Age 78. Passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002 at Ashland Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin. Late of Chicago.
Survived by his four children, Robert and Larry (Maria) Jurgens, Maureen Madeja, and Sharon (Mick) Bandos. Grandfather of eight. Also survived by his brothers, Robert, Donald (Mary), Wayne (Marie), Lowell (Joan), Roland (Anne), Merrill (Kay), Richard (Barbara), and Glen Jurgens; also his sisters, Dorothy Corrigan, and twins, Adell (Harry) O'Sullivan and Audrey (John) McGuzkin.
Employed by Illinois Bell Telephone for 35 years. He served in WWII and receive the Purple Heart-5th Army.
Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Evans) Jurgens; and his parents, Frederick H. and Marie (Heckleman) Jurgens. "His goal in life was to live and enjoy Northern Wisconsin, which he did."
Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, Cedar at Francis Rd., Monday, July 15, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel to St. Jude for mass of Christian burial at 10:30. Age 85, of Lemont, July 11, 2002. born in Chicago, residing in Lemont most of her life.
Preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Kielma; a daughter, Barbara (Anthony) Slattery; and a brother, Harry Stachowski.
Survived by two daughters, Arlene (late Edward) Purdy of Elwood and Lois (Arthur) Peterson of Lockport; four sons, Robert (Darlene), David, Wayne (Sharon), all of Lockport and Ronald Kielma of Lemont; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Edward (Mildred) Stachowski and Leonard (Mary) Stachowski, both of Lemont.

Age 92, Sun City, AZ, died Monday, July 8, 2002. Survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughter, Susan Sanders, a son, Gordon Jr., four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a sister, Willa Schroeder.
Preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucy (Groth) Longley and his brother, Russell.
A former resident of Joliet, graduating from JTHS in 1928. Served in World War II in the Navy as Lt. Commander with the B-12 Program.

Survived by her niece, Jean (Eldon) Norman of Pensacola, FL; nephew, John Nelson of Hancock, ME; cousin, Alan (Teresa) Carlson of Princeton, IL; sister-in-law, Jeanette Nelson of West Lafayette, IN.
Preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ida (nee Carlson) Nelson and one brother, Werner Nelson.
Born June 15, 1912 on a farm near Sheffield, IL. Graduate of Manlius High School, Wheaton College with a BA of Art, and University of Illinois with a Masters of Art. Taught at Manlius High School for five years and English at Joliet Central Hight School for 29 years.
Member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Memorial services will be held at the Fairview Baptist Home, 250 Village Drive, Downers Grove, on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at 10:45 AM with Pastor Christiansen and Pastor Michael Smith officiating. Nels Steven Nelson "Steve"
Age 36, passed away suddenly Friday, July 12, 2002 at his home in Morris.
Survived by his daughter, Lauren Nelson; son, Lane Nelson; brother, Erik Nelson; two sisters, Dee Dee (Don) Cassagrande and Nicole (Julius) Shell; two nephews, Dawson and Logan Cassagrande; mother and step father, Norman and Joye (Whitmore) O'Keefe; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Born in Joliet and returned to the area in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nels Scott Nelson; maternal grandparents, Nathaniel and Elizabeth Whitmore; his step father, Thomas Parsons; and an uncle, Lyman Wildes.
Family will receive friends at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, Cedar at Francis Roads, Wednesday, July 17, 2002, 3 PM until time of services at 7 PM. The Rev. Jerry Tipton officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorials for the Children's Education Fund would be appreciated.

Robert G. Newsome "Bucky"
Age 62. Thursday, July 11, 2002 peacefully at his home with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. born in Melvin, KY, he grew up in Lexington, KY and moved to Joliet in 1963. Bob received his Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Iowa. A graduate of the University of Kentucky; he was a lifelong Wildcat fan! A graduate of the Lafayette High School, Lexington, KY Class of 1958. He was employed at St. Joseph Hospital (1963-68), Newsome Physical Therapy (1968-1989) and MedRehab, Inc. (1989-1994). He was owner of Robert Newsome & Associates (1994-2002). Bob was active in the Illinois APTA and the Private Practice Section of the APTA. He was on the Board of Directors YMCA (1972-78), Troy Board of Education (1973-76), Rotary Club Board of Directors (1971-78), President of Joliet Rotary Club (1976-77), Board of Directors Joliet Country Club and President of the Joliet Country Club (1976). Member of the steering Committee for Joliet Area Community Hospice (1982-87), Chairman of Fund Drive for Joliet Hospice (1982-83). Bob's passion for the game of golf rewarded him with world travel, the JCC Club Championship in 1979 and six spectacular hole-in-ones. An avid fitness enthusiast, he enjoyed skiing, running and any physical activity. Over the past few years, he found his artistic side in his water colors and oil paintings.
Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Phyllis (nee Cox) Newsome of Joliet; one son, Greg (Julie) Newsome of Joliet; one daughter, Traci (Dave) Fitzgerald of Lockport; five grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and Brandon Newsome; Riley and Robert Cody Fitzgerald; one brother, Oakie (Patsy) Newsome of Lexington, KY; two sisters, Janet (Jim) Osborne of Louisville, KY and Phyllis (late John) Jenkins of Lexington, KY. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Joseph T. Peraud "Teno"
Age 93. Passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002 in Palmetto, FL. born in Italy and a long time Joliet resident. He was a retired steelworker with U.S. Steel.
Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (nee Marietta) Peraud; parents, James and Caterina (nee Bovero) Peraud; one brother, Felix; three sisters, Rena Quas, Esther Merlo and Helen Marion.
Survived by two sons, James (Dolores "Dee") Peraud of Lockport and Dr. Joseph (Dr. Mary Sharon) Peraud of Fredericksburg, IA; eight grandchildren, Marlene (Edward) Wallace, Master Sgt. David Peraud, James K. (Tracey) Peraud, Kenneth (Kathy) Peraud, Richard (Julia) Peraud; Peter, Dominic and Ann Margaret Peraud; eleven great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Raymond Piechonka
Died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Chicago on August 15, 1919 and has resided in Joliet since 1965. He was the owner of Modern Mobile Homes and Sales in Joliet since 1965. He formerly owned Kozy Korner Snack Shop, Chicago, IL and Brooks Shrimp House in Brookfield, IL. He was also employed as a butcher for High-Low Foods and National Tea Foods in Chicago.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S.Army during World War II, and he was a lifetime member of Stone City Post VFW #2199.
Preceded in death by his wife, Dolores M. (nee Hildebrand) Piechonka (1989); his parents, John and Sophie Piechonka; a brother, William Piechonka; and a sister, Anne (late, Joseph) Kryzak.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy A. (Frank) Budzinski; and his son, Gary (Carol) Piechonka; his grandchildren, Brian (Tracy), Bradley (Doree) and Beth Ann Budzinski, and Candace, Jeanice and Laura Piechonka; his great-grandchildren, Tori, Parker, Sydney, Logan and Chase Budzinski and Lavern, Wayne, Monique, Samitha, Maliegha Piechonka; also, a brother, Alex (Lottie) Forest of Somanauk, IL and two sisters, Stephanie Kryzak of So. Carolina and Jeanette Kozlowski of FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
