Norman Dale ‘Fuzz' Hughes
PERRYSVILLE, Ind. — Norman Dale "Fuzz" Hughes, 50, of Perrysville, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2004) at his home near Gessie.
He was born May 20, 1954, in Danville, Ill., to Chris Martin and Norma E. Hines Hughes.
He was a lifetime resident of the Gessie area.
He was a loyal member of IBEW Local 538 where he served as recording secretary.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Martin Hughes and a daughter Jackie Marie Hughes, both at home; his paternal grandfather, Harold Martin Hughes survives, as does his parents.
His brother, Jon Martin Hughes and sister, Crystal Susann (Mark) Anderson, also survive along with uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a loyal friend, Cathy.
He loved sports, cooking, gardening and was a tremendous help to his father on the farm.
He was an avid Harley rider.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and union brothers.
A celebration of his life: 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington;
Officiating: Rev. Larry Stoops;
Burial: Hopewell Cemetery;
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the funeral home.

Jacob A. Schnelle
Jacob A. Schnelle, 81, of Wilmette, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2004), after a battle with lung cancer.
Jake was born July 30, 1923, in Rankin, and lived in Danville, until he served in WW II with Patton's Army.
He received the Purple Heart, was a member of the VFW and worked as a building engineer and locksmith in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Schnelle, married 62 years; a son, Rudy Schnelle of Chicago; two daughters, Dawn and Denise Schnelle of Wilmette.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Schnelle of Antioch.
Funeral service: 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 18 at N.H. Scott & Hebblethwaite Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview, Ill.;
Interment: Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights;

Patricia Mae Gilbert
Patricia Mae Gilbert, 55, of Danville, passed away at 7:44 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2004) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She was born June 21, 1949, in Goreville, Ill., the daughter of Richard H. and Orpha L. (Black) Sullivan.
She married Gene E. Gilbert on Jan. 6, 1968, in Danville.
She is survived by: her husband of 36 years, Gene E. Gilbert of Danville; two daughters, Terrie Lynn Gilbert and Amy Dianne Gilbert, both of Danville; her mother, Orpha Sullivan of Danville; one brother, Richard L. (Martha) Sullivan of Danville; one sister, Dianne (Dan) Unzicker of Danville; three great-nieces, Rhylee Jewell Kerst, Savana Barabas and Maecii Lee Barabas; one great-nephew, Arlen Kerst; a special friend and business partner, Dan VanWieringen; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Her father, Richard H. Sullivan, preceded her in death.
Patricia worked for Model Star Dry Cleaning as office manager and dry-cleaning manager for over 30 years.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Danville; and she was the co-owner of Comfort Enterprises that operates Ice Cream Video in Oakwood.
She had a deep faith, and was an avid daily reader of her devotional books.
A celebration of Patricia Mae Gilbert's life will be held graveside at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at Oak Hill Cemetery;
Officiating: Rev. Thomas W. Miller and Roberta Crosby;
Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery;
Memorials may be made in Patricia's name to the American Cancer Society OR to the American Diabetes Association.

