Lorraine F. Olson
Lorraine F. Olson, 86, of Batavia, passed away January 8, 2001 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. She was born February 23, 1914 in Batavia to Norman and Florence (Andrews) Cheney.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed by her family. She was a life long member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was one of the original members of the Bethany Couples Club. She was also a member of the Batavia Woman of the Moose and a founding member of Moose VIP's. She was employed at Phipps Department Store and for many years at Johnson's Drug Store.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth M. Olson of 63 years; three daughters, Carolyn (Arlyn) Lund of Grantsburg, WI, Kathi (Gary) Wilson of Batavia and Mary (John) Coon of Polson, MT; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Warnecke.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2001 at Bethany Lutheran Church & South Lincoln Street, Batavia, IL. Rev. Gregory Fetzer will officiate and burial will be at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia, IL.
Visitation will be at Bethany Lutheran Church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Anton Racs
Anton Racs, 86, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at his home. He was born August 9, 1914 in Mezofalva, Hungary.
Anton was a long time, faithful member of St. Therese Church and a member of the St. Elizabeth Hungarian Club. He was a veteran of WWII, where he walked the wall to watch for enemy attack,
Anton was a devoted husband and father who worked endlessly to give his family everything they needed and wanted. He always gave of his time and love. Anton will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Mary and his adoring family.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary (Treml) Racs; his two daughters, Elizabeth (Bernie) Nickels of Batavia and Mary-Ann Racs of Aurora; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Mary Nickels, Michael Nickels and Angela Nickels; two nephews and three nieces of Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Elizabeth (Bauer) Racs; his sister, Barbara Racs and his brother, Stephen Racs.
Funeral from The Daleiden Lake St. Mortuary, Friday, January 12, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. to St. Therese Church at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Joseph Muller, M.S.C. will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Frances M. Todd
Frances M. Todd, 86, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9th at Jennings Terrace in Aurora. She was born in Aurora, June 7, 1914 to Ellis and Alice (Culp) Eichelberger. She was happily wedded to Tom Todd until his sad passing in 1981. Fran was a lively soul with a warm heart who will greatly be missed by all.
She was a long time member of Fourth Street United Methodist Church as well as serving on the Home and Education Committee of the Aurora Women's Club. For over 10 years, her Mondays were spent working with pastoral Care at Rush-Copley Hospital. She always found time to volunteer her assistance to the Jennings Terrace Auxiliary. She was a good friend to so many people. She was a member of the Knitting Club as well as a group she and her friends called "The Wacky Widows Club." The good neighbors and friends at Belles Terres Condominiums mustn't be left out. Her friends were as near and dear to her as the family she has left behind.
Her life will be remembered by her sons, Michael R. Todd, Orr's Island, Maine; as well as Thomas J. Todd and his wife, Stephenie of Oswego. She has left wonderful memories in the hearts of her grandchildren, Sara and Alexandra Todd of Orr's Island, Maine; Tom Todd Jr. of Bloomington, IL, Julie Todd of Oswego and Liberty Todd of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, Fran wished that memorials be made to Pastoral Care at Rush-Copley Hospital or Fourth Street United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 12th, 2001 at Fourth Street United Methodist Church.
The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Norval Brown and Chaplain Dan Sullivan officiating. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.
At 12:30 p.m. an open house will be held at Fourth Street United Methodist Church.
Mr. Jake Alexander Walters
Mr. Jake Alexander Walters, 82, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Provena Mercy Center. He was born October 5, 1918 in Casey, IL to the late Guy and Bertha Walters.
Mr. Walters graduated from Cornell College with a degree in Geology. Jake served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and completed 50 missions in the North African Theater as a Captain of a B-17 Bomber. He later married Adrienne Roscoe May 14, 1944. He was employed at Barber-Greene for over 40 years. He was a long time member of New England Congregational Church where he sang in the choir for 55 years and also was a Church Cabinet Member and a Deacon. He was also a member of the Golden Kiwanis. Jake enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing, biking, canoeing, and most of all spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Adrienne and his three daughters, Cynthia (William) Owen of Wausau, WI, Linda (Robert) Young of Marseilles, IL, Claudia (John) Reinhardt of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Julie and Brian Young, Sara and Amy Owen; one sister, Evelyn (Richard) Grummon of Springfield, IL.
Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Walters.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from New England Congregational Church with Rev. Gary McCann and Mr. Joe Dunham officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be directed to New England Congregational Church. Arrangements were entrusted to The Healy Chapel.
Alberta Mae "Birdie" Yeager (nee Wortman)
Alberta Mae "Birdie (nee Wortman) Yeager, former Batavia resident, passed away on January 5, 2001 at the Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania's Masonic Home of Alzheimer's related illnesses. She was 84. Alberta, known since childhood as "Birdie", the daughter of Judson and Florence (Arnold) Wortman, was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1916.
She grew up in nearby Fullerton, where she graduated from Whitehall High School in 1934 while performing in the school's operettas and dreaming of singing on Broadway. From 1935 to 1941, Birdie was an executive secretary at Mack Trucks in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she met Warren Yeager, with whom she would marry in 1938 and raise two children, Bruce (1942) and Douglas (1947). Warren became a sales executive at the Lehigh Valley Railroad and over the next 35 years moved the family to Geneva and Niagara Falls, New York, Chicago, Cincinnati and Philadelphia, before returning to the home office in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
While living in Batavia, from 1948 to 1958, the Yeagers were very active with the Methodist Church where Birdie was a Sunday School teacher and with the American Legion, where Warren was County (and local) Commander and Birdie was Auxiliary Secretary.
During these years moving throughout America, Birdie also developed a career as an administrative specialist for public school systems. Upon retirement, Alberta and Warren moved to New Port Richey, Florida in 1977, where they remained very active in the Shriners, the Masons, the American Legion and the Methodist Church. After Warren passed in 1990, Birdie, trying to manage with progressive Alzheimer's, moved into the Masonic Home in 1992.
Birdie is survived by her son, Douglas of New York City; her grandson and granddaughter, Michael and Kristin Yeager and 2 great- grandchildren, Brianna and Kyle Yeager of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2001 at the Asbury United Methodist, 1533 Springhouse, Allentown, Pennsylvania, with Pastor Wilbur Goist presiding. She will be interned at Highland Memorial cemetery in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the National Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
Bert Edward Everett
Bert Edward Everett, 81, died December 28, 2000. A former resident of Aurora, retired Lyon Co. employee, Army Veteran of World War II and a Lutheran. Survivors: wife, Bernice Everett, sister, Grace McGill of Yorkville, IL. Funeral services were Jan. 2, 2001, interment in Bald Knob, AR, by Powell Funeral Home.
Thomas E. Holt
Mr. Thomas E. Holt, 75, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2001 at his home. He was born on August 3, 1925 in Aurora, the son of the late Claude and Juanita (Greene) Holt.
Tom was employed at All-Steel for 46 years. He also was an avid bowler.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Lynn Tesh of Tomahawk, WI and Brenda L. (Ron) Brannan of Montgomery; the mother of his children, Charlette of Montgomery; three grandchildren, Jon Schenk Jr. of WI, Robbie Tesh of NY and Jason Brannan of Aurora; one great grandchild, Sean Johnson and his half sister, Lois Beach, formerly of Sandwich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and one brother.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. from The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove with Rev. Gerald L. Rygh officiating. Interment will take place at River Hills Memorial Park.

Mr. Thomas Elbert Holt, 75, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 10, 2001. He was born August 3, 1925.

Raymond C. Kozloski
Raymond C. Kozloski, 73, of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2001 at Rush-Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora. He was born August 19, 1927 in Montgomery, IL.
Mr. Kozloski was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. He served as Mayor of Montgomery from 1985-1993, was a member of the Village Board and Planning Commission from 1972-1985. He currently served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Oswego Public Library District as Treasurer. Ray was also a Boy and Cub Scout Leader for 12 years and held a PTA Life Membership at Nicholson School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amelia "Molly" Kozloski; an infant son, John Charles Kozloski; and one brother, John L. Kozloski, killed in WWII.
