Joan M. "Ma" O'Neill, 80, Woodstock, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at her home. She was born March 6, 1926, in Woodstock, to Charles and Bessie (Watt) Camp. She married William "Willie" O'Neill Sept. 25, 1948, in Woodstock. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Woodstock. She retired from the McHenry County Clerk's Office after serving 20 years as a clerk. She was a lifelong resident of Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock High School. She enjoyed reading and especially traveling throughout the Midwest with her husband. During her illness, she was treated by a wonderful oncologist, Dr. Rajini Manjunath. Survivors include her children, Peggie (Patrick) Schmid, Oregon, Wis., Bonnie (John Scharres) O'Neill, Woodstock, and Richard O'Neill; a granddaughter, Elyssa (Shawn) Johnson, Loves Park; a sister, Betty Lippold, Spokane, Wash.; and two nephews, Jim Lippold and Bob Lippold. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, May 26, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 15, at the First Presbyterian Church, Woodstock, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be private at a later date. Memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 225 W. Calhoun St., Woodstock, IL 60098. Robert J. Nihan Sr., 74, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Marengo, to Ralph and Eva (Wolfe) Nihan. He married Louise McElroy Sept. 25, 1955, in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a truck driver for many years. Survivors include his wife; five children, Robert (Amy) Nihan Jr., Tricia (Dan) Briggs, Daniel Nihan, Eva (Mark) Johnson and Mike (Lisa) Nihan; nine grandchildren, Jennifer and Cody Murray, Wesley Briggs, Nichole, Adam, Sierra and Wes Johnson, and Carly and Jacob Nihan; a brother, John Nihan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and JoAnne McElroy; and numerous nieces and nephews. James B.R. "Little Joe" Sheppard, 36, Woodstock, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born Dec. 18, 1969, in Chicago, to James and Colleen (Blair) Sheppard. He married Keri O'Howell April 2005 in Woodstock. He was a 1988 graduate of Woodstock High School. He worked as a welder for Nu Way Industries, Des Plaines. Survivors include his wife, Woodstock; his parents, Woodstock; a son, Brandon; a daughter, Chelsea; a brother, Thomas Sheppard; a sister, Jeanette (Rodney) Nelson; two nephews, Bradley and Chad; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The visitation and service were held April 6 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Woodstock.

Caroline Faith Michling
Caroline Faith Michling, 85, Woodstock, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Woodstock. She lived and died in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock, for nearly 50 years. She was born May 31, 1920, in Easton, Pa., to George and Mary (Promoli) Kirchgassner. She graduated from Easton High School in 1938. During World War II, she joined the Volunteer Land Corps, and later she joined the newly organized Women's Army Corps, serving stateside as a hospital aide. While stationed at Rockford's Camp Grant, she met her husband, Charles Michling Sr., and they were married March 2, 1946, in Chicago. She and her family moved from Chicago to Midlothian, then to Crystal Lake and finally to Woodstock. She was a stay-at-home mom until all her children were in school. She then returned to work as a nurse's aide at Woodstock Memorial Hospital, a cook for St. Mary and Marian Central Catholic High School and finally at Serv-All Tool and Die in Crystal Lake, retiring in 1989. She was an honorary member of AMVETS Auxiliary, Centegra Hospital Auxiliary and Public Action to Deliver Shelter. She was a Brownie Scout troop leader, Cub Scout den mother and Salvation Army "doughnut lady." She supported many charitable organizations, and her favorite pastimes were reading, sewing, cooking and baking and gardening. She loved music and animals, and she especially enjoyed swimming. Survivors include four children, Charles "Chuck" Michling Jr., Woodstock, Caroline (Robert) Kerschke, Marengo, Peter (Cheryl) Michling, Woodstock, and Alan (Cheri) Dartanyan, Duluth, Minn.; six grandchildren, Rob (Susan) Kerschke, the Rev. Katrina (the Rev. James) Gallagher, Jason (Mary) Kerschke, Neil and Hayley Michling and Anna Dartanyan; five great-grandchidren Ryne, Heide, Nathaniel, Arnelia and Brendan; a brother, Daniel (Lucille) Pierson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1983; her parents; three brothers; five sisters; and an infant grandson. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock, IL 60098; the Woodstock Food Pantry; or the Centegra Foundation. Margaret E. Burmeister, 92, an 85-year resident of Woodstock, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at West Allis Memorial Hospital, West Allis, Wis. She was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Woodstock, to Joseph and Eva (Sando) Kline. She married Glenn Burmeister June 19, 1937, in Woodstock. She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church, Woodstock, and was very active there. She spent her last years living with her son. Survivors include a son, Eugene (Sally) Burmeister, Franklin, Wis.; a daughter, Peggy Burmeister, Deerfield; three grandsons, Lance (Kelly), Lane (Sandy) and David (Peggy) Burmeister; and two great-grandchildren, Dane and Kyle Burmeister. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and one brother. Visitation was April 6 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral was held April 7 at the funeral home. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock.

