning a master of business administration degree in marketing. He started his working career as a high school teacher/coach.
Memorial contributions may be made to Leo Catholic High School, 7901 S. Sangamon St., Chicago IL 60620. Arrangements were made with Ahlgrim Family Funeral Services, Palatine.

Barbara K. McIntyre
A memorial service for Barbara K. McIntyre, 88, of Wheeling, will be held at 11 a.m. July 31, 2004 at Addolorata Villa, 555 N. McHenry Road, Wheeling. Interment will be private. born Jan. 10, 1916, she died July 25 at Addolorata Villa.
Mrs. McIntyre is survived by two daughters, Susan (Harry) Piontowski and Sally (Peter) Trudeau; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
Memorial contributions may be made to Addolorata Villa. Arrangements were made with Kolssak Funeral Home Ltd., Wheeling.

Diane E. Nicholson
A funeral Mass for Diane E. (nee Boroviak) Nicholson, 62, a resident of Buffalo Grove since 1967, was celebrated July 23, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Buffalo Grove. born Aug. 7, 1941, she died July 19, 2004.
Mrs. Nicholson married James Nicholson on Aug. 14, 1965. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Buffalo Grove. Diagnosed with cancer in 2000, she continued to teach, to grandmother, to travel and to remain open to all that life had to offer.
She served on the St. Mary Breast Cancer Ministry, in which she expressed deep concerns about other members of the group, even as she battled her cancer. In 2001, she was a featured speaker at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Kick-off Breakfast at the Fremont Hotel in Chicago.
Mrs. Nicholson graduated from National-Louis University in 1963 with a degree in elementary education. She taught for two years at Middlefork School in Northfield. After getting her son and daughter started in school, she returned to teaching. She taught for 32 years in School District 21; first at Stevenson Elementary School and then Robert Frost Elementary School in Mount Prospect. During this time she served on a variety of committees and worked tirelessly to provide educational opportunities for children in District 21. Even recently she received cards and letters from former students.
Mrs. Nicholson also served as president of the Indian Trails Library. She was a driving force in the planning for the construction of the Indian Trails Library at its present site on Schoenbeck Road in Wheeling. Even with all the teaching, library work and breast cancer ministry, she made time to play bridge in three groups and take part in two book discussion groups.
Traveling was also another example of her enjoyment of life. Whether it was cruising the Yangtze River, the Rhine, the Rhone, or the Mediterranean, she savored each event with her particular élan. Indeed, she was so eager that she would be first for every tour, lecture and midnight buffet. Her record at being "first in line" is still unbroken.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nicholson is survived by her son, Kevin (Kim) of Lake Zurich; a daughter, Heidi (Greg) Smitas of Bolingbrook; two grandsons, Ryan and Jacob Smitas; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Diane; a sister, Darlene Boroviak; and her brother, Dale (Debbie) Boroviak. She was especially thankful for the friendship and support of her many friends through the years.
Burial was in St. Mary Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Y-ME Breast Cancer Organization, 36964 Eagle Way, Chicago IL 60679-1369. Arrangements were made with the Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Arlington Heights.

Judith A. Weidner
A funeral Mass was celebrated July 27 for Long Grove resident Judith A. Weidner, 61, at St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church, Indian Creek, Ill. Cremation and interment were private. born Nov. 17, 1942, in Evanston, she died July 23, 2004 in Long Grove.
Mrs. Weidner is survived by her husband, Bernard; her children, Jeff (Judy), Mark (Bonnie), Jim, Cheri (Mike) Feightner, Lisa Sheppard, Don (Trish) and Tim; her grandchildren, Courtney, Taylor, Rita, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Ryan, Jenna, Nicholas, Gregory, Michael, Joseph and Jessica; a brother, Gerry (Sue) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Florence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas TX 75265-0309. Arrangements were made with Ahlgrim Family Funeral Services, Lake Zurich.

Charmaine J. McIver
Funeral services for Charmaine J. McIver (nee Larson), 73, of Long Grove, formerly of Elkhorn, Wis., will be private. born Feb. 9, 1928, in Chicago, she died Sept. 28, 2001 at Claremont Rehab Living Center, Buffalo Grove.
Mrs. McIver is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline (Jim) Coleman and Charisse; sisters Lila Dirks, Caroline (Victor) Norderud, Dawn Smith, Jeannine (Frank) Tomaszewski and Erna (Bill) Britt; grandchildren Coleen (Matthew) Grubb, Meghan Coleman and Katherine Coleman; and a great-grandchild, Grace Grubb.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John M. “Jack”; a son, John Martin; her parents, Walter and Erna Larson; and a sister, Beverly Frenzel.
Interment will be private in Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 4709 Golf Road, Skokie IL 60076; or Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 South Hager Ave., Barrington IL 60010. Arrangements were made with Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, Palatine.

Edward S. Chromy
A funeral Mass for Edward S. Chromy, 87, of Buffalo Grove was celebrated Oct. 2, 2001 at St. Mary Church, Buffalo Grove. born March 31, 1914, in Chicago, he died Sept. 27, 2001 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights.
Mr. Chromy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Why Not Social Club.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria (nee Matuszewski); three sons, Ronald (Joyce), Edward (Linda) and Joseph; two brothers, Leo (Marilyn) and John (Teresa); seven grandchildren, Betty (Mike) Burke, Karen Jewula, John (Kathy) Jewula, Deanne (T.J.) Apple, Tim (Lynn) Chromy, Jeremy and Jessica; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy (Chester) Jewula.
Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Kolssak Funeral Home, Wheeling.

Gertrude M. Acker
A memorial Mass for Gertrude M. Acker, 89, of Wheeling was celebrated Nov. 27, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Buffalo Grove.
Mrs. Acker was a respected employee of Tower Packaging. She took great pride in her home and garden. All who knew her will remember her for her strength, creativity and quick wit.
Mrs. Acker is survived by her children, Kenneth (Mary) of Pahrump, Nev., Thomas of Denver, Colo., Ronald of Wheeling, Natalie Esser of Wheeling, Christine (Vince) Dembinski of Ingleside, Bonnie (Stephen) Ketner of Jacksonville, Ill., and Wendy (Robert) Fendrick of Stoughton, Wis.; her brother, Tony Malinski; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linus G.; her son, John; her parents, Angeline and Adam Malinski; her brothers, Adam and Fred Malinski; and her sisters, Rose Malinski and Marge Januz.
Inurnment was private. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Vitas Hospice and request memorial donations be made to Vitas Hospice, 580 Waters Edge Drive, Lombard, IL 60148. Arrangements were made with Kolssak Funeral Home, Wheeling.