Survivors include: His wife Lois Kozloski of Montgomery; three sons, James Kozloski, Charles Kozloski and William Kozloski, all of Montgomery; one daughter Lisa (Michael) Giese of Glen Ellyn, IL.; one sister Catherine Weber of Scottsdale, AZ.; five grandchildren, Megan (Steve) Stemmet of Yorkville, IL., Matthew Kozloski of Alta, Utah, Maren (Kelvin) King of Long Beach, MS., Robert Giese of Glen Ellyn, IL., and Andrew Giese of Glen Ellyn, IL.; also two great-grandchildren, Jacob Stemmet of Yorkville, IL., and Madyson King of Long Beach, MS.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2001 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery.

Elizabeth A. Valentine
Mrs. Elizabeth A. Valentine, age 90, a resident of Wild Rose Manor, WI for the past 3 1/2 years, formerly of Aurora, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 2001 at the Manor. She was born October 28, 1910 in Aurora, the daughter of Charles and Anne (Carroll) Harkins. She married Palmer Kenholm Valentine, July 30, 1938 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Aurora. He preceded her in death March 25, 1999 after almost 61 years of marriage.
Mrs. Valentine was raised in Aurora and was a member of the second graduating class of Madonna High School, in Aurora, Class of 1929. Mrs. Valentine had been a secretary at Beaupre School for several years until her retirement. She moved to Wautoma, WI in 1997 with her daughter and son-in-law and became a resident of the Wild Rose Manor that year.
Mrs. Valentine was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora, St. Mark's Catholic Church in Redgranite, WI and belonged to two Bridge Clubs in Aurora for over 50 years.
Elizabeth was a loving and caring mother whose survivors include her children, Judith (Walter) Tooley of rural Wautoma, WI, Mary K. Bartlett of Tampa, FL, James (Barbara) Valentine of Brooksville, FL and Dan and Dennis Valentine; 11 grandchildren, Theresa (Dan) Barreiro, Tammy (Barry) Reddoch, Toni (Jim) Anderson, Tim (Sa Lena) Tooley, Jr., Tina (Phil) Widd, Dawn (Jim) Hotrum, Ben Valentine, Carrie Valentine, Nathan Valentine, Josh Valentine and Patrick Valentine and a step grandchild, Becca Henneman and 11 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Danielle, Christina, Aaron, Samantha, Matthew, Katie, Michael, Joseph, Timothy Jr., & Nikko; two sisters, Anne Doell of Aurora and Mary (Russ) Campbell of Waukegan, IL; three sisters-in-law, Mary Harkins of Tucson, AZ, Rose Harkins of Mesa, AZ and Marjorie Harkins of Aurora; other relatives and friends.

Gerald Butler
Mr. Gerald Butler, 78, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 at Central DuPage Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1922 in Oxford Depot, N.Y., the son of the late Asa and Minnie Butler.
Gerald began life on his family's Dairy Farm in New York. During his youth, he was a local high school basketball star, holding the record for consecutive free throw shots. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran where he became a competitive Boxer for his squadron. After his honorable discharge from his military service, he moved to Aurora, IL to marry Deloris Miller. He retired as a PBX Supervisor from Illinois Bell Telephone Company after 35 years and was a member of The Illinois Bell Pioneer's. During the first 6 years after his retirement, he worked with his son-in-law as an automobile salesman at Dave Cory Ford in Morton Grove, IL. Later, he sold cars for Fox Valley Ford in Aurora, IL. He was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed walking, bowling and gaming as his hobbies. He was a loving husband and caring father that will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years of marriage, Deloris (Miller) Butler of Aurora; three daughters, Linda (Rex) Benjamin of Aurora, Sherry (Dave) Cory of The Woodlands, Texas, and Laurie (John) Drew of LaPorte, Texas and his son, Barry (Jeanine) Butler of Aurora. He is the Grandfather to nine grandchildren; Daniel and Bridget Butler, Todd and Bryan Tullett, Jeff and Ricky Cory, Kimberly Phillip, Darrick and Alicia Drew and several great grandchildren.
Gerald's family also included three brothers, Vernon, Roland and Frank; and four sisters, Kathleen, Marjorie, Angeline and Fern. His father, mother, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Friday, 3-7 p.m Jan. 12, 2001 at The Healy Chapel in Aurora.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., Jan. 13, 2001 at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora.
Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Vera B. Hall
Vera B. Hall, age 87, passed away on Thursday morning, January 11, 2001 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, IL. Her spirit now free from pain, claims the promise of her Savior and lives in heaven. Vera was born on December 13, 1913, the daughter of William Frederick and Vera Mabel (Converse) Strom in Aurora, IL.
