Janet M. Gassensmith (nee Moyemont)
Passed away at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, Wednesday, July 28, 2004. Age 90 years.
Survived by two sons, James (Francis) of Plainfield and Gene (Joy) Gassensmith of Villa Park, IL. A daughter, Lucille (Stan) Dudek of Cincinnati, OH. Nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. A brother-in-law, Tony Buonomo of Kankakee. Also numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gassensmith (1981), her parents Eugene and Appa Moyemont. Two brothers Paul and Taylor Moyemont, a sister Appa Jean Buonomo and a sister Lucille Moyemont in infancy.
Member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for the past 52 years. Retired from the Federal Government where she worked as a secretary. Funeral services will be held from Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to St. Patrick Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Lady of Angels will be appreciated. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.

Robert R. Gora
Age 57, of Shady Lane, Newton, NC, passed away July 26, 2004 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. born September 29, 1946, in Joliet, IL, the son of the late John Raymond and Emily Rusko Gora.
Robert was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He received his Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War and had worked for Catawba Valley Community College as a Health Care Administration instructor. He had served on various local community boards and committees.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Lynn Mason Gora; daughter, Erin Gora of Wilmington, NC; sons, Ray, Adam and George Gora, all of Newton, NC; Sisters, Mary Lou Craig of Danville, IL, and Elaine Herff of Meadows Place, TX; two grandchildren, Hunter and Avery also of Wilmington, NC.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 2, 2004, 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Newton, NC. Father John Hoover will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday Evening from 6 to 8 PM at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton, NC.

James Tom Hallick
Age 78. Passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2004 at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne (Myers) Hallick of Lockport; his children, Tom (Holli) Hallick of Oswego and Lynna (Bob) Dahlgren of Orland Park; one brother, Nicholas (Freida) Hallick of Corpus Christi, TX; two grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Dahlgren.
Born in Peoria December 16, 1925, he attended grade school and high school in Greece. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Mexico and Masters Degree from Illinois State University. He lived in Lockport for the past 43 years. He was a Science Teacher and Department Chairman at Romeoville High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Pauline (Antonopoulos) Hallick; and a brother, Constantine Hallick.
Family will receive friends Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 3 until 7 PM with a Trisagion prayer service at 6:30 PM at Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton, Lockport, IL 60441. Funeral service to be held Monday, August 2, 2004, 10:00 AM at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Palos Hills. Interment at Mt Vernon Cemetery in Lemont. Laura Jean Proffit (nee VanDuyne)
Age 53 of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Joliet on February 27, 1951, Laura was a daughter of Margaret (Southall) and the late Vincent VanDuyne. She was a graduate of St. Rose Parochial School, Wilmington High School with the Class of 1969 and Med Tech College in Elkhart, IN. Laura was employed by Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, where she worked as a Med Lab tech for over 33 years, was an accomplished pianist and taught piano for many years. She was a diehard Cubs fan and advised many with numerous subjects and concerns with her wisdom and compassion.
Survivors include her loving husband, Thomas; two sons, Matthew (Ellen) of Glen Carbon, IL and Andrew Proffit of Wilmington. On daughter, Amanda Proffit and her mother, Margaret (late Vincent) VanDuyne both of Wilmington. Three brothers, Kent (Virginia) and Keith (Julie) VanDuyne of Wilmington and Ted (Cathy) VanDuyne of Braidwood. One sister, Lynne (Roy) Strong of Wilmington and one beloved granddaughter, Ainsley. Her mother-in-law, Mary "Babe" (late John) Proffit of Wilmington, brother-in-law, Jack (Latecia) Proffit of CA, and sisters-in-law, Judy (Doug) Barry of GA, Karen (Tom) Wallen of Crystal Lake, Pat (Tim) Meents of Wilmington, Becky (Dave) Altic of Bloomington, Kim (Jerry) Jansen of IL and Toni (Chuck) Pietzmeyer of Edwardsville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 2-7 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church 624 South Kankakee St. in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow in the church on Monday, August 2 with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated with rev. John Merkelis, OSA, Rev. Frank Vitus and Deacon Donald Dyer. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.

