Henrietta M. Holmes
Henrietta M. Holmes, 87, a longtime resident of Woodstock, died Monday, May 7, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock.
She was born Aug. 16, 1914, in Johnstown, Neb., to William and Justine (Petersen) Schelm. She married James Holmes Feb. 8, 1941, in Woodstock.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Woodstock. She worked with her husband at the Holmes Motors Auto dealership in Woodstock. Along with her husband. She also was an active member of the Republican Party in McHenry County.
Survivors include two nephews, Jon Ritt and Dayton Ritt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Martin Schelm and Walter Schelm; and three sisters, Cordelia Moellar, Ethel Field and Pauline Ritt.
A memorial service was held May 10, at the First United Methodist Church of Woodstock, with the Rev. Lana Sutton officiating. Burial was private.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Christopher Neil Wolf
Christopher Neil Wolf, 19, Capron, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, from injuries from an automobile accident.
He was born July 14, 1982, in Skokie, to Donald E. and Deborah (Holland) Wolf.
He was a 2001 graduate of North Boone High School. He was a cook for Mr. V’s Restaurant, Harvard.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Steven, Capron; a sister, Carolyn, Woodstock; his maternal grandparents, Barbara and Melvin Holland, Tucson, Ariz.; and his paternal grandparents, James and Marie Wolf, Niles.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Leslie A. ‘Les’ Martin
Leslie A. “Les” Martin, 73, Hampshire, formerly of Elgin, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in his home.
He was born June 2, 1929, in Elgin, to Leslie and Nora (Harmening) Martin. He was a 1947 graduate of Elgin High School and was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was a longtime sales representative for the Nabisco Company. He had been a Hampshire resident for more than 25 years and a member of the American Legion Post 680 and AMVETS Post 91, both of Hampshire. He enjoyed camping, golf and spending winter in Arizona.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan (Michael) Schier, East Dundee, Jane (Tony) Ambroso, Crystal Lake, and Jodi (Bruce) Farris, Woodstock; his mother, Delavan, Wis.; six grandchildren, Megan and Scott Schier, Kyle and Becky Ambroso, and Walter and Abigail Farris; two sisters, Marilyn (William) Yurs, Elkhorn, Wis., and Ann Flint, Billings, Mont.; and a brother, Dean (Carol) Martin, Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Wesley, in infancy.
Visitation was held April 11, and the funeral service was held April 12, both at Fredrick Funeral Home, Hampshire. Burial, with military honors, was in the Hampshire Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion of Hampshire.
Mary E. O’Leary
Mary E. O’Leary, 89, Woodstock, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at the Golden Years Nursing Home, Walworth, Wis.
She was born March 28, 1914, in Northfield, to William and Katherine (Selzer) Levernier. She married Ronald J. O’Leary Dec. 28, 1938, in Marengo. He died Feb. 28, 1982.
She lived in Woodstock with her husband for many years. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. She and her husband retired to Arizona in the early 1970s, and she returned to Woodstock in 1983. She devoted her life to being a wife, mother and grandmother to her beloved family.
Survivors include her children, Patricia (John) Menge, Marengo, Nancy O’Leary, Lompoc, Calif., Robert (Nancy) O’Leary, Woodstock, and Michael (Rhonda) O’Leary, Marengo; 19 grandchildren, Robert O’Leary, Sean O’Leary, Patrick O’Leary, Kelly O’Leary, Danny O’Leary, Molly Norden, Amy Serafin, Michael O’Leary, Bridgid Ehrke, Conor O’Leary, Hannah O’Leary, Katie O’Leary, Tom O’Leary, Melissa Menge, Brian Menge, Megan McCloud, Heather Sherment, Keith Menge and Samantha Menge; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Barbara (William) Schirmang; two brothers, Harold (Barbara) Levernier and Bernard (Falde) Levernier; and a sister-in-law, Clara Levernier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. There will be a liturgical wake service at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Marengo.
Rose Irlacher
Rose Irlacher, 94, Marengo, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Sarinas in Lake Geneva, Wis.
She was born Oct. 18, 1908, in New Briton, Conn., to Josef and Rosa (Deutsch) Dax. She married Leonard Irlacher Sept. 27, 1930, in Chicago.
She was formerly of Chicago, moving to Marengo in 1997. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo and was active with the Sacred Heart Seniors, as well as the Marengo Seniors Club.
Survivors include her son, Leonard (Judith) Irlacher, Marengo; four grandchildren, Lisa Irlacher, Charleston, S.C., Paul (Michele) Irlacher, Cherry Valley, Michael Irlacher, Aruba, and Linda Irlacher, Marengo; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Irlacher, Cherry Valley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother; and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 24, at the Sacred Heart Church in Marengo. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park.

Dolores M. Strmiska
Dolores M. Strmiska, 62, a longtime resident of Wonder Lake and Woodstock, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Wauconda Care Center. She was born Sept. 16, 1939, in Chicago.
She was the owner of a Woodstock resale shop and worked at the Woodstock Kmart for many years.
Survivors include many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Sunday, Sept. 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock.

Gerald W. Hogan
Gerald W. Hogan, 78, a lifelong resident of Woodstock, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Kindred Care Rehabilitation Center, Greenfield, Wis.
He was born April 27, 1924, in Woodstock, to Harry and Ruth (Woodworth) Hogan. He was married to Verna (Johnson) Hogan for 53 years until her death Aug. 21, 2001.
He owned and operated Hogan’s Apparel on the Woodstock Square. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock. He was also a member of the VFW in Woodstock and a member of the Bull Valley Golf Club.
He enjoyed wood carving, and he was an avid gardener.
Survivors include a son, William (Lorie) Hogan, Harvard; and six grandchildren, Patrick, Phillip, Theresa, Bridget, Dustin and Melissa Hogan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Robert Hogan; and a brother, Maynard Hogan.
Visitation, followed by the funeral, was May 17 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Arthur Bergren, Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock, officiating.
Burial was in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock.
Thelma Arvidson
Thelma Arvidson, 94, Woodstock, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Woodstock.
She was born Sept. 9, 1907, to John and Sadie Jackson in Mount Pulaski.
She worked for A.B. Dick and Company and also for the Salvation Army for 55 years. In 1985, she received the Woman of the Year award from the Woodstock Professional and Business Women’s Club. She received the Woodstock Jaycees Volunteer of the Year award in 1985. She was very active in many other organizations including Welcome Wagon and McHenry County Headstart Council. She participated in the Kiwanis Peanut Drive, Christmas Clearing House, the Salvation Army Donut Day and the Little League concession stand.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois M. Haak, Woodstock, and Margret Haak, Chicago; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rueben Arvidson; four brothers; a sister; three grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation and the funeral service were held May 21 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Burial was at McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. Memorial donations may be made to the family or to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, IL 60010.
Dorothy DeWane
Dorothy DeWane, 75, Gainesville, Ga., formerly of Woodstock, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Gainesville.
She was born April 25, 1927, to Edwin and Agnes (Stickney) Powers. She married Leo M. DeWane Oct. 30, 1943, in Sharon, Wis.
Survivors include five daughters, Katie Galbraith, Gainesville, Patricia Glidden, Minnetonka, Minn., Eileen DeWane, Buford, Ga., Colleen Strobel, Atlanta, and Sheila Freeze, Buford; a son, Michael DeWane, Minnetonka; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nov. 19, 1973.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. A liturgical wake service is scheduled for 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.
