William K. Lawrence, age 94 of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away February 7, 2001 at Mariner Health Care. He was born in Aurora, Illinois on July 21, 1906 and came to Winter Haven in 1969.
William retired from Commonwealth Edison Company and was a member of the Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Lawrence of Winter Haven, FL.
There was a memorial service on Saturday, February 10 at the Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven, FL.

Elizabeth Lopez, 14, of Aurora, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 in Rockford. She was born on December 1, 1986 in Aurora.
Elizabeth is survived by her parents, Jose Luis & Rosa (Navarro) Lopez; her brother, Mauro Lopez; her sister, Rosalba Lopez; a niece, Anastasia; a nephew, Marcelino all of Aurora; and her maternal grandmother in Mexico.

Hannah Marie Ostrem
Mrs. Hannah Marie Ostrem, 97 of Pleasant View Luther Home, formerly of Newark, died Wednesday, February 21st at Pleasant View Luther Home
Mrs. Ostrem was born December 30, 1903 in Stoughton, Wisconsin to Ever and Ragnhilda Everson. She married Rev. Benjamin T. Ostrem June 7, 1933 in Stoughton. Rev. Ostrem died March 16, 1977. She was a member of the Newark Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one son, Paul (Jule) Ostrem of Hot Springs, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Benjamin Ostrem and a son David Ostrem.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 24th with Pastor Charles Sampson officiating at the Larson-Gabel Funeral Home Ltd., 102 S. Johnson St., Newark, IL 60541-0623, phone 815-695-5131. Burial will be at the Millington-Newark Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-11 am Saturday at the funeral home.

Marian V. Porter
Marian V. Porter, 87, of Aurora, IL passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at Jennings Terrace.
She was born April 12, 1913 in Aurora. She was educated in the West Aurora Schools and was a strong believer in continuing education. She attended Aurora College, Waubonsee Community College, and Chicago Conservatory College. In 1932 she married Allen W. Porter and they were married for 56 years prior to his death in 1989. She was a cradle roll member of the First Baptist Church of Aurora and through the years was active in the IHS, the Seeker's Sunday School class, and the Tabitha Circle. She served on the building and grounds committee.
Mrs. Porter was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for 62 years, having the distinction of being the oldest Girl Scout living in Aurora. She was a leader of troops at First Baptist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church. She was the craft counselor at Camp Blackhawk for many years, going by the nickname of Kristi. She served on the camp committee and was a craft consultant. She felt the training she received from the Girl Scouts equaled a college education.
She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Woman's Club Conservation and Garden Department, the Cottage Garden Club, and the Gateway Garden Club. She enjoyed nature crafts, dried flowers and silk flower arranging.
Much of her adult life was devoted to doing her family history. She was a member of the G.A.R. Mrs. Porter was Historian/Librarian for the West Aurora Cemetery Association. Along with her husband, she camped and traveled throughout the United States; and belonged to the NCHA, The Wandering Fox Camping Club, and the Good Sam Club. She was an honorary member of the Barber-Greene Hunting and Fishing Club, which was founded by Mr. Porter.
Mrs. Porter was a piano teacher who truly enjoyed each of her students. She played piano, the dulcimer and the autoharp.
Survivors include: a daughter, Maribelle Neal of Aurora; two grandsons: Allen (Cynthia) Neal of Oconto Falls, WI, and Andrew Neal of Aurora; a granddaughter, Cindy (Keith) Wilson of Somonauk; three great-grandsons: Zachary and Clayton Neal of Wisconsin and Michael Wilson of Somonauk; two brothers: Robert (Martha) Brown of Elkhorn, WI and Richard (Phyllis) Brown of Cheney, KS; a special niece, Marilayn Ruble of Mishawaka, IN; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews; a brother-in-law, Gordon Porter of Bartlett, IL; and a special friend, Joseph Lee of Aurora.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Earle and Cora (Ingraham) Brown; a sister, Mildred Kenner; a son-in-law, Edward Neal.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2001, at 10 a.m. from the Healy Chapel in Aurora. The Rev. Timothy Baltz will officiate. Interment will be at West Aurora Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, on Friday, February 23, from 3-7 p.m. Contributions in Mrs. Porter's name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Aurora.