Age 63, of Coal City, IL, passed away on Monday, July, 30, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.
Gerald was born on December 11, 1937 in Massena, NY. He was the President of the Legion of Mary Joliet Dioceses.
He is survived by his wife, Therese Bouvier; mother, Mary Bouvier; three children, Michele, Nicolle, and Michael Bouvier; two step children, Sean (Jennifer) McGinn and Kelly McGinn; four brothers, Joseph (Arlene) Bouvier, Maurice Bouvier, Lawrence (Mary Ann) Bouvier, James (Pat) Bouvier; five sisters, Hilda (Bill) Hinman, Marie (Ed) Riley, Jeanine LeBoeuf, Julia (Joseph) Revai, Mary (George) Perry; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Bouvier; and a brother-in-law, Don LeBoeuf.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 3, 2001 with a Mass of Christian Burial at The Assumption Church. Father Donald O'Connor and Father Tom Corely will officiate, with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Thomas was born in Joliet and a life long resident. Retired in 1973 as a Supervisor for the Arsenal after 30 years of service. Veteran of World War II, U. S. Army European Theatre, Battle of the Bulge. Received the Purple Heart and Bronze Battle Star and numerous other citations. Member of Moran A.C., Cantigny Post VFW #367 and Joliet Rivals.

Died peacefully at home to join his wife in heaven on July 21, 2001.
Preceded in death by his mother Ida, Father Emil, by his wife Rachael Lucille (1996), and sisters Hilda & Myrtle Lindgren, Esther Kraus, Ethel Waite, Edith Keefer, Florence Longanecker and brother Raymond.
The best father in the world is survived by daughters Kayle L. Lindgren, Charlene R. Lindgren and future son in law, Ernie Anderson, retired Air Force Officer/pilot. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was a retired artist and commercial illustrator. Lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church, attended the Christian Youth Center's Thursday Morning Bible Study. Lived in Joliet, Rockford, and Wheaton area. Worked at Scriptures Press, Gospel Light and Amerock.
Graduated Joliet Township Class of 1934, was a member of the Joliet Township High School Band.

Passed away suddenly at Silver Cross Hospital Sunday, July 29, 2001. Age 51 years.
Survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol Ortega (Nee Kombol); seven children, Deborah (Ernest) Rodrigues of Greeley, CO, Victoria Moffett of Joliet, Stephen (Karen) Parker of Channahon, Jacqueline Parker, Julie Ortega, Geraldine Hughs and Jeronimo J. Ortega III, all of Joliet; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Ortega of Joliet and Armondo Fidencio Ortega of Ft. Worth, TX; four sisters, Oliva Ortega, Olga Reyes, Juanita Ortega, and Velma Alvarado, all of Ft. Worth, TX.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jeronimo J. and Juana Ortega; also, two brothers in infancy.
Jeronimo was an operator with the City of Joliet Sewage Treatment Plant for 29 years. Veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army. Member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and watching baseball with his grandchildren.

Edwin Wallace Shors
Resident of Shorewood, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001, following a lingering illness. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Shors; three children, Marcia K. (Gerald) Winters of Ponte Vedra, FL; Edwin Clayton (Susan) Shors of Laguna Beach, CA; and Tracey Jo Shors (Louis) Boundbrook of New Jersey; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Marguerite (Floyd) Nellor; two brothers, Jay A. (June) Shors; and Clayton M. (Arlene) Shors. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a brother, Marvin M. Shors.
Born May 3, 1915 in Beemer, NE and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska as a Civil Engineer. Served with the U.S. Navy SEABEES during WW II. Retired from Amoco Chemicals January 1, 1980 after 34 years. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church for 40 years.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 353 N. Midland Ave., Wednesday, August 1st at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Todd Napoli officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Beemer Cemetery at a later date. Contributions to Faith Lutheran Church will be appreciated.

Mary E. Talbot (nee Briscoe)
Age 93. Passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001. She departed in the comfort of her own home, after a long illness. She was born in rural Minooka and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of the former St. Angela Academy of Morris. Mary taught school at Dresden Hill for 11 years, 1926-1938; Matteson School for 13 years, 1938-1952; Minooka Grade School for 20 years, 1952-1972. She was the reigning matriarch at St. Mary Catholic Church of Minooka. She was a member of the Joliet Moose Lodge #300 (WOTM Chapter #84) and the Retired Teacher's Association.
Survived by her brother, Earl Briscoe of Santee, California and her devoted friend, Bev Schaller of Minooka.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerome Talbot (1962); parents, Michael J. and Mary (nee Handlon) Briscoe; sister and brother-in-law, Harriet (nee Briscoe) and Warren Kuster; brother, Dean Briscoe; sister-in-law, Maye Briscoe.

Age 73. Passed away Monday, July 30, 2001 at Deerbrook Care Centre. born February 21, 1928 in Essex, IL, and a Joliet area resident for the past 55 years. Retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Member of the Three Rivers Yacht Club.
Preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. Waesco, Jr. (1999); her parents, Edward E. and Florence I. (nee Rodgers) Harms; one brother, Clyde Harms; sisters-in-law, Marie A. (nee Fleming) Waesco and Shirley Ann Cusick.
