Ray Frank Parisek, 76, Huntley, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Dundee, to Henry and Agnes (Reidel) Parisek. He grew up in Keeneyville and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950. He served in the Korean War, receiving many medals, including two Purple Hearts and the commendation with Combat "V." After his service, he married Lois "Boots" Boncosky Oct. 2, 1953, in Huntley. He was an electrician and a member of IBEW Local No. 117. He was a member of the Huntley American Legion Post No. 673, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5040, the Disabled American Veterans and the First Congregational Church of Huntley. He volunteered continually with the Huntley Jaycees, the Huntley Little League, the American Legion and the Huntley Park District. The Park District honored Mr. Parisek and his wife with the establishment of Parisek Park in 2004. Survivors include his wife; three children, Mitch (Kate) Parisek, Woodstock, Janis (Dave) Tures, Marengo, and Steve (Mary) Parisek, Woodstock; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary and Jacob Ruemelin, Marengo, Abby, Rachel, Tyler and Samantha Parisek, Woodstock and Tracy Tures, Marengo; a great-granddaughter, Cadence; three sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Morton, Elgin, Jane (the late Peter) Harrouff, Genoa, and Joan (Jack) Pasholk, Minocqua, Wis.; two brothers, Robert (Ruth) Parisek, West Chicago, and Jerome (Ruth) Parisek, Elgin; two sisters-in-law, Marcia Parisek, Bloomingdale, and Betty Zirk, Huntley; a brother-in-law, Percy (the late Margaret) Swanson, Woodstock; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Henry Parisek; two sisters, Virginia Pasholk and Jean Eaton; five brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law. Visitation was July 28 at First Congregational Church, Huntley. The funeral was held July 29 at the church with the Rev. Walter Thyng officiating. Mary Sue Parker, 55, Woodstock, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, in Woodstock. She was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Woodstock, to Walter and Helen (Hayes) Parker. She was a graduate of St. Mary Grade School and Marian Central Catholic High School, Woodstock. She was a great athlete and excelled in any sport she played. She was an original member of the Woodstock Dolphins swim team. A star softball player, she played on several different teams in the Woodstock Women's Softball League, as well as other surrounding city organizations. She had been employed for many years with State Bank of Woodstock and later owned and operated Coach Light Pizza in Woodstock. Survivors include her brothers and sisters, Diane (Dan) Sheahan, Woodstock, Phil (Jan) Parker, Woodstock, Tom (Cindy) Parker, Chicago, Peter (Linda) Parker, Bristol, Wis., Julie (Bud) Gende, Ripon, Wis., and Kris (Jim) Liebetrau, Woodstock; her nieces and nephews, Kevin Sheahan, John Sheahan, Colleen Readel, Kurt Parker, Toby Parker, Shawn Parker, Toni Seagaren, Brendan Parker, Tom Parker, Cynthi Lysne, Ryan Parker, Brett Parker, Carrie Parker, Bart Gende, Denise Smith, T.J. Liebetrau, Andrew Liebetrau and Kate Liebetrau; her aunts and uncle, Jane Gibson, Jack (Betty) Hayes, Laura Holsinger; and her devoted doctor, Dr. Susan Loring. Margaret Doris Crago, 78, Woodstock, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at her home. She was born Jan. 1. 1928, in Port Huron, Mich., to Edward and Janie (Drown) Radatz. She married Duane Crago July 12, 1968, in Port Huron. Survivors include a son, Edward Crago, Woodstock; three grandsons, Duane Crago, David Crago and Steven (Cheryl) Crago; three great-grandsons, Daniel, Zachery and Brandon; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Betty. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Eilene, Florence and Janie; and three brothers, Fred, Lloyd and Art. Visitation was July 28 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was held July 29 at the funeral home. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood.