Vera grew up in Aurora and attended East Aurora High School. She graduated in 1931 and continued her education by training to become a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was united in marriage on May 1, 1937 to Howard "Jerry" Hall at the Boys Home chapel in St. Charles, IL by a missionary priest. They began their new life in Elburn. During the first years of her married life, she ran a local restaurant while Jerry was the PostMaster for Elburn. After a time, Vera started a dress shop with her sister-in-law, Edna Ryan on Main St. After the dress shop closed its doors for the last time, Vera went back to St. Joseph's to work as a surgical nurse for many years until her retirement in the early 1960's. Her retirement didn't last long because a few years later she worked for Dr. Baxter's office at the Batavia Clinic in Batavia, IL.
Vera was a very caring and loving person who would do anything for anybody. According to Vera, her purpose on earth was to take care of other people, though she herself was very independent and never complained about anything. Vera put her heart into everything, especially when it came to giving gifts. It didn't matter whether she was able to do her own shopping or someone had to shop for her, she put a lot of love and thought into each and every gift. Her grandchildren were always blessed with a cookie jar full of "cowboy cookies". She was the "magnet" that kept the family together no matter how many miles separated them. Vera will forever be in the hearts and minds of all she met and will be sorely missed.
She is survived by two sons, Rich (Doris) Hall of Elburn and John "Jack" Hall of Boca Raton, FL; one daughter, Geraldine Peterson of Elburn, IL; one daughter-in-law, Diana Hall of Tampa, FL; two nephews, Allan (Jean) Benson of Aurora, IL and David (Mary Nell) Benson of Houston, TX; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and a a lifetime friend, Agnes Dobson Wandling of Elburn as well as a family of friends.
She joins now her husband, Jerry; her parents; her sister, Mabel Benson; a son-in-law, Archie Peterson; two grandchildren, Deborah Nickels and Kris Peterson; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren DeGrand.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, on Sunday, January 14, 2001. A wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Fr. Charles Reichenbacher of the Marmion Abbey of Aurora, IL will officiate.
A Catholic Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church, Elburn. Fr. Charles Reichenbacher will officiate and interment will follow at St. Gall Cemetery.

Mindy Sue Huber
Mindy Sue Huber, 20, of Batavia, passed away, January 11, 2001 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was born May 27, 1980 in Davenport, Iowa to Timothy and Pamela (Porter) Huber.
Mindy was a 1999 graduate of Batavia High School. Following High School she attended Waubonsee Community College where she was studying sign language and wanted to become an interpreter for the deaf. Her love included auto racing and had spent many weekends with her parents that worked on the auto track rescue squad throughout western Illinois and eastern Iowa.
She is survived by her parents; paternal grandmother, Mary Jean Huber of East Moline; maternal grandmother, Nelda Porter of Bettendorf, IA; one aunt, Kay Huber of Geneva; two uncles, Dan (Gladys) Huber Jr. of Bend, OR and Rich Porter of Blue Grass, IA and many great aunts and great uncles.
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dan Huber Sr. and maternal grandfather, Robert Porter.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2001 at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL 60510. Rev. Jack Heraty will officiate.
Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Helen J. Phillips
Helen J. Phillips, age 90, of Sandwich, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at the Willowcrest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, Illinois. She was born on July 26, 1910 in Kendall County, Illinois, the daughter of William and Johanna (Reingardt) Merkel.
Mrs. Phillips was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Yorkville, Illinois, where she was baptized on August 21, 1910 by Reverend C.J. Lang and then later confirmed on April 13, 1924 by Reverend Eugene Ahl. Helen was united in marriage on October 1, 1949 by Reverend Erdmann Frenk at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Joliet, Illinois to Mr. Raymond Phillips and they spent many happy years together until his passing.
She is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Irene Phillips of Minooka, Illinois and Edna Merkel of Yorkville, Illinois; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond on December 21, 1974; her four brothers, William (in infancy), Albert, Edward and Elmer Merkel; and her two sisters, Alma Henne and Lydia Merkel.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville, Illinois with Pastor John Leaf of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Yorkville officiating. Interment will follow in the AuSable Grove Cemetery in Yorkville, IL.
