Evelyn L. Davis
Evelyn L. Davis, age 70, of Kaneville, walked quietly from this world, leaving behind a fragile body and a struggle with cancer to the arms of her heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Evelyn was born on November 7, 1930 in Aurora, IL., the daughter of Harold and Pauline (Stonecipher) Underwood.
She grew up in Kaneville and attended local schools. She graduated from Kaneville High School in 1948. After graduation she worked with her father at Lyon Metal Products in Montgomery. While Harold toiled in the shop, Evelyn worked in the office for over ten years.
Evelyn met Kenneth Davis when they were freshmen in high school. Ken went off to college and when he returned to work on the family farm, they rekindled their friendship. On January 28, 1956, Evelyn was married to Kenneth Davis at the Kaneville United Methodist Church in Kaneville. They began their new life together on a farm north of Elburn. Ken would tend to the fields, while Evelyn tended to the home and raised a family. In 1962, they moved to the present family farm on Lasher Rd. in Kaneville.
Even though Evelyn dedicated her life to taking care of her husband and children, she possessed natural talent that was present even in high school. She and Ken were among the best athletes in school. Evelyn had the ability to stand at half court in the Kaneville gymnasium and "hit nothing but net". During the winter she loved to ice skate on Welch Creek which ran through out all of Kaneville. Maybe it was on these escapades that her love for nature and animals grew into a passion. She loved all animals, especially cats and she had a natural eye for photography. Evelyn took breath-taking pictures of the world around her and wrote about it with her gift of poetry that will be treasured for many years to come.
She leaves her loving son, Keith (Audra Vogler) of Elburn; and her daughter, Susan (Mark) Warner of Eaton Rapids, MI.; one sister-in-law, Helen Underwood of Elburn; several nieces and nephews; and a community of friends.
She joins now her husband Ken; her parents; one sister Joyce Harlan; and two brothers, Gene and Carroll Underwood.
Friends may call from 12:00-2:00 PM at the Kaneville United Methodist Church, Kaneville, IL., on Saturday March 31, 2001.
A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will follow Visitation at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ric Magtanong, Pastor of the church. Interment will follow at Kaneville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in her name and mailed to PO Box 66, Elburn, IL. 60019.
