Lloyd E. Nelson
Lloyd E. Nelson, 81, of Aurora, Illinois passed away on Monday, January 15, 2001 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora. He was born on September 17, 1919 in Plano, Illinois, the son of Bert and Lena (Vanus) Nelson.
Lloyd was united in marriage on November 24, 1973 in Kendall County to the former Gladys Smith; and they spent the next 27 happy years together. Mr. Nelson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Mr. Nelson served as an Artillery Sargent with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII. While returning from service, his plane was shot down; and he was rescued and returned to the U.S. on the Queen Mary. Lloyd was a member at this time of the V.F.W. in Montgomery, Illinois.
Mr. Nelson was a very active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Montgomery, where he had served his church in many different capacities. Lloyd loved sports and over the years had been a member of his church's bowling, baseball and basketball teams. Lloyd had, for many years, owned and operated his own Paint Contractor business in Aurora. He was a member of Son's of Norway. Lloyd was active in Boy Scouting and had served as both a troop leader and commissioner. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports on television.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Aurora; his seven children, Lloyd (Michele) Nelson of New Mexico, Jim (Lou Ann) Nelson of Alaska, Cindy (Denny) Biggerstaff of Missouri, Janean (Mike) Felch of Wisconsin, Bill (Karen) Nelson of New Mexico, Roxanne (Max) Cazares of Elgin, Illinois and Cynthia Elsworth of Aurora; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Norman (Lorene) Nelson of Yorkville, Illinois and one sister, Lois (Robert) Johnson of California and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Mary, in November of 1998; five sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2001 at St. Olaf Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montgomery with Pastors Brian Pierceson and Robert Kasperson officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Yorkville.
Memorials in Lloyd's memory may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America.

Imas Ward Rice, M.D.
Imas Ward Rice, M.D., 80 of Aurora, passed away Monday, January 15, 2001 at Jennings Terrace. He was born September 7, 1920 in Oteen, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Lorayne Rice; one son, Brian Rice; one daughter, Susan Rice all of Aurora; one brother, Dr. J. Ransom (Jean) Rice of Leesburg, FL.; four sisters, Catherine Probst of Riverside, CA., Marian (Robert) Smith of Long Beach, CA., Vernice Hurd of Aurora, IL., and Florence Norell of Aurora; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a dear family friend, Stephen Sparlin of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Imas Pryor and Emma C. (Johnson) Rice; and one sister, Eleanor Rachielle.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 19, 2001 from THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY at 1:00 PM to Holy Angels Church at 1:30 PM. Fr. Dean Russell will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 18, 2001 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with The Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora, IL. 60506.

Anna Sowizdrzal
Anna Sowizdrzal, 95, of Peoria, AZ, formerly a resident of Aurora for 30 years, died January 10, 2001 in Sun City, AZ. She was born June 28, 1905 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late John and Mary Holub.
Anna was an active member of St. Anne's Unit 11 and Silver Threads of Holy Angels Church as well as the Golden Agers of Aurora.
Survivors include her daughter, Lorraine (George) Fotos of Peoria, AZ; proud grandmother to Vivian (Warren) Rose of Medina, Ohio and Julie Fotos of Brooklyn, New York; beloved great grandmother to Zachary and Ryan Rose, also of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter and son, Walt.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. from The Healy Chapel to Holy Angels Church for Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Joseph Nicolosi celebrant.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2001 from 3-7 p.m. at The Healy Chapel. 332 W. Downer Pl. Aurora. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Lucinda "Imogene" Bohrer
Lucinda "Imogene" Bohrer, 70, of Plano, passed away, Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at her home in Plano. She was born April 17, 1930 in West Salem, IL to Vernie and Elsie (Vaughn) Hasewinkle.
She married James R. Bohrer on June 15, 1952 at the Moravian Church in West Salem, IL. The couple moved to Plano in 1967. She was employed by the Plano School District in the cafeteria for 15 years and most recently by Lach Brazing and Soldering. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church. She loved cooking, entertaining and singing in the church choir.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; her son, Robert (Darla) Bohrer of Troy, Ohio; her daughter, Cindy (Ron) Jaudon of Batavia, Illinois and the joy of her life, her two granddaughters, Ellen and Madison Jaudon, as well as her brother, William L. Hasewinkle of Sumner, IL and her sister, Helen (Walter) Erhardt of Tavares, FL; also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Marianna Hasewinkle in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2001 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South Street in Plano. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 to 11:00 on Friday, January 19, 2001 at the First Lutheran Church in Plano.

Eunice L. Kitner, age 94, of Waterman, passed away on January 17, 2001 at Shabbona Health Care Center, Shabbona, Illinois.