Stella M. Hines
HOOPESTON — Stella M. (Phelps) Hines, 80, of Hoopeston, formerly of Warren County, Ind., died at 6:40 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 9, 2004) at the Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital.
Stella was born May 4, 1924, in Science Hill, Ky., a daughter of Oris and Annie (Jones) Phelps.
She attended Hedrick and Williamsport schools.
She grew up in Hedrick, Ind., and had lived in Judyville, and Ambia, Ind.
She had been a resident of Hoopeston for the past 30 years.
She was married to Ned Hines for 35 years.
Stella was a homemaker.
She had belonged to the Locust Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church.
She loved playing music and played in a family band at the Tab Conservation Club and area churches and events.
Stella loved writing letters, keeping the family up to date, and writing thank you cards.
She worked as a news correspondent for the Review Republican for many years, writing the "Tidbits from Locust Grove" column.
Surviving: one son, Ron Hines (wife: Linda) of Fowler, Ind.; three sisters, Louise Bannon of Wiliamsport, Ind., Phyllis Taylor (husband: Frank) of Hedrick and June Thompson (husband: Dwain) of West Lebanon, Ind.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Stella was preceded in death by one son, Jim Hines, one brother and three sisters.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, Ind.;
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 in the chapel at the funeral home;
Officiating: Pastor Tom Blackford;
Interment: Locust Grove Cemetery, Tab, Ind.;
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Helen Louise Cline
Helen Louise Cline, 88, of Danville, passed away at 11 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 9, 2004) at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville.
She was born April 10, 1926, in Danville, the daughter of Irl R. and Gladys H. (Bennett) Cline.
Survivors include three nieces, L. Carol (Frank) Schultz of Bellingham, Wash., Elizabeth Ann Giles of Franklin, Mass., and Mary Jane (Bruce) Bohall of Bloomington, Ill., and four great-nephews, Thomas E. Schultz and Timothy E. Schultz of Bellingham, Wash., James A. Bohall, Davenport, Iowa, and Charles A. Bohall, Bloomington, Ill. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and sister-in-law, Edwin B. and Lucy Cline.
Helen was a graduate of Danville High School, the University of Illinois with a B.A. in Sociology and Indiana University with a M.A. in Social Work.
She was a field executive worker in Girl Scouts of the USA in Wisconsin and Indiana, 1948-65, faculty member at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis School of Social Work, 1965-71, and Director of Camping Services, Metropolitan Family Services (formerly United Charities of Chicago) 1971-81.
Helen also was a member and held offices recently in Danville Chapter #854, Order of Eastern Star, American Camping Association, Auxiliary to the Society of the 28th Division, A.E.F., United Methodist Women, St. James Methodist Church, The Nature Conservancy and Crazy Horse Memorial Grass Roots Club.
Helen was a special lady, loving and loved, and taught by example.
She helped the world to be a better place by making a difference in people's life one at a time, and always sought and found the best in people's situations.
Helen dearly loved her father, mother, brother and his wife Lucy (who was the best gift her brother ever gave her), also her nieces, their husbands and great-nephews.
A celebration of Helen's life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Rev. Kenneth Cox officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
There will also be a celebration at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at a place to be announced later, for friends and family.

Delmar Berglund
ROSSVILLE — Delmar Berglund, 86, of Rossville, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2004) at his home.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Potomac;
Officiating: Dr. Jerry Short;
Burial: Potomac Cemetery; .
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the funeral home;
Memorials: American Heart Association.
Delmar was born March 26, 1918, in Rossville, the son of John Arvid and Esther Karlson Berglund.
He married Bonnie Waugh, Sept. 26, 1949, in Danville.
She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth (Crystal) Berglund of Greenwood, Ind., Kris (Dianne) Berglund of Okemos, Mich., and Chris (Jean) Genaden of Henning; three daughters, Linda (Michael) Good of Jerome, Ariz., Terry (Clive) Campbell of Ottawa, Ontario, and Teresa Berglund of Bay City, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Evert and a sister, Elizabeth Young.
Delmar lived and farmed his entire life in Rossville, on the family farm.
He graduated from Henning High School.
He was a member of the Henning Church of Christ, served on the South Ross Water Authority, and served many years on the school board for both Henning and Bismarck-Henning schools.
He was a Past Patron of the Rossville Eastern Star Lodge 386.
He enjoyed his many friends and family.

Marilyn A. Conard
Marilyn A. Conard, 72, of Danville, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 4, 2004) at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Marilyn was born June 1, 1932, in Danville, the daughter of Paul and Doris Green Cox.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Downes of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jason and Jenna Conard of Ormond Beach; a brother, Dr. Maurice Cox of LaSalle, Colo.; and a special cousin, Judy (Dan) Henk of Danville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Doris Cox; a son, Eric and a daughter, Heidi.
Marilyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville.
She loved gardening, reading and cooking.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at First Presbyterian Church in Danville;
Officiating: Rev. Jimmy Hopper;
Memorials: First Presbyterian Church.

