Maria L. Chavez-Mares
Maria L. Chavez-Mares, 61, of Montgomery, IL passed away on Monday, March 26, 2001 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. She was born March 29, 1939 in Monterray, Mexico.
She retired from Western Electric after 15 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, Nickolas; children, Nickolas, Jr. (Angelica Palacios) Mares of Montgomery, Yasmine Torres of Naperville, Fernando Mares of Montgomery and Yaira Mares of Aurora; grandchildren, Desiree, Devier, Nikko, Adrian, Jeremy, Christiani, Acassia and Little Adrian; one sister and three brothers.
She was preceded in death by her son, Adrian.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home. 44 S. Mill St., Naperville with Pastor Bill Coltharp of the First Apostolic Church of Aurora officiating. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora.

Elizabeth "Elsie" Cholewa
Elizabeth "Elsie" Cholewa, 76, of Leesburg, Florida formerly of Montgomery, passed away on March 14, 2001. She was born April 3, 1924 in Lyons, Illinois.
She was retired from AT&T in Montgomery. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 84, Aurora. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Cholewa of Leesburg, Florida; her daughters, Elizabeth (Kirk) Weisbrod and Mary (Tim) Kenner; her sons, Michael (Sharon) Cholewa and Marty Cholewa; sisters, Wilma Ptak and Helen O'Connell; grandchildren, Tiffany Cholewa, Joe Cholewa and Katie Weisbrod.
Services were held at St. Mary of the Lakes Church in Leesburg, Florida.

George K. Cies
George K. Cies, 59, of Waterman, IL, died unexpectedly Monday morning, March 26, 2001 following an apparent heart attack at his home.
Visitation will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Waterman, Wednesday, March 28, 2001 from 3 to 8 PM and Thursday morning from 10 AM until time of service.
His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Thursday at the church where Pastor Scott Merchant will officiate, joined by family friend, the Rev. Dr. Linsey Bates of the Geneva Unitarian Church. Interment will follow at Johnson Grove Cemetery, Waterman.

Manuela Guajardo, born in Hidalgo, Texas on July 5, 1924 has passed away on Monday, March 26, 2001 at North Woods Care Center in Belvidere, IL.
She is survived by one sister, Belen Gonzalez of San Juan Texas; and her ten children, Hilda (Lloyd) Brandt of Casa Grande, AZ., Jesus Martinez of Mission, TX., Anna Martinez of Casa Grande, AZ., Jose Luis (Judy) Martinez of Azle, TX., Yolanda (Agapito) Romero of Carpentersville, IL.,Arturo (Linda) Galvez of Salinas, CA., Blanca (Jorge) Aviles of Elgin, IL., Leticia (Ramon) Perez of Harvard, IL., Albino G. (Frances Y.) Garcia Jr. of Albuquerque, NM. and Guadalupe (Jose M.) Villa of Aurora, IL.
Manuela is also survived by her 36 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was an active member of Templo Sinai Church located in Belvidere, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Eloisa Guajardo; six sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be held at the 1st Baptist Church at 12th and Oak St. in St. Charles, IL. on Thursday, March 29, 2001 from 3:00-7:00 PM. Officiating are Pastor Patrick T. Stewart and Pastor Gilberto Gonzalez with the Funeral at 7:00 PM.

