Helen D. Hunt, 88, of Rockford, formerly of Paxton, Elliott and Rankin, died at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday (March 1, 2000) at Wesley Willows Health Center in Rockford.
She was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Pontiac, the daughter of Martin and Mabel Ryerson Apland.
She married Grandin Hunt Aug. 26, 1937, in Paxton.
He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1988.
Survivors include: four sons, Wallace (Charlene) Hunt and Gary (Virginia) Hunt, both of Rockford, Rodney (Pat) Hunt of Marietta, Ga., and David Hunt of Yorkville; a foster daughter, Margaret (Bill) Rotramel of Champaign; one brother, Eugene (Ruth) Apland of Gibson City; six grandchildren, Bryan, Kristin, Gregory, David and Tanya Hunt, and Amy Haldeman; four great-grandchildren, Brittney, Zackery, Ellyn and Evan Hunt. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ronald Apland, and one sister, Martha Meyer.
She taught all eight grades in a one room school in rural Rankin.
She graduated from Pontiac High School and attended Illinois State University Normal.
She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rockford, was a former longtime member of the Rankin United Methodist Church, a former member of Rankin Eastern Star, and the Saturday Night Bridge Club.
She loved sewing and brought joy to countless children with her beautifully hand-crafted teddy bears.

HERBERT L. CAMPBELL

ALVIN - Herbert L. Campbell, 71, of Alvin, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday (March 1, 2000) at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
He was born April 25, 1928, in Danville, the son of the late James Clarence and Devorah Belle Jones Campbell.
He married Mary Alice Keele July 5, 1953, in Danville.
She survives.
Also surviving: two sons, James Campbell and Doug Campbell, both of Danville; two daughters, Donna Inman and Lisa Trusler, both of Danville; one brother, Robert (Winifred) Campbell of Oakwood; three sisters, Leona (William) Givens of Danville, Norma (Raymond) Thompson of Oakwood and Ruth (Robert) Harrison of Bismarck; three grandchildren, Ryan Campbell, Greg Inman and Abbie Trusler, all of Danville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Walter Campbell, and one sister, Harriet Givens.
He was an inspector at Hyster Company where he worked for over 30 years and retired in 1978.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War.
He enjoyed his family and friends, the outdoors and in his early days he liked to hunt and fish.

FRANCES V. BLAKEY

HOOPESTON - Frances V. Blakey, 84, of Hoopeston, died at 4:18 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 29, 2000) at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Tilton.
She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Hoopeston, the daughter of Edward and Effie Riggs Beam.
She married Clay C. Blakey in Hoopeston.
He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1970.
Survivors include: four daughters, Peggy Justice and Donna Burton, both of Hoopeston, Linda McMurray of St. Charles, and Patsy (Sonny) Walters of Sonora, Ky.; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Irv) Wilson of Watseka; a brother, Harry (Shirley) Beam of Watseka; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and two brothers.
Mrs. Blakey was a homemaker and a life resident of Hoopeston.
She was a member of the Westside Church of the Nazarene, VFW Auxiliary and the Albert Woolson Relief Corps #363 of Hoopeston.
She enjoyed embroidery and gardening.

Leo E. Hill
Leo E. Hill, 77, of Danville, passed away at 1 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at Danville Care South Nursing Home.
Leo was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Danville, the son of the late Harry and Bessie (Willis) Hill.
Leo married Frances Trego on Feb. 24, 1945, in Danville.
She survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, Terry (Marla) Hill of Danville and Marty (Christy) Hill of Indianapolis; one daughter, Pam Hill of Savoy; a twin sister, Maxine (Charlie) Middlemas of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Courtney and Jeremy of Madison, Wis., and Erin and Jonathan of Indianapolis.
Leo was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Leo worked as a tool and die maker by trade.
He retired from Danville Metal Stamping Company in 1986, where his Clock Number was 1, as their first employee.
Leo had many CB Radio friends where he went by the name of "Ringo".
Leo was always willing to help his friends and he fixed many of their radios.

RUTH R. MURPHY

GEORGETOWN - Ruth R. Murphy, 85, of Georgetown, passed away at 5:42 a.m. Wednesday (March 1, 2000) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was born May 13, 1914, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., the daughter of Thomas Edgar and Tiny Davenport Caldwell.
She had married Marshel W. "Woody" Murphy on Aug. 23, 1930, in Alabama.
He preceded her Feb. 13, 1998.
Survivors include: two sons, Marshel (Dorothy) Murphy, Jr. of Brocton, and Thomas (Marjorie) Murphy of Danville; three sisters, Lorraine Harbarger of Paris, and Betty Ruble and Wilma Tibbs, both of Georgetown; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Ruth was a homemaker and enjoyed ceramics and reading.