Kenneth Shumway
Age 76, of Sandwich, Illinois passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at Provena Mercy Center Aurora, Illinois.
He was born April 12, 1924 in Alamo, Nevada the son of Elijah and Ila (Von Ohlen) Shumway. He served with the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre. He married Mary Farley on December 14, 1946 in Leland. Ken farmed and was a cattle feeder for many years. He was a 50-year member of the VFW and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sandwich. He had served on the Hubbard School Board, the Sandwich School Board and had been the Northville Twp. Clerk. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday February 25, 2001 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich with Pastor Gregory Mayer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday February 24, 2001 at the Turner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Memorials in Kenneth Shumway's name may be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church, the Federated Church of Sandwich, Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, Older Adult Services in Sandwich or a charity of the donors choice.
He is survived by his wife Mary, three children Gene (Linda Legner) Shumway, Connie (Greg) Hanson and Candi (David) Baker, 9 grandchildren Regina Congrave, Jaime Hanson, Tage Shumway, Kimbria Shumway, Marisa Hanson, Bret Shumway, Brent Baker, Jesse Hanson, Kelsey Baker, two brothers, Robert (Margaret) Shumway and Richard (Betty) Shumway both of Leland. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon L. Swaney Jr. "Snoopy"
Gordon L. Swaney Jr., age 56, passed away on Wednesday at Countryside Care Center. He was a long time resident of Aurora.
Loving father of Robyn Swaney of Gardner, MA., Heidi (James) Lemmer of Winchedton, MA., and Michael Swaney of Leominster, MA. Proud grandfather of two grandsons and one granddaughter. Fond brother of John Swaney of Leominster, Ross Swaney of Leominster, Rose Swaney of Las Vegas, Arnold Swaney of Aurora, Geraldine Swaney of IL. and Joyce (Hagerty) Hill of Kentucky. Also survived by Patricia Swaney, mother of his children; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceded in death by his nephew Patrick Swaney of Leominster, MA.; his parents Marion (Pelton) Swaney and Gordon Swaney Sr.; his grandparents Walter and Mary Swaney, and Mr. and Mrs. Pelton.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, February 23 at 3:00 PM at North Aurora Community Center, North Aurora, IL.

Robert C. Burch, Sr.
Robert C. Burch, Sr., 79, of Montgomery, passed away quietly with his family by his side, Thursday, February 22, 2001 at Rush Copley Hospital. He was born April 25, 1921 in Aurora.
Mr. Burch was a member of Lord of Life Church, Montgomery V.F.W. Post #7452, Aurora Tiger Club, Aurora Eagles Club, Amvet Post #103, a member of the Navy League and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
Mr. Burch is survived by his daughter, Judy (Gordon) Plohr of Oswego; two sons, Robert (Sharon) Burch, Jr. of West Chicago and Terry (Anne) Burch of Montgomery; seven grandchildren, two of whom, Alberta and Robert raised themselves; Lori (Tony) Bedwell of Oswego and Lisa (Chris) Mackey of Montgomery, Missy (Chad) Memming of Aurora, Jason Plohr of Oswego, Justin (Melissa) Plohr, Chris Burch and Rich Burch, all of Montgomery; six great grandchildren, Tyler Memming of Aurora, Alyssa Plohr of Montgomery, Luke Bedwell and Abigail Bedwell both of Oswego, Joshua and Cody Mackey both of Montgomery; three sisters, Eunice, Sarah and Jenny and one brother, John and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise Catherine Burgholzer, 85, of Wausau, WI, died Monday, February 19, 2001 at Wausau Hospital. She was born April 17, 1915 in Aurora, IL to the late Joseph and Jennie (Schiltz) Ambre. Louise married William Burgholzer on June 27, 1934 in Aurora, IL. They owned the Port Aurora Resort on Moen Lake in Rhinelander, WI. For many years, she was hostess at the Claridge Inn in Rhinelander.
She is survived by a son William (Kitty) Burgholzer of Sugar Grove, IL, four daughters Janet (William) Lawrence of Somonauk, IL, Elaine DeHaan of Ft. Meyers, FL, Mary (Ted) Worth of Riverside, CA, and Marie (Kevin) Heinking of Wausau, WI; 23 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; five sisters Eleanor Zander of Calimesa, CA, Antoinette (William) Sachen of Auburn, IN, Leanore Smith of Southgate, CA, Earlene (Peter) Petit of Maple Park, IL, Teresa Ambre of Maple Park, IL, four sisters-in-law Frances and Irene Ambre of California, Rita Ambre of Illinois, and Joan Ambre of Arizona.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband William; her daughter Kay Manning-Osenbaugh; five brothers; two sisters and four brothers-in-law.

Mary Rita Kelley (nee Farley)
Mary Rita Kelley, age 86, of North Oaks, MN, died February, 15, 2001.
Mary Rita taught in Aurora (West) IL Schools for many years and continued thereafter as a literary and English teacher with special concern for women and Hispanics. She was delighted to receive the first Life Membership from the Tuesday Garden Club of Aurora.
Survived by her sons, John (Bonnie) and Daniel (Cheryl); grandchildren, John (Audrey), Patrick, Ann, Timothy and Heather; great-grandchildren, Brian and Megan.
Preceded in death by her sister, Helen Williamson; her brother, Clare.
Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2001 at Holy Angels Church, located at Lancaster Ave. and Hardin Ave. in Aurora, IL.