Richard A. "Dick" Haussmann
Richard Allen Haussmann, age 71, of Montgomery, Illinois, passed away on March 26, 2001 at Rush Copley Medical Center. He was born on March 22, 1930 in Aurora, IL, the son of George and Hazel (Burrington) Haussmann.
Richard was a graduate of East Aurora High School, class of 1948. After high school, Richard worked for the Stoner Manufacturing Company and Fox Valley Blueprint. In December of 1950 he joined the Air Force. He was discharged in December of 1954 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He returned to Aurora and to his job at Fox Valley Blueprint. On March 1, 1957, Richard moved across the street to join the staff at the Old Second National Bank. He spent 18 years as a teller and also worked in the marketing, advertising and public relations departments while continuing his teller duties. For 20 years Richard wrote and produced the bank's radio commercials, and, due to his distinctive voice, he was also the voice of the Old Second National Bank on those commercials. In 1975 Richard became the Advertising and Marketing officer. His "Discovery" series of ads, where he portrayed such characters as Santa Claus, a pirate, and an astronaut among others, will long be remembered. Richard became the vault manager in 1982, a position he held until his retirement in June of 1995.
Richard will also be remembered as the narrator for the American Legion Band since 1969, and as the host of Music Under the Stars, the Aurora Summer Band Series sponsored by the Fox Valley Park District, since 1975. A familiar face in local theatre, Richard appeared in shows with such groups as the Aurora Drama Guild, the Boulder Hill Playhouse, The Stage Company, Ltd., The Albright Theatre in Batavia, and the Pheasant Run Playhouse in St. Charles. For the past three years, Richard and his partner, Ed Young, have performed Readers Theatre productions for senior citizens groups throughout Northern Illinois and Indiana.
He was an antique buff and was quite knowledgeable about it-especially concerning his beloved Aurora Silverplate. In his spare time he was part of the Old Timers Antique Center in Sandwich, IL.
Richard served as a Chaplain for Gen. Phillip H. Sheridan, Camp #2, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and also the Aurora Post 20, Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Association. He was also Chaplain for the Department of Illinois S.U.V.C.W. and the Chicago Light Artillery "Battery A".
Richard was very active with the Aurora Historical Society and was serving on their board when they were approached by the G.A.R. to help start up a Civil War Era Ball. For 14 years he had a wonderful time helping to plan this fund-raiser. The Aurora Historical Society honored Richard on March 24, 2001 at their annual banquet when they bestowed upon him their first ever Lifetime Achievement Award. Mayor David Stover also proclaimed March 24, 2001 as "RICHARD S. HAUSSMANN DAY".
Richard was very involved at New England Congregational Church in Aurora. He was a mentor to many confirmands, and participated in various holiday celebrations at the church.
He is survived by his brother, George F. (Ruth) Haussmann of Plant City, FL, three nephews, C. David (Jan) Guenther of Galesburg, IL, Lawrence (Paula) Haussmann of Columbia, SC, and Stephen Haussmann of Athens, GA. He is also survived by many special friends, or his "unfamily" as Richard liked to call them. His "unfamily" includes: Rick and Cindy (Hardy) Pierce of Aurora, Richard "Bud" and Pat Cederoth of Oswego, Ed and June Young of North Aurora, Don and Pat Hoffmann of Aurora, Venice Hurd of Aurora, Ed and Betty Reuland of Montgomery, Tim and Beth Corrigan of Lisle, IL and Barbara Corrigan Fearibach of Blooming Grove, NY.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret Babbitt of Galesburg, IL and a brother, Charles L. Haussmann of Aurora.
Visitation will be held at the Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway, Montgomery, IL from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, March 29, 2001. Funeral Services will take place at 1:00pm on Friday March 30, 2001 at the Dieterle Memorial Home. The Reverend Gary McCann, Reverend Michael Simmons, and Mr. Joe Dunham will officiate. Burial will take place at the Lincoln Memorial Park in Oswego, IL.

Owen D. Jaffke
Mr. Owen D. Jaffke, 71 of Montgomery, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Provena Mercy Center. He was born on August 14, 1929 in Aurora the son of the late Fredrick and Lillian (Kollmann) Jaffke.
Owen was a member of the Aurora Moose #400, Amvets, VFW, Turner Club, Tiger Club, Phoenix Club and the Irish Club.
Mr. Jaffke is survived by two daughters, Cindi Edwards of Conway, Arkansas and Lynn (Paul) Schroder of St. Charles; three grandchildren, Zachary, Samuel and Elizabeth Edwards; a brother, W.W. "Jeff" (Arlene) Jaffke of Rochelle; a sister Marilyn (T. Robert) Lawrence of North Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Lillian Jaffke and a brother Fred Jaffke.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. from the Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl, Aurora with Rev. Greg Lafferty officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2001 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Healy Chapel.

Marjorie E. McCabe
Marjorie E. McCabe, 76, of Aurora passed away peacefully, Monday, March 26, 2001, at Rush-Copley Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born August 19, 1924 in Aurora, the daughter of the late Frank V. and Florence E. (Greene) Thompson.
Mrs. McCabe is survived by three daughters: Susanne McCabe-Pearce, Mary McCabe, and Katie (Jim) Rechenmacher, all of Aurora; three sons: Michael (Linda) McCabe of Crestwood, KY, Kevin (Karen) McCabe of Johnstown, OH, and John (Nancy) McCabe of Elwood, IL; ten grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a sister, Bette Proctor of Oregon, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert McCabe (1980); a daughter, Sherry Grimm; a grandson, Michael Grimm; a granddaughter, Magdalena Rechenmacher; and a brother, Frank Thompson.
Funeral services for Mrs. McCabe will be private.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alberti and Dr. Kola, and their staff, for the loving care and warmth that they have extended to Mrs. McCabe during her illness.

Michael H. Smith
Michael H. Smith, 76, of Somonauk, formerly of Aurora, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001 at his home.
He was born March 26, 1925 in Aurora. Mr. Smith was a Navy veteran of WW II and was a member of the L.O.O.M. #1016, the V.F.W. Post #7452 in Montgomery, the American Legion Post #395 in Plano, and, the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Union Local #74.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Riley) Smith of Somonauk; four daughters: Marilyn (Donald) Sweitzer, Susan (John) O'Brien, Lori (Michael) Gray, and Anita (Scott) Zimmerman; two sons: Patrick (Purita) Smith and Timothy (Kim) Smith; 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Smith; a sister, Ruth Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. and Florence (Ingraham) Smith; two daughters, Judy and Tina Smith; a brother, Carl Smith; and a sister, Muriel McCrimmon.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2001 at 10 a.m. at The Daleiden High Street Mortuary. Fr. David Palmatier, O.S.B. will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Elizabeth Anne Sperry, 74 of Sun City, AZ and a former resident of Naperville died Monday, March 26, 2001 at her home.
She was born June 6, 1926 in Burlington, Iowa. She worked at the Naperville National Bank for 35 years and retired to Arizona.
She is survived by a son Tom (Ginny) Sperry of Peoria, AZ; two daughters Terri (Ron) Lesniak of Santa Cruz, CA and Sherri Sperry of Warrenville, IL; one brother George (Sharon) Benoche of CA; Fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Mary (nee Carlson) Benoche; her husband William Sperry and by one son Michael Lee Sperry.

