Alvis M. Kotecki
Memorial services for Alvis M. Kotecki, 80, a 33-year resident of Buffalo Grove, were held Nov. 29, 2004 at Hope Lutheran Church, Long Grove. born Sept. 7, 1924, in Chicago, she died Nov. 24, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Kotecki was a graduate of St. Anne's School of Nursing in Chicago and retired in 2000 after 47 years as a registered nurse. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. She was also a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Long Grove, where she participated in the Naomi Ruth Circle and the Young Art Heart.
Survivors include Mrs. Kotecki's children, Paul (Shelly), Stan and Theresa, all of Buffalo Grove; and two sisters, Marie Urban of Arlington Heights and Jeanie Brown of Wausau, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, in 1996; and her parents, Fred and Sadie Ziegler.
A graveside service was held Nov. 26, at Acacia Park Cemetery, Chicago. Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness. Arrangements were made with Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, Libertyville.

Walter C. Niemann
A funeral Mass for Walter C. Niemann, 82, of Arlington Heights, formerly of Buffalo Grove, was celebrated Nov. 29 at St. James Church, Arlington Heights. born Feb. 18, 1922, in Indianapolis, the son of Gus and Maria (nee Langer) Niemann, he died Nov. 24, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Niemann was a tool and die maker for Cardinal Tool in Palatine for more than 30 years before retiring in 1989. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Korbel of Lake Zurich and Mary M. Marquette of Barrington; his grandchildren, Bridget (Michael) Stodden, Brian (Yvonne) Korbel, Sgt. Chad (Dana) Marquette, Brandon Marquette and Brett (Becki) Marquette; his sister, Gertrude Weiss; his sisters-in-law, Betty and Edna; seven great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Marie; his son-in-law, Robert Korbel; and his brother-in-law, George Weiss.
Burial was in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager, Barrington, IL 60010. Arrangements were made with the Glueckert Funeral Home, Arlington Heights.

Harold A. "Hal" Thompson
Funeral services for Harold A. "Hal" Thompson, 77, a nine-year resident of Buffalo Grove and a former 40-year resident of Elk Grove Village, were held Nov. 29, 2004 at Grove Memorial Chapel, Elk Grove Village. born in Youngstown, Oh., he died Nov. 25, 2004.
Mr. Thompson was a retired salesman in the fire protection industry. He was a member of the Fox Run Golf League, the Elk Grove Park District Over 50 Softball League and was a former Park District Little League Baseball coach and umpire.
Mr. Thompson is survived by four sons, Mark A. (Pamela), Matthew M. (Deborah), David C. (Peggy) and Paul A. (Arlene); a stepdaughter, Vicki L. (Phil) Hammen; his grandchildren, Allison, Wesley, Alissia, Derek, Ryan, Rachel, Christina, Zachary, Ian, Sarah and Spencer; a nephew, Thomas; a niece, Ruth Ann; and his loving friend, Patricia Vitaliano. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita H. (nee Hirschel), in 1991; his brother, Robert (the late Paulene); and two nephews, Robert and Herold.
Interment was in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Virginia M. Quinn
Virginia M. Quinn (nee Latus), 85, of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Chicago, died Sept. 23, 2003 at Resurrection Hospital, Chicago. She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Bearlake, Mich.
Mrs. Quinn is survived by five daughters, Carol (Leroy) Kowalski of Chicago, Monica (Paul) Schultz of Mount Vernon, Ill., Mary (Stanley) Schultz of Arlington Heights, Celestine T. of Clarksville, Tenn., and Virginia (Steve) Labno of Brookfield, Ill.; two sons, John (Lynne) of Algonquin and Thomas (Miya) of Clarksville, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bernard (Luz) Latus, of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and a sister, Elaine Kaiser.
A memorial mass and interment will be scheduled for a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated for the American Diabetes Association, 2328 N. Mayfair Rd., Suite 502, Wauwatosa,WI 53226. Arrangements were made with Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, Palatine.

Daniel J. Schoaff Jr.
Daniel J. Schoaff Jr., 80, of Cary, died Sept. 25, 2003 at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. He was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Chicago, to Elizabeth and Daniel J. Sr.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, Cary.

Eunice A. Anderson
Eunice A. Anderson, 88, a 50 year resident of Deerfield, died Jan. 25 at her home.
She was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Stonington, Mich.
Survivors include her children, Marylee Malinoff of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ken Anderson of Deerfield, Steve Anderson of Deerfield and Kevin (Tracey) Anderson of Vernon Hills; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were private.

