Winona Alice Phillips (nee Kociss)
Age 77, of Crest Hill, IL, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Meadowbrook Manor in Bolingbrook, IL. born August 26, 1926 in Gardner, IL to the late John and Gladys (nee McGurk) Kociss.
Winona formerly worked at Three Sisters Beauty Shop in Joliet, IL, for 35 years. She was a member of Theodore St. Lutheran Church in Crest Hill. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and her dogs.
Surviving are one son, Larry (Norma) Phillips of Bolingbrook; four grandchildren, Michael, David and Brandon Colegrove and Jennifer Wruk; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenny Kociss of Gardner, Chips (Lynne) Kociss of Gardner, and Gary Kociss of Gardner; one sister, Linda (Ted) Christensen of Gardner; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Kociss of Gardner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Lawrence "Boots" Phillips, whom she married November 1, 1947 in Joliet; two brothers, Glen and John Kociss; and one sister, Peggy Ann Kociss.
Funeral services will be held at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 10:00 AM. Interment Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, IL. The visitation will be Monday, August 2, from 3-5 and 7-9. Memorials in her name to any Hospice would be appreciated.

Laura Jean Proffit (nee VanDuyne)
Age 53 of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Joliet on February 27, 1951, Laura was a daughter of Margaret (Southall) and the late Vincent VanDuyne. She was a graduate of St. Rose Parochial School, Wilmington High School with the Class of 1969 and Med Tech College in Elkhart, IN. Laura was employed by Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, where she worked as a Med Lab tech for over 33 years, was an accomplished pianist and taught piano for many years. She was a diehard Cubs fan and advised many with numerous subjects and concerns with her wisdom and compassion.
Survivors include her loving husband, Thomas; two sons, Matthew (Ellen) of Glen Carbon, IL and Andrew Proffit of Wilmington. One daughter, Amanda Proffit and her mother, Margaret (late Vincent) VanDuyne both of Wilmington. Three brothers, Kent (Virginia) and Keith (Julie) VanDuyne of Wilmington and Ted (Cathy) VanDuyne of Braidwood. One sister, Lynne (Roy) Strong of Wilmington and one beloved granddaughter, Ainsley. Her mother-in-law, Mary "Babe" (late John) Proffit of Wilmington, brother-in-law, Jack (Latecia) Proffit of CA, and sisters-in-law, Judy (Doug) Barry of GA, Karen (Tom) Wallen of Crystal Lake, Pat (Tim) Meents of Wilmington, Becky (Dave) Altic of Bloomington, Kim (Jerry) Jansen of IL and Toni (Chuck) Pietzmeyer of Edwardsville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 2-7 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church 624 South Kankakee St. in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow in the church on Monday, August 2 with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated with Rev. John Merkelis, OSA, Rev. Frank Vitus and Deacon Donald Dyer. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.

Age 80. Passed away peacefully August 1, 2001 at Rosewood Care Center. Late of Homer Township.
Survived by his three children, Margaret (Vincent) Janosz-Affrunti of Joliet, Walter A. Janosz, Jr. of Lockport and Mary Ann (David) Paschal of Appling, GA; a brother, Joseph (Maria-deceased) Janosz; a sister, Stephanie (William) Schultz; six grandchildren, Angela Affrunti, Ken (Jill) Affrunti, Tracy (Chris) Kiernan, Darrin (Michelle) Affrunti of Lockport, Jacob and Josh Powell of Appling, GA; seven great grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Cicero and was a resident of Homer Township/Lockport for 54 years.
Preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine (nee Waszak); parents, Joseph and Mary Ann (Radon) Janosz; two brothers, Julian and Stanley Janosz; two sisters, Jean Janick and Florence Porkorney.
Family will receive friends at the Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton St. Saturday, August 4, 2001 from 12 noon until time of Memorial Service at 1 PM with Father Thomson Panakal officiating.

Age 72. Passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 in Tucson, Arizona with her children by her side. Daughters Marsha and Penny Johns live in Tucson, son Rick Johns lives in Joliet.
Grace was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary #367 Cantigny Post.
Preceded in death by her husband (1988) Alvin Ray Johns; 2 sisters; 3 brothers.
Numerous nieces and nephew's survive as one sister Roberta Zehr (Roy).

Survived by her loving daughter, Dr. Mary Therese (Brad) Petrella; grandchildren, Laurica Antonia and Philip Edward; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Born in Sheboygan, WI, lived in Joliet for 49 years since her marriage to Edward Lauric May 1952.
Preceded in death by her parents George and Mary Kolar, her husband Edward M. Lauric, two brothers, Matthew and Joseph Kolar.
She was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. Fran enjoyed playing cards with her fellow club members, playing bingo and attending her grandchildren's school and athletic events. Also enjoyed vacationing with her husband until his untimely death in 1992 and traveling with the "Tezak" tour group.

Albert B. Mondrella
Age 86, of Big Rapids, formerly of Joliet, IL, died suddenly on Monday, July 30, 2001, at his residence.
He was born March 21, 1915, in Joliet, IL, the son of Albert A. and Mary (Kapella) Mondrella. On July 5, 1935, Albert married Genevieve Ryan who preceded him in death in 1995.
Albert owned and operated Mondrella & Sons Beer Distributorship in Joliet for 37 years. he and his wife moved to Big Rapids after Albert retired in 1976.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2535 and B.P.O. Elks #974 in Big rapids, and was inducted into the Mecosta County Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.
Surviving are his three children, Albert C. Mondrella of Mecosta, James (Carol) Mondrella of Lockport, IL, and Dyann (Richard) Shaw of Joliet, IL; a sister, Rose Malinowski; a sister-in-law, Josephine Mondrella of Big Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his loving wife, Albert was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Therese; three brothers, Frank, Jack and Tony; and 3 sisters, Kate Sliz, Theresa Olha, and Mary Jennings.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Fr. Mike McKenna officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Albert's name may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Joliet chapter. Albert's family will be greeting friends on Friday, August 3 at the Rogers-Mohnke Funeral Home from 3-7 P.M. with a Rosary Service beginning at 7 P.M.

Age 79. Of Lake Worth, Florida, resided in Joliet for 67 years. Passed away on June 23, 2001 in Lake Worth. Elmer retired from Blockson/Olin Chemical Company after 37 years of service. Elmer was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Action in the Rhineland Campaign. Member of St. John Lutheran Church, Past President of the Church Council and the Bowling team and Shuffleboard at Covered Bridge in Lake Worth, FL.
Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Betty Jean Pratto (1996); parents Joseph and Mary (Sestak) Pratto and son-in-law John Dunn (1997).

Age 47, of Braidwood, IL, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL.
Born Jun 23, 1945 in Chicago, IL. Employed as an electrician at Ineos Silicas in Joliet, IL, Elford was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #241 in Wilmington, IL. He enjoyed gardening and bow hunting.
Survived by his wife, Sandra L. (Keef) Wheet of Braidwood, whom he married on September 7, 1974 in Joliet; his parents Elford W. Sr. and Loretta (Dean) Wheet of Joliet; a son Elford W. Wheet III at home; two daughters, Rebecca L. (Michael) Flickinger of Braceville, IL and Aimee L. Wheet of Joliet; a granddaughter, Makayla Marie Flickinger of Braceville; two brothers, James Wheet and David (Janet) Wheet, both of Joliet; three sisters, Jane (Larry) Voga of Yorkville, IL, Ruth Wheet of Glendale Heights, and Paula Wheet of Joliet.
