Walter E. Blaess, age 82, died July 19, 2002 at his home.
He was born and raised in Joliet and has lived in New Lenox for the last 45 years. He was a World War II Veteran serving with the 5th Marines Iwo Jima. Retired fire lieutenant at Argonne National Laboratories after 34 years.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Blaess (nee Beck); 3 sons, James, Thomas, and Christopher Blaess; and one daughter, Carol (James) Carlton.
He was preceded in death by his parents Amandus and Clara (nee Buchar) Blaess; and two sons, Walter J. and David Blaess; one sister, Marie (John Stonich); and one brother, Robert Blaess.
Private funeral services were held at Hickey Memorial Chapel, New Lenox, July 23, 2002. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Joliet. Memorials to Joliet Area Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

Carrie May Cupp
Age 14, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, late of New Lenox.
Survived by her parents, Robert and Carol (Airoldi) Cupp, one brother John Cupp; maternal grandparents; John and Diana Airoldi, her maternal great grandmother, Katherine Buck, maternal great-grandparents; Anthony and Lena Airoldi, and her paternal grandparents; Robert and Joyce Cupp. Also survived by her aunts; Joanna Airoldi, Rita Cupp, and Rachel Rutherford, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Born in Chicago, living in New Lenox all of her life. She was a student at Alex M. Martino Jr. High School.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, Cedar at Francis Rds. Services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Mokena United Methodist Church. She will be lying in state beginning at 9:30 until time of services, which will be at 10:00am, with the Rev. Lora Going Officiating. Interment will be Maplewood Cemetery in New Lenox. Memorials to Easter Seals of Will County, or Children's Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.

Orrin King Dowse
Age 80, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2002. born in Chicago. Former resident of Joliet, attended Joliet Central High School. He was a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. Orrin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as Chief Petty Officer. He was employed by the Buick Division of General Motors and the Norris Grain Co. of Chicago.
Preceded in death by his parents, Orrin Skeate Dowse and Margaret King Dowse; and a sister, Molly Dowse Scofield.
He is survived by a brother, John Dowse of Sevierville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 75 W. Van Buren, Joliet, on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 11:00 AM.
Inurnment Oakwood Cemetery, Joliet. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.

Marty attended Hufford Jr. High School receiving high honors, also a member of the track team, an altar boy at St. Ambrose Church and an avid bicyclist. He was employed part time at Dave's Bikes, Etc.

John Thomas Gimpel
Age 87, died July 20, 2002. John was a native of Joliet, Illinois.
He received his art training at the Chicago Art Institute and began his career at the P.F. Volland Company in Joliet and later became Vice President, Art Director. He moved to Cincinnati in 1959 and joined Gibson Greeting Cards, where he served as Managing Art Director.
Beloved husband of Marjorie Gimpel (nee Kane). Devoted father of Jon T. (Mary) Gimpel and Kathy (Joseph) DeAngelo of Cincinnati, Ohio. Brother of Joseph Gimpel (deceased), Robert Gimpel, and Ann Dunn, all of Joliet, Illinois. Beloved grandfather of Caitlin and John (Paige) Gimpel, and Joseph DeAngelo. Great grandfather of Elizabeth and Benjamin Gimpel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude's Church in Madeira. Visitation will precede the service at 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8226 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. Age 54. Passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 22, 2002 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. born in Glen Dale, WV on September 11, 1947. A former Romeoville resident; she resided in Dawsonville, GA for 15 years before moving back to the Joliet area one year ago.
Beloved mother of the late Sonya Rene Holsey, Mirinda (William) Ashley of Elwood, Bill Holsey of Joliet and Joseph (Crystel) Holsey of Dawsonville, GA; proud and devoted grandmother of Jeremy Holsey of Elwood, Nichole Crow; Jacqueline, Marina and Austin Ashley of Elwood; Gage, Hunter and Kirsten Holsey of Dawsonville, GA. Also survived by her father, Richard Bartsch of McMechon, WV; two brothers, Dan (Jane Ann) Bartsch and David Bartsch both of McMechon, WV. Fond aunt of Richie, Christopher and Jenny Bartsch.
Preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Bartsch; daughter, Sonya Rene Holsey; infant son, Joseph Lloyd Holsey; and maternal grandmother, Frances Kuprowicz.

Age 80, of Joliet, July 21, 2002. born in Joliet, a lifelong resident. Employed by Joliet Wrought Washer Works for 40 years, retiring in 1985.
Preceded in death by his wife, Antonina Hylek; and a sister, Catherine Juban.
Survived by two brothers: Ted (Roslyn) Hylek of Lockport and Peter Hylek of Joliet; and a brother-in-law, Ed Juban of Lockport. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Of Crest Hill, passed away at Deerbrook Care Center, Monday, July 22, 2002. Age 93 years.
Survived by her son, Richard (MaryJane) Knupp of Minooka, her daughter, Dorothy (Willis, deceased) Couch of Joliet. Seven grandchildren: Robert (Debra) Couch, Shirley Condon, Ronald (Jeannine McMahon) Couch, Richard (Sherri) Knupp, Martin Knupp, Jody (Jack) Kemp, and Judy (Jeff) Hines. Eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A brother, Robert Werner of Joliet, and two sisters, Vera Tibble and Hazel McCarney, both of Joliet.
Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul Knupp (1974), a grandson, Donald Couch (1981), and a grandson, Richard Couch, in infancy.
Born January 6, 1909 in New Lenox, IL. Formerly worked at the Joliet Ammunition Plant and Hart, Shaffner and Marx. Former member of Trinity Methodist Church. Wilma was an avid Bingo player at St. Mary Nativity, and a Cubs fan.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, July 25, at 10 a.m. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