Steven Leonard Favelli
Steven Leonard Favelli, 53, of Highland Park, died Jan. 27 at Highland Park Hospital.
He was born Nov. 30, 1953 in Highland Park.
Mr. Favelli was owner and founder of Task Force Inc. of Highland Park.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (nee Moroney); stepson, David; his mother, Eileen of Lake Forest (the late Leonard). His brother, Thomas (Georgia) of Key West, Fla.; and aunts and uncles, Lenore and Dave Santi and Mitzi and Ron Favelli.
He was preceded in death by his father Leonard; his brother, David; and his grandparents, Eva and John Cervi and Olga Fiocchi.
Funeral Mass was held on Feb. 1 at St. James Church, Highwood. Interment followed in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.

William Graham
William B. Graham saved uncounted lives on every continent in the world, but few would have recognized his name. A quiet philanthropist and a corporate visionary, Mr. Graham directed the development of dozens of breakthrough health-care products during his 61-year tenure at Deerfield-based Baxter International.
He died Jan. 24 of heart failure at his Kenilworth home. He was 94.
The medical devices Baxter developed during Mr. Graham's leadership created one of the outstanding stories of growth in corporate America. Among the products: the first artificial kidney; the first plastic blood-collecting system (making it possible to separate blood components); first flexible intravenous container system (now the world standard for IV administration); the first clotting factor for people with hemophilia; and the introduction of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
A graduate of the University of Chicago with degrees in chemistry and law, he practiced patent law before joining Baxter in 1945 as vice president and manager. In 1953, he was named CEO, retaining that post until 1980. He served as chairman from 1971 until 1985, and senior chairman until 1996. He then served as chairman emeritus and honorary member of the board of directors.
Mr. Graham was a prominent leader in drug-industry activities, serving as president of the American Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and chair of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association.
Active in business, civic and philanthropic affairs, he was one of the early drivers behind Chicago's Millennium Park. He was a member of the board of directors of the Lyric Opera of Chicago for more than 40 years, serving as president from 1984 to 1992, co-chairman from 1992 to 2002, and was named chairman emeritus in 2003. He was a director of the Chicago Horticultural Society; Evanston Northwestern Healthcare; Big Shoulders Fund, and a trustee of the Orchestral Association and of the University of Chicago.
To honor his memory, the Baxter International Foundation created the William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research, with a $50,000 annual award administered by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. The award will be made to a researcher who has made major contributions to the health of the public through innovative research in health services through a lifetime of work.
Mr. Graham was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, in 1981, and is survived by sons William and Robert ; daughters Elizabeth Montgomery and Margaret G. Caswell, and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at Saints Faith, Hope and Charity Church in Winnetka.

Sue "Susie" Spiegel
Sue "Susie" Spiegel, 71, of Highland Park, died Jan. 22, 2006 at her home.
She was born July 30, 1934 in New York, N.Y.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Andy Spiegel; and her daughters, Jill Spiegel and Sally Spiegel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucile Wolff Young and Fritz Wolff.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 5 from 2-4 p.m. at the Lake Shore Country Club, 1255 N. Sheridan Road, Glencoe.
Funeral services were made by Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home.

Matteo Evola
Matteo Evola, 83, of Deerfield, died Jan. 24, 2006 at Highland Park Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1922 in Sicily, Italy.
Mr. Evola was co-owner of Riviera Italian Imported Foods for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Nancy (nee Maltese); one son, Vito (Elizabeth nee Muraca) Evola of Long Grove and daughter, Maria (Matthew) Kluchenek of Hinsdale; and two grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was held on Jan. 30 at Holy Cross Church, Deerfield. Interment was at all Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Ill.
Donations may be made in his name to the Kellogg Cancer Center, 757 Park Ave., West Highland Park, IL 60035
Funeral arrangements were made by Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home.

Avis L. Cantagallo
Avis L. Cantagallo, 85, of Deerfield, died Jan. 28, 2006.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1920.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ambrose; son, Richard (Brigid) of Buffalo Grove; three grandchildren; brother Roland (Anita) Monroe.
Funeral Mass was held Jan. 31 at Holy Cross Church, Deerfield. Interment was private.
Donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Attn.: Financial Development, 43 East Ohio Chicago, IL 60611.
Funeral services were made by Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home.

Tessie K. Horton
Tessie K. Horton, 89, of Libertyville, formerly of Deerfield, died Feb. 17 at Winchester House in Libertyville.
Mrs. Horton was born Nov. 21, 1911 in Chicago. A Lake County resident since 1986, Mrs. Horton was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Buffalo Grove and was an honorary member of the Eastern Star 845 O.E.S. in Chicago.
Survivors include her two sons, Allen (Edna) Horton of Bradenton, Fla., and Raymond (Shirley) Horton of Vernon Hills; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 1972; and by a sister, Leola Lein.
Private interment services were held Feb. 21 at the Arlington Hill Cemetery in Bangor, Mich. Local arrangements were handled by Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd. of Libertyville.