Louise F. Schmidt
Louise F. Schmidt, 81, of Elburn, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2001 at her residence. She was born January 20, 1920 in Naperivlle Township, the daughter of John and Anna (nee-Schuster) Frieders.
Louise was a devoted homemaker for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, living through the many triumphs and hardships of farm life. She cherished her times spent with family and friends. Strong in her personal faith in God, she was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Geneva.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Lonna) Schmidt of Elburn; daughters, Ruthanne (Gary) Lewis of Merrimac, WI and Jean (John) Abner of Elburn; grandchildren, Brett (DeAnn) Lewis, Brian (Joni) Lewis, Lori (Chuck) Fiene, Brad (Angee) Lewis, Jim (Beth) Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, Kelly (Matt) Durbala, Jason Abner, Jodi (Cory) Hauser, Joy and Julie Abner; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Schmidt of Aurora, Sister Mary Christina R.S.M. of Aurora; brothers, Carl Frieders of Aurora and Roy (Elaine) Frieders of Naperville; sisters in-law, Ceil Schwickert of Warrenville and Leone Schmidt of Warrenville.
She was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband of 58 years, Joseph and sisters, Leona, Gracie and Sister Mary Christine R.S.M.

Norma C. Shearer, 74, of St. Charles, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva.
She was born April 29, 1926, the daughter of Carl Walter and Esther Maggie (Redborg) Carlson.
She married Richard D. Shearer on Nov. 17, 1956 and was a member of Questers Antique Group.
Mrs. Shearer is survived by five cousins, John (Pat) Wenstrand of Birmingham, Mich., Thomas Wenstrand of New York City, N.Y., Betty Lou Rellahan of Cincinnati, Ohio, Janet Samuels of St. Charles; and James Winston; many other relatives; and her beloved Boxer, Bo.
In addition to her parents, formerly of Batavia, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard on June 26, 1994.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 at Prairie Cemetery, St. Charles Twp.

Ann C. Williamson, 70, of Aurora passed away Thursday, February 22, 2001 at Fox River Pavilion in Aurora. She was born July 26, 1930 in Italy to her parents, Dominic and Giovianna (Nigritto) Ferrara.
She is survived by her daughter, GinaRo' Williamson of Aurora; six grandchildren, William, Michael, Joshua, Luis, Moses, Dominic; three sisters, Lee Penkala of Florida, Lou (Alky) Wojetch of Florida and Rosemary Ferrara of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel; one daughter, Jenny; one sister, Mary Campbell and two brothers, Vincent and Joseph Ferrara.

Emma Rose "Bea" Dawson Carlson
Emma Rose "Bea" Dawson Carlson, 83, formally of North Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2001 at her home. She was born on April 20, 1917, the daughter of John and Mary (Piazza) Finn, in Elm Springs, Arkansas.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in North Aurora, Illinois. For many years she was employed with Amerock Corporation in Rockford, Illinois, and worked as a self-employed beautician from 1957-1972. She was an accomplished woman of great energy, talent and enthusiasm who loved being with people. She cared deeply for others giving endlessly of her time in volunteer work. She enjoyed an active lifestyle of gardening, card games, bowling, dancing, golfing, and hiking. She was involved with senior tour groups and often served as a guide for Capital Tours. She started three bridge clubs, which are still active in Batavia and N. Aurora. She and Eric were involved with Moose Lodge #0-83 in Batavia, IL. She was a member of the Aurora Women's Club, Square Dance and Ballroom Dance Clubs and the Association of Seamstress'. She most enjoyed time spent with close friends and loving family members.
Bea was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Sam) Maggio, of Rockford, Illinois; her grandchildren, Raydene (Tim) Konkel, Roberta (Denny) Sprague, Frank Maggio, Deborah (Christopher) Jones, Judith (James) Buckner and Patrick (Tina) Maggio; and her great grandchildren, Tony Magnussen, K. Autumn Jones, Holly M. Jones, Nickolas M. Maggio, Michael P. Maggio, James D. Buckner III, and Allysa A. Buckner; her brother, James (Rosie) Finn of Springdale, Arkansas; as well as several nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eric Carlson; her son, Raymond H. Dawson; her brothers, Eugene, Luciano, Lawrence, James, Bernard and Floyd; her sisters, Paulina, Albina, Palmarina, Angelina, Josephine and Virginia.
She touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 801 Oak St., North Aurora. Monsignor Edward S. Wright will officiate. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Rockford, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rockford, IL at a later date.
