ARLIE J. O'DONNELL
Arlie J. O'Donnell, 74, of Sycamore, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at her residence.
Born Nov. 24, 1928, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Calvin and Molly Francis (Lewis) Humes.
Arlie married Paul Benson; he preceded her in death. She then married Harold Austin; he also preceded her in death. She then married Richard O'Donnell, who also preceded her in death. Arlie worked for 20 years at General Electric in DeKalb. She lived in the DeKalb and Sycamore area most of her life.
She is survived by four sons, Robert (Mimi) Benson of North Carolina, Stephen Benson of Arizona, Ronald Austin of Sycamore and Larry (Diana) Austin of Chicago; a daughter, Tracy (Richard) Tracy of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Mike Benson, Jim Benson, Paul Benson, Eric Tracy, Erin Shaver, Dustin Tracy, Kevin Austin and Jeffrey Austin; three great-grandchildren, Isabella Benson, Rhiannon Tracy and Connor Shaver; three sisters, Lottie Cleaver of Illinois, Anna (Gordon) Pearly of Missouri and Alice (Earl) Farley of Sycamore; and three brothers, Calvin (Sheila) Humes of Michigan, Eugene (Terry) Humes of DeKalb and Samuel (Debra) Humes of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Paul, Harold and Richard; a sister, Bonnie; and a brother, James.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home in DeKalb, with Envoy Roger Beck of the Salvation Army officiatiwng. Following the service, cremation will take place at the Ronan-Moore-Finch Crematory. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

BETTY WEBSTER
Betty Webster, 73, of Somerset, Ky., formerly of DeKalb, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in Somerset.
Born Nov. 9, 1929, in Elgin, she was the daughter of Chester and Bernice (Answorth) Parkins.
Betty married Robert McCaslin; he preceded her in death. She then married Donald Mutter Sr.; he also preceded her in death. She then married Russell Webster, who also preceded her in death. For many years, Betty worked around the house, tending to the family's needs. In 1974, Betty moved from the DeKalb community to Cairo, Mo. In 2000, she moved to her present home in Somerset.
She is survived by her mother, Bernice Brown of Kentucky; six children, Joyce (Bernie) St. Aubin of California, Judy (Rich) Ledebuhr of Minnesota, and Donald (Doris) Mutter Jr., Laurie Rodgers, Tim (Melody) Webster and Ann (Scott) Middleton, all of Missouri; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Warren Parkins, and a sister, Pat Sutton, both of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her father and all of her husbands.
The graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Mound Rest Cemetery in Cortland, with Pastor Robert Vaughn officiating. Cremation will take place at the Ronan-Moore-Finch Crematory. Private family visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

MARTHA E. SCHREINER, Ph.D.
Martha E. Schreiner, Ph.D., 89, of DeKalb, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center in DeKalb.
Born June 28, 1914, in Kewanee, she was the daughter of Joseph and Minna (Hoffman) Schreiner.
A professor at Northern Illinois University, Martha taught German and French and retired from NIU in 1980. She had lived in the DeKalb community for more than 60 years, having moved from Kewanee. For many years, Martha volunteered at the DeKalb County Home managing the gift shop. Besides her many volunteer hours and teaching in the classroom, Martha loved watching and naming birds, flowers, traveling and just being surrounded by nature. After completing high school, Martha continued her education at Northern Illinois State Teachers College. She then went on to Northwestern University where she earned her master's, and then the University of Paris where she earned her doctorate.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret (Paul) Duncan of DeKalb; a nephew, Philip (Judi) Duncan of Lake Forest; and her cherished dogs, Molly, Heidi, Putsi and Frieda.
She was preceded in death by her parents and many of her special friends.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home in DeKalb, with Pastor Joseph Gastiger officiating. Burial will be private at a later date. Cremation has taken place at the Ronan-Moore-Finch Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to TAILS Humane Society in DeKalb County.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

DALE 'SNAPPY' REEVES
Dale "Snappy" Reeves, 61, of Rochelle, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at home in the care of his family.
He had worked for Snap-On Tools for 38 years.
Born Dec. 25, 1941, in Paducah, Ky., he was the son of William A. and Marilee (Ward) Reeves. On Nov. 25, 1992, he married Suzanne Flanigan. He was a member of Moose Lodge 903 in Rochelle.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, of Rochelle; his mother, Marilee Reeves of Paducah; a daughter, Barbara D. (Terry) Richards of Earlville; a son, Randy D. (Karen) Reeves of Rochelle; a brother, Bob (Dorothy) Reeves of Paducah; and three grandchildren, Matthew and Travis Richards and Haley Reeves.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Karen Gohlson.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Crossroads Church, North Highway 251 in Rochelle, with the Rev. Tony Blumenberg officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, 704 N. Sixth St. in Rochelle, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
A memorial has been established for Unity Hospice in Rochelle.

