Survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary B. (nee) Kren Pershey. Loving father of Donna M. (Art) Parker of Indiana, Dr. Edward Jay (Monica) Pershey of Cleveland, OH. Dearest grandfather of Danielle Parker of Chandler, AZ, Consetta Parker of Cincinnati, OH, Jennifer (Kevin) Zamback of Cleveland, OH, Benjamin (Katherine) Pershey of Brunswick, OH, three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ann Marie and Austin, of Cleveland, OH.
Two sisters, Lillian (Leo) Putz of Cedar Lake, IN and Dolores (Ralph) Nestor of Joliet. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded by his parents, Matthias and Anna (nee) Bluth. One infant grandson, Andrew Parker; four brothers, Martin, Matthew, John and Robert Pershey; five sisters, Ann Fiday, Mary Bartholme, Caroline Berlinski, Elizabeth McCarthy and Theresa Schneider.
Edward was born in Joliet and a life long resident. Retired (1984) as a materials manager for Liberty Controls Electronics Manufacturing after 12 years of service. Also, Edward and Mary owned and operated food stores in Joliet and Rockdale for many years. Veteran WW II, United States Navy, Radio 3rd Class in technical communications serving in the Pacific Asiatic Theaters. Charter member of St. Joseph Post 1080, Knights of Columbus 4400, Veteran V.F. W. 6576 of Indiana, Holy Family Society and past secretary of St. Joseph Holy Name Society.
Contributions to St. Joseph School Fund would be appreciated.

Gladys I. Serena "Peg"
Age 94, of South Wilmington, IL, passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 at the Walnut Grove Nursing Home in Morris, IL. born May 9, 1908 in Wyoming to the late Walt and Maud (Clark) Benge. Gladys formerly owned and operated a boarding house and beauty shop in Iowa. She had been a member of the Women's Auxiliary in South Wilmington and the American Business Women's Association.
Surviving are nine step-children, Joseph "Vic" (Jeanette) Serena of Gardner, IL, Monty (Dorothy) Serena of South Wilmington, Arthur (Jane) Serena of Bonfield, IL, Anthony (Diane) Serena and Alvin Serena both of South Wilmington, Carmen (Janis) Serena of Kankakee, IL, Regina (Paul) Chase of Gardner; Kenneth (Janet) Serena of East Brooklyn, IL, and Michael (Jackie) Serena of Gardner, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph V. Serena, Sr., whom she married October 10, 1981; three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Roland Benge; and three sisters, Georgia Collins, Clara Hakey, and Frances Porter.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., South Wilmington Chapel, Thursday, July 25, from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be private. Interment will be in the Kendallville-Eddy Cemetery in Kendallville, IA. Memorials in her name to the Walnut Grove Nursing Home Activity Fund or to a local volunteer fire department would be appreciated.

Mr. Elbert Washington, Sr.
Age 88.
He was born November 25, 1913, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Washington in Aliceville, AL. Elbert attended public school in Aliceville, AL. As a young man, he moved from Aliceville, AL. to Birmingham where he became employed through U.S. Steel Corporation. He met Miss Johnnie Mae Thomas who resided in Birmingham. They were later married through holy matrimony. They were blessed by God with six children.
Elbert's employment was transferred from Birmingham to Joliet, IL. in 1966 where he retired from U.S. Steel Corporation in 1975. Elbert and his wife joined Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of pastor Reverend Isaac Singleton. He worshipped at Mount Zion Baptist Church as a faithful member. Elbert always put God first in his life.
He was ready at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002 at Silver Cross Hospital. "Our father which art in Heaven" intervened relieving Elbert of his pain and suffering through illnesses and called him home.
Our family will honor and hold dear his memory and love. He leaves to share his memories a wife who loves him as he loved her, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Washington, daughters, Carol "Jean" (Dr. Roland) Wesley of Bolingbrook, IL., Constelene "Connie" (Robert) Dunn of Birmingham, AL., sons, Charles (Yvonne) of Chicago, IL., Elbert Jr. (Helen) of Joliet, IL., Leonard of Joliet, IL. and Robert of Joliet, IL. Thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Kate Curry of East Chicago, IN., an aunt, Mrs. Mattie Fowler of Birmingham, AL., a special cousin, Mr. Theodore Washington of Bessemer, AL., a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, July 25, 2002, begin at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Reverend Isaac Singleton, Pastor and Reverend Rufus Stepens officiating.

Age 81, of Lemont, July 22, 2002. born in Berlin, Germany, residing in Lemont for the past 46 years.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and a son, Paul Weaver.
Survived by her children: Gary and Quin, both of Lemont, Dan of Lockport, Eric of Sioux City, IA, and Connie (Mike) Hesslau of Downers Grove; eight grandchildren; a twin sister, Ursula Springer of Berlin, Germany; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held.

