EPIFANIO HERNANDEZ
Epifanio D. "Pepe" Hernandez, 66, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Aug. 12, 1937, in Durango, Mexico, he was the son of Marcelino and Bernarda (Diaz) Hernandez. He married Praxedis Rubio on March 22, 1999, in Mexico.
Epifanio was employed as a landscaper for the DeKalb Park District.
He is survived by his wife, Praxedis, of Mexico; four children, Tyler Hernandez, Dori (Lalo) De La Cruz, Epifanio Brandon Hernandez, and James (Kim) Hernandez, all of DeKalb; 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Benjamin, Timothy, Brooke, Zachary, Lance, Ricky, Isabella, Jacob, Kristen, Josyln, Jamie and Justin; his father, Marcelino, of Mexico; 11 brothers and sisters, Filimon, Concuelo, Hermila, Ramon, Manuel, Guadlupe, Alicia, Manuela, Maria, Fidel and Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St. in DeKalb. Services and burial will be held in Mexico at a later date.

ROGER KRALL
Roger Eric Krall, 45, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Jan. 15, 1958, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Walter and Ruth (Prange) Krall. Roger married Viola Margaret Hill on June 27, 1992, in DeKalb.
He was formerly employed at Runge Enterprise in Elburn.
He is survived by his wife, Viola, of Sycamore; a daughter, Katrina Krall; a son, Brian Krall; a foster daughter, Tanya Hill; two sisters, Blanche Heuhn of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and Bonnie Kauffman of Don Mills, Ontario, Canada; a brother, Tim Krall of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada; his mother, Ruth Krall of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter.
Cremation has taken place at the Anderson Funeral Home Crematory in DeKalb, and a memorial service will be held in Kitchener at a later date.

LARRY KLEIN
Larry N. Klein, 50, of Belvidere, Ill., formerly of DeKalb, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at his home.
Born June 19, 1953, in Aurora, he was the son of Nicholas and Phyllis Klein.
A railroad engineer for more than 25 years, Mr. Klein was working as an engineer for Amtrak at the time of his death. He was a respiratory therapist.
He is survived by four daughters, Andrea, Sara, Laura and Erica, and their mother, Patricia Klein, all of DeKalb; his parents, Nicholas and Phyllis, of St. Charles, two sisters, Claudia (William) Karl and Allison (Brad) Kozloski, both of St. Charles; and a brother, Jeff Klein of Waterman.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at St. John Neumann Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Friday from 9-10 a.m. Friday at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., at the corner of Illinois Routes 64 and 25 in St. Charles.

CHARLES BAKER
Charles Lee Baker, 94, of Rochelle, Ill., formerly of DeKalb, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the Rochelle East Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born July 31, 1909, in Harrodsburg, Ky., he was the son of Robert and Ada (Pulluim) Baker.
Charles was employed by Northern Illinois Finance Corp. in DeKalb for several years. He was a member of the Foursquare Church in DeKalb.
He is survived by his children, Luella (Douglas) Overton of DeKalb and Mike (Bertie) Baker of Edgerton, Wis.; four grandchildren, Timothy Overton, James (Diane) Baker, Robert Baker and Jamie Baker; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Galvez of Freemont, Calif.; a brother, Everett (Donna) Baker of Amboy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Candy Ward; several brothers; and a sister.
The graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Union Cemetery in Stewart with the Rev. Dennis W. Campbell of the Foursquare Church in DeKalb officiating.

LILIAN SWANSTROM
Lillian May Swanstrom, 77, formerly of DeKalb, Ill., passed away consciously and peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, Minn., succumbing after several years to multiple systems atrophy, a Parkinson-related neuro-degenerative disease.
Born May 2, 1926, in Oelwein, Iowa., she was the daughter of Alfred and Emelia (Warnke) Kaufmann. She graduated in 1947 from the cadet nursing program at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Chicago and retained strong friendships with her classmates throughout her life. She married Louis Stigliani in 1947 and moved to DeKalb, where she lived until moving to Nisswa, Minn., about 15 years ago.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chicago, First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, and Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. She was an active volunteer for her church and local senior center, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed golf, bridge, bowling, and helping her friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan Stigliani; a sister, Frances Goldsberry; a niece, Jean Lamb; and two nephews, John and James Goldsberry.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Stigliani; a daughter, Kay Stigliani; a brother, Herbert Kaufmann; and her parents.
A memorial open house will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at The House, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb. Private burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
VIRGINIA KOHLER
Virginia Mae Kohler, 82, of Shabbona, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Pine Acres Care Center in DeKalb.
Born Sept. 13, 1920, in Houghton, S.D., she was the daughter of Hubert and Eva (Thorpe) Daker.
Virginia was united in marriage to LeRoy R. Kohler on Dec. 5, 1943, in Aurora, and they spent the next 59 years of their lives together. Mrs. Kohler was for many years a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Sandwich where she enjoyed working with children and teens as the church's youth director. Virginia had recently been attending the Shabbona Baptist Church in Shabbona. She was a true witness for the Lord at all times and was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Kohler was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School in Sugar Grove. She then completed her education at the Northern Illinois Teachers College in DeKalb and went on to become a country school teacher in the Malta area. Later in her career, Virginia was employed for many years in the office of Bardwell Elementary School in Aurora.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy, of Shabbona; four sons, Lon (Dr. Linda) Kohler of Kansas City, Mo., Robert Kohler of Waterman, Dan (Carol) Kohler of Hinckley and Tom (Tina) Kohler of Moore Haven, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Darwin Daker of Aurora; and two sisters, Pauline Sain of Manchester, Tenn., and Donna (Morrie) Oelker of Sebring, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Eva; a brother, Kenneth Daker; and a foster daughter, Phyllis Pike.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Church of the Nazarene in Sandwich. Interment will follow at Pratt Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 N. Maple St. in Hinckley.