Patricia Lee Woodell, 62, Woodstock, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. She was born June 2, 1944, in Delavan, Wis., to Robert and Leota (Zimmerman) Scott. She was an employee for 36 years at Precision Twist Drill in Crystal Lake. She enjoyed traveling to Arkansas, visiting friends, playing computer games, especially Pogo, but most especially spending time with her grandchildren and other family members. Survivors include six children, Debbie Woodell, Woodstock, Tracey Woodell, Pell Lake, Wis., Laurie (Martin) Christison, Woodstock, Kathy Truesdel, Madison, Wis., Larry (Christina) Woodell, Algonquin, and Robert Woodell, Woodstock; her grandchildren, Justin Truesdel, Ashley Bauer, Amber Bauer, Renea Woodell, Dakota Woodell, Cassandra Christison, Elizabeth Woodell and Robert Woodell; a sister, Carol Nelson; two stepbrothers, Rod (Betty) Nelson and Monty Nelson; and a nephew, Rick Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Nelson; and a stepbrother, Larry Nelson. The visitation was held July 28 at Colonial Funeral Home, McHenry. Burial was private. Justin D. Wright
Justin D. Wright, 19, Stafford, Va., died suddenly Saturday, July 22, 2006. He was born May 21, 1987, in Fairfax, Va., to Thomas and Ruth Wright. He attended Garfield High School in Woodbridge, Va., and then moved to Stafford, where he graduated from Brooke Point High School. He was a loving son and friend. His 19 years of life were blessed, and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include his parents, Stafford; his grandmothers, Marilyn Nell and Norma Whiting; his grandfather, Thomas Whiting; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Robert Nell; two uncles, George Nell and Roger Whiting; and an aunt, Rhonda Whiting. A gathering of friends and relatives was held July 28 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock, with Marie Shafer officiating. Greta E. Swanson, 88, Woodstock and formerly of Arizona, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Hearthstone Manor Nursing Home, Woodstock. She was born April 2, 1918, in New York, to Hjalmar and Anna (Seaberg) Borg. She married Wilbur Swanson. She lived in Arizona for 20 years before moving to Illinois. She was an artist. Survivors include two sons, Donald (Marilyn) Swanson and Leonard (Theresa) Swanson; two grandchildren, John Swanson and Carole (Robert) Colella; three great-grandchildren, Camren Swanson, Courtney Colella and Gillian Swanson; and a brother, Edward (Ruth) Borg. Edward L. McNett, 86, Woodstock, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Woodstock, to Leslie and Theresa (Collins) McNett. He married Arline Klabunde Nov. 12, 1946, in Woodstock. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Infantry Division, D Company, 162nd Battalion, 41st Division from 1941 to 1945. He saw action in the South Pacific, New Guinea and Australia. He received the Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation Award. He was a lifetime member of Woodstock VFW Post 5040, where he had been junior vice commander. He was a past president of the Midwest Chapter of the 41st Infantry Division, which meets in Berwyn. He also was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. He had attended St. Mary School and high school, graduating in1937; he was a co-captain of the undefeated 1936 football team. He retired from the ComEd plant in Waukegan. Survivors include his wife, Woodstock; a son, Michael (Judy) McNett, Winnetka; a grandson, Drew, Winnetka; a sister, Irene (the late Robert) Tuttle, Woodstock; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Gerald McNett. The visitation was July 24 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral Mass was celebrated July 25 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock, with Monsignor James McLoughlin officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock. Donald F. Schweikert, 69, Woodstock, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 16, 1936, in Rochester, N.Y., to Clarence and Agnes (Corbo) Schweikert. He married Margo Ruxton Jan. 3, 1970, in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1961. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, sports and his pets. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife; four children, Keith Schweikert, Ripon, Wis., Dale (Lynn) Schweikert, Owasso, Okla., Sandi (Butch) Harris, Dallas, Ga., and Wendy (Fred) Castillo, Woodstock; eight grandchildren, Staci, Goldie, Derek, Ashley, Paige, Jenna, Cheyenne and Jacob Daniel; a brother, Steve (Bonnie) Schweikert; a nephew, Andrew Steve (J.J.) Schweikert; a niece, Julie (Bret) Guidry; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Ruxton and Susan Ruxton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey; and a brother, Robert (Linda) Schweikert. Glenn E. "Andy" Anderson, 74, Woodstock, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Hearthstone Manor, Woodstock. He was born May 17, 1922, in Hampshire, to Harry and Anna (Voss) Anderson. He had lived in Woodstock since moving there in 1937. He married Norma Charlotte Doolittle May 7, 1954, in Wonder Lake, The Rev. Burton Schroeder officiated, cousin of the bride. They had lived in Woodstock since their marriage. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. An accountant, he was employed at Montgomery Ward & Co., from 1943 to 1945, as regional auditor. He was also employed at Elgin National Watch Co. and later at Ladas Parry & Co., patent and trademark attorneys, as office manager, retiring in 1980. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion, life member of the Loyal Order of Moose and life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, Woodstock. He enjoyed gardening and for many years had a large vegetable garden and took pleasure in sharing his produce with family, friends and neighbors. His interest in trains and railroads led to many trips with his wife throughout the United States and Canada, as well as to Australia and New Zealand. He was a devoted husband, son and brother, and he valued his family ties and contacts with relatives of several generations. He kept in touch with many former co-workers and especially with members of his high school class of 1940, having organized their first reunion. Survivors include his wife; two sisters-in-law, Marion Anderson and Norine (Charles) Mathey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine (Harry) Bires; and a brother, Clifford Anderson. The visitation was July 21 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. She was a resident of Woodstock and formerly lived in Elmhurst. Survivors include a son, Harry Baker III, Algonquin; a daughter, Holly Remick, Woodstock; two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Remick; and a sister, Dolores Seidel, Tucson. James "Jim" Stewart, 88, Woodstock, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Eloise Mayer in Kansas City. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in May. He and his family had been Woodstock residents since 1955. He retired from Butcher Boy Refrigerator Door Co., Harvard, in 1978 and enjoyed a long and satisfying retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading, bicycling and visiting his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan for more than 50 years. Survivors include his wife; six children, Jane (Mike) Kostal, Hart, Mich., James Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo., Greg (Jean), Elgin, Mark (Bonnie), Colorado Springs, Marty, Woodstock, Joel, Cambodia, and John, Rockford; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William (Beth), Overland Park, Kan. Isaac "Ike" Bitton, 80, Woodstock, died Friday, July 14, 2006. He was born March 31, 1926, in Lisbon, Portugal, to David and Simita Bitton. He emigrated to Palestine from Portugal in 1942, where he served with the Jewish Settlement Police. Between 1944 and 1946, he served with the British Army, Jewish Brigade Group, Corps of Military Police throughout Europe. From 1946 through the independence of Israel in 1948, he was a member of the famed "Haganah," or Israeli underground. He then served with the Israeli Army with the rank of sergeant major until 1951. Through 1959, he served in the Israeli Army Reserves while operating a small tourist taxi service. In 1959, he emigrated with his family to Oshkosh, Wis., and then moved to Madison, Wis., in 1961. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1964, and in 1973, he moved to Woodstock to open a Plywood Minnesota franchise, later known as The Floor to Ceiling Store. He was an active member of the community and served on many local boards and commissions. He also served as chairman of the U.S. Small Business Association's regional task force and was awarded the Americanism Medal of Honor from the Daughters of the American Revolution. He spoke nine languages and possessed a vast knowledge of the world's history and many religions. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. His hobbies included woodworking and religious studies. Survivors include a daughter, Tamara (Ernst) Loosli, Zurich, Switzerland; two sons, Daniel (Linda) Bitton, Johnsburg, and Michael Bitton, Woodstock; seven grandchildren, Nadia, David, Tina, Joseph, Robi, Rachel and Tami; four great-grandchildren, Nadia, Brendan, Lino and Allison; two brothers, Jose and Jacob; four sisters, Tamo, Hanita, Rachel and Lea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins around the world. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Miriam; his parents; two brothers; and a sister. The visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. A luncheon reception will follow at Pirro's Restaurante, 228 Main St., Woodstock. Burial will be private in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Faro Cemetery Restoration Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded by him for the restoration of a historic cemetery in Faro, Portugal. Roma I. McGrath, 87, Wonder Lake, died Monday, June 26, at her daughter's home. She was born May 24, 1919, in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., to Arthur and Gladys (Nelson) Anderson. She retired with a disability as cashier for Ford Pharmacy in 1977. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she also sang in the choir. She was a member of the McHenry and the Wonder Lake senior citizens clubs. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle and Dixieland music and was always ready to dance. Survivors include two children, Charles Bouland, Ingleside, and June (Roger) Kurchina, Woodstock; a son-in-law, Ron Elliott, Lake Bluff; five grandchildren, Tom Bouland, Easton, Mass., Ron (Murphy) Elliott, Mountain, Wis., Jeff Elliott, Lake Bluff, Dana (Jerry) Tilling, Wonder Lake, and J.C. Kurchina, Woodstock; four great-grandchildren, Easton and Riley Tilling and Veronica and Charlie Elliott. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Bouland, in 2001; a daughter, Dianne Elliott, in 2004; a son, Kevin McGrath, in 2001; her parents; a brother, Glen; and two sisters, Lorraine and Carol. June Gloria Halvorson, 80, Rockford, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. She was born May 4, 1926, in Minneapolis, to Harry and Anna (Hallen) Swanson. She married Wallace Everett Halvorson June 26, 1948, in Minneapolis. She was a graduate of Minnehaha Academy in Minnesota, Class of 1944. She attended University of Minnesota for nursing. She was employed as administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Regional Office of Education. She was a member of the Park Avenue Covenant Church Education Council and a youth leader while living in Minneapolis. While living in Freeport, she was a member of Embury Methodist Church and worked with the senior high youth. She was a member of the PEO-E.T. Chapter, Sons of Norway and Y-Senior Women. She is a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA and Naomi Circle. She proudly co-owned a U.S. patent. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Shelley (Terry) Tucker, Woodstock; a son, Dr. Scott (Sue) Halvorson, Highland; two grandchildren, Jon and Jennifer Halvorson; a sister, Evelyn Stever, California, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lloyd Swanson; a sister, ShirLee Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Fraser. Thomas A. Berthold, 48, Woodstock, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Sept. 15, 1957, to Alfred and Patricia (Thill) Berthold. He married Lori Montano June 22, 1985, in Woodstock. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Berthold Nurseries Company, Woodstock. He was a registered certified landscape architect and had been a past president of the Ornamental Growers Association. In addition to running the nursery, he was an avid fisherman and had previously owned Big Buck's Bass Shop. He was also a past member of the Woodstock Noon Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Woodstock; a son, Alfie Berthold, and a daughter, Niki Berthold, both of Woodstock; his mother, Marco Island, Fla.; a brother, Gary (Sara) Berthold, Elk Grove Village; a sister, Debra (David) Chesney, Elk Grove Village; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary Montano; two sisters-in-law, Beth (Dan) Sanocki and Janet (Russell) Boggs; nieces and nephews, Blake Berthold, Anastasia Berthold, Adam Chesney, Amy (Steve) Visvadra, Danielle (George) Cerese, Kourtney Chesney, Dawn Boggs, Christy Boggs, Stephanie Sanocki and Courtney Sanocki; and a great-nephew, Travis Visvadra. Laurence L. Grubba, 51, Woodstock, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born Oct. 31, 1954, in Chicago, to Chester and Dorothy (Mika) Grubba. He worked as the manager of the produce department at Sam's Club in Crystal Lake for many years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing hockey. Charles H. Havens, 81, of Woodstock, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born July 17, 1924, in Belvidere, to George and Loretta (Russell) Havens. He married Carolyn Ohlsen May 11, 1946, in Chicago. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He had been with the Dean Foods milk plant in Huntley until his retirement after 30 years. He was a member of the Woodstock American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Woodstock; two daughters, Cathy (Bob) Westman and Rhonda (John) Munch; four grandchildren, Brent (Abby) Westman, Bryan Westman, Elizabeth Munch and Courtney Munch; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Will, Brady and Charlie; and six brothers and sisters, Agnes, Mary, Helen, Francis, Gerry and Leon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, George, Bobby, Bill, Joe and an infant. The funeral was held July 1 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Roger Olson officiating. Interment was in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock.

Gustav J. Spitzbart, 87, Woodstock, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at his home. He was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Burlington, Wis., to Gustav and Meta (Polatz) Spitzbart. He had farmed in the Greenwood area for 25 years. After retiring from the farm, he spent his time fishing and gardening. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Woodstock. Survivors include his wife, Edna (Pankonin) Spitzbart; a son, David (Debbie) Spitzbart, Woodstock; a daughter, Barbara (Craig) Zivic, Woodstock; five grandchildren, Brad and Ellen Spitzbart and Chris, Brian and Rudy Zivic; a great-grandchild, Taylor Meisinger; a brother, Lloyd (Grace) Spitzbart, Solon Mills; and a sister, Louise Schmarje, Hebron. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Norma Spitzbart; a grandson, Jeremy Spitzbart; and a brother, Edwin Spitzbart. Visitation was June 29 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was held June 30 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Woodstock. Interment was in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock. Memorials can be made to either Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or to St. John's Lutheran Church.
Margaret R. Borre
Margaret R. Borre, 84, Hebron, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. She was born April 13, 1922, in Niles, to Joseph and Rose (Gabriel) Karlesky. She married Bernard Borre April 27, 1950, in Chicago. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Richmond, and a member of the Women of the Moose in Woodstock. She loved to square dance, enjoyed painting, spent many hours doing handiwork and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Smith, Hebron, Paulette Nelson, McHenry, and Pearon (Bill) Deegan, Hebron; five grandchildren, Brooke, Bethany, Joshua, Amber and Jarred; and four great-grandchildren, Dillon, Austin, Hunter and Braxtin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan. 14, 1994; two sisters, Pauline Gallu and Gertrude O'Neil; and three brothers, Michael, Joseph and Robert Karlesky. Visitation was June 27 at Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home, Richmond. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated June 28 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Richmond. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