Virginia Winifred Pedigo Winters
Virginia Winifred Pedigo Winters, 89, of Palm Springs, Calif., formerly of Danville, Ill., died June 14, 2004, in Palm Springs.
She was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Danville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Abe" Emerson Winters and a daughter, Beverly Jean Winters.
She is survived by two sons, John E. (Donna) Winters and James A. (Vicki) Winters; 11 grandchildren, Laurie (John) DiMarino, Christine Hill, Tammy (John) Sandel, Sandy (Alan) Brunnett, Richard (Trish) Dow, Staci (Jesse) Trevino, Donny (Shannon) Winters, Roni Winters, Scott A. Winters, Jami and Drew, Jr., 23 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Spring Hill Cemetery.

George E. Baird
INDIANOLA — George E. Baird, 85, of Indianola, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2004) at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.
George Eldon was born Aug. 2, 1919, in St. Francisville, Ill., to Roy and Susan (Talley) Baird.
He married Mattie Setser May 23, 1939, in Vermilion County, Ill.
She passed away Feb. 8, 2000.
He is survived by one daughter, Joan (Louie) Pearman of Indianola; two sons, Eldon (Betty) Baird and Lee (Jackie) Baird, both of Indianola; six grandchildren, Tony Pearman, Randy Pearman, Angie (Baird) Fitzsimmons, Jennie (Baird) Stoller, Ben Baird and Connie (Pearman) Hooker; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladyne Foster, Marie Lawrence and Berdella Willis.
George was a life resident of Indianola, and had resided at Pleasant Meadows since 2000.
He retired from General Motors Foundry after 27 years of service as a forklift driver.
He attended Indianola United Methodist Church.
George enjoyed his family, working and playing checkers.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Robison Chapel in Catlin;
Officiating: Ed Logan;
Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola;
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at the funeral home;

Sue Bandy Clay
Sue Bandy Clay, 67, who taught speech to legions of children at both the Danville, Ky., and Boyle County, Ky., school systems, died Wednesday (Aug. 25, 2004), at her home.
Sue was born March 20, 1937, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of the late Lester Wesley and Frances Triplett Bandy. ,
She was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Urbana, and held a Master's degree in special education and communication disorders from Eastern Kentucky University.
Children were her specialty in speech pathology and she taught in Abilene, Texas, Libertyville, Ill., and Washington County Schools, Ky., SS Peter and Paul Kindergarten, Danville, Ky., Association for the Mentally Retarded at St. Catherine's School in Springfield, Ky., the Boyle County schools and, for 25 years, with the Danville, Ky., Independent School system.
She was a member of the Kentucky Speech-Language Hearing Association, a member of the Council of Exceptional Children and a Kentucky Colonel.
She was a former president of the Little Garden Club of Danville, Ky., and a life judge with the National Council of State Garden Clubs.
In 1980, she was named a delegate to the White House Conference on Families and was appointed to help draft the Kentucky Severity Rating Scale by the office of Education for Exceptional Children.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the founder of POETS Club.
Survivors include a special friend, David C. Payne of Danville, Ky.; a brother, John W. Bandy of Indianapolis; her children, John D. and Kathy Clay of Somerset, Ky., Susan Clay of Covington, Ga., Julie Clay of Perryville, Ky., and James F. and Laketa Clay of Louisville, and her grandchildren, John Daniel (Chip) Clay, Jr., Caroline Bonnie Clay, Christopher Delaney Sumner, Jacob Wesley Clay and Samantha Anne Clay.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville, Ky.;
Officiating: Gary Story;
Visitation: After 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at the funeral home;
Memorials: Heritage Hospice.