PEARL SNYDER
Pearl C. Snyder, 92, of Batavia, Ill., passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Wood Glen Pavilion Care Center in West Chicago, after a brave battle with declining health.
Born Aug. 21, 1910, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Hans and Petria (Jensen) Knudsen. Pearl grew up in Maple Park where she attended local schools.
On Dec. 2, 1931, she was united in marriage to Perry Snyder in Dixon and they settled in Maple Park. In later years, they lived for a time in the DeKalb-Sycamore area until about 1940 when they moved to St. Charles. In 1953, they moved to Batavia where they made their home until Perry's death in 1991. In the years that followed, Pearl continued to make her home in Batavia until 1997 when her battles with declining health required greater care and she moved to the Wood Glen Pavilion.
Through the years, Pearl worked at a little grocery store on Third Street in St. Charles and later worked at Colonial Ice Cream and at Dole Electric in Batavia. She volunteered at the Batavia VFW Fish Fry, as well, for many years. Pearl's whole life was devoted to her husband and family. She loved to dance and spent many happy evenings with Perry at the Blue Moon in Elgin. From baby-sitting to helping the sick, Pearl was the family caregiver throughout the generations. She was, in her mind, ageless in such a way that even at 90 she sometimes complained about living around so many "old" people at Wood Glen.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia (David) Nielsen of Marion, Ky., Priscilla Peterson of North Aurora, Phyllis (Al) Pollard of Batavia and Peggy Leathers of Sugar Grove; a son, Perry N. (Shirley) Snyder of Piedmont, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Kelly Pollard, Karla Carpenter, Matthew and Katrina Leathers, Steven, Scott and Michael Snyder and Jodi (Michael) Sharpe; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew, Tyler, Kaitlin and Logan; a great-great-granddaughter, Autumn; several nieces and a nephew; and her longtime friend, Loretta Christensen of Maple Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Alfred Knudsen; a son-in-law, William Peterson; and a granddaughter, Robin Garrett.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, with the Rev. Richard Watts, pastor of First Baptist Church of Batavia, officiating. Interment will follow at Gardner Cemetery near Maple Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Pearl's name can be made either to the Salvation Army Golden Diners or to Vitas Hospice and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.

BRENDA DAVIS
Brenda Sue "Susie" Davis, 51, of Bean Station, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at home among family and friends after a lengthy illness.
Born May 31, 1952, in Morristown, Tenn., she was the daughter of Gene and Sarah Nolen. She was a 1970 graduate of Morristown West. Brenda was employed for 22 years at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. Most recently she was employed at Proffits in Morristown. She was a member of Holt's Baptist Church.
She is survived by her parents, Gene and Sarah Nolen; her husband of 32 years, Craig Davis; a daughter, Lisa Davis of Rockford; a granddaughter, Shalyn Davis; two sisters, Patricia (Carl) Davis and Janice (Billy) Knight; a brother, Kenneth Nolen; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown, with burial to follow at Holt's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Brenda Sue Davis to U.T. Hospital 6 East Fund, with memorials sent to Craig Davis in care of Stubblefield Funeral Home, P.O. Box 787, Morristown, TN 37815.

RICHARD CLIFTON SPAINE JR.
Richard Clifton Spaine Jr., 75, of Vestavia, Ala., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003.
Born Sept. 16, 1928, in Portsmouth, Va., he was raised on Chesapeake Bay. He was educated at Randolph Macon College, Ashland, Va.; Albion College, Albion, Mich.; and later Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, Ill.
An ordained Methodist minister, he had a career that spanned a series of appointments in Lexington, Ky.; Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Rockford and Green Garden. In the '60s, he also served as the founding minister of Trinity Methodist Church in Carpentersville where he directed the construction of an architecturally notable suburban parish.
His longest term of service (1967-85) was as the pastor of University Methodist Church-Wesley Foundation on the Northern Illinois University campus in DeKalb, where he found his true vocation working with university students during the Vietnam era and its aftermath. In DeKalb, he was an early and avid supporter of public access cable television, the migrant ministries, low-cost housing projects and other social and educational causes that favored the disadvantaged.
He retired with his wife in 1991 to Vestavia, Ala., after spending his adult life in the northern Illinois area. Throughout his years, he embodied the lifelong learner through reading and study. He loved religion, philosophy, politics and art. In his later years, he remained active in the Shepard Center, audited classes at Beeson Divinity School, gave Bible study classes and enjoyed various senior and church groups. He was an active member of Highlands United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala.
He is survived by a son, Scott Martin Spaine of Arlington, Va.; and a daughter, Sheri Spaine (John A.) Long, and two grandchildren, Morgan Taylor Long and John Richard Long, all of Vestavia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Clifton Spaine Sr. and Lucy (Leake) Spaine, and his wife of 47 years, Dorothea (Knarr) Spaine.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Highlands United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala., with the Rev. Hughey Reynolds officiating. Private burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Visitation will be from 3:30-4 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
The family requests that memorials be made to Highlands United Methodist Church.
Rideout's Valley Chapel of Homewood, Ala., is directing arrangements.

JON ERICKSON
Jon Erickson, 38, of Atlanta, Ga., and formerly of Shabbona, Ill., died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at home.
Born March 3, 1965, in Munich, Germany, he was the son of Roger and Sharon (Long) Erickson.
He is survived by his mother, Sharon (Carl) Davison of Paw Paw; his father, Roger Erickson of LaSalle; a sister, Erica (Luke) Scudder of Dixon; his paternal grandmother, Gladys Erickson of DeKalb; a niece, Alyssa Scudder of Dixon; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herman and Inez Long, and his paternal grandfather, Malvin Erickson.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Jacobson Funeral Home in Shabbona.
A memorial is being established.

NOLAMAE PEDERSEN
Nolamae Pedersen, 79 of Genoa died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born Aug. 6, 1923 in Center, Colo. The daughter of John T. and Minnie (Wright) Seyfried. She married Alvin Pedersen on July 22, 1944, in Sycamore.
Nolamae loved to cook and was a wonderful homemaker. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin of Genoa; three children, Lois (Al) Van Vleet of Jackson, Mich., John (Kathy) Pedersen of Genoa and Janice (Roger) James of Genoa; six grandchildren, Ann (Mark) Stanley, Glenn Alvin (Sarah) Griner, Brenda, Kelly and Michael James, and Jennifer Pedersen; three great granddaughters, Shelly, Amber and Noelle; three brothers, Travis (Virginia) Seyfried, Fred Seyfried and George (Jo) Keller, all of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Daniel, and one sister, Inez.
Her funeral service and burial will be private. Arrangements were completed by the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 West Main St., Genoa, IL. For more information call (815) 784-5191.
