John Pataki
WESTVILLE — John Pataki, 79, of Westville, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 15, 2001) at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Logan campus.
He was born April 23, 1922 in Westville, the son of Andrew and Maria Kolbai Pataki.
He married Betty Joan Potter August 15, 1948, at the Central Christian Church in Danville.
She survives.
Also surviving: daughters, Cindy Pataki of Westville, and Ellen Peck of Georgetown, and two grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Peck of Georgetown, whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Elmer, Julius, David and Louis; and a sister, Elizabeth.
John retired from General Motors, where he worked for 30 years as an electrician.
He graduated from Georgetown High School and attended Kansas State University.
He was in the U.S. Army 386th Infantry and the 97th Infantry Division in the Rhineland Campaign, where he was awarded the Bronze Service Star during WWII.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #51 in Westville, AARP, National Rifle Association, and United Auto Workers Local #579 Retirees.
He enjoyed photography, all University of Illinois sports, the St. Louis Cardinals, feeding wildlife and coin and stamp collecting, but most of all John enjoyed his family and life.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Lakeside-Urbas Funeral Home;
Burial: Georgetown Cemetery;
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military rites by the Westville American Legion Post #51.

Dorothy Gattling Summers
Dorothy L. Gattling Summers, 79, of Danville, passed this life at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Provena USMC Logan campus.
She was born Oct. 11, 1921, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Emett and Carlene Hudson Gattling.
She was formerly married to Walter Summers, Jr. in Danville.
He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Roland Gattling of Chicago, Clinton (Shirley) Youngman of Huntsville, Ala., and Emanuel (Kyong) Nelson of Killeen, Texas; four daughters, Carlene (Walter) Willis of Urbana, Thomasina (Maurice) Withers of Georgetown, Dorothy Gouard and Candy Tyler, both of Danville; a brother, Leonard Gattling of Danville; a sister, Alma Gattling Narcisse of Chicago; a foster daughter, Beo T. Nelson; two foster sisters, Lela Bishop and Maddie Williams; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and host of relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and two grandchildren.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doing word-search puzzles and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Dorothy was employed at the VA Medical Center for 28 years until her retirement.
She was a faithful and active member at Second Baptist Church where she served on the hospitality board.
She was vice president of the Black Unity Organization, a member of the Black Awareness Organization and the past Sextette Club.
Funeral services: 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Second Baptist Church;
Officiating: Pastor Reginald Buckley;
Family will be present at the church from 12 noon until the time of the services;
Visitation will also be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Leek & Sons Funeral Home (the family will not be present then);
Burial: Georgetown Cemetery.

Duane Jackson Hanna
Duane Jackson Hanna, 75, of 95 Oakleaf Court in Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at a local hospital.
He has been a resident of the area for 17 years, coming here from Catlin, Ill.
Mr. Hanna was a train dispatcher for C&EI; Railroad for 35 years and worked for the Material & Fuel Company in Danville, Ill., after he retired from the railroad.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hanna is survived by his wife, Daisy L. Hanna (Sproat) of Panama City Beach; a son, Randall L. Hanna of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Nancy Byker and her husband Scott of Sleepy Hollow, Ill.; a brother, Xon Hanna and his wife Kay of St. Elmo, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jeff, Ted and Cori Hanna; and three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Britany and Rachel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Pearl Hanna, and a son, James Duane Hanna.
Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 20 at Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church;
Officiating: Dr. Ken Churchill;