Imas Ward Rice, M.D.
1920-2001
Imas Ward Rice, M.D., 80 of Aurora, passed away Monday, January 15, 2001 at Jennings Terrace. He was born September 7, 1920 in Oteen, N.C., the son of the late Dr. Imas Pryor and Emma (nee Johnson) Rice.
He was a practicing physician in Aurora for over 45 years after graduating from the University of Illinois Medical School. During his career, Dr. Rice was on staff at Provena Mercy, Rush-Copley and the former St. Charles Hospitals. He was a member of the American Medical Association; the Illinois State Medical Society and the Kane County Medical Society. He served as president of the board of Aurora Catholic Charities and the Aurora Serra Club. He was actively involved in numerous community organizations throughout the years. He was a member of St. Rita of Cascia Church until 1967 when he and his family joined Holy Angels parish.
Dr. Rice is survived by his devoted wife, Lorayne (nee Lenert) Rice; his loving children, Brian Imas Rice and Susan Elaine Rice, all of Aurora; one brother, Dr. J. Ransom (Jean) Rice of Leesburg, FL; four sisters, Catherine Probst of Long Beach, CA, Marion (Robert) Smith of Riverside, CA, Venice Hurd and Florence Norell, both of Aurora; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and a dear family friend, Stephen Sparlin of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eleanor Rachielle.

Helen Alsip
Helen Alsip, 69, of Aurora, Illinois, formerly of Geneva, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. She was born February 19, 1931 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Oscar and Forghild (nee Bjornstadt) Alsip.
Helen was a member of the Geneva Lutheran Church and was a First Lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict.
Mrs. Alsip was a Registered Nurse for fifty years, working at Community Hospital in Geneva, office nurse for Dr. McDonald in Geneva and retired from nursing at Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora. Following her retirement, Helen was a volunteer with VNA Hospice in Aurora.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil; one daughter, Mary of Warrenville, Illinois; one son, Charlie (Gail) Alsip of Cortland, Illinois; one grandson, Steven (Lisa) Alsip, Jr. of Bonita Springs, Florida; two granddaughters, Margaret and Audrey Alsip of Cortland.
Preceding her in death was a son, Steven in 1978.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 20, 2001 in the Yurs Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St. (Rt. 38), Geneva, IL. Rev. Paul Hammar will officiate. Burial will be private.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from noon until the funeral time.

Mamie Viola Caldwell
Mamie Viola Caldwell, 80, a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living of Naperville, IL., for the last year, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. She was born November 12, 1920 in Independence, Iowa and had been a resident of Naperville since 1952.
Mrs. Caldwell worked for several years at the Carbon Company in Naperville where she worked as an inspector and drill press operator. She was a member of the Naperville Moose Lodge #1290, AARP and Grace United Methodist Church since 1952.
She is survived by four daughters, Shirley (Thomas) Plumb of Lisle, IL., Barbara (Bill) Kubes of Downers Grove, IL., Virginia (Thomas) Vesely of Hinckley, IL., and Alice (Jerry) Graver of Plano, IL.; six brothers, Carl (Maybelle) Hare of Mission, Texas, Lewis Hare of Waterloo, IA., Everett Hare, Frank (Marion) Hare, Jr., James (Marie) Hare and Edward (Betty) Hare, all of Independence, IA.; one sister-in-law Ethel Hare of Rowley, IA.; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Adry (nee Jestes) Hare; her husband Leonard Emerson Caldwell; one brother Raymond Hare and one sister Clara Stock.

Janice J. Kestila
Janice J. Kestila, 81 of Sheridan, died Tuesday, January 16th at her daughter's home in Hinckley.
A memorial service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, January 21st with Rev. Stan Rapp officiating at the Larson-Gabel Funeral Home Ltd., 335 W. Church St., Sheridan, IL 60551-0027, phone 815-496-2003. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment of cremains will be at the Sheridan Cemetery at a later date.
Mrs. Kestila was born June 3, 1919 in Sheridan to George and Helen (Coppock) Ugland. She married William A. Kestila December 23, 1940 in Iowa. Bill died July 12, 1975. Jan and Bill owned and operated the Village Inn in Sheridan for many years. She was always very active in all of Sheridan's boards and committees including the Village of Sheridan Board, Sheridan Grade School Board, P.T.O., Women's Club and Sheridan's Sesquicentennial Celebration. She was also past president of the Sheridan Cemetery Association and had worked on the establishment of the Robert W. Rowe Public Library.
She is survived by her daughter, Kris (Dennis) Ohnstad of Hinckley; two grandchildren, Cora Ohnstad and Alek Ohnstad of Hinckley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William and a grandson, Arik Ohnstad.

