Cary Brunner
Cary L. Brunner, 49, of Des Plaines, formerly of Park Ridge, died on Jan. 5, 2002 in Holy Family Medical Center.
Mr. Brunner was a cab driver for Community Cab Company for three years.
He is survived by his sisters, Dawn (David) Kordell of Wisconsin Dells and Paula Brunner of Park Ridge; his fiance, Mary Bathalon of Des Plaines and nephews, Jeffrey and Gregory Kordell of Wisconsin.
Funeral service was held on Jan. 10 in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Entombment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.

Stanley Bulgajewski
Stanley Bulgajewski, 64, of Des Plaines died on Jan. 6, 2002 in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
Born in Poland, Mr. Bulgajewski was a template maker for Ryerson Company. He was a member of PNA 2714 and served in the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Edward (nee Mann); daughters, Ursula (Mark) Laarveld and Irene Bulgajewski; brother, Casey (Lydia); and sisters, Wanda (Frank) Romer, Marianna (John) Rudijicki and Donna (Victor) Osipczuk.
Visitation was in Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 19 in St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles. Burial was in Maryhill Cemetery, Niles.
Peter Cozzi
Peter J. Cozzi, 85, of Des Plaines died on Jan. 3, 2002 in the Glenview Terrace Nursing Home.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline; children, Henry (Christine, Lenore (Raymond) Werner of Park Ridge and Angela (Thomas) Meinzer; and grandchildren, Peter, Michael and Janine Cozzi, Beth Szwaya, Frank, Kristin and Katherine Meinzer.
Visitation was in Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 7, 2002 in St. Paul of the Cross Church, Park Ridge. Entombment was in All Saints Mausoleum, Des Plaines.
Thorine G. Dahl
Services and interment for Thorin Dahl, 87, of Cary, formerly of Mount Prospect, were private. born July 16, 1914, in Chicago, the daughter of Arthur and Gertrude Dahl, she died Dec. 30 at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
Ms. Dahl is survived by her sister, Shirley (Joseph) Letry of Cary; a nephew, Michael (Dawn) Letry; a niece, Julianne Letry; great-nieces Kristen and Erin Letry; and dear friend, MaryAnn Vanek.
Arrangements were made with the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, Cary.
Myra Ebert
Funeral services for Myra Ebert (nee Schnake), 92, of Fox River Grove, formerly of Des Plaines, were held Jan. 9, 2002 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Barrington. born Aug. 2, 1909, in Chicago, she died Jan. 6, 2002 at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington.
Mrs. Ebert was a homemaker and a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, old television shows and game shows.
Mrs. Ebert is survived by her husband, Herbert, whom she married Feb. 6, 1937, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines; five children, Eunice (the Rev. Gerald) Schalk of Fox River Grove, David (Joanne) of Arlington Heights, James (Jeri) of Des Plaines, Linda Eaton of Schaumburg and Juanita of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Ruth Krentz of Thornton, Colo.; a brother, Marcus (Jeannie) Schnake of Loveland, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Erna Schnake; and brothers Paul and Luther.
A private burial will take place in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Ebert’s name to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, 720 Dundee Ave., Barrington IL 60010. Arrangements were made with Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington.
Evelyn Elkin
Evelyn Ann (nee Brasen) Elkin, 79, of Des Plaines died on Jan. 4, 2002 in her home.
Mrs. Elkin was a retired medical secretary. She was an active member of the Des Plaines Senior Center and Moving on Memories and an active volunteer at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, Louis, she is survived by her sons, Richard (Nancy) of Schaumburg and Steven (Barbara) of Batavia; grandchildren, Jim, Mike, Kate and Aimee; and sister, Bernice (Orville) Grossmann of Appleton, Wis.
Visitation was in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Funeral service was held on Jan. 7, 2002 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Des Plaines. Burial was in Chapel Hills Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace.

Siegfried Franke
Siegfried A. Franke, 86, longtime resident of Des Plaines, died on Jan. 5, 2002 in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
Mr. Franke worked maintenance for the City of Des Plaines.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; stepdaughters, Rosemary (Dominic) Woo, Rhonda Winlor and Rachel Stephen; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and brother, Helmut (Diane) Franke. He was preceded in death by a wife, Emilie.
Funeral service was held on Jan. 10 in G.L. Hills Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Burial was private.

Roland T. Markworth, 81, lifelong resident of Des Plaines, died on Jan. 9, 2002 in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn (nee Peters); children, Richard, Norman (Mary) Barbara (Scott) Johnson and Sharon (Tim) Jones; grandchildren, Bryan, Megan and Alix Markworth, Matthew and Margaret Johnson and Benjamin Jones; and siblings, Harold and Kenneth Markworth and Mildred Brandt.
Visitation was in Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines. Funeral service was held on Jan. 12 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Des Plaines, officiated by the Rev. Richard Mau. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.

Arlene Mersch
Arlene (nee Kuhl) Mersch, 81, of Des Plaines died on Dec. 26, 2001 at the Alden of Des Plaines.
Mrs. Mersch was a cook in the public schools.
Preceded in death by her husband, William, she is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Joseph Smreczak
Joseph G. Smreczak, 76, of Crystal Lake, died Dec. 26, 2001 at his daughter’s home in Crystal Lake. born in Chicago Nov. 5, 1925, he was a former resident of the city’s Northwest Side.
He served in the United States Army in World War II, and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was a retired Chicago Transit Authority bus driver.
Mr. Smreczak was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine (nee Rutkowski). He is survived by his children, Deborah (Terrance) Dee of Crystal Lake, Kathy (Mike) Burke, Joseph (Mabel) and Sharon (Nick) Sulkowski of Mount Prospect; grandchildren Michael, Rhiannon, Nicole, Michelle, Sullivan, Samantha and Christopher; and a sister, Antoinette (Gene) Winner.
Visitation was held prior to a memorial service Dec. 28, 2001 at the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, Chicago. The Rev. Donald Ahearn, pastor emeritus of St. Juliana Catholic Church, was celebrant. Memorials were suggested to the Vitas Hospice, 580 Waters Edge, Lombard IL 60148.
Jack Turney
Jack Turney, 81, of Des Plaines died on Dec. 31, 2001 at the Oakton Pavilion.
Mr. Turney was a mechanic for a trucking firm. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Union Local 701, the Gladstone American Legion Post 777 and River Park Moose Lodge 2578.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice (nee Lux); children, Robert (Maralyn), John (Donna) (retired, Chicago Police Department) and Donald (Chicago Police Department); seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and brother, James.
Visitation was in Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Niles. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 3 in Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, Niles. Burial was in Maryhill Cemetery, Niles.

Shirley A. Tripoli, 72, longtime resident of Des Plaines, died on Jan. 1, 2002 in Manor Care, Arlington Heights.
She was a retired registered nurse.
Preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Martzel and Vito Tripoli, and a daughter, Lisa Martzel, she is survived by her children, Steven (Diane) Martzel, David Martzel, John (Michelle) Martzel, Jean (Don) Gavros, Barbara Gier, and Mary (Tom) Voss; grandchildren, Adriane, Isaac, John, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jeffrey, Caroline and Helena; and friend, Tony Zazzara.

Bruce Valin
Bruce Thomas Valin, 55, of Des Plaines died on Dec. 30, 2001 in his home.
Mr. Valin worked as a forecasting support manager. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn; son, Christian (Scarlett) Valin of Des Plaines; grandson, Noah Valin; and siblings, Shirley Borkovek, Patricia (Robert) Heilman, Dan (Diane), Gerry (Diana) and Joseph Valin.