JAMES 'JIM' WILLIAM PEELER

James "Jim" William Peeler, 59, of Danville, passed away at 2:20 p.m. CST Tuesday (Feb. 29, 2000) at La Porte Hospital in La Porte, Ind.
He was born Jan. 25, 1941, the son of the late Cloy W. and Vada Fish Peeler.
He married Carolyn Ann Fritz Feb. 14, 1981, in Illinois.
She preceded him in death June 13, 1991.
Survivors also include: one son, Al, (Kathy) Peeler of Oakwood; four brothers, Jerry (Brenda) Peeler, Bobby (Alice) Peeler, all of Arthur, Ill., Roger Peeler of Decatur and Joe (Melanie) Peeler of Lansing, Mich; one sister, Brenda (Ron) Snoke of LaPlace, Ill.; two grandchildren, Steven and Samantha Peeler of Oakwood.
Jim drove tractor-trailers all of his life.
He had worked for J.B. Hunt, S&S; Trucking and most recently, for Ravens Trucking in Milford.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country in the early 60s.
Jim loved his family's horses and enjoyed driving them.
Jim also was a big NASCAR fan, especially of Jeff Gordon.
He loved to drive his truck and had been all over the U.S.
Jim's family was most important to him and especially his two grandchildren.

Ernest M. Dickson
OAKWOOD — Ernest M. Dickson, 80, formerly of Oakwood, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at 11:36 p.m. at Provena USMC Logan Campus in Danville.
Ernest was born on April 26, 1920 to John and Naomi Coomer Dickson in Glasgow, Ky.
Ernest is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Don) Swaney of Covington, Ind., Cathy Snyder of Tilton, and Cheryl (Lorin) Kinney of Fithian; one son, Charles Dickson of Oakwood; a brother, David Dickson of Bourbonnais; a sister, Marie Dickson of Paris; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Always active, Ernest was in the U.S. Army during World War II, Oakwood mayor from 1966 to 1978, a member of the Oakwood School Board, Oakwood Fire & Rescue Department and the Oakwood United Methodist Church.
Ernest enjoyed mushrooming, reading and talking with friends at the Oakwood Truck Stop and the Blue Room.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10 at Johnson-Lakeside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jennifer Bradford Seder officiating.
Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm, with visitation from 5-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
The American Legion Post 210 will conduct military rites.

Laverne Schultz, 75, of Danville, died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001) at Provena USMC, Logan campus.

Laverne was born in Danville Sept. 6, 1926, to Robert and Margaret Emma Scharlau Alexander.
She attended Trinity Lutheran G.S. and graduated from DHS in 1944.
She had formerly worked at LakeView Hospital, Danville Polyclinic, Tee-Pak, Esco, and Wyman Gordon.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret Alexander of Danville; and three cousins, Edwin Scharlau, Jr. of Urbana, Thomas Scharlau of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Karen Scharlau (Bart) Costello of Danville.
She was preceded in death her father, and a brother, Harvey Alexander, in 1930.
Alma Joyce Willett
Alma Joyce Willett, 58, of Danville, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 15, 2001) in Oakwood.
Joy went to be with her Lord and her beloved parents.
Joy was born June 27, 1943, the daughter of George W. and Dolly I. Bales Willett.
Joy is survived by three sisters, Betty Eggett of Oneida, Ky., Georgia (Lawrence) Hawker of Oakwood, and Jeanne (Roger) Liggett of Oakwood; two brothers, Richard (Janis) Elwell of Danville and Gene (Ruth) Elwell in California; nieces and nephews, Judith (Steven) King of Oneida, Ky., Ben, Debbie, Bethany and Broklynn Graham in California, Jerry, Pam and Amy Hawker of Danville, Garry, Kristi, Trent and Lauren Hawker of Potomac, Kathy and Bridget Cox of Oakwood, Ken, Julie, Valerie, Aaron Dunbar of Oakwood, Harold, Stacy, Kelly and Jillian Dunbar of Lombard, Ill., Dr. Dan, Julie, Marc and Bryan Dunbar of Belleville, Ill., Joe, Kim, Shelby, Dustin, Christian and Austin Dunbar of Danville; and Gene and Leevi Hawker in California.

Joy loved to crochet and listen to her music.
She loved being around her family, especially her great-nieces and nephews.
