Shirley M. Rogers, 75, Woodstock, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee. She was born March 1, 1930, in Chicago, to Henry and Benedetta (Corsiglia) Minute. She married Ronald Rogers March 27, 1967, in Chicago. She was a guidance counselor for McHenry West High School. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Home of the Sparrow, the Retired Teachers Association and Montini High School Testing Program. Survivors include her husband, Woodstock; a daughter, Beth Bentley, Woodstock; a son, R. Brett Rogers, Woodstock; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua and C.J. Bentley; a sister, Lois Pausch, St. Joseph; and a brother, Angelo Minute, Lakewood. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service was held Dec. 3 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Interment was private. Memorials can be directed to the family to create a scholarship fund.

Pearl M. Ward, 94, Marengo, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Golden Years Nursing Home, Walworth, Wis. She was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Woodstock, to William and Edna (Stewart) Thomson. She married Milton Ward Aug. 25, 1936, in Woodstock. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Woodstock. She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, first as an operator then as a supervisor. She retired in 1966. After retirement, she worked at Rosewood Apparel in Woodstock. Survivors include a son, Lee (Mary Sue) Ward, Marengo; a daughter, Mary Jane Navota, Richmond, Ind.; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Adam) Klein, Jacob Ward, Gretchen Gerard, Heidi (Greg) Masias, Erika Dooley and Hans Navota; and 10 great-grandchildren, Gregory, Joshua, Moriah, Isaac, Aurora, Mykenzie, Lance, Landon, Sarah and Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a twin sister, Merle, in infancy; and a great-great-grandson, Julian King. Visitation and the funeral service were held Nov. 28 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Burial was in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. William H. Barkwill, 71, Woodstock, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born Oct. 17, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, to Kester and Margaret (Sperry) Barkwill. He married Dorothy Butler April 25, 1959, in Woodstock. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Woodstock. He worked as a train conductor for Union Pacific (Chicago Northwestern) Railroad Co. for 44 years. He was inducted to the Spring Arbor College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999, as a member of the 1952 high school basketball team. Survivors include his wife, Woodstock; three daughters, Debbie (Fred) Kiel, Harvard, Diane (Michael) Church, Mecosta, Mich., and Laura Barkwill, Lake Geneva, Wis.; two brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Barkwill, Woodland, Calif., and Kenneth (Cathy) Barkwill, Machesney Park; eight grandchildren, Natalie, Rachel and Michelle Kiel, Nathan, Marian and Robert Barkwill, and Allison and Dorothy Lynn Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was March 10 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Steven E. Price, 54, Woodstock, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at his home. He was born April 11, 1951, in East Orange, N.J., to Edward and Virginia (Gounaud) Price. He married Linda Nawn July 28, 1973, in Stanhope, N.J. A member of the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, he volunteered at his church and Administer Justice. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandson. Survivors include his wife, Woodstock; two sons, Bryan (Shawna) Price, Capron, and David Price, Long Beach, Calif.; and a grandson, Brayden Price. Visitation, followed by the funeral service were held March 14 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, Crystal Lake. Interment was private for the family. Jo Ann Fuller, 55, Woodstock, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at her home. She was born June 1, 1950, in Geneva, to Harry and Betty (Marshman) Strupel. Survivors include her mother, Presque Isle, Wis.; two sons, Christopher and Jeremiah, both of Presque Isle; her family by heart, Frank (Beth) Coronado, Woodstock, and Angela Moran, Woodstock; two grandchildren, Justin Fuller and Kristy Golec; and five godchildren, Justina, Angelina, Frankie, Julius and Juliun. Joseph B. Thiede, 87, Woodstock, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 29, 1918, in Woodstock, to Otto and Annie (Welch) Thiede. He married Marge Ublir Oct. 2, 1965. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Woodstock in 1938. He was a veteran the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in 1941 and finishing in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He served as the club manager of Woodstock VFW Post 5040 for more than 20 years. He was a life and charter member of the VFW, which started up in 1946. He served as VFW commander in 1954, as well as quartermaster for more than 15 years. He was the 1995 grand marshal of the Dick Tracy Days Parade. He was a member of the first Little League Board in 1954 and served both as manager and coach in the Little League and the Teener League. He loved his family, his dog, gardening, the VFW, golfing and any and all sports, especially the Chicago White Sox. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Thiede; two children, Randy (Jeanne) Thiede, Woodstock, and Jan (Ken) Winkelman, Harvard; two stepdaughters, Carolyn (John) Justice, Elburn, and Judy Creighton, Woodstock; 10 grandchildren, Dave (Jane) and Scott Creighton, Renee Navlyt, Mark and Brook Winkelman, Julie (Nancy Marshall), Michael and Katie Justice, Jill (Larry) Sanders, and Susan (Julian) Rojas, five great-grandchildren, Brian, Parker, Spencer, Alex and Connor; a sister, Madeline Frame; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Ettner; and a brother, John Thurow. Visitation was, March 13 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Stacey J. Curtis, 22, Woodstock and formerly of Barrington, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in Woodstock. He was born Dec. 12, 1983, in Chicago, to James and Loretta (McKnight) Curtis. He loved his family and friends and was known as a peacemaker. Survivors include his parents, Woodstock; four siblings, Lemanuel (Angie Conner) Curtis, Woodstock, James D. (Heather Simons) Curtis Jr., Woodstock, Iesha McKnight, Woodstock, and Benny Milton, Chicago; his fiancée Tytiana Fleming, Woodstock; his maternal grandparents, David and Clorine McKnight, Chicago; and his nieces, Natasha McKnight and Monica Conner. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willie and Alberta Curtis. Visitation was March 6 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Barrington. Maxine "Pep" Davis, 88, died Monday, March 13, 2006. She was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Wall Lake, Iowa, to Harry Bacon and Mary Ellen "Nellie" (Frisby) Bacon. She married Merle Davis May 24, 1941. Irish and proud of it, she embraced life to the fullest. A lightning rod, her smile, sense of humor and zest for life were shared by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl (Bill) Arnett; three grandchildren, Chris (Ann) Arnett, Jennifer (Jim) Umbarger and Michael Eisele; six great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Joseph Eisele; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, March 13, 1978; a daughter Maxine "Nell" Eisele; her parents; and her siblings, most recently Harold James Bacon Sr., Anita Irene Courier and Rita Mae Ulrich. Joseph Richard Feffer Sr., 54, Woodstock, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Clement Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee. He was born Dec. 9, 1951, in Elgin to Joseph and Beverly (Reinert) Feffer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, where he served as a medic. He enjoyed fishing. He was a caring father and grandfather who put others before himself. Survivors include four children, Joseph (Kristie) Feffer, Heather (Brad) Bender, Eric (AnnaMarie) Feffer and Kristal (Brian) Wulf; four grandchildren, Hannah Rose Feffer, Madison Lynn Bender, Masno Scott Riek and Madison Ann Riek; his parents, Kopperl, Texas; four sisters, Karen (Clyde) Seamon, Kopperl, Therese (Terry) McDowell, Glen Rose, Texas, Debbie (Jim) Spegele, Roanoke, Va., and Patti (Nolan) Congine, Crystal Lake; two brothers, John Feffer, Kopperl, and Bill (Donna) Feffer, Mexico; his close nephew, Ben Feffer; his former wife, Jane Finger; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Richard D. Raffel, 77, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital, Winona, Minn., of heart failure. He was born May 19, 1928, in Woodstock, to Ferd and Martha (Miller) Raffel. He married Jane Grantham April 14, 1951. She preceded him in death. He then married Ruth Beck June 29, 1977. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital, Winona, and a member of the First Baptist Church, Winona. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Dr. Bruce (Pam) Raffel, Crossville, Tenn., and Richard (Peggy) Raffel, Los Altos, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Paula Corley, Weaverville, N.C., and Betty Thompson, Winona; two brothers, Ferd (Carol) Raffel, Woodstock, and Ted (Donna) Raffel, Peoria, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucy Poelling, June 27, 1994; and his first wife. Funeral services were held March 2 at Oliver Chapel, Winona, with the Rev. Paul H. Hagstrom, 50, Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Woodstock Residence, Woodstock. He was born July 23, 1955, in Norfolk, Va., to Joseph A. and Edith L. (Simpson) Hagstrom. He married Dawn Ross June 27, 1981. Formerly of Elmhurst, he also lived in Northlake before moving to McHenry in 1995 and Wonder Lake in 1999. He worked as a foreman for Alexander Lumber, then as a truck driver for J.A. Frate and as a foreman for Leach Enterprises. He loved to socialize and will be remembered for being very helpful to others. He was an avid fisherman and loved boating and working on cars. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed animals. Survivors include his wife, Wonder Lake; five children, Christina Ross, Wonder Lake, Mercedes Hagstrom, Wonder Lake, Louis Hoerauf, Wonder Lake, Daniel (fiancée Amanda) Hoerauf, McHenry, and Christopher Hoerauf, Wonder Lake; four grandchildren, Duncan, Caitlyn, MacKenzie and James; his mother, Northlake; and three brothers, Joseph (Kathy) Hagstrom, Rockford, Robert (Tina) Hagstrom, Belvidere, and Michael (Tracy) Hagstrom, Northlake. He was preceded in death by his father, Feb. 3, 2006; and a sister, Deborah, in infancy. Visitation was March 12 at George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, McHenry. Leroy R. Fontana Sr., 78, Wonder Lake, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Chicago, to August and Hilda Fontana. He married Mary Perricone Aug. 20, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a truck driver for Qwik Motor Service in Chicago for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Leroy R. Fontana Jr., Wonder Lake, the Rev. Glenn J. Fontana, Moline, and Mark A. Fontana, Wonder Lake; three stepsons, Joseph (Marlene) Polito, Wheaton, Frank (Donna) Polito, Chicago, and David (Michelle) Polito, Hobart, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Caroline Fanilla, Homewood, Madeline DeSario, West Chicago, and Vicky (Joe) Peluso, Niles; and his first wife, Helen Parlea Fontana. Neil D. Paschke, 22, Wonder Lake, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. He was born March 18, 1983, in Woodstock, to Walter L. and Roxanne M. (Otto) Paschke. A lifelong resident of Wonder Lake, he attended Woodstock High School. He was employed by Precision Quincy Corp. in Woodstock as a construction laborer. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Ozzy Osbourne; snowboarding; skateboarding; fishing with his parents; and taking long walks with his dog, Duchess. Survivors include his parents, Wonder Lake; a brother, Brian (Debbie) Paschke, Wonder Lake; a sister, Debra (Perry) Chievetta, Allenton, Wis.; five nieces and nephews, Nick, Tim, Ashley, Alex and Samantha; and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Rose Otto, Crystal Falls, Mich. He was a member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; a daughter, Marie Morris; three stepsons, Dean and Raymond Cebulski and Jimmy Wiseman; and three grandchildren. Richard R. Werrbach, 53, Woodstock, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry. He was born Dec. 8, 1951, in Harvard, to Arthur W. and Alice B. (Carson) Werrbach. He married Kathryn Fletcher Aug. 19, 1978, in Woodstock. He worked for many years with the city of Woodstock at the water treatment plant. He volunteered at Hearthstone Manor. He enjoyed classic cars. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sara and Emily Werrbach, Woodstock; two brothers, Gerald (Pauline) Willoughby, Calif., and Robert (Corey) Werrbach, Illinois; two sisters, Elzora Stoxen, Illinois, and Margie (James) Kolde, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother Dec. 11, 1980; and his father Jan. 21, 2001. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by the memorial Mass at 11 a.m., Friday, July 22, at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Woodstock. Patricia Resko, 60, Bull Valley, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Kindred Hospital, Greenfield, Wis. She was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Chicago to Ernest P. and Ann (Kloska) Donelson. Formerly of Chicago, she moved to Wonder Lake in 1976 and lived in the community for 22 years. For the past seven years, she was a resident of Bull Valley. She was an enthusiastic promoter for the Lake Geneva Raceway Motocross since 1991. The last 15 years of her life were dedicated to motocross racing and bringing motocrossing to the forefront. She was an avid and active member of the American Motorcyclist Association and District 16 Motocross. Survivors include three children, Allison Resko, Rock Creek, Ohio, Erin (Jamie) Aune, Franksville, Wis., Daniel (Carrie) Resko, Randall, Wis.; two grandchildren, Macyn and Taylor; a brother, David (Mary Jane) Donelson, Crystal Lake; and three nephews, Christopher and Eric Donelson, Crystal Lake, and Airman 1st Class Beau Donelson of Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix. Luanna M. Koch, 65, Woodstock, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Centegra Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock. She was born May 6, 1940, in Plainview, Minn., to James and Eleanor (Fieck) Miller. She was very involved with Alcoholics Anonymous and a very close friend of Bill W. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock. She loved to go to garage sales, and she loved to read. In the last few years, she embraced life and helped others do the same. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was very proud of her grandchildren's activities and accomplishments. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Dan (Jan) Terlikowski, Sharon, Wis., and Jack (Dianna) Terlikowski, McHenry; a daughter, Diane (Jim) Herendeen, Woodstock; four brothers, Ron Miller, David (Robin) Miller, Willis (Barb) Miller and Jim (Nita) Miller; three sisters, Yvonne (Dean) Wilson, Marlene (Howie) Weller and Diane (Mike) Johnson; eight grandchildren, Lincoln, Toby, Harry, Courtney, Sarah, Michael, Mellisa and Sara; and two great-grandchildren, Garrison and Nicolle. She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, "Uncle" Dan Terlikowski; a sister, Jean; a brother-in-law, Robby; and a brother, Dale. Martha M. Cairns, 55, Woodstock, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at her home. She was born Oct. 10, 1950, in Des Plaines, to Irwin and Margaret (Specht) Nicholls. She married Harold Cairns Nov. 3, 1979, in Richmond. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Woodstock. She served as a Sunday school teacher, as past church president and on the altar guild. She worked for Harris in Woodstock and McHenry, and most recently, she worked at Johnsburg State Bank as a personal banker. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Woodstock; a son, Brian Cairns, Milwaukee; a daughter, Teresa Simpson, Woodstock; a stepson, Mike (Melissa) Cairns, Lake in the Hills; three brothers, William (Anita) Nicholls, Roger (Diane) Nicholls and George (Judith Santana) Nicholls; four sisters, Patricia (Gregory) Holden, Debbie Ackerman, Pauline (Steven) Zehner and Diana (Terry) Eifert; two grandchildren, Brady and Delaney Cairns; and an uncle, Leo (Wally) Specht. She married Frank Davis May 17, 1941, in Chicago. She and her husband moved to Woodstock in 1959. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing her own designs. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Woodstock; a son, Frank (Christa) Davis, Aiken, S.C.; a daughter, Margaret (Richard) Babbitt, Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren, Lynn (Gary) Sullivan, Frank (Michele) Davis, Paul (Virginia) Power, Michael Power and Kathleen Power; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Visitation was Nov. 11. Kenneth V. McCreary, 75, Prairie Grove, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at his home. He was born May 14, 1930, in Newark, Ohio, to Lorenzo and Pearl (Frush) McCreary. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1952 and went on to a career in broadcasting at WTVN in Columbus, Ohio. During that time, he met Barbara Rowe, and the couple married March 2, 1962, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. In 1965, he became executive secretary for the Des Plaines-based national headquarters of the wildlife conservation organization Ducks Unlimited Inc. He and his family made a home in Schaumburg. When the company relocated to Long Grove more than a decade later, the family moved to Prairie Grove. There he was active in civic affairs, with contributions that included eight years as village president. He continued to serve Ducks Unlimited, coordinating corporate meetings and conventions across North America. He retired in 1992 but remained a national volunteer officer. At that year's convention, he was honored as secretary emeritus for his 27 years of distinguished service. Following retirement, he continued to arrange corporate meetings through his home-based firm, McCreary Consulting. He also dedicated several years to the McHenry County Conservation District, serving as board trustee and as a co-founder and trustee of the MCCD Foundation. He was an active member of the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, holding the position of church elder and, more recently, deacon. He was highly involved in the regional Presbytery's activities, including Camp Stronghold. Ever the outdoorsman, he spent much of his spare time tending his garden, observing wildlife and appreciating nature. But most of all, he was a kind and loving husband, father and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife; a son, David McCreary, Phoenix; a daughter, Tina (John) Nystrom, McHenry; a granddaughter, Sharon Nystrom, McHenry; a brother, James (Charlene) McCreary, Newark; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his uncle and aunt, William and Thelma Bratton, Newark. Visitation was Nov. 6 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, Crystal Lake. A memorial service was held Nov. 7 at Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church, Ridgefield, with the Rev. Richard Floyd officiating.