Deborah (Cohoon) Ashe
GEORGETOWN — Deborah (Cohoon) Ashe, 47, of Georgetown, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Monday (April 16, 2001) at Provena USMC, Logan campus.
She was born June 17, 1953, in Harvey, Ill., the daughter of John Ted and Lorraine LeClaire Cohoon.
She had married David Ashe on Nov. 26, 1997, in Markham, Ill.
He survives.
Also surviving: three sons, Charlie Escoe of Schererville, Ind., Jeremy (Margaret) Escoe of Lake Station, Ind., and Ronnie Escoe of Lake Station, Ind.; one daughter, La Shaun (Salvador) Guel of Calumet Park, Ill.; three brothers, David (Brenda) Cohoon of Chrisman, Jerry Cohoon of Georgetown, and Keith (Linda) Cohoon of Georgetown; two sisters, Diana (James) Riley of Harvey, Ill., and Darla (Craig) Miller of Princeville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and a special niece and nephew, Mary Reisback of Tinley Park, Ill., and Daniel Johnson of Urbana.
She was preceded by her parents and one infant sister.
Deborah had been a registered nurse.
She enjoyed writing poetry which she received many awards.
She enjoyed making jewelry and crafts and also needle point.
She enjoyed reading the Bible, but most of all spending time with her family.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19 at Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown;
Officiating: Rev. Leon Korb;
Burial: Georgetown Cemetery;
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the funeral home;

Joseph Shapuras
LARGO, Fla. — Joseph Shapuras, 77, of Largo, Fla., passed away Friday (April 13, 2001) at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.
He was born May 16, 1923, in Westville, the son of John and Mary Valenciute Shapuras.
He married Eleanor Clark, Aug. 13, 1949.
He is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Eleanor; three sons, Joseph (Diane) and Stephen "Mick" (Lynn) of Westville, and Kenneth (Jodel) of Plant City, Fla.; one daughter, Lisa (Dave) Griffith of Seminole, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren, Jason, Brian, Cory, Mason, Casey, Miranda, Kristina, Kendra, Sarah, Nathan, Ryan, Kayla and Kyle.
Joseph retired to Florida, in 1975, after 28 years as an electrician with General Motors.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was a 50-year member of Westville American Legion Post #51, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4252 in Inverness, Fla., and the 43rd Bomb Group.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seminole, Fla.
Services and entombment were held at the Moss-Feaster Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Serenity Gardens in Largo, Fla.

Troy W. Bloyd
HOOPESTON — Troy W. Bloyd, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Hoopeston, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 3, 2002) at Mariner Health Care in Port Charlotte.
He was born April 20, 1919, in Hoopeston, the son of William Thomas and Daisy B. Judd Bloyd.
He married Vera M. Hawthorne April 20, 1942, in Hoopeston.
She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2002.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sherri (Martin) Counterman of Port Charlotte and Debbi (Jon) Whiteley of North Port, Fla.; one grandson, Aaron Counterman of Port Charlotte; three brothers, Glenn (Margaret) Bloyd of Hoopeston, Thomas (Grace) Bloyd of Forest, Va., and David (Tammy) Bloyd of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister, Ermine (Stan) Boughton of Sanford, N.C.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Bloyd graduated from John Greer High School in Hoopeston.
He was a retired grocer, having been in business in Hoopeston, for many years.
He had resided in Florida, for the past 18 years.
He was a member of the Hoopeston Lions Club and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.
He did volunteer construction work for Camp Assurance at Georgetown.
He enjoyed woodcraft and fishing.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home in Hoopeston;
Officiating: Rev. Charles E. Sturgill;
Burial: Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston;
Visitation: noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home;

Mary 'Ruth' Kunkle
RIDGE FARM — Mary "Ruth" Kunkle, 84, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Monday (Feb. 4, 2002) at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.
She was born June 21, 1917, in Indianola, the daughter of Marion L. and Bessie M. Swank Poling.
She married Virgil C. Kunkle on Aug. 15, 1934, at Danville.
He preceded her March 3, 1991.
Survivors include: one son, Russell L. (Brenda) Kunkle of Oolitic, Ind.; two daughters, Virginia (Claude) Pratt of Danville and Mary Lou (Dale) Collom of Ridge Farm; a sister, Lillie Mae Kunkle of Perrysville, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Boggess of Chrisman, several nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents, one sister, Ruby Freeman, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Ruth was a seamstress and had worked at the Swaim Jacket Factory in Georgetown, and the Windbreaker Factory in Danville.
Ruth was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Georgetown.
She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and loved to entertain by playing the piano and singing.
Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Bethel Baptist Church in Georgetown;
Officiating: Pastor Ray Silver, Pastor Charles Allen and Dennis Jones;
Burial: Woodland Cemetery in Chrisman;
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown;