Jelita Pearl Bivins
Jelita Pearl (Blanchard) Bivins, 67, of Aurora passed away Monday, March 26, 2001 at her home, surrounded by many loved ones.
She was born May 10, 1933 in Madisonville, KY to Benjamin and Elizabeth Blanchard. Jelita was Granny to many children in the neighborhood and Lincoln School where she worked for a time in the lunchroom. She was Aunt Sissy to many and a friend to all. Jelita was a homemaker and staying home to take care of her family and playing with her grandkids was what gave her great joy. She loved doing crafts and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls to give to grandkids and the kids she thought needed them. Jelita was a wonderful, great, kind, loyal, true, very beloved, Wife, Momma, Granny and Aunt.
Jelita is survived by her husband of 50 years, Claud Ross Bivins; three sons: Rusty (Pam) Bivins and John (Jennifer) Bivins of Aurora, and Danny (Linda) Bivins of Somonauk; six daughters: Regina (Scott) Swanson of Bartonville, IL, Pamela King, Patty Hoerth, Amy (Dennis) Wright, Penny (Blaine) Runyon, and Sally (Russ) Emrick, all of Aurora; her sisters: Dorthy Woodring of Missouri, Neveline Bivins and Jewel (Bob) Brown, both of Madisonville, KY. She was blessed with 26 grandchildren: Nick, Ross, Julia, Amber, Aaron, Tally (Chris), Leva, Diane (Kevin), Dennis, Tommy, Joey, Little Danny, Desirae, Jackie, Cathy, Lisa, Stan, Ray, Josh, Jenny, Scott, Jordan, Jake, Alyssa, Sara, and Luke; she has seven great-grandchildren: Baby Dennis, Nicole, Clayton, Jourdan, Andy, Alex, and Allison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Fields and Elizabeth Blanchard; a son, Kenneth Wayne Bivins; a brother, Joseph "Buddy" Blanchard; three sisters: Jean Riddle, Helen Barber, and Mae Blanchard. She was also preceded by three grandsons: Brandon David Morrisette, Cody Wright, and Gavin Russel Bivins.
She was the best wife and momma in the world. We will miss her deeply.
"As giving testament to the number of people who in the last few weeks have passed through the hospital, her home, and considering all those who were unable to make it, Jelita's life has had an influence on an extraordinarily large number of lives. That influence has molded some in small ways and others in a very large way for what we've become. Although she may no longer exist as we know her, because of the large numbers of young, and those who raising them included in that number of lives she shaped, her spirit will be living on for many years to come".

James M. Jones
James M. Jones, 55, of Aurora, passed away peacefully, Wednesday March 28, 2001 at home with family, friends and his Vitas Hospice nurse at his side. He was born January 14, 1946 in Aurora, IL.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of West Aurora High School in 1964, a U.S. Army Veteran 1968 to 1970 serving in Korea DMZ, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was employed over the years at Vendo Co., R&M Kaufmann Dress Co. and most recently at Chek-Lab, Inc. Mr. Jones was a member The Lucky 50 Club, Phoenix Club, Turner Club and Amvets. He loved nature, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marjorie R. (Thill) Jones of Aurora; his mother and father-in-law, William (Rose) Thill of Aurora; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Ronald) Woodward of Aurora, Cynthia (Rick) Stoiber of Oswego and Deborah (Daniel) Retterer of Bristol; a brother-in-law, William (Debbie) Thill of Sugar Grove; many nieces and nephews; innumerable devoted friends and both former and current co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert B. and Elizabeth H. (Tanner) Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. from THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY to Holy Angels Church at 10 a.m. Fr. Martin Heinz will officiate with interment in Riverside Cemetery, Montgomery. Beulah E. (Pepple) LaBolle
Beulah E. (Pepple) LaBolle age 81 of rural Sandwich, IL passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at her home.
She was born September 23, 1919 in Bluford, IL the daughter of Joseph Raymond and Winnie E. (Davis) Pepple. Beulah was united in marriage to Roy Miles LaBolle on July 16, 1938. She was a member of the Somonauk Baptist Church in Somonauk and was active in the jolly 60's club of the church. Beulah was a tax assessor for Northville Twp., LaSalle County for many years. She spent time helping other people in need, whether it was dropping them a note, visiting them or running an errand for them, she was always helping others.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Donald) Meyer of Mt. Home, AR, Deborah (Michael H.) She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 1973, a brother-in-law Ralph Bushnell, sister-in-law Hazel and her husband Roger Nelson.
Funeral services for Beulah will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Somonauk Baptist Church, Somonauk, IL, Pastor D. Scott Linnerud will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 30, 2001 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL. Arrangements by Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL. 815-786-2165