WARREN EDWARD 'JOE' KUESTER
Warren Edward "Joe" Kuester, 79, of Hinckley, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003.

HAROLD A. RISSMAN
Harold A. Rissman, 86, of DeKalb, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his residence.
Born Feb. 16, 1917, in Waterman, he was the son of John M. and Emma (Podolski) Rissman. Harold married Evelyn Smiley in 1944.
Harold graduated from Waterman High School and then from Valparaiso University, earning his law degree. Harold served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II, earning the rank of lieutenant junior grade. Harold had practiced law in DeKalb for 48 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1997. He was a DeKalb County Zoning Enforcement officer from 1950-1967. He was a radio narrator for Immanuel Lutheran Church for more than 25 years. He was a 50-year member of the DeKalb American Legion and a member of DeKalb County Farm Bureau and the DeKalb County and Illinois State Bar Associations.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of DeKalb; a brother, William, of Minnesota; a sister, Lois Hesterburg of California; three sons, J. Kurt (Lora) Rissman of DeKalb, and Arlo (Lila) Rissman and Eric (Catherine) Rissman, both of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Ann, of Florida; 12 grandchildren, Ray (Julie) Rissman of DeKalb, Timothy and Wendy Rissman of DeKalb, Lydia (Gabe) McNeese of Colorado, Bethany (Damien) Hunter of Florida, Caitlin, Holly and Sarah Rissman, all of Florida, Zeke Rissman, Gabrielle Metzner of Maryland and Hayden (Elyssa) Ryce and Kahla Rissman, both of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nathan Rissman of DeKalb and Alivia Hunter of Florida; two very special friends and caregivers, Robert Gucik and Silvin Sadvar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Meta, Hilda and Vera; two brothers, Karl and Ervin; and a son, Neil.
A private family graveside service will be held at Johnson Grove Cemetery in rural Shabbona.

SHARON JEAN TALBERT
Sharon Jean Talbert passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill.
She was born Oct. 22, 1985. Sharon's vibrant spirit and loving nature will always be treasured by family and friends. Sharon was a senior at DeKalb High School who loved art, animals and being creative. She was an excellent student, beloved friend and cherished family member. She was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist in DeKalb and served on its Lecture Committee.
Sharon is survived by her parents, John and Terri Talbert; a brother, Christopher; three grandparents, Chris and Jean Talbert and John Hennessy; a great-grandmother, Marian Talbert; an aunt, Tina (Harvey) Jones; a cousin, Brian Roe; an aunt, Trudy Hennessy; an uncle, Rodney (Tina) Talbert; three cousins, Nicole, Ashley and Bradley; three uncles, Joe Talbert, Lonnie Lowe and Stanley Lowe; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St. in DeKalb. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

ARLINE S. NELSON
Arline S. Nelson, 93, of Columbus, Ind., formerly of DeKalb, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Columbus.
Born Sept. 24, 1910, in Lakefield, Minn., she was the daughter of L. David and Emily Weber Steward. She married Howard A. Nelson on Oct. 16, 1935; he died in January 1995.
She was a homemaker and had been a member of First Congregational Church in DeKalb and PEO Sisterhood. She was a graduate of Carlton College in Northfield, Minn. She had lived in DeKalb for 60 years before moving to Columbus in September 1999.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosanne N. Watson of Columbus and Virginia N. Combs of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Four Seasons Retirement Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. Evelyn Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30-3 p.m. Monday at Four Seasons.
A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb with the Rev. Joseph Gastiger officiating.