Mary E. Longanecker
Mary E. Longanecker, 72, of Jacksonville, and formerly of Springfield, and Rockford, died Saturday evening (Feb. 2, 2002) at the Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville.
She was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Danville, the daughter of Harold and Anna Kuchefski Lawrence Holmquist.
She married Roy E. "Bud" Longanecker, July 15, 1950, in Rockford.
He preceded her in death Oct. 23, 1997.
Survivors include: one son, Scott Longanecker (Denise) of Springfield; one daughter, Beth (Bill) Conklin of South Jacksonville; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Lawrence.
Graveside funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at the Diamond Grove Cemetry in Jacksonville;
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville, and 9:45-10:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home;
Memorials: Centenary United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship.

Mildred E. Wright
ST. JOSEPH — Mildred E. Wright, 84, of St. Joseph, passed away at 5:46 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) at her home.

Dorothy Fern Cooksey Cox
Dorothy Fern Cooksey Cox, 73, of Danville, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 3, 2002) at Provena USMC, Logan campus.
She was born in Newman, Douglas County, Ill., Nov. 15, 1928, the daughter of Alva Dow and Virgie Jewel Pate Cooksey, descendant of the first settlers of Owen, and Lawrence Counties in Indiana.
She married Charles Wayne Cox, Sept. 13, 1946, who survives of Danville.
Also surviving are: her daughter, Cathy (John) Oliver of Danville, and her son, William Jay (Randy) Cox of Nacogdoches, Texas, and two grandchildren; Kelly Oliver Davis of Bloomington, Ill., and Johnny Dow Oliver of Danville; two brothers, Dow Cooksey and Arthur (Penny) Musk, both of Danville, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, three sisters; Clara Long, Darlene Cade, and Margaret Crothers, and twin brothers Hubert Paul and Hugh Pate Cooksey.
She owned and operated her own hair styling salon, Dorothy's, for more than 50 years.
Dorothy was a member of the Second Church of Christ and a member of the DAR, Society of Indiana Pioneers, and Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims.
She was proud of her family and her noble ancestry, being descended from the kings and queens of early England.
Dorothy devoted her life to her entire family and was a selfless, loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
She was an avid traveler and reader.
Dorothy was always optimistic and had a love of life that inspired all those around her.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center;
Officiating: Drew Mentzer;
Burial: Locust Grove Cemetery in rural Indiana;
Visitation: 3:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the funeral home;
Memorials may be made to the Second Church of Christ Building Fund in her memory.

Leo E. Ellis
Leo E. Ellis, passed peacefully March 30, 2002, at age 86.
Born in Arkansas, raised in Rossville, Ill., earned a B.S. in Business at Roosevelt University and a teaching credential at St. Mary's University.
Leo completed 25 years service in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1968.
He next taught high school for 10 years and served as business department chairman.
A resident of Carmichael, Calif., since 1983.
Leo was a member of the Carmichael Presbyterian Church and Enterprise Mariner's Group.
A member of Toastmasters International since 1984, Leo earned the honored title of Distinguished Toastmaster.
He received the Herb Yarbrough Sustained Service Award and Toastmasters International Presidential Citation for outstanding work assisting novice Toastmasters, set and achieve their goals.
He was a very kind and generous person who went out of his way to help others.
Leo is survived by his wife, Dorothy, son Jimmie Lee, grandchildren: Travis, Aaron, Heather and Lindsay, and great-granddaughters: Ruby, Olivia and Riana Leigh.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. April 27 at Carmichael Presbyterian Church, 5645 Marconi Avenue, Carmichael, Calif. 95608.
Family requests in lieu of flowers, remembrances be sent to the church.