Mattie R. "Sister" "Tutty" Williams
Age 91, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 at her home. Preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Williams; two sons, Harvey, Jr. and Ray Williams; two sisters, Ruby Tillman, Lula Gholston and one brother, Burkun Ray.
Mattie is survived by two daughters, Betty Williams of Joliet, IL, Francis Brown of St. Joseph, LA; four grandchildren that she raised, Linda Williams, Phyllis Thompson both of Joliet, IL, Alvin (Alicia) Williams of El Paso, TX, George (Donna) Williams of Chicago, IL; seventeen grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 25, 2002 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Service will follow at 11:00 AM, Pastor Edward Martin, St. Paul M.B. Church, officiating. Interment following service at Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL

Agnes Doss
Age 73, born in Jackson, TN on June 29, 1930 to the union of Leroy and Mary (nee Carpenter) Hoyle. She departed this life here on Earth on Monday, July 21, 2003. She attended Merry High School in Jackson, TN. She accepted Christ at an early age. She later moved to Joliet in December 1950 and joined Mt. Zion M.B. Church where she served in the Nurses' Ministry. She moved her membership to Mt. Olive M.B. Church where she served faithfully in the Ushers' Ministry until her health began to fail her and she was unable to attend regularly. She worked and retired from Western Electric in 1985.
Agnes was united in matrimony to Lawrence Doss who preceded her in death on March 13, 1999. Together they raised three children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Lillie Gregory, two grandsons, Freddie Decarlow and Kevin Clark; three sisters, Mary Magdalene Hoyle, Vernell Robertson, Gladys Anderson; two brothers, John Allen and Willie Curtis Hoyle.
Agnes leaves to cherish her memories; two loving children, daughter, Betty (Freddie) Clark and son Jerry (Judith) Curry, both of Joliet, IL; three sisters, Lillie B. Brown, Celeste Heath and Deloise (Wiley) Bruton, three brothers, Willie (Lillie) Hoyle, Joe Hoyle and Leroy Hoyle Jr., all of Joliet, eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and a very special friend, Julia Gwin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2003 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday, July 25, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive M.B. Church, 1710 Carey St., Joliet, IL. Homegoing Service at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Maurice Brown officiating. Interment following service at Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL.

Marie C. Freis
It is with sadness we share the death of our loved one.
Born on October 29, 1930, to Edward & Marie Merriman in Joliet, Illinois and died on July 16, 2003.
A graduate of St. Francis Academy, she married the love of her life, Robert Freis in 1951. Together they raised their seven children and spent 52 wonderful years as one. She was a devoted wife, mother grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She loved to travel, play cards and spend time with family and friends.
She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer eight years ago and won. However, she lost her battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She had many family members visiting her often those last days.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Robert C. Freis, children; Brad Freis of Carrollton, Brian Freis of Garland, Gary Freis of Sugarland, Debbie Schoerberl of Cedar Falls, IA, Mark Freis of Grapevine, Kim Huchinson of Austin and Scott Freis of Dallas, sisters Collette Riffel, Helen Brouch, Ann Mandel; brothers Paul Merriman, Dr. Robert Merriman and Ray Merriman, 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is most remembered as a generous and loving wife and mother.
Services were held at Calvary Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.

Age 81 of Diamond, passed away Monday evening July 21, 2003 at The Grundy County Home. born October 14, 1921 in Joliet to the late Moses and Anna (Stren) Brown. Also preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1995, one son Richard, two brothers Robert and Willard Brown and one sister Mildred Chamberlin.
Surviving two sons Raymond (Carol) Frey of Sumter, S.C. and Robert N. Frey of Diamond, one grandson, Allen Frey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Former employee of Messengers of Joliet and Liberty Control Co. of Joliet/Shorewood. Member of the L.O.L. Club of Joliet.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from the Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington with Rev. Frank Vitus officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet. Visitation Thursday, July 24, 2003 from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Christopher A. Leadingham, 16, of Cullom, IL died on Monday, July 21, 2003, at 8:10 p.m. in the emergency room of OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac, following a vehicular crash.
Michael A. Leadingham, 14, of Cullom, died at 7:09 p.m on Monday, July 21, 2003, in Charlotte Township of Livingston County, IL, following the same vehicular crash.
Chris was born on April 24, 1987 at Kankakee, IL, a son of Jackie L. Leadingham and Michael A. Melton. Michael was born October 11, 1988 in Pontiac, IL, the son of Jackie A. Leadingham and Michael A. Melton.
Survivors include: their mother and step-father, Jackie L. and Roy Melvin of Cullom; their father, Michael Melton of Dwight, IL; maternal grandparents, William and Patsy Leadingham, Manhattan, IL; maternal great-grandmother, Doris Leadingham of of Cabery, IL; paternal grandparents, Jan Harris of Dwight, IL and Charles (Dorothy) Melton of Channahon, IL; two brothers: Jeremy Ziegler of Ft. Bragg, NC and Chad Everett Melvin of Cornell, IL; three sisters: Amanda Leadingham of Cullom, Tinisha Melvin of Cornell, IL, and Heather Leadingham of Cullom, IL; and a half sister, Darien Earing.
The joint funeral service for the Leadingham brothers will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 511 W. Jackson St., Cullom. Interment will be in Wet Lawn Cemetery, Cullom.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Church Hall. Memorials may be made to the family.
Arrangements are by the HARRIS-BURKE-FUNERAL HOME, Cullom, IL.