Eunice Louise Gruben Kitner
Eunice Louise Gruben Kitner, age 94, of Waterman, passed away on January 17, 2001 at Shabbona Health Care Center, Shabbona, Illinois. She was born September 27, 1906 in Big Rock, Illinois the daughter of Frank and Ellen (Williams) Benjamin. She was in the first graduating class of the Big Rock High School and then continued on to graduate from the National Kindergarten College. Prior to her marriage Eunice taught in Muskegan, Michigan.
Eunice was united in marriage on December 12, 1928 in Big Rock, Illinois to Mr. Walter Gruben and they farmed and dairied together in the Hinckley-Waterman area for nearly four decades, until his passing on April 5, 1969. She was then later united in marriage on December 9, 1983 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Hinckley to Mr. LeRoy C. Kitner, who also preceded her in death on December 11, 1989.
Mrs. Kitner was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Hinckley, where she served as both its organist and a member of its Ladies Aid. Her unwavering faith has been an inspiration to all who were fortunate to know her. Eunice was formerly employed as a school teacher and will be remembered for starting and teaching the first Kindergarten class in Waterman. She was for many years a 4-H leader and was at one time the bookkeeper at the Ford garage.
Survivors include her children, Gloria (Robert) Alms, of Sun City, Arizona; and Robert W. (Sandy Bullis) Gruben of Paw Paw, Illinois; one step-daughter, Patricia (Earl) Krantz, of Tampico, Illinois; son-in-law, Dick (Jackie Marshall) of DeKalb, Illinois; step-daughter-in-law, Patricia Kitner of St. Charles, Illinois; her grandchildren, Kathy (Rich) Benad, David Marshall (Sherre Perkins), Patti (Dave) Pearson, Diana (John) McDonough, Janice (John) Powers, Cheryl (Jim) Merchant, Debby (Joe) Suddeth, Tim (Mary) and Tony (Kate) Gruben, Tammy (Mike) Otto, Terry Skaggs, Lou Ann (Chris) Denny, Linda (Larry) Hawbaker, and Lori (Larry) Elliot; step-grandchildren, Troy Kitner, Lori (Ardley) Tschetter, Brad (Carol) Krantz, and Cheryl Conklen; great-grandchildren, Brett Dupes, Dana (Jeff) Cox, Danny (Tara) Marshall, Josh (Kellie) and Brandon Merchant, Nickki McCoy, Jennifer Sundstrom, Tara and Cory Hornback, Shannon and Kyle Powers, Karlie and Sarah Pearson, Colton and Kendra Otto, Logan and Derick Skaggs, Bob Hawbaker, Erin and Daniel Elliott, and Patrick Denny, great-great-grandchildren, Jake Dupes, Megan, Trevor, and Amy Cox, Cody, Jordan, and Alexis Marshall, and Demontre and Malique McCoy; step-grandchildren; John, David, Daniel, Michael, and Lewis Krantz, Marguax Deutsch, and Alexander Tschetter; her sister Ida Mae Skow of Newark, Illinois; her two nieces Carol (Russell) Fruland, and Ione Martin and many friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands, her son Richie Gruben; daughters, Phyllis Gruben and Doris Marshall; grandson Randy Marshall, step-son James Kitner, her niece Marilyn Thanepohn and her brother-in-law Harold Skow.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hinckley, Illinois. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, in Hinckley, Illinois.

Robert N. Mitchell
Robert N. Mitchell, 83 of Venice, Florida, died at his home, January 15, 2001. Bob was born November 11, 1917 in Aurora, IL.
After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he lived most of his life in Brecksville, Ohio. He moved to Venice, Florida in 1982. After retiring from Quaker Oats as Regional Sales Manager with 32+ years of service.
His wife Dorothy (Mackie) Mitchell and his daughter Beverly Diane Weber preceded him in death.
Robert is survived by his fiance Mary Orth; his brother Gordon Mitchell; his grandchildren, Robert (Carol) Weber and Mark (Andrea) Weber; great-grandchildren, Kate, Patty, Stephen and Tyler.
Memorial Services will be held at a later day. "For the good times".

Winifred E. "Winnie" Swanson
Winifred E. "Winnie" Swanson, 84, of St. Charles passed away on Wednesday, January 17 at Aurora Manor. She was born on March 21, 1916 in Harvard, IL the daughter of the late William and Millie (Youngren) Everhart.
Winnie retired from Farmers Insurance after 23 years of service in 1983. At the time of her retirement, she had been residing in California. She then moved back to St. Charles in 1986. She loved sewing, crocheting, game shows and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include, her son Thomas (Linda) Swanson of Sugar Grove; five grandchildren, Derek (Jodi) Swanson of Batavia, Kurt (Amy) Swanson of Palatine, Troy (Lisa) Swanson of Wheaton, Tiffany Swanson of Arlington Heights and Amanda Figved of Aurora; two great grandchildren, Quincy and Luke Swanson of Batavia; three brothers, Bill (Jean) Everhart of Batavia; Delbert (Judy) Everhart of Aurora, and Robert (Pearl) Everhart of Surfside, South Carolina; two sisters, Charlotte Ferrill of Batavia and Beatrice McKeown of Batavia as well as a special sister-in-law Julie Swanson of St. Charles and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Winnie was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Swanson in 1995.
There will be no funeral service or visitation. A private graveside service will be held at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia. Rev. Gerald Rygh will officiate.