Lynne D. Benson, 58, Woodstock, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. She was born March 10, 1948, in Chicago, to Willard and Theresa (Olsen) Schultz. She married Leonard Benson April 25, 1969, in Wonder Lake. She had been employed with Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry, as a respiratory therapist. She loved all animals and enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Woodstock; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Linda) Benson, Woodstock, and Rodney (Grace) Benson, Stephenson, Mich.; two nieces; a nephew; many cousins; and two close friends, Bernice Wills and Pam Schultz. She was preceded in death by her parents. The visitation and funeral were April 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Harvard, with the Rev. Robert Kinnear officiating. Interment was April 7 in Greenwood Cemetery, Woodstock. Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.

Harold J. Young, 81, a resident of Wonder Lake since 1955, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at his home. He was born June 13, 1925, in Chicago, to Jacob and Marie Young. He married Lorraine Raab Sept. 30, 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific for four years on an Attack Transportation ship at Guadacanal, New Guinea, where he was wounded. He worked for Ball Co. as chief financial officer and senior vice president. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Royal Order of Moose, Disabled American Veterans, American Racing Pigeon Club, McHenry Country Club for 32 years and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and racing homing pigeons. Survivors include his wife; two children, Joyce (Jerry) Brown and Jay (Joni) Young; five grandchildren, Steven, Eric, Jillian, Brian and Katherine; two sisters, Mardell Cooney and Dolores Young; and a brother, Roy. He was preceded in death by his parents; an older brother, Jack; and a granddaughter, Jill. A memorial service was held April 7 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, McHenry. Helen Thompson Kay, 93, Woodstock and formerly of Neenah, Wis., died Thursday, March 30, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Henning, Minn., to Anton and Ragnhild Thompson. She married Robert Kay July 20, 1940, in Henning. She graduated from the University of Minnesota where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and earned a degree in elementary education. For many years, she was an active and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and participated in the women's organization. She also gave freely of her time to the American Association of University Women, the Service Circle of King's Daughters and Lawyer's Wives. Survivors include two daughters, Marthea (Phillip) Spencer, McHenry, and Vinje Grant, Madison, Wis.; and three grandchildren, Tenaya Grant, Stoughton, Wis., Cara Grant, Seattle, and Tahan Grant, San Francisco. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters. A memorial service was held April 4 at the Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum, Neenah. Entombment followed. John 'Jack' Lynch
John "Jack" Lynch, 89, Ottawa and formerly of Woodstock, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Community Hospital, Ottawa. He was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Rochester, N.Y., to Enos and Mary (Casey) Lynch. He married Eleanor Fleming Aug. 23, 1941, in Rochester. She died Sept. 20, 1964. He then married Mary Patricia Kelly July 2, 1977, in Springfield. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, serving in Assam, India. He retired from Xerox in 1972. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gregory (Deborah) Lynch, Lexington, Minn.; a daughter, Ronalee (Edwin) Johnson, Gardiner, Mont.; three stepsons, Edward (Judith) Kelly, Ottawa, Daniel (Melissa) Kelly, Champaign, and Roger Kelly, Springfield; two step-daughters, Judith (Kenneth) Gordon, Moscow, Idaho, and Marilyn (Donald) McNally, Rockton; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Lynch. The requiem Mass was celebrated March 28 at St. Mary Oratory, Rockford, with the Rev. Brian Bovce officiating. Mava D. Gersch, 82, died March 20, 2006, in Woodstock. She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Granada, Minn., to Fred and Madge (Sperry) Drewes. She graduated from Maine High School, Des Plaines, and married Robert Gersch March 21, 1944, whom she met while they both worked at McDonnell Douglas, Chicago. She was an adoring and loyal wife; doting mother; skilled chef; and expert seamstress, who enjoyed knitting, did needlepoint and crocheted beautiful works of art. She enjoyed traveling, especially a semiannual trip to Las Vegas. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed solving difficult crossword puzzles. Later in her life, she became a bingo enthusiast. She loved animals, especially dogs, and during her life, she was mother to many dogs, cats, horses and ponies, chickens, domestic ducks, abandoned baby raccoons, opossums, mallard ducklings, guinea pigs, parakeets, mice, turtles and fish. She was a warm, loving person, who was unfailingly kind. Survivors include four children, Madalyn (Douglas Sr.) Albrecht, Wonder Lake, Marla Zornow, Little Rock, Ark., Robert Jr. (LuAnn), Rolling Meadows, and Melanie (Edward) Wong, Lake Zurich; five grandchildren, Douglas Jr. (Tracy) Albrecht, Megan Zornow, Christopher and Kurt Gersch and Edward Wong; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Chase Albrecht; three brothers, Dick (Marge) Drewes, Bud (Donna) Drewes and Sam Drewes; a brother-in-law, Russell Gersch; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and a constant companion, her German Shepherd dog, Augusta "Augie" Albrecht. Linda L. Beu, 55, Woodstock, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at her home. She was born Oct. 4, 1950, in Elgin, to William and Vera (Rudsinski) Beu. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Woodstock, for 47 years, and she served as the Sunday school secretary and as a member of the board of finance for a number of years. She worked for Century Title/ Inter Country Title for 27 years and had been employed at B&R Erectors for six years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, tractor pulls, Department 56 collectibles and her family. She was an "honorary aunt" to many and a dear friend to all. Survivors include a brother, Wayne (Shelia) Beu, Woodstock; two nieces, Stacy (Tom) Peck and Regan Beu; a nephew, Jason (Leslie) Beu; two great-nephews, Ryan and Connor Peck of the Denver area; the love of her life, Roger Sass, Woodstock, and his three children, Roger Sass Jr., Marengo, Renee Sass, Woodstock, and Michelle (Peter), Davies, Cortland; her stepmother, Geneva Beu, Lisle; a stepsister, Barbara Ocwieja, Lisle; two stepbrothers, Patrick (Laura) Weter, Belvidere, and William (Andrea) Weter, Crystal Lake; two paternal cousins, Roger (Linda) Beu, Woodstock, and Kenneth (Beverly) Olson, Jacksonville, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Leonard W. Schultz, 94, Woodstock and formerly of Glenview, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Hearthstone Manor, Woodstock. He was born June 11, 1911, in Garland, Neb. He married Eleanora Louisa Werhane in 1938, and they were married for 50 years. He farmed from 1940 to 1972 in Northfield Township. He owned and operated Schultz's Fruit & Vegetable Stand, Glenview. He was past president of Cook County Farm Bureau, director of the Illinois Agricultural Association and instrumental in developing Faith Lutheran High School for McHenry County. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenview, and St. John in the Woods Church, Northbrook. He spearheaded the efforts to bring Farm in the City to Chicago. He was an honorary member of the Faith Lutheran High School for McHenry County Board. Survivors include three children, Sandra (Robert) Paul, Leonard (Barbara) Schultz and Deborah (Rick) Nowak; nine grandchildren, Rochelle (Laura) Paul, Cary (Mary) Paul, Patricia (Bartlett) Johnson, William (Kimberly, fiancée) Schultz, Christine (Jonathan) Cies, James (Melissa, fiancée) Schultz, Jason, Rebecca (Jeff, fiancé) and Allison Nowak; six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Ella Johnson, Abigail and Anna Paul, and Alexandra and Thor Cies; four siblings, Omar (the late Dorothy) Schultz, Gertrude (the late Vernon) Ruhter, Esther (the late John) Van Soelen, Berdine (William) Priegnitz; a sister-in-law, Ella Schultz; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Marguerite "Monnie" L. Fues, 97, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Harvard Care Center, Harvard. She was born Oct. 20, 1908, in Woodstock, to Otto and Elsie (Knutter) Hansman. She married Ernest Fues Jr. Sept. 27, 1930, in Woodstock. She lived in Crystal Lake for 65 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake and was active in many church activities throughout the years. Survivors include two sons, Barry (Judy) Fues, Crystal Lake, and David Fues, Euless, Texas; two daughters, Nancy (Woody) Hart, Ames, Iowa, and Jennifer (Randy) Anderson, Crystal Lake; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Mike, Sean-Ryan, Barry and Jason Fues, Amy Odom, Cynthia Swiatkowski, Natalie McGinley, Stephanie Fues, Greg Fues and Rachel and Rebecca Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Reed, Woodstock. She was preceded in death by her husband and five brothers and sisters. The memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. Dennis J. Santoni, 69, Woodstock, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1936, to Evenzio "Denny" and Margaret (Castelli) Santoni. Friends and loved ones witnessing his 14-year battle with renal cell cancer were amazed at his courage and his ability to keep his sense of humor. He truly was an inspiration to everyone. His family always came first. He retired as a managing partner of Coopers & Lybrand and enjoyed his garden and becoming a gourmet chef. He was the founder of the Create Awareness for Responsible Environmental Planning Group. Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Holsinger) Santoni; two sons, Dennis and Victor; a granddaughter, Madeline Irene; a daughter-in-law, Herjerica (Hernandez); three brothers, Robert, San Diego, Thomas and Jerry; three nephews, Jerry Jr., Vincent and Tom; and a niece, Megan, San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 31, followed by the funeral Mass, at The Church of Holy Apostles, McHenry. Henry C. Setzler, 87, Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Burr Oak Manor in Genoa City, Wis. He was born May 23, 1918, in Chicago, to Henry and Louise (Gutmacher) Setzler. He married Jane Edmonds Aug. 10, 1941, in the Grinnell College Campus Chapel, Grinnell, Iowa. born in Chicago, he grew up in Park Ridge, attended Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Maine Township High School. He went to Grinnell College and then to Northern Illinois University, where he received his master of science degree in August 1973. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving from 1941 to 1945. He and his wife moved to Wonder Lake in 1947. He spent much of his free time over the years remodeling and adding to his summer home, turning it into a year-round home. Early in his career, he worked as an electrician. He later became an instructor for the electrical apprenticeship program at Gateway Technical College, Racine, Wis. He was a founding member of Nativity Lutheran Church and was very active in the Indian Ridge subdivision. For more than 55 years, he was a member of IBEW and IBEW Local Union 117. From 1958 to 1995, he served as a school board member for Harrison School Board District 36, and, in 1983, he was honored with an Award of Merit from the Illinois Association of School Boards for 25 years of serving his community. Survivors include his wife; three children, Donna Hamann, Seattle, Joyce (Jason) Brent, San Diego, and Dean (Sandi) Setzler, McHenry; three grandchildren, Chris (Cari) Setzler, Tracy (Nathan) Sylvia and Shaun Setzler; and three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Morgan and Ryleigh Sylvia. Betty Jane Wallis, 80, Woodstock, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Biltmore Rehabilitation and Care Center in Belvidere. She was born May 16, 1925, to Burton and Helen Collen. She married Frederick Wallis Jan. 10, 1976, in Woodstock. She was employed at McHenry County Department of Public Health for 24 years. She was a member of Woodstock Free Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; three children, Peggy McDonald, Wolburn, Mass., Lewis McDonald III, Woodstock, and Sally (Pat) Hoesel, Belvidere; a grandson, Joshua Hoesel, Belvidere; and her former husband, Lewis McDonald Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Vera (Robert) Erb. Visitation was March 15 at Woodstock Free Methodist Church, Woodstock. The funeral was held March 16 at the church. Interment was private. Memorials can be made to Biltmore Rehabilitation Care Center in Belvidere or the Woodstock Free Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Windridge Funeral Home, Cary.

12/14/2005 Marion M. Noonan Frozley
Marion M. Noonan Frozley, 88, Phoenix and formerly of Woodstock, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005. She was a member of the Mother's Club and St. Mary Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Nelson, Phoenix; a son, Donald (Retha) Frozley, Grand Rapids, Mich.; two grandchildren, Steve Frozley, Grand Rapids, and Greg Frozley, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Max Frozley; two nephews, Bill Noonan, Calumet City, and Dick Noonan, Sharon, Wis.; and a niece, Kathy Emmers, Harvard. Inurnment was held Dec. 1 at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.

12/14/2005 Kenneth Lynn Limbaugh
Kenneth Lynn Limbaugh, 60, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry. He was born July 22, 1945, in Woodstock, to Robert and Frances (Trisler/Chumley) Limbaugh. He was the owner and operator of A1 Limo Service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Sons of the Confederacy. He was an excellent horseshoe player, and, enjoying the sport for more than 30 years, he played for many leagues in Cary, Woodstock and Palatine. He was an avid Bears fan. Survivors include two sons, James (Ali) Limbaugh, Woodstock, and Scot (Donna) Limbaugh, Scott AFB, Bellville; five grandchildren, Kelly, Christie, Jesse, Cody and Sam; two brothers, R. Wayne (Nancy) Limbaugh, Woodstock, and Eugene (Lois) Limbaugh, Woodstock; five nephews and nieces, Don, Kristin, Elaine, Lynell and Brad; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was Dec. 2 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The funeral service was held Dec. 3 at the funeral home. Interment was in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.

12/14/2005 Mary E. Scharnweber
Mary E. Scharnweber, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Alden Terrace Nursing Home, McHenry. She was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Center, Mo., to Thomas and Mollie (Shahan) Hill. She married William Scharnweber May 23, 1940, in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodstock. She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a operator. She retired after 25 years of service in 1977. She was involved in the Pioneer Club at Illinois Bell. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Woodstock. She served as an election judge. She enjoyed her cats and cooking. Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Diedrich, Zion; a granddaughter, Lisa (Roger) Victory, Woodstock; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Carl William; a brother, J.T. Hill; and two sisters, Elma Winkelhake and Anna Mac. A memorial service was held Dec. 3 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodstock, with the Rev. Tom Rogers officiating. Memorials can be made to Helping Paws or Pets in Need. Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.
